Implementation of walk-through audits for designing energy management system: a first step towards an efficient campus /

    No full text
The purpose of this study is to design a concept of energy management control system (EMCS) at the UNSADA campus, Jakarta, Indonesia by utilizing the results of the previous walkthrough audit. EMCS is an important first step by involving all parties on campus to be concerned the sustainable energy savings. The energy efficiency program utilizes the campus as an energy laboratory to identify, recommend, implement and evaluate the energy consumption, so that the expected energy efficiency targeted by the top managements can be achieved. This program is motivated by several reasons, such as; to support government policies in reducing dependence on fossil energy by implementing energy conservation programs; as a reflection of compliance with the implementation of educational service buildings (including the campus in Jakarta); a vision as the efficient campus in energy consumption that has been determined by the campus management. To achieve these goals, there are four stages to be done; the preparation, the conducting audit, the audit analysis, and the recommendation for implementation. The results provide an overview of the opportunities to save the energy consumption and to develop EMCS by involving all stack-holders on campus

Experimental evidence that the invasive snail potamopyrgus antipodarum (Gray, 1843) survives passage through the digestive tract of common riverine fish /

Potamopyrgus antipodarum is one of the most widespread invasive species worldwide and its expansion is ongoing. Although the snail has already been documented as surviving the digestive tract of various fish, there is insufficient data on potential riverine fish predators of P. antipodarum and of the ability of the snail to survive digestion by these fish. Lotic ecosystems are unfavourable for the upstream spread of this species by active movement and thus it is suspected that benthivorous riverine fish facilitate such upstream dispersion. In general, the results of this study indicated that P. antipodarum is not a preferable food object for the studied riverine fish. The study did indicate, however, that the invasive snail is capable of surviving the digestive tract of all the studied fish. As accidental consumption of abundant P. antipodarum with other food objects has already been documented, this study suggests that riverine fish can act as potential secondary dispersion vectors, facilitating the upstream dispersion of the snail

    Semiotics of pride.

The study in this thesis concerns a passion of pride in the literature. In order to reach the aim of the thesis (to find a universal model of pride) there were inspected chronologically, axiologically, stylistically different texts: some fragments of Scripture, the stories of Homeric epos and literary heritage of Juozas Tumas-Vaižgantas were studied, trying to find various models of pride in them. The work is based on semiotics of passions, there was presented a work of Algirdas Julius Greimas and Jacques Fontanille The Semiotics of Passions, their observations were sequently used in the thesis and weighted up. It was determined, that the pathemical macrosequence of pride cannot be universal, it varies depending on cultural environment in which pride manifests itself. Still, it was discovered that there is an elemental nucleus of this passion which includes me-relation and other-relation enveloped by excess. It seems that the analysis of passions and specifically pride is useful in the cultural and social perspectives and so should be continued

Water exchange between the inner and outer archipelago areas of the Finnish Archipelago Sea in the Baltic Sea /

We studied the water age and transport of passive tracers in the Archipelago Sea, Baltic Sea, using the COHERENS 3D hydrodynamic model and the OpenDrift Lagrangian particle model. The mean water age, which was calculated with COHERENS over a period of 6 years, varied between 1 and 3 months in the outer archipelago and between 3 and 6 months in the middle archipelago. The water age was highest in the inner archipelago, up to 7 months. As the density stratification is weak in large parts of this area, except for the seasonal thermocline, significant differences in the water age between the surface and bottom layers were seen only in the river mouths and in the deep channels of the middle archipelago. The Lagrangian particle simulations showed that the middle archipelago is more open towards the north than south. From the northern boundary, the Bothnian Sea, the largest transport to the middle archipelago occurred with NW winds. Due to the geometry and density of the islands in the area, the prevailing wind direction, SW, alone is not optimal for transporting tracer particles to the middle archipelago. From the southern boundary, the Baltic Proper, transport to the middle archipelago occurred mainly with SE winds and during events when the wind direction shifted from SW to SE or vice versa. The transport further into the inner archipelago was limited to only a few cases, indicating that the inner archipelago is fairly sheltered from transport from the outer archipelago

Load distribution influence on the mechanical state of reinforcement concrete structures of a port storage facility /

The stress/strain state of reinforcement concrete walls and foundation plate of a storage facility in the seaport of Klaipeda (Lithuania, the EU) is investigated, considering the distribution of loads from stored bulk materials. At the first, a simple test problem has been calculated: reinforcement slab 21´35 m in plane on 24 columns, which are located by a regular step. During creating the combinations of all 15 possible loadings of each „cell“, increased internal forces and reinforcement results to +20 % have been obtained. Next, a storage facility of bulk materials with dimensions 36´120 m in plane has been considered, when expected 16 loadings, 1/4 for each of four storage sectors, has been used in the FEM model. The results of the comparison with the ordinary calculation, in which each of sectors could be fully filled or be empty, have presented. The investigation results can be used for developing of industrial recommendations for the designing of storage facilities

Approaching the end of post-Soviet transition? Trends of youth crime in Klaipėda in 2005-2019 /

    No full text
The article presents a sociological and criminological analysis of data on registered youth criminal offences (young people of 14-29 years old) in Klaipėda. The analysed period covers the years from 2005 to 2019 (late post-Soviet period). It includes youth crime offences and persons suspected of committing a crime. The period is characterised by a constant downward trend in crime. There were no substantial changes in criminal law during this period, however, Lithuania significantly strengthened the legal and material background for work with juveniles and young adults. On the basis of the insights of the theories of anomie, social control and ecological criminology, the article analyses the key indicators of youth crime and its dynamics. The changes by age and employment of persons who have allegedly committed criminal offences are analysed

Connections between the health-related quality of life, perception, and knowledge of the disease in patients with arterial hypertension.

    No full text
In Lithuania, the incidence of arterial hypertension is higher than in other developed European or world countries. This situation may be caused by a lack of information or awareness of the disease, inadequate patient information, and limited knowledge of the disease. Treatment of arterial hypertension is a systematic and lifelong process, and it is important to determine the impact of disease awareness and knowledge on patients health-related quality of life. The aim of research – to determine the connections between health-related quality of life, perception, and knowledge of the disease in patients with arterial hypertension. The methods of research. A quantitative study was performed. Instrument used - questionnaire consisting of 3 questionnaires: ,,Arterial hypertension knowledge level scale”; ,,Disease Perception Questionnaire”; ,,Health-Related Quality of Life Questionnaire” (SF-36). The sample consisted of 389 respondents. Descriptive data analysis was performed with the statistical software package SPSS 17.0.1 for Windows. The research was conducted in accordance with ethical principles. The main results. The results of the study showed that the subjects were sufficiently aware of their disease control (4.04 ± 0.61 points) and their health risk (3.99 ± 0.73 points). In the overall study population, the overall knowledge of arterial hypertension ranged from 0 to 22 points, averaging 16.87 ± 3.70 points out of a possible 22 points. The analysis of men's and women's knowledge of arterial hypertension showed a significant difference - women's knowledge was significantly better than men's (16.09 ± 3.90 points for men and 17.53 ± 3.89 points for women: t-3.89 p) <0.001. An analysis of the perception, disease knowledge, and health-related quality of life factors in patients with arterial hypertension has shown that the quality of life is negatively influenced by disease difficulties and positively influenced by a better understanding of the need for disease control. Better assessments of all aspects of quality of life related to physical health as well as vigor / vitality are associated with a better knowledge of arterial hypertension. Conclusion. Knowledge and understanding of the disease affects health-related quality of life differently. Patients with better knowledge of the disease rated health-related quality of life better, but those with a better understanding of the disease rated the quality of life worse
