    No full text
Robotic-assisted surgery emerged as a technological advancement in the twentieth century, with gynaecology being a key adopter of this approach. The Senhance Surgical System has gained prominence for total hysterectomies from single-site experiences, but multi-site reporting are still lacking in present literature. This multi-site study, conducted at Klaipeda University Hospital and Academic Teaching Hospital Feldkirch, aimed to explore the safety and feasibility of total hysterectomies with the Senhance Surgical System. The study involved 295 cases, showcasing a well-established routine with minimal procedure times. The average age of the patients was 53.5 years (SD: 10.3 years), ranging from 18 to 80 years. The patients’ BMI averaged 25.6 kg/m2 (SD: 6.2 kg/m2), ranging from a minimum of 17.7 kg/m2 to a maximum of 69.5 kg/m2. The duration of surgery varied between 30 and 215 min, with a median of 95 min (IQR: 81–116). The docking time was a median of 3 (IQR: 2–5) min and varied between 1.0 and 30.0 min, with a minimum to a maximum range of 1.0 to 122 min. Conversion (3 cases, 1%) and adverse events (6 cases, 2%) were infrequent. Additionally, robotic malfunctions were recorded minimally in 4,1% (12 cases) of the procedures, and pain on a 0–10 visual pain scale was reduced from mild [2.7 (± 1.2)] one day postoperative to minimal [0.9 (± 0.5)] at discharge. Overall, a great routine with the Senhance Surgical System proves good control and, thus, feasibility and safety. Therefore, the Senhance Surgical System is a viable option for total hysterectomy

Daktariškė 5 is a huntergatherer site with organic preservation in western Lithuania. It is located on a former island of Lake Biržulis, where most finds were obtained in the lacustrine environment. The excavations revealed various osseous tools, such as axes and adzes, projectile points, barbed points, gouges and chisels, dating from the 6th to the 3rd millennium cal BC. Despite the abundance of finds in the vicinity of Lake Biržulis, including those at the Daktariškė 5 site, many remain unexplored in terms of presenting their typological diversity, technology and direct AMS 14C dating. In this paper, we focus on a single case and present a study of a fully preserved socketed toggle harpoon head manufactured from antler. We provide the latest data on its technological assessments, direct AMS 14C dating, species identification by ZooMS, and archaeological and ethnographic parallels. The latter suggest that such type of implement in northern latitudes was designed for hunting large aquatic mammals. Archaeozoological evidence of large freshwater fish, beavers and otters from Lake Biržulis suggests that this tool could have been adapted to the local environment. Consequently, we discuss the origin and possible use of the toggle harpoon head in the Lake Biržulis environment

Need, advantages and capabilities of learning analytics in K12 education: study results from Lithuania /

    No full text
Learning analytics is identified as one of the essential prerequisites for ensuring the quality of learning for each student and is associated with wider opportunities for the organization of individualized, differentiated and personalized learning. One of the focuses – the individualization and personalization of natural science and mathematics education – is connected with one of the priorities of Lithuanian education, recognizing the need to develop students’ mathematical, natural science and technological competences, and to foster a culture of innovation in schools. Although the importance of integrated education is recognized for the sustainable improvement of the student’s natural science and mathematics competence, there are problems in solving the issues of integrated organization of natural sciences and mathematics in lessons, searching for the most appropriate didactic solutions at the student and class levels. The usefulness of learning analytics in modern education is not in doubt internationally, but the approach to it in educational practice is quite ambiguous: the search for tools of learning analytics, the system of its use, definitions of advantages for the learner – these are the questions that raise researchers’ attention. It is recognized that the Lithuanian scientific discourse of the use of learning analytics in science and mathematics education contains little research, examples of pedagogical practice that analyse the possibilities of digital platforms with artificial intelligence and learning analytics tools are scarce. This qualitative study was particularly sought to disclose the possibility of using learning analytics in the science education and math lessons. Focus group participants were teachers and students from general education schools in Lithuania who, in September – December 2021, participated in a project dedicated to the testing of learning analytics tools in science education and mathematics classes. The aim of the investigation was to extract the accumulated experience of teachers and students in working with digital platforms and in applying learning analytics based on artificial intelligence. The results of the study revealed that teachers and students have no doubts about the advantages of digital platforms integrating learning analytics based on artificial intelligence, in identifying student (class) learning gaps, learning characteristics, making data-based decisions regarding differentiation and individualization of learning. Research participants saw the importance of data generated by learning analytics in planning and organizing integrated math and science education lessons

Middle Devonian actinopterygians from Lithuania and Belarus /

    No full text
In the Baltic States and Belarus, the Middle Devonian period is characterised by an abundant fossil record of invertebrates such as scolecodonts, brachiopods, ostracods, trilobites, bivalves, crinoids, gastropods, and tentaculites. On the other hand, there was limited diversity in the conodont and other vertebrate fauna. In this study, we introduce a newly refined ichthyofaunal assemblage from the Eifelian and Givetian epochs from the present-day regions of Belarus and Lithuania. The isolated scales of Cheirolepis are identified as C. gaugeri, C. cf. gaugeri, C. aleshkai, C. cf. aleshkai, and Cheirolepis sp., while Orvikuina is represented by the isolated scales of O. vardiaensis and Orvikuina sp. The histological analyses for the scales of Orvikuina are provided here. Moreover, Orvikuina and Cheirolepis taxa are now recognised to be widely distributed throughout the Baltic States, especially Lithuania and Belarus, as a result of these findings. Thus, this ichthyofaunal data markedly improved the biostratigraphic correlation within the study region and expanded the paleogeographic distribution of these taxa during the Eifelian and Givetian time in Laurasia

Occupational Stress-Induced Consequences to Employees in the Context of Teleworking from Home: A Preliminary Study /

    No full text
Challenges when many people moved their jobs from the office to home because of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions have put stress on employees’ daily routine and professional lives. This article investigated the experience of individuals working not at the office and disclosed consequences of occupational stress such as mental and physical exhaustion, social deprivation, decreased work commitment, professional cynicism, and professional burnout. The preliminary study was based on a survey of 202 employees in Lithuania who were teleworking from home throughout the pandemic. According to the results, it can be assumed that teleworking had rather negative effects on employee wellbeing, as many teleworkers tended to suffer mental and physical exhaustion and social deprivation when working from home within pandemic. The psycho-emotional state of employees seems to be a key factor influencing the intellectual resources of an organization in a period of uncertainty

Tourism is considered as a powerful life force for economic and social development. The tourism sector stimulates economic growth both nationally and internationally, increasing employment and investment, with the export of services developing in both quantitative and qualitative terms. Tourism contributes to the preservation of cultural and natural heritage, it guarantees income which could be used to finance cultural heritage objects and infrastructures, promoting the overall perception of European identity and citizenship based on diversity and exceptionality (European Tourism Manifesto, 2022). In 2021, Lithuania Travel, a public enterprise, carried out research on the development of the tourism sector with the analysis of research findings provided by the expert group of the World Tourism Organisation (WTO) and the European Travel Commission (ETC). According to the research, the period of crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the severe restrictions applied to the tourism sector in all countries, which not only had short-term negative effects, but also changed travel traditions and habits (increased demand for nature and domestic tourism, health, hygienic conditions and safety considered as the most important criterion when choosing a travel destination), is also relevant as Lithuania needs to maximise its potential by creating an image of a safe country with high standards of hygiene. According to the above-mentioned research, the integration of innovations and technological novelties in the tourism sector was also emphasised. In the course of the development of the tourism industry, of which the segment of health tourism is a part, with the ambition not only to reach the quantitative rates of 2019, but even to exceed them, it is reasonable to assess the socio-economic impact. The aim of this article is – to present aspects of socio-economic impact of health tourism on sending and receiving countries. During the systematic review of the research literature, the search for research articles was carried out in the following databases: Cambridge Journals Online; EBSCO; Emerald Publishing; SAGE Journals Online; Science direct; Tylor&Francis etc. The research articles included in the systemic research review cover the period from 1999 to 2023. The methods of comparative analysis, synthesis, graphical presentation and generalisation were used to present the research results. The study assessed the socio-economic impact of health tourism in two areas: positive and negative impact on the countries that send and receive tourists. The analysis of the research literature carried out has shown that if the appropriate regulatory mechanism of health services is not ensured, as well as the appropriate and fair distribution of income from health tourism activities, it may be difficult for low-income social groups to receive timely health services. Therefore, during the development of the health tourism industry, special attention should be paid to ensuring equal access to health services for all social groups, as well as to the training of competent professionals working in health tourism organisations

The paper deals with the problem of the requirements enhancement related to a particular problem domain. New requirements related with problem domain (user, customer study program) are elicited and compared with the old requirements which are documented before. The modified Value Chain Model (VCM-based) framework for the refinement of new requirements, assessment and enhancement of old system requirements is developed and discussed. Enterprise management information interaction is specified as an Elementary Management Cycle (EMC), linking enterprise management function and process by a feedback loop. A modified Value Chain and Elementary Management Cycle model was created to describe management knowledge updating process. Proposed hierarchical modified Value Chain Model and Elementary Management Cycle model allows to structure domain knowledge identification and updating processes
