The Circular Economy (CE), as a possible transformation of economies, became very popular and widely discussed from 2015 when the worldwide importance of ecological preservation became highly in demand. To be able to implement the circular economy concept in various economies, its importance and prepared alterations to government regulations have to be widely discussed, and at the same time businesses and consumers have to prepare to live and work in the new paradigm. Consumers have to note the additional value of circular products and services, and their positive impact on health and the environment. Businesses will only start changing when they realise that new business models are available and they can keep profitability at the same level, even though consumption in general might change. The main aim of this article is to perform a theoretical analysis of the impact of the circular economy on a state’s economy. The main tools used for the research in the article were analysis, comparison and the summary of scientific literature. The article overviews possible changes and their impact on state economics in the future

    No full text
The article explores the dynamics of domestic violence in the city of Klaipėda over the period 2010 to 2014, with the aim of demonstrating how the Republic of Lithuania’s Law on Protection against Domestic Violence (LOPADV), passed in 2011, raised a relatively marginalised phenomenon to the level of a relevant social problem. The statistical data presented in the article call for a detailed analysis of the dynamics of the phenomenon in order to identify the social and legal causes of changes in domestic violence, and to anticipate prerequisites for strategies related to the safety of the victims of violence and the prevention of violence. The article analyses cases of violence registered with Klaipėda city’s Chief Police Commissariat, in an attempt to evaluate the social profile of domestic violence, and to highlight the essential characteristics of perpetrators and victims. By transcending the rather narrow boundaries of the psychological treatment of this phenomenon, an attempt is made to identify the most important empirical characteristics that would lead in the long run to an opportunity for the sociological interpretation of the phenomenon

The aim of our study was to determine whether EI and LT vs. intuitive thinking (CRT score) are related to participation in professional sports, independent exercise, and exercise at a gym/health center compared with no exercise. We selected 20 of the most popular types of exercise in Lithuania among respondents who exercise independently or at a gym/health center, and we ranked these types of exercise according to the participants’ emotional intelligence and logical thinking. We studied 4545 women and 1824 men aged 18–74 years with a focus on whether emotional intelligence and logical thinking are related to type of exercise. Participation in any exercise was significantly related to emotional intelligence in men and women. Women in professional sports solved the lowest number of logic tasks. Women who exercise independently or at a gym/health center had better logical thinking than those who do not exercise. Among men, logical thinking was not associated with the type of exercise. We found the tendency for a negative correlation between EI and LT in the 20 most popular types of exercise. Emotional intelligence correlated positively with participation in MVPA. The highest emotional intelligence was in women who participate in dance or Pilates and in men who participate in martial arts, wrestling, boxing, or yoga. Logical thinking was the highest in men who participate in triathlon and in women who perform CrossFit. Men who practice martial arts or track and field and women who participate in cycling were in the top five for emotional intelligence and logical thinking

Determination of fuel atomization quality in compression ignition engines using acoustic emission signal /

    No full text
The analysis of fuel injection processes in diesel engines showed the convergence of physical parameters affecting the mean diameter of the Sauter SMD (selected as a spray quality parameter) of the atomized fuel droplets and the parameters of the acoustic signal emission originating from the spring waves accompanying the atomization process. In experimental studies, the laser diffrac-tion method was used to measure the atomization quality with the Malvern Spraytec device. For the acoustic signal recording and processing there was used the measurement set with a Fujicera 1045S sensor. The correlation between the values of the Sauter diameter and the energy of the acoustic signal has been obtained on the basis of which a method has been developed to assess the quality of fuel atomization in compression ignition engines by measuring the acoustic signal re-corded during the fuel injection process

The purpose of the article is to determine the quality and motivation for service of the interwar naval personnel. This is achieved through the analysis of the personnel preparation level, the scope of activities and traditions, supported by comparison with interwar navies of neighbouring nations: Estonia, Latvia and Poland, as well as contemporary Lithuanian Navy personnel. The main objectives of the research are outlined as follows: 1. to analyse the professional and military preparedness of personnel of the interwar navy, available training opportunities drawing a comparison with the neighbouring nations and the personnel of modern navies, and to evaluate the abilities of the military personnel to render resistance. 2. to research and compare the nuances of navy establishment and reestablishment, its activities, the daily life of naval personnel and servicerelated challenges, and reveal the threats the interwar fleet had been facing drawing a comparison with the contemporary realities. 3. to examine the symbols, insignia, and traditions of the interwar navy and their current continuity, as well as to determine their motivating potential. The chronological boundaries of the study cover two periods: from 1918 (Declaration of Independence of Lithuania) until 1940 (Soviet occupation) and since 1992 (re-established navy) up to this day. In the second half of the 1930s, the European Armies were preparing for a new armed conflict, and the Lithuanian Army was no exception. The task of the Lithuanian Army leadership was to respond to external threats and to prepare, as far as possible, army units that would be able to carry out the defence of the country should the probable hostile forces invade the territory of Lithuania. Meanwhile, commanders were required to ensure uninterrupted and timely unit control during both mobilization and the time of war. To this end, the leadership of the Lithuanian Army planned to use the available communication units, which were to facilitate the exchange of information, and this information was to assist the commanders in making a decision during any military operation. The Communication Battalion of the Military Equipment Parts and the Communication Battalions of the Infantry Divisions were used to ensure the command and control of the Lithuanian Army. Communications in the Lithuanian Army was an auxiliary type of weapons. In the units of army and infantry divisions, the masters of support weapon types were advisers to the commanders of the army or divisions on the use of weapons types. During the peace and war, the main military telephone - telegraph and radio networks were created in the Lithuanian Army, they connected all units of the army. Radio networks were intended for use with large, medium, or small radio stations. An additional or duplicated communication network was supported by live means of communication - pigeons. At the level of the Lithuanian Army unit, military aviation was also used to maintain command communications with other types of weapons. The planes were used to send or retrieve orders and messages. The major part of communication equipment of the Lithuanian Army was purchased from 1935 to 1940. The communication equipment was of a newer model, lighter with higher performance, and better parameters. Light, heavy, and underwater telephone cable, radio stations of various levels, telephones, switches, communications and mobile dovecote carriages were purchased. [...]

Feasibility study of the biochar production by pyrolysis and its application.

    No full text
The amount of bio-waste is increasing every year, therefore, in order to apply the principle of the circular economy, it is possible to produce not only biofuels from biomass waste, but also a by-product - biochar. Biochar can be a great tool for improving the physical and chemical properties of the soil, increasing plant fertility, clearing the soil of contaminants, and so on. During the experiment, slow pyrolysis was performed at atmospheric pressure, gradually raising the temperature. Local raw materials for the pyrolysis process - rapeseed waste after biodiesel production, sewage sludge, corn stalks. The course of the pyrolysis process and the yields of the obtained products were analyzed. The purpose of the pyrolysis process is to produce biochar. The physical and chemical properties of the produced biochar were also investigated - elemental composition (C, H, N, P), organic carbon content, pH, density. The produced biochar is then applied to the soil by growing two different crops - buckwheat and mustard. The effects of biochar on immobilization of heavy metals, soil pH, plant biomass and altitude are investigated

A multi-criteria decision analysis model for ship biofouling management in the Baltic Sea /

    No full text
Biofouling of ship hulls form a vector for the introduction of non-indigenous organisms worldwide. Through increasing friction, the organisms attached to ships' hulls increase the fuel consumption, leading to both higher fuel costs and air emissions. At the same time, ship biofouling management causes both ecological risks and monetary costs. All these aspects should be considered case-specifically in the search of sustainable management strategies. Applying Bayesian networks, we developed a multi-criteria decision analysis model to compare biofouling management strategies in the Baltic Sea, given the characteristics of a ship, its operating profile and operational environment, considering the comprehensive environmental impact and the monetary costs. The model is demonstrated for three scenarios (SC1-3) and sub-scenarios (A-C), comparing the alternative biofouling management strategies in relation to NIS (non-indigenous species) introduction risk, eco-toxicological risk due to biocidal coating, carbon dioxide emissions and costs related to fuel consumption, in-water cleaning and hull coating. The scenarios demonstrate that by the careful consideration of the hull fouling management strategy, both money and the environment can be saved. Biocidal-free coatings with a regular in-water cleaning and a debris capture system provide a promising alternative. However, in some cases biocidal coating remains the best option. We suggest biocidal-free coating with a regular in-water cleaning using a capture system is generally the lowest-risk option. The best biocidal-free coating type and the optimal in-water cleaning interval should be evaluated case-specifically, though. In some cases, however, biocidal coating remains the best option

The relevance of the topic: The topic is relevant and new because all the world is facing the COVID-19 pandemic at the moment. The work of emergency medics is one of the most stressful and especially now, when the workload is increased, work conditions are dangerous. The workers, whose work‘s essence and content consist of frequent and intense contacts with other people, suffer from severe mental strain that eventually can occur as emotional exhaustion, the loss of interest to work, communication disorders, deteriorating physical well-being. There is particularly high risk that it all could lead to higher than usual occupational stress burnout syndrome when there is shortage of staff and the flows of patients are increasing. The aim of the research: to analyse the emergency nurses who work at emergency ambulance stations, occupational stress and burnout at the time of COVID-19 pandemic. The methods of the research: 1. analysis of scientific literature. 2. quantitative research by using a standardized written questionnaire. The results. The research revealed that between experienced burnout and stress, there is positive and significant connection. It also showed that emergency nurses burnout and stress significations are higher than average. By the way, the emergency nurses stress is determined by the burnout that is caused by work with patients. The level of experienced burnout and stress depends on such demographic characteristics as sex, age, work experience and workload. Conclusions. The scientific literature review revealed a lot of different opinions and submitted definitions of stress, so generally it can be defined as organism reaction to various unpleasant emotional experiences. The research showed that the majority of the respondents suffer from high level of somatic and cognitive stress, which can lead to the fact that the majority of the respondents experience higher than average stress. The majority of the respondents experience burnout, caused by work with patients. From all the nursing specialists, working at emergency ambulance stations, that took part in the research, two thirds experience occupational burnout. Emergency nurses, working at emergency ambulance stations, stress is significantly influenced by burnout caused by work with patients. Meanwhile, personal burnout and occupational burnout do not have significant influence
