    A Comparative Study of White Muscle and Red Muscle Fiber Architectural Parameters

    The primary objective of this research was to compare red muscle fiber and white muscle fiber muscle architectural parameters of vastus lateralis (VL). The study sample consisted of 70 recreationally active male students from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. One repetition maximum Dr. Hatfield test was used to determine muscle fiber type. Thirty (N1 = 15 red muscle fiber group and N2 = 15 red muscle fiber group) out of 70 samples were retained in study for further evaluation. Muscle architectural parameters (VL, pennation angle [PA], fascicle length [FA], and muscle thickness [MT]) were measured using B-mode ultrasonography. Independent sample t-test was employed to determine a significant difference between selected white muscle fibers group and selected red muscle fibers on the basis of selected muscle architectural parameters. The vastus lateralis muscle showed differences in its PA, FA, and MT between different muscle fiber groups. The PA of red muscle fiber group was greater than white muscle fiber group, whereas the FA and MT of white muscle fiber group were greater than red muscle fiber group. In conclusion, architectural parameters studies carried on specific sports group will be helpful in future, and muscle architectural parameters may be considered as a new approach for muscle fiber type classification in the future

    Investigation of Flavonoids in Stereospermum suaveolens DC Leaves (Patala) Using HPTLC Analysis for Inflammatory Pain, Swelling, and Edema Treatment

    Background: As per extensive research study, it was observed that Stereospermum suaveolens DC (Patala) is rich sources of flavonoids. These phytoconstituents have played an important role in prevention and maintenance of acute and chronic diseases of pain and inflammation. There is need to explore method for identification and quantification of the presence of flavonoids in S. suaveolens DC leaves (SSL) by qualitatively and quantitatively and to establish its mechanism in pain, swelling and edema Aim: The aim of the study was to identify and assess role of flavonoids in SSL by high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) analysis and animal screening models of inflammatory pain, swelling, and edema. Materials and Methods: HPTLC to quantify flavonoid in the ethyl acetate fraction of plant component in comparison with Quarcetin. The inflammatory pain, swelling, and edema method were investigated by acetic acid induced writhing method in mice, histamine-induced edema in Wistar rats, and croton oil-induced ear edema in mice. The test doses 125 mg/kg, 250 mg/kg, and 500 mg/kg oral administration (p.o.) of ethyl acetate fraction of SSL were selected by oral acute toxicity OECD 423. Results: HPTLC analytical method estimated presence of flavonoids and estimated amount was 22.64%. However, inhibition in histamine-induced paw edema and reduction inhibition in ear edema significantly (P < 0.05) observed by dose-dependent effect and antinociceptive activity detected on acetic acid induced writhing response method in mild to moderately using one-way analysis of variance method. Conclusion: It was clear that flavonoids were responsible for direct and indirect release of intermediate inflammatory mediators and promote its role in the treatment of pain and swelling

    Correlation between Spinal Instability and Ankle Injuries in Amateur Marathon Runners

    Background: Marathon running is becoming more popular among middle-aged people who have no prior running experience. Improper or incomplete knowledge increases the risk of injuries in amateur runners. Individuals with spinal instability experience alteration in balance control while walking as well as running which in turn results in asymmetrical bodyweight distribution throughout the lower extremity. This changes the pattern of running leading to injuries of hips, knees, and ankle. Methods: The objective of the study was to correlate spinal instability with ankle injuries in amateur marathon runners. In this study, both male and female amateur marathon runners between the age group of 20 and 45 years with normal body mass index (BMI) were chosen and individuals with the previous surgery as well as degenerative diseases of spine and ankle fractures were ruled out. Spinal instability tests were carried out on amateur marathon runners with symptoms of instability. Subjects were asked questions related to ankle injuries. Outcome measures used were Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and tests for spinal instability. Results: About 57% of participants were tested positive for the passive lumbar extension test and 42% of participants were tested positive for the prone instability test. There was the presence of ankle pain (68%), ankle swelling (24%), heel pain (60%), blisters (42%), ankle sprain (28%), and strain (26%) in selected participants. There were 68% runners with minimal disability and 32% runners with moderate disability. Conclusion: Amateur marathon runners with spinal instability had the presence of ankle injuries like ankle pain, ankle swelling, heel pain, blisters, ankle sprain, and strain. Based on the test performed and interpretation of the ODI and after correlating spinal instability with ankle injuries, we concluded that spinal instability increases the risk of ankle injuries in amateur marathon runners

    Effectiveness of Muscle Energy Technique with Free Exercises on Quality of Life in Chronic Rheumatoid Arthritis

    Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory, symmetrical involvement polyarthritis disease. It affects many tissues in the body. The prevalence of RA in women varies from 0.5 to 3.8% and in men 0.15 to 1.37% with peak incidence in fourth decade of life. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to determine the effect of muscle energy technique (MET) with free exercise on quality of life (QOL) in chronic RA. Materials and Methods: An experimental study was carried out using simple random sampling method during 1 year in Krishna Hospital. Pre- and post-design was used for assessing the study. SPSS software was used for analysis. Result: A total of 30 subjects were involved as per inclusion and exclusion criteria and assessed with numerical rating scale (NRS) and health assessment questionnaire (HAQ). There was only one group. There is statistically significant difference with respect to mean value of NRS is (at rest) 1.30 ± 0.46, (on activity) 3.26 ± 0.58 with P < 0.0001, and HAQ 1.19 ± 0.25 with P < 0.0001. Conclusion: This study concluded that MET with free exercises on QOL in chronic RA has shown significant improvement clinically and statistically on QOL and pain

    Nutrient Dense Ready to Prepare Meetha cheela for Elderly People at Risk of Malnutrition

    Elderly people suffer from a number of physical, psychological, and social changes which makes them vulnerable to malnutrition. These changes present the need to develop nutrient dense products which can be easily prepared by them. The present study was planned with the objective to prepare such a product. The ingredients for the ready to prepare (RTP) sweet cheela mix were subjected to various processing techniques to increase nutrient availability and digestibility. A combination of wheat, green gram whole, and finger millet (ragi) was used in different proportions (15%, 30%, 45%, and 60%) in the first stage of value addition. Value addition was carried out in the most acceptable variation from Stage 1, using processed mango, nuts, and oilseeds in different proportions (10%, 20%, and 30%). The RTP meetha cheela mix of the most acceptable variation was selected through sensory evaluation and then subjected to biochemical analysis and shelf life assessment. The results revealed MCF3 (30%) to be the most acceptable variation after Stage 2 value addition, which contained flours of malted finger millet, wheat, green gram along with dried ripe mango, almonds, raisins, sunflower seeds, and sesame seeds. The prepared mix had statistically significant higher amount of fat, fiber, ash, carbohydrate, energy, Vitamin C, β carotene, Vitamin E, calcium, potassium, and total antioxidant activity. Low moisture levels and vacuum packaging provided the product a good shelf life till 3 months

    Minimum Dietary Diversity-Women Score, a Key Indicator of Micronutrient Adequacy and its Association with Iron Status among Pregnant Women: Evidence from a Hospital-Based Cross-Sectional Study

    A diversified diet is crucial for micronutrient adequacy in a pregnant woman. Iron deficiency Anemia (IDA) is linked to a lack of diversity in diets. The Minimum Dietary Diversity-Women (MDD-W) is a global indicator developed by the FAO to assess diet quality among women of reproductive age. The study seeks to determine the prevalence of MDD scores and its association with sociodemographic factors and iron status among pregnant women. Hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted among pregnant women at the women’s hospital, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh using systematic sampling frame. An enumerator-administered semi-structured interview schedule was used. Hemoglobin levels were assessed and IDA categorized. The prevalence of anemia was 47.4%, of which only 18.1% of women consumed a diverse diet and 81.89% had low MDD-W scores. The mean hemoglobin was 10.82 g/dl, Standard deviation 1.58. Socioeconomic status showed significant correlation to anemia (P = 0.001), and an OR of 1.099 at 95% confidence interval. The high prevalence of IDA and low MDD-W scores proves the need for increased awareness on dietary diversity rates among pregnant women so that micronutrient adequacy can be achieved

    The pharmaceutical branch of Ayurveda, Rasa Shastra goes into great depth regarding how to prepare various metals and minerals for maximum therapeutic benefit. One of the most prominent Rasa Dravyas, Loha (iron) is non-homologous and extremely harmful to the human body. It must be transformed into a homologous form known as Loha Bhasma. Among the Loha, Kanta Loha is considered the best. In this article, the information regarding Kanta Loha, collected from Ayurvedic classics, as well as information regarding magnetite, is also included. The goal of this study was to highlight the Ayurvedic classic references and modern knowledge of Kanta Loha (Magnetite) and its importance. This article contains studies on Kanta Loha that have been published in both index and non-index journals. For acquiring pertinent knowledge, Ayurvedic Samhitas with commentaries and textbooks on Ayurveda and modern medicine are advised. The knowledge on Kanta Loha scattered across Ayurveda has been gathered together for a better understanding of its relevance in the human body through various approaches, as well as its modern elements.     The Effects of Retro-Walking in Non-Specific Low Back Pain among Young Individuals: A Systematic Review

    Objectives: The purpose of this systematic review was to determine the effect of retro-walking in non-specific low back pain (LBP) among young individuals. Methodology: This systematic review study has been carried out through PRISMA guideline. This systematic review has been conducted by researcher who searched articles using electronic search for publications in various electronic database: Google Scholar, PubMed/Medline, and Research gate. After implementing the selection criteria, articles published between the years 2000–2020 have been selected. Total 70 full-text published articles were selected from different electronic database. Out of 70, only 36 articles were included in this systematic review on the basis of selection criteria. Studies of human participants of 18–35 years of age having history of non-specific LBP were eligible. All the articles have been determine using Modified Downs and Black scale and scores have been awarded for the items selected on a 27 point scale. Findings: On reviewing the previous published articles, the result of this systematic review study shows that there is significant effect of retro-walking in non-specific LBP. Furthermore, there is considerable effect of retro-walking found in terms of improving muscles strength and reducing disability associated with the non-specific LBP.     Exploring the Impact of Electronic Health on Total Quality Management in Jordanian Hospitals: The Mediating Role of Knowledge Management Technology

    The aim of this study is to measure the impact of electronic-health (e-health) on total quality management (TQM) through knowledge management (KM) technology as a mediating variable at the hospitals of Irbid Governorate in Jordan. Six elements of the e-health variable were considered, including e-health records, e-data transmission, e-medical prescriptions, video consultations, medical image sharing, and continuous medical learning. A questionnaire was designed and distributed to a sample of 600 individuals working at 15 different hospitals that apply an e-health system in the Irbid Governorate in Jordan; 566 questionnaires were deemed valid for statistical analysis. The results of this study show that there is a statistically significant impact of e-health on TQM, at level P ≤ 0.05, through the mediating role of KM technology at Irbid Governorate hospitals in Jordan. Although the data were collected from hospitals at the Irbid Governorate in Jordan only, it is hoped the results will have some validity for the rest of hospitals in the Jordanian health system. The most significant recommendation of the study with practical implication is to set TQM as an administrative approach at the hospitals of the governorate of Irbid in Jordan, and require the adoption and implementation of an e-health system as a requirement for all Jordanian hospitals to acquire local accreditation certificate with the overall goal of improving the quality of healthcare
