Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common metabolic disorders in the present era from altered lifestyle. Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1C) is the most reliable blood parameter for diagnosis and prognosis of diabetes mellitus. Gilbert syndrome in diabetic patients lowers the prevalence of microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus. Even though Gilbert syndrome is a fortunate factor in this patient, progressive weight loss is the raising concern. From proteolysis and diuresis, kidneys can get damaged in course of time. Uncontrolled HbA1C again can increase the risk of complications of diabetes mellitus. In this case, HbA1C and weight loss with diabetes mellitus improved with an individualized homeopathic approach. Natrum Muriaticum was selected on a constitutional basis, and it was administered on an LM scale which helped the patient in bringing down blood parameters and managing weight loss of Diabetes

Drinking water or potable water is a common source for generation of purified water or demineralized water which is used for processing of medicinal products such as tablets, capsules, syrups, and nasal sprays. Before allowing for purification, it is manufacturer’s responsibility to ensure the microbial load control in the source water to get good quality product water and to avoid biofilm formation in waterlines. The current research involves the study of an effectiveness of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) at various concentrations of water pH on microbial control by following pour plate technique. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of lowering the pH on the recovery of Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Three groups were tested by challenging known population of P. aeruginosa by varying the pH of 5.0, 7.0 and 9.0. No significant difference was observed at pH 5.0 and 7.0 and the recovery increased when the pH increased at 9.0. Effective microbial control was obtained at neutral pH. The increase of pH resulted decrease of effectiveness of NaOCl

One of the most common symptoms in anorectal diseases which encounters in routine clinical practice is Kshata guda, that is, Parikartika, mentions in Ayurved Samhitas. Parikartanam means excessive cutting pain around the anus. Pain is the most important clinical symptoms in this disease. Anal fissure is one of the eloquent causes of pain with per rectum bleeding, sphincter spasm in the anal region at times. Fissure is a crack or a split in the lower end of anal canal. Bailey and Love (1968) have described fissure-in-ano as an elongated ulcer in long axis of anal canal. It is mostly due to constipation. Exact etiology is obscure, one theory is that the fissure-in-ano is caused by overstretching of the epithelial lining of the anal canal by the pressure of a hard fecal mass during defecation against the posterior wall of anorectal junction which is relatively poor supported by musculature on this aspect of the rectum and anal canal. In this case series, the cases are observe symptomatically for the drug healing properties and the objective of the hypothetical parameters shows fruitful results with the application of Yashtimadhu tail (medicated oil) in the management of Parikatika (Fissure-in-ano), leading to non-surgical management of Parikatika (Fissure-in-ano) in very cost-effective way

Point of Care Microbiological Tests in Periodontology

    Get PDF
Periodontal diseases involve a complex inflammatory response of the periodontal tissues against various micro-organisms leading to destruction of the tooth supporting structures. Laboratory investigations have remained the mainstay for analytical processes of a large number of samples involving various disciplines. However, due to the limitations regarding health-care budgets, there has been a paradigm shift from central laboratories to point of care tests (POCT). Newer diagnostic tests can prove to be beneficial in evaluation of patient’s response to periodontal therapy. Oral fluid-based POCT used selectively are now being utilized as the potential “chairside” tests for determination of oral diseases

One of the true tests of headship is the skill to identify a problem before it becomes an emergency. Ebola virus also called Ebola hemorrhagic fever is rare but fatal illness. Ebola is named after the Ebola River in Zaire. It earliest emerged in Sudan and Zaire. These viruses are to be found in sun- Saharan Africa. This spreads through human to human transmission. It is transmitted to human population from wild animals such as fruit bats, chimpanzees, and monkeys. Often blood or body fluids of infected animals contains this virus and contact with it makes human vulnerable to Ebola virus disease (EVD). No vaccine as such available to combat this deadly disease. On the other hand, early detection of case and symptomatic treatment aid in fast recovery. The aim of the study was (1) to assess the knowledge regarding Ebola virus among nursing students, (2) to find association between knowledge score and demographic characteristics, and (3) to develop an information booklet on EVD based on knowledge of nursing students. Quantitative approach and descriptive design were used in the study. The study was conducted in Arihant College of Nursing, Haridwar. Convenient sampling technique was used to collect data from 60 subjects. Based on findings of the study, it was concluded that the mean knowledge score was 07.42 ± 2.28. A majority of subjects, 54 (90%) were having poor knowledge and 6 (10%) were having average knowledge regarding EVD. No subjects were having good knowledge regarding EVD. This study concluded that there is a need of upgrading knowledge and awareness regarding EVD among nursing students. Although it is not a disease of Asian region, chances of international spread are always there
