    Guar gum: Properties and its Role in Pre-diabetes and Cholesterol – A Review

    The guar bean (Cyamopsis tetragonoloba) is an erect annual legume and its grows about 2’–9’ high. The buds of these plants start out white and change into a light pink as the flower opens. These flowers then turn deep purple and are followed by fleshy seed pods, which are allowed to ripe and are harvested in summer. The gum extracted from the guar beans forms a gel in water, commonly referred to as guar gum. Guar is extremely draught resistant. The guar seeds used in making medicine are useful in pre-diabetic conditions and the early stages of late-onset diabetes. This review is incorporated with the uses of guar gum and its role in conditions such as pre-diabetes and cholesterol

    Sensory Evaluation of Madhyama Paka and Khara Paka Katupila Taila by Triangle Test

    Sensory evaluation is a quantitative science in which numerical data are collected to establish lawful and specific relationships between product characteristics and human perception. Among the sensory methods available, Triangle test method was adopted. The purpose of this study was to differentiate Madhyama Paka and Khara Paka Katupila Taila with regard to smell and color. Forty pre-trained assessors were asked to identify the blindly coded sample analogous. The results were calculated using Python software and analyzed using receiver operating characteristics curve, area under curve (AUC), and d-prime (d’) with the help of sensR package in R-studio ver. 1.0.143. For both attributes, both the samples were correctly identified with a significance level of P < 0.001 and AUC of 1 and 0.999 for each set, respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that sensory analysis method efficiently discriminated the Madhyama Paka and Khara Paka Katupila Taila samples and thus can serve as a cost-effective routine quality control tool

    Assessment of Subjective Well-being among the Elderly Residing in Lucknow City

    Research Background: Aging procedure is the action of growing old or progressing the appearance and attribute of old age. Subjective well-being is the self-observation and practice of positive and negative emotional responses and global and specific cognitive evaluations of well-being with life. The purpose of the study was to assess the subjective well-being of the elderly in Lucknow city. Methodology: An interview schedule along with the WHO (Five) Well-Being Index (1998 version) (subjective well-being assessment, psychiatric research unit) scale was used to collect the data. Descriptive research design and purposive random sampling technique were used to select sample for study. Major findings: The study revealed that most of elderly people came under good well-being category (50.0% of male and 43.47% of female) of subjective well-being assessment across gender. The study showed that there was no difference in subjective well-being of respondents across different age groups and gender. Conclusion: This study concluded with positive finding as we found during assessment that most of elderly people were having good well-being of subjective well-being. Very few respondents had poor subjective well-being

    Successful Aging among Senior Adults Across Age Residing in Lucknow City

    Research Background: Successful Aging among Senior Adults is an important area of concern that reflects their overall aging and how they deal with it. Objective: The aim of the present investigation was to study Successful Aging among Senior Adults. Methods: The study was conducted on a Purposive Random Sampling of 120 respondents who were selected from Lucknow city in the age ranging from 65 to more than 75 years of which 67 men and 53 women. “Successful Aging Scale” Questionnaire which are prepared by Reker, 2009 is used to measure Successful Aging, the questionnaire was administered. The data were coded, tabulated, and analyzed. The data obtained were subjected to statistical analyzed using mean, frequency percentage. Result: The finding of the study revealed that the majority of respondents are Successfully Aged and the study also reveals that there is no significant difference between the Successful Aging of respondents and their Gender

    Antidiarrheal Activity of Albizzia lebbeck Leaves

    Worldwide, more than 5–8 million deaths are caused each year by diarrhea. At present, used anti-diarrheal drugs show adverse effects in some form. Hence, there is a need to explore natural drugs as alternative therapy. Preliminary phytochemical screening, Acute oral toxicity and antidiarrheal activity of 70% ethanolic extract of the Albizzia lebbeck leaves (ALL) were performed. ALL were assessed for antidiarrheal activity using castor oil, Prostaglandin-E2 (PGE2) and intestinal motility induced diarrhea in rats. On the basis of acute oral toxicity, 100 and 200 mg/kg body weight doses were selected for antidiarrheal activity. Preliminary phytochemical screenings revealed presence of flavonoids tannins and saponins in extract. ALL showed significant inhibitory activity against castor oil, PGE2 induced diarrhea and intestinal motility. On the basis of the result, it can be concluded that the ALL possess significant antidiarrheal activity

    Designing and Development of Diabetic Exercise Mat and its Effect on Sensory Motor Dysfunction in Chronic Diabetic Individuals

    Background: Diabetic neuropathy (DN) is one of the most common late complications of diabetic individual. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy causes peripheral sensory loss and motor deterioration. Objectives: The objectives of the study were to find the effect of conventional exercises on designed mat for sensory and motor dysfunction in chronic diabetic individuals. Materials and Methods: An experimental study was carried out using simple random sampling method during 1 year in Krishna Hospital. A total of 44 subjects were allocated into Groups A and B to receive conventional physiotherapy and exercise on designed mat, respectively. Protocol was conducted for 3 days per week for 6 weeks. Pre- and post-design was used for assessing the study. Results: Subjects were assessed for quantitative sensory testing (QST) and manual muscle testing (MMT). Between the groups, the QST values were for Groups A 4.40 ± 0.66 and B 3.59 ± 1.18 along with P = 0.0071. MMT ankle dorsiflexion values were for Groups A 4.27 ± 0.55 and B 3.90 ± 0.61 along with P <0.044, ankle plantar flexion values were for Groups A 4.31 ± 0.47 and B 3.95 ± 0.65 along with P = 0.04. Wrist flexion values were for Groups A 4.18 ± 0.50 and B 4.50 ± 0.51 along with P = 0.04. Wrist extension values were for Groups A 3.90 ± 0.61 and B 4.50 ± 0.59 with P = 0.002. Conclusion: This study concluded that both conventional exercises and exercise on designed mat showed significant improvement on QST and MMT. Thus, the study provided the evidence to support that exercises on designed mat are found to be more effective than conventional exercises

    Anthropometric and Body Composition Characteristics as Predictors of Ball Speed Performance in Cricket for Pace Bowlers: Multiple Regression Approach

    Aim and Objective: The study aimed to investigate the relationship of selected anthropometric and body compositional variables to the releasing speed of the ball in medium pace bowlers. Materials and Methods: Thirty senior’s women board players (BCCI) were selected for the study (mean age 23.4 ± 2.03, mean height 152.1 ± 3.44, and mean weight 52.4 ± 4.21). Sliding caliper and anthropometric rode were used for anthropometrical measurements, and for the body compositional measurement, bio-electrical impedance was used and the releasing speed of the ball was assessed using velocity speed radar gun. Results: Among all the selected variables, the model identified three variables which were muscle mass, total arm length, and fat and the regression model explains 97.6% of the total variability in the muscle mass, total arm length, and fat in relation to ball release speed of the pace bowlers and which is quite good. Conclusion: The regression equation which was developed by the model was as follow: Speed of the ball (performance of pace bowlers) = –94.767+5.15×(Muscle Mass)+1.488×(Total Arm Length)+0.220×(Fat)

    Ayurvedic Management of Mootraghata (Benign Prostate Hyperplasia) – A Systemic Review

    Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTSs) are quite common in aging males and these affect the quality of life of an individual. From out of various etiologies of LUTS, benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) has a high prevalence itself. Similarly, in ancient times, Acharya’s described various types of Mootraghata with their various etiological factors. Ayurveda clinicians and postgraduate institutes are being conducted researches or clinical trials with various modalities in the management of Mootraghata. Many of the researches done on Mootraghata remain in the library in the form of gray literature. Evidence-based medicine is the key to conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of currently available medicines for the best result of individual patient care. The research that was published in research journals can be summarized to know the treatment modalities in the management of BPH. In the review, the clinical studies/trials from the year January 2001 to 2021 are included in the study. For that purpose, the data mining was done through search engines, that is, Google Scholar, Ayush Research Portal, Dhara, AYU, Ayu-Care, J-Gate, J-Aim, Google, PubMed, Sci-Hub, and Shodhganga. In this review total, 50 studies have been collected from the available online search engine, out of 50 studies, 30 studies are having clinical intervention while 20 are review articles. Based on this review, the presented review article provides information on BPH and its treatment by herbal medicine, prognosis, and limitations of conservative treatment, and uses of parameters to the assessment of BPH

    Marital and Sexual Satisfaction, Depression, Anxiety, and Stress among Wives of Patients with Chronic Illnesses

    Objectives: The objectives of the study were to explore the psychological health, as well as the levels of marital and sexual satisfaction, of wives of patients with a chronic illness. Methods: The sample consisted of 34 women, whose husbands were diagnosed and undergoing treatment for a chronic illness (coronary heart disease; diabetes; or cancer). Results: Correlational, comparative, and predictive analyses were conducted on the data. Clinically significant marital and sexual dissatisfactions were found. Wives reported moderate levels of depression and anxiety, but severe levels of stress. Depression and sexual satisfaction were found to be significant predictors of marital satisfaction. Marital dissatisfaction scores were significantly lower for wives who were employed as compared to unemployed wives. Discussion: Wives are impacted by the illness status of their spouse. The additional stress of caregiving, along with societally ascribed roles and responsibilities on women, creates a more difficult, stressful environment, which affects the relationship satisfaction as well as psychological health and well-being

    Comparative Analysis between Effect of Shoulder Strength and Core Endurance on Bowling Speed in Pace Bowlers

    Background: Cricket has received considerable research attention due to popularity. Ability of bowlers to bowl with high-speed plays a major role in success. Earlier studies have suggested that shoulder and core play a crucial role in kinetic chain which results in improved bowling speed. Objective: The objective of this study was to study relative efficacies of shoulder strength and core endurance on bowling speed in pace bowlers. Methods: Forty male pace bowlers having age (20.10 ± 3.71) in years from Punjab participated in the study. Bowling speed was measured with Radar Gun. Shoulder strength measured with Biodex dynamometer. Core endurance was measured by McGill protocol. Statistical analysis of was carried out using SPSS version 23. Results: Bowling speed was recorded as mean ± SD 91.00 ± 10.10 km/h. Significant fair positive relationship found between bowling speed and external rotators at angular velocity of 90°/s and (r = 0.386) and shoulder flexors at 60°/s (r = 0.408), 90°/s (r = 0.383), and 120°/s (r =0.448). Trunk extension shows fair positive significant relationship (r =0.327) with bowling speed. Conclusion: The present study contributes toward pace bowlers’ training and focus on necessity of further research considering limitations of COVID-19 pandemic
