    A Study to Compare the Satisfaction Regarding Nursing Duties among Staff Nurses Working in Selected NABH Accredited and Non-NABH Accredited Hospitals of Indore City

    Aims: The aims of this study are to compare job satisfaction of nurses working in NABH accredited and non-NABH accredited hospitals of Indore. Objectives: The objective of this study were as follows: (1) To assess job satisfaction of nurses working in NABH accredited hospital and non-NABH accredited hospital. (2) To compare job satisfaction of nurses working in NABH accredited hospital and non-NABH accredited hospital. (3) To find out association of job satisfaction of nurses with selected demographic variables. Background of the Study: NABH is a hospital accreditation added values I health care delivery systems, but process is not an easy task. Accredited means that it has full filled all the parameters set by quality council based on its standards. This process needs constant team work and full determination of nurses and other health care workers. In recent years, providing high-quality health care delivery system is a fundamental challenge (Al-Enezi et al., 2009). To reach that quality level, reasonable level of nurses’ job satisfaction should be attained (Olatunji and Mokuolu, 2014). Work satisfaction of nurses is important here which motivates them to work hard. Research Approach: A quantitative research approach is used. Research Design: Descriptive research design is used. Settings of the Study: This was NABH accredited and non-NABH accredited hospital. Source of Data: Nurses working in NABH accredited and non-NABH accredited hospitals of Indore city. Data is collected through self-reporting check list which has cover seven parameters about job satisfaction among nurses. Results: Statistical analysis of the independent t-test, there was highly significant difference between job satisfaction scores of nurses working in NABH accredited and non-NABH accredited hospitals of Indore city. Conclusion: There is consistent evidence which shows that accreditation programs improve quality of work and job satisfaction of nurses. Work in systematic way increases knowledge and strength for better outcome satisfaction of work is essential as it boost ups the moral and energy to work more effectively

    Bioinformatics Analysis of Key Genes and miRNAs Associated with Small-cell Lung Cancer

    Small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) is a type of lung cancer, accounting for approximately 15% of lung cancers. SCLC is significantly associated with early recurrence, metastasis, and poor prognosis, with a 2-year survival rate after therapy, which is <5%. The molecular mechanisms underlying the development of SCLC are not clear. In this study, we identified SCLC-specific biomarkers by evaluating the differential expression of mRNA and microRNA (miRNA) profiles in SCLC tissue compared with normal lung tissue. A non-coding RNA sequence dataset (GSE19945) and transcriptome sequencing dataset (GSE6044) were downloaded from the GEO database. We identified 445 DEGs (differentially expressed genes) and 128 DE-miRNAs (differentially expressed miRNAs) using the GEO2R tool of the GEO and R limma software package. Furthermore, using the KEGG database, we identified 15 enrichment pathways, mostly associated with DNA replication, cell cycle, and oocyte meiosis mismatch repair, and the GO function was considerably enriched for 26 items. To investigate the molecular processes of key signaling pathways and cellular activity in SCLC, we used Cytoscape software to construct protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks. Using miRNAWalk, we identified 598 target genes of the 1380 miRNAs and constructed miRNA target networks. In addition, we identified eighteen overlapping genes that are regulated by 28 different miRNAs. The identified hub genes are important because they may be used as biomarkers for prognosis, diagnosis, and therapeutic target for SCLC

    Phytochemical Screening and Antibacterial Activities of Oroxylum indicum (Linn.): A Threatened Tree of India

    Oroxylum indicum belongs to the family Bignoniaceae. It is used as a traditional medicine from a very long time and because of over exploitation comes under threatened category. It is traditionally used against inflammation and bacterial infections. Keeping this in view, an attempt has been made to evaluate its pharmacological value through phytochemical analysis and antibacterial activities against four pathogenic bacteria. Results revealed that leaf and fruit extracts are rich in diverse types of bioactive compounds and showed inhibition potential against selected microbes. The present study highlights the importance of pharmacological potential of O indicum against antimicrobial resistance

    Impact of COVID-19 on the Dietary Pattern of Indian Population: A Cross-sectional Study

    Background: COVID-19 pandemic triggered fear, anxiety, and worries among people making it a phobia, named as Coronaphobia. This, in turn, changed the dietary pattern of people. Objective: The present study was carried out to investigate, whether there was a change in the dietary pattern of during pandemic. Methodology: An online survey was conducted using Google Form to assess the change in the dietary pattern of Indian population (n = 130) during the pandemic. Moreover, the present study examines the impact of socioeconomic profile of respondents to the extent of change in dietary pattern using a multiple regression equation. Results: The study finds that 76% of the participants, of which 69% were male changed their dietary pattern. Further, addition of immunity boosters along with the normal meal was prominent as the changed dietary pattern among a majority of respondents. Moreover, a majority of participants stopped consuming junk food to strengthen their immunities. In addition, the study found a significant positive effect of age (P < 0.0001) on the extent of change in dietary pattern among survey participants. Conclusion: The study concludes with the recommendation that people should consume immunity boosters and also be engaged with some physical activities to strengthen their immunities

    Challenges of Indian Pharmaceutical Industries to Meet World Requirement during COVID-19 Pandemic

    The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a pandemic on March 11, 2020, after the outbreak that was first reported in Wuhan, China in December 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic affected world economy including the pharmaceutical sector. The health crisis unleashed in the world because of this pandemic and the attempts of various countries and organizations in the world to contain it have also fuelled the greatest economic crisis in modern history. This study aims to access, analyze, and highlight opportunities and problems of the Indian pharmaceutical sector in the broader national health-care industry during the COVID-19 particularly for contract manufacturing The recent changes in the field, at the institutional and corporate levels, have placed India in the spotlight of the global pharmaceutical market, but several threats and weaknesses could limit this expansion. Descriptive and inferential analyses have been based on questionnaire, data extracted from authenticated data sources. Subsequently, a narrative strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats analysis was performed based on the results of prior investigations and on qualitative data that were retrieved from a marketing intelligence examination to generate an overall scenario analysis. Indian pharmaceutical companies have faced several challenges on various fronts. In the home market, drug prices are controlled by the drug price control order; therefore, there is strong pressure on revenues and subsequently on costs. In the international market, threats derived from pharmaceutical multinational companies are emerging as tough obstacles to overcome. This study provides a global overview of the potential growth and development of the Indian pharmaceutical sector, comparing it with internal trends and external competition. The most relevant contribution of the research relies on the shift to innovative production that Indian companies must adopt (after years of focusing only on generic drugs), and in this vein, appropriate industrial marketing solutions are indispensable

    Osmotic Fragility of Normal and Ultrasound Irradiated Human Blood

    Ultrasound is commonly employed in clinical practice as a part of physical therapy. The present paper reports the data on the effect of ultrasound on osmotic fragility of Human blood. Blood samples of volume 6 ml were obtained from healthy donors with their consent, each time an experiment was performed. To prevent the blood from coagulation, it was preserved in a heparin anticoagulant tube. The sample was then divided into two parts, that is, control sample and sample for irradiation. The human blood sample was irradiated to ultrasonic standing waves using an Ultrasonic interferometer of 3 MHz frequency for a duration of 1 h. Osmotic fragility of normal and ultrasonically irradiated human blood was determined. The study reveals variation in the osmotic fragility of ultrasonically irradiated human blood compared with that of a normal sample

    A Cross-Sectional Study of the Prevalence of Overweight and Obesity using Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference among 11–14-Year-old Children in Puducherry

    Background: Obesity in children has become more common in recent years around the world. It is estimated that India will have 17 million obese children by 2025. Increased consumption of high-calorie meals deficient in vitamins, minerals, and micronutrients, combined with decreased physical activity, is factors contributing to rising childhood obesity. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of overweight and obesity using body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference. Material and Methods: The study was a school based cross-sectional study conducted among 1386 students aged 11–14 years from four Private Urban schools of Puducherry. This was measured using WHO BMI-for-age-2007 (5–19 years) charts for boys and girls and for waist circumference using an inch tape with a cut off value at 71 cms. Results: The findings reveal that among 1386 children aged 11–14 years the prevalence of overweight and obesity in the study participants was 20.2% and 7.14%, respectively. In the overweight category, girls were overweight (52.5%) when compared to the boys (47.5%) and in the obese category, boys were (51.5%) and girls were (48.4%). The mean waist circumference of students in the overweight category was 76.61 with a standard deviation of 4.32 and in the obese category was 78.7 with a standard deviation of 4.14. A significant association was found between gender and age with the waist circumference at P < 0.001. Conclusion: The present study findings imply that overweight and obesity are a growing concern in our country and there is an urgent need to create awareness among all stakeholders

    Platelet-rich Fibrin – A Wonder Material for Periodontal Regeneration – A Clinical Case Series

    The discovery of platelet-rich fibrin has enhanced the possibility of treating periodontal defects with significantly positive results in terms of bone defect fill, probing pocket depth, and clinical attachment level, apart from aiding in healing of wounds in other surgical procedures. This case series describes the use of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) as a membrane along with allografts, in the treatment of intrabony periodontal defects, and the success of this treatment in eliminating factors such as deep periodontal pockets. The use of PRF in periodontal surgical procedures has been amply supported by various authors in the literature. Hence, it can be concluded from this case series that PRF can be used as an autologous alternative to the artificial materials for specifically treat intrabony periodontal defects with equal or better clinical outcomes

    Significance of Immunohistochemical Biomarker in Breast Carcinoma from a Single Tertiary Care Hospital in India

    Background: Breast carcinoma is the most common malignancy in female worldwide, leading cause of death in women. Immunohistochemistry plays a very important role in the prognostication and treatment determination of breast carcinoma patients. Objective: The objective of the study was to analyze the immunohistochemical markers in invasive carcinoma of breast and to correlate the expression of hormonal receptors with age of the patient, tumor size, histological grade, and lymph node metastasis. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 88 infiltrating ductal breast carcinoma sample in a tertiary care hospital of Southern Assam for a period of 2 year (January2018-December 2019). Data including age, tumor size, and histologic grade and lymph node status retrieved from pathology department. Chi-square was used to determine the statistical significance between estrogen receptors and progesterone receptors (ER/PR) status human epidermal receptor growth factor 2 (HER2/neu) status along with their correlation with various clinicopathological parameters with respect to infiltrating ductal breast carcinoma. Result: The mean age of the patients was 56.6 years. We observed correlation between ER and PR expression with age, tumor size, and tumor grade. There was correlation between HER2/neu expression and age only. None of the markers showed correlation with lymph node involvement (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Our findings showed the importance of biomarkers (ER, PR, and HER2/neu) expression as prognostic factors for therapeutic decision

    Formulation, Development and Characterization of Sustained Release Formulation of Herbal Extracts

    Aim: The aim of the present investigation is to design of sustained release dosage form of different extracts that will help in releasing only small quantities of drug over a prolonged period of time. Material and Methods: The different ingredients for formulations are given as in Table 1 below. The measured quantities of drug, HPMC, MCC and NaHCO3 were mixed thoroughly using a mortar and pistil. The granules were punched into tablets using direct compression technique. The blank formulation (or) placebo (HPMC+ MCC+NaHCO3) and polyherbal formulation were also tested using FTIR Spectrometer. The release rate kinetics of the formulations was analyzed and the data obtained were fitted into Zero order, First order, Higuchi model and Kozmeyer Peppas model. Results: The pre-formulation study results obtained on various parameters on granules were found satisfactory. The granules obtained for the batches (F1-F12) were satisfactory. No rat holing, capping or sticking was observed during the flow of granules from the hopper. The maximum weight variation of the tablets was±1.8%, which falls within the acceptable range of±5%, hence the tablets passed the weight variation test. Hardness for tablets of all batches was in the range of 4.92 to 5.35 kg/cm², which falls above the limit of not less than 3.0 kg/cm². The floating lag time ranged from 35 s to 50 s. From the Table 5, it was found that the formulation F11 has the minimum floating lag time of 35 s and maximum total floating time of 15 h with 100.12% drug content. Conclusion: The effect of ingredients in the polyherbal tablet was analyzed, where HPMC contributed as the floating matrix, MCC to increase the bulk density of the tablet and sodium bicarbonate to initiate the dissolution process
