Four-week remotely supervised aerobic exercise during the COVID-19 era: Exploring physical performance and psychosocial health in adults without COVID-19 living in rural settings
Rationale:Aggressive osteoblastoma (AO) is an extremely rare cancer that mainly affects the spine and long bones and is less frequent in craniofacial bones. Cases involving the skull are even rarer, and the low incidence rates limit our understanding of the distribution and treatment strategies of AO. The aim of this study was to explore the clinical features, imaging findings, pathological characteristics, diagnoses, treatment, and prognosis of AO involving the skull.Patient concerns:A 13-year-old male was admitted to the hospital with a painless mass on the forehead that had gradually enlarged over the past year.Diagnoses:Magnetic resonance imaging of the head revealed an abnormal signal corresponding to a region with an unclear boundary measuring 2.32 cm x 2.23 cm x 2.64 cm on the left side of the frontal bone.Interventions:The entire mass was removed, and postoperative pathological examination led to a diagnosis of epithelioid osteoblastoma.Outcomes:The patient was periodically followed up for a year, and no tumor recurrence or metastasis was observed.Lessons:AO can be diagnosed on the basis of histological examination, immunohistochemical analysis, and imaging. Gross tumor resection and regular re-examination are suitable treatment options.Level of evidence:Level I - randomized-controlled study
Effect on Calf Sex of Milk Yield in Holstein Friesian Cattle Breed
This study compared the effects of the sex of Holstein Friesian (HF) calves registered in the herdbook system on milk yield. The study material comprised 802042 milk and calving records between 2000 and 2014. When analyzing the data, the GLM ANO-VA method was used to investigate the effects of the sex of the calf and other environmental factors on milk yield. Of the calves born, 54.3% were female and 45.7% were male calves. The results show that the average lactation milk yield (LMY) of (HF) cows is 8604 +/- 3.6 kg, 305-day milk yield (305 MY) is 7028 +/- 2.4 kg and lactation length (LL) is 372 +/- 0.1 days. When cows give birth to female and male calves, LMY, 305 MY and LL are 8720 +/- 15.3 kg, 7148 +/- 10.0 kg and 370 +/- 0.5 days, respectively; 8482 +/- 15.3 kg, 6901 +/- 10.0 kg and 373 +/- 0.5 days were determined. Based on these results, it was found that cows that gave birth to female calves had a higher milk yield, and the effect of sex on milk yield was significant. The results obtained demonstrate distinct differences between cows giving birth to female versus male calves. Specifically, it was found that (HF) cows that give birth to female calves have a higher milk yield during lactation, and these differences were statistically significant. When evaluated by lactation number, the milk yield superiority of cows giving birth to female calves over those giving birth to male calves ranged from 3.89% to 1.13% for total lactation milk yield and from 4.98% to 1.80% for 305-day milk yield. Additionally, it was observed that the lactation length of cows giving birth to male calves was 1.06% to 0.55% longer than that of cows giving birth to female calves. Overall, across all lactations, HF cows that gave birth to female calves had a higher milk yield, indicating that the sex of the calf significantly influenced the milk yield of the mother
Fuzzy logic and taguchi approach for compressive strength prediction of ABS components fabricated by AM
This study investigated the prediction of compressive strength in fused deposition modeling (FDM) printed acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) samples Taguchi-fuzzy logic (FL) approach. The research examined six critical printing parameters: printing direction (PD), infill density (ID), infill pattern (IP), layer height (LH), printing speed (PS), and nozzle temperature (NT). The Taguchi L27 orthogonal array was utilized to systematically design experiments, ensuring minimal trials while maximizing the amount of obtained data. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) revealed that ID was the most influential parameter with a 37.39% contribution to compressive strength, followed by PS (26.95%) and LH (17.51%). The optimal parameter combination achieved a maximum compressive strength of 55.76 MPa with 90% ID, 100 mu m LH, and 40 mm/s PS. FL model was developed to predict compressive strength, demonstrating superior accuracy with a 3.1% average error rate compared to the Taguchi model's 3.7%. The model's reliability was validated through additional experiments, confirming its effectiveness for predicting compressive strength in FDM-printed ABS components. This research provides a robust methodology for accurately predicting mechanical properties, contributing to advancing additive manufacturing (AM) quality control
GEOMETRY OF TIMELIKE NORMAL SURFACES IN DE SITTER 3-SPACE
In this paper, we characterize the normal surfaces of regular curves in de Sitter 3-space, which is a pseudosphere in 4-dimensional Minkowski space. The results obtained in terms of curvatures, which are the basic parameters of curves in differential geometry, have always been meaningful. Here we examine with the help of the given normal surface curvatures associated with a regular curve. First of all, we obtain the geometric components of the surface, such as fundamental forms and curvatures, in terms of the curvatures of the curve. Then, we examine the special conditions of this surface, such as minimalness and flatness. Finally, we obtain some new characterizations, theorems, and results with the help of the obtained equations
SAĞLIK OKURYAZARLIĞI VE AKILCI İLAÇ KULLANIMI ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİ: BİR META ANALİZ ÇALIŞMASI
Çalışmanın amacı, sağlık okuryazarlığı ve akılcı ilaç kullanımı arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmaktır. Çalışma, meta analiz yöntemi kapsamında gerçekleştirilmiştir. YÖK Tez Merkezi, TRDizin, Google Scholar ve DergiPark veri tabanları aracılığı ile “sağlık okuryazarlığı / health literacy” ve “akılcı ilaç kullanımı / rational drug use” anahtar kelimeleri kullanılarak tarama yapılmıştır. Literatür, 1 Ocak – 19 Eylül 2024 tarihleri arasında taranmıştır. Dâhil edilme kriterleri: (1) sağlık okuryazarlığı ve akılcı ilaç kullanımı arasındaki ilişkinin araştırılmış, (2) Türkiye’de gerçekleştirilmiş, (3) Türkçe ve/veya İngilizce yayın dilinde yazılmış, (4) nicel araştırma yöntemlerinin kullanılmış, (5) tam metin erişiminin ve (6) etki büyüklüğünü hesaplamak için gerekli istatistiklerin olmasıdır. Etki büyüklüğünün hesaplanmasında korelasyon etki büyüklüğü yöntemi, ortak etki büyüklüğünün hesaplanmasında ise rastgele etki modeli kullanılmıştır (Q: 5956,51; sd: 18; p0,75; Ʈ>0,67). Meta analize 871 çalışmadan 19’u dâhil edilmiştir. Çalışmalar; 2019 ile 2024 yılları arasında, tez ve makale yayın türlerinde, Türkçe ve İngilizce yayın dillerinde ve kesitsel çalışma tasarımında yayımlanmıştır. Toplam 11.181 birey üzerinde sağlık okuryazarlığı ve akılcı ilaç kullanımı arasındaki ilişki araştırılmıştır. Egger’ın regresyon yöntemine göre ise yayın yanlılığı test edilmemiştir (t: 0,90; p: 0,19). Meta analiz sonuçları, sağlık okuryazarlığı ve akılcı ilaç kullanımı arasında yüksek düzeyde pozitif bir ilişkinin olduğunu göstermiştir (M: 0,48; %95 GA: 0,21-0,68; p<0,01). Meta analizden elde edilen bu sonucun sağlık okuryazarlığı ve akılcı ilaç kullanımını arasındaki ilişkiyi etkileyen faktörleri araştıracak çalışmalarla desteklenmesi gerekmektedir
Mothers Good Things And What Ifs: Problems And Solutions For Babyhood
Bu arastirma, annelerin bebeklik dönemine iliskin görüslerini ortaya koymak amaciyla yapilmistir. Nitel arastirma desenlerinden durum çalismasi yaklasimiyla ele alinan arastirmada, çalisma grubunu 51 anne olusturmaktadir. Arastirma verileri yari yapilandirilmis görüsmeler araciligiyla elde edilmistir. Veriler, içerik analizine tabi tutulmustur. Arastirma sonuçlarinda annelerin ebeveynlige iliskin; beslenme, çevre desteginin olmamasi, annelik stresi, uyku düzeninin bozulmasi, çocuk davranislarindan rahatsiz olma, bilgi ve beceri eksikligi konularinda zorluk yasadiklari belirlenmistir. Annelerin bebeklerin gelisimsel problemlerine yönelik olarak ise; bebeklerde biyolojik ritmin olusmamasi, fizyolojik sorunlar ve davranis problemleri konularinda sorun yasadiklari görülmüstür. Anneler, karsilastiklari sorunlari uzman desteginden yararlanip, sosyal destek araciligiyla olumlu tutum ve davranislar gelistirerek asabilmislerdir. Anneleri en çok annelik doyumunu yasadigi durumlarin olusumu, bebege gelisimsel destek saglama ve sorunlara yönelik önlem alma durumlari mutlu etmistir. Annelerin pismanligi ise; bebege zaman ayiramama, bebek gelisimi hakkinda bilgi sahibi olmama, saglik sorunlarina uygun çözümler bulamama, yanlis tutum sergileme, olumsuz kosullari düzeltememe ve dogum zamanlamasi konularinda olmustur. Sonuçlar, bebeklik döneminin daha çok zorluklar barindirdigini bu zorluklarin içinde mutluluk verici olaylarin da oldugu seklinde degerlendirilmistir. Bebeklik döneminin daha saglikli ve mutlu geçmesi için en önemli faktörün anneye yönelik sosyal destegin arttirilarak yükünün hafifletilmesi gerektigi sonucuna varilmistir. Bu baglamda bebeklik dönemi süresince annelere sosyal destegin saglanmasi önerilmektedir.This qualitative study aimed to explore mothers' views on the infant period. The research group consisted of 51 mothers, and data were collected through semi-structured interviews. Findings revealed that mothers faced various parenting challenges, including infant nutrition, lack of environmental support, maternal stress, sleep disruptions, behavioral difficulties, and limited knowledge and skills. Mothers also reported developmental concerns such as irregular biological rhythms, physiological issues, and behavioral problems in their infants. To cope with these challenges, many mothers sought professional help and relied on social support systems, which enabled them to develop positive coping strategies. Sources of satisfaction included experiencing maternal fulfillment, supporting their babies' development, and effectively addressing emerging problems. However, mothers also expressed regrets, such as not spending enough time with their babies, lacking information on infant development, being unable to handle health issues effectively, and showing inappropriate behaviors or attitudes. The timing of childbirth and the inability to change negative conditions were also sources of concern. The study concluded that although infancy is a challenging period, it also brings meaningful and joyful experiences. Enhancing social support for mothers was identified as a key factor in promoting a healthier and more positive infant-rearing experience. Increased support is strongly recommended during this critical period
Şiddet Karşıtı Bir Eylem Biçimi Olarak Gandhi’nin Hareketi ve Mücadelesi: Şiddetsizlik Felsefesinin Politik Boyutları ve Sonuçları
Mahatma Gandhi’nin şiddet karşıtı direniş felsefesini ve bu felsefenin küresel etki- lerini ele alıyor. Gandhi, 20. yüzyılın en önemli liderlerinden biri olarak, Hindistan’ın bağımsızlık mücadelesine önderlik etmiştir. Sömürgecilik, kapitalizm ve toplumsal adaletsizliklere karşı geliştirdiği ahimsa ve satyagraha ilkeleriyle dünya tarihine ka- lıcı bir etki bırakmıştır. Gandhi, şiddetin yalnızca fiziksel olmadığını, ekonomik ve toplumsal baskılar gibi farklı biçimlerinin de bulunduğunu savunmuştur. Gandhi’nin şiddetsiz direnişi, yalnızca Hindistan’da değil, dünya genelinde Martin Luther King ve Nelson Mandela gibi liderler için de bir ilham kaynağı olmuştur. Gandhi’nin ahimsa ve satyagraha ilkeleri, bireysel ahlaki sorumlulukların ötesinde toplumsal ve politik bir dönüşüm aracı olarak kabul edilmiştir. Gandhi’nin felsefesi, şiddete karşı direnişi ahlaki bir yaşam biçimi olarak benimseyen bir düşünce sistemi olarak öne çıkmış olup bireyler toplumlar için kalıcı ve sürdürülebilir bir çözüm sun- muştur. Makale tarihsel bir tartışmayı ele alıp incelediğinden çalışma için var olan kaynakları analiz edip yeni bir değerlendirme yapmaya imkan veren literatür tarama yöntemi tercih edilmiştir
Gait and static balance analysis of children with Down syndrome and comparison with typically developing children
Objectives: Syndrome-specific problems seen in children with Down syndrome (DS) may lead to gait disorders and loss of balance. This study aimed to evaluate spatiotemporal gait parameters, static balance parameters using force platform, and to examine the relationship between gait and static balance parameters in children with DS between 3-8 years of age. Methods: The study included 20 children with DS and 15 typical developing (TD). The GAITRite (R) electronic walkway was used to evaluate spatiotemporal characteristics of gait and Bertec Force Platform for static balance analysis. Results: Increased cadence, decreased cycle time, shorter step and stride length, greater support surface were identified in children with DS. Balance analysis revealed greater anteroposterior (AP) and mediolateral (ML) sway ranges on normal and foam surfaces. Statistically significant differences were found between children with DS and TD in gait and balance parameters (p < 0.05). Furthermore, significant relationships were found between normalized velocity, stride length, swing phase and stance phase percentage. Notably, stance and swing phase percentages were correlated with AP postural sway on both surfaces, while stride length and normalized velocity were related to ML sway on normal surfaces. Conclusions: The results of this study demonstrated the characteristics of gait and static balance parameters in children with DS and revealed the differences from TD. Early identification of these problems will be beneficial in planning effective physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs
Synthesis characterzation of structure, evaluation of biological properties of new ligand and metal complexes containing azomethine group
Son yıllarda, Schiff bazı ligandları, çeşitli yapısal özellikleri ve geniş fizikokimyasal özellikleri nedeniyle akademik araştırmacıların yoğun ilgisini çekmektedir. Schiff bazı geçiş metal komplekslerinin sentezi, spektral karakterizasyonu ve yapı-aktivite ilişkileri çok sayıda çalışmada kapsamlı bir şekilde araştırılmıştır. Potansiyel farmasötik uygulamalara sahip yeni bileşiklerin geliştirilmesi, günümüz bilim dünyasında artan bir ilgi odağı haline gelmiştir. Tıbbi inorganik kimya, yenilikçi teşhis ve tedavi ajanlarının tasarlanmasını ve geliştirilmesini sağlayarak, günümüzde tedavisi zor olan hastalıkların anlaşılması ve tedavi edilmesine önemli katkılar sağlamaya devam eden zorlu bir araştırma alanıdır. Schiff bazı ligandları, azot donörleri olarak, koordinasyon kimyası yoluyla ilaç geliştirmede değerli kaynaklar olan metal kompleksleri oluşturmak için geçiş metalleri ile kolayca koordine olabilirler. Farmakolojik etkileri ve neredeyse tüm geçiş metalleriyle kompleks oluşturma yetenekleri nedeniyle, Schiff baz ligandları yoğun araştırmaların önemli bir konusu olmaya devam etmektedir. Bu çalışmada, bir Schiff bazı ligandı ile Co(II), Fe(II) ve Pd(II) kompleksleri sentezlenmiş ve çeşitli analitik ve spektroskopik yöntemler kullanılarak yapıları aydınlatılmıştır. Yapılan analizler, Schiff bazının bidentat bir ligand olarak azometin azotu ve fenolik oksijen atomu üzerinden metal merkezlerine bağlandığını göstermiştir. Daha sonra tüm bileşiklerin antoksidan aktiviteleri incelenmiştir. Antioksidan aktivitelerin belirlenmesinde; ferrik tiyosiyanat yöntemine dayalı total antioksidan kapasite tayini, Fe³⁺ iyonu indirgeme kapasitesini ölçen FRAP yöntemi, Cu²⁺ iyonu indirgeme esasına dayanan CUPRAC yöntemi, 1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil (DPPH) radikal süpürme aktivitesi ve 2,2'-azinobis(3-etilbenzotiazolin-6-sülfonik asit) (ABTS) radikali giderme yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen sonuçlara göre, tüm bileşiklerin antioksidan aktiviteleri konsantrasyonla birlikte artış göstermiştir. Ancak, bu aktiviteler karşılaştırmalı olarak değerlendirildiğinde, standart antioksidan maddelere kıyasla düşük düzeyde kaldığı gözlemlenmiştir.In recent years, Schiff base ligands have gained interest from researchers due to their diverse structural features and broad physicochemical properties. The synthesis, spectral characterization, and structure-activity relationships of Schiff base transition metal complexes have been extensively studied in numerous investigations. Developing new compounds with potential pharmaceutical applications has become an increasing focus within the scientific community. Medicinal inorganic chemistry is a challenging research field that continues to contribute significantly to understanding and treating difficult diseases by enabling the design and development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic agents. Schiff base ligands, as nitrogen donors, can easily coordinate with transition metals to form metal complexes that serve as valuable resources for drug development through coordination chemistry. Due to their pharmacological effects and ability to form complexes with nearly all transition metals, Schiff base ligands remain an important subject of ongoing research. In this study, Co(II), Fe(II), and Pd(II) complexes with Schiff base ligand were synthesized, and their structures were elucidated using various analytical and spectroscopic methods. The analyses demonstrated that the Schiff base, as a bidentate ligand, binds to metal centers via azomethine nitrogen and phenolic oxygen atoms. The antioxidant activities of all the compounds were then evaluated. To assess antioxidant activity, various methods were used, including the total antioxidant capacity determination based on the ferric thiocyanate method, the FRAP method measuring Fe³⁺ ion reduction capacity, the CUPRAC method based on Cu²⁺ ion reduction, the DPPH radical scavenging activity, and the ABTS radical scavenging method. The results indicated that the antioxidant activities of all compounds increased with concentration. However, when these activities were compared, they remained at a low level relative to standard antioxidant substances
Effects of aerobic exercise in addition to core stabilization exercises on functional capacity, physical performance and fall risk in geriatric individuals with chronic non-specific low back pain
Background Geriatric individuals may frequently develop low back pain after physiological changes. The aim of our study was to compare the effects of core stabilization exercises alone and aerobic exercises in addition to core stabilization exercises on functional capacity, physical performance and fall risk in geriatric individuals with chronic non-specific low back pain (CNLBP). Methods In this randomized controlled study, 30 participants in the core stabilization exercise group (CG) received intervention, and the mean age of this group was 70.43 +/- 4.48 years. The mean age of the 30 participants in the core stabilization + aerobic exercise group (CAG) was determined as 69.60 +/- 4.05 years. Sixty individuals with CNLBP were included in the study and divided into two groups: CG (n = 30) and CAG (n = 30). CG received core stabilization exercises for 8 weeks, while CAG received aerobic exercise using a treadmill in addition to core stabilization exercises for 8 weeks. Functional capacity (six-minute walk test), physical performance (Oswestry Disability Index), fall risk (Biodex Balance System), pain intensity (Visual Analogue Scale), depression status (Beck Depression Inventory) and kinesiophobia level (Tampa Kinesiophobia Scale) were evaluated before and after the treatment programmes. Results Significant improvements were found in all parameters in both groups after the treatment programmes (p 0.05). Conclusions The results of the study showed that both core stabilization exercises alone and core stabilization exercises combined with aerobic exercise led to improvements in patients with CNLBP. However, the group that combined aerobic and core stabilization exercises (CAG) showed greater improvements, particularly in functional capacity, physical performance, fall risk, pain intensity, and depression levels. These findings suggest that core stabilization exercises are beneficial for CNLBP, but adding aerobic exercise may enhance these positive effects.
