    No full text
The increasing prevalence of social media usage among university students has raised significant concerns about its psychological effects, particularly in relation to self-esteem and the development of narcissistic behavior. As students spend more time engaging with social media platforms, behaviors such as seeking validation through "likes" and comments or frequently uploading self-promoting content have become more common. This study aims to determine and analyze the effects of self-esteem on narcissistic behavior in students at Medan Area University. The research design used in this study is survey research. The research sample consisted of 265 students of Medan Area University consisting of various durations of smartphone use. Data collection was carried out through two questionnaires measuring self-esteem and narcissistic behavior. This study was analyzed using simple linear regression. The results of the study showed that self-esteem had a significant positive effect on narcissistic behavior, the greater the narcissistic tendency. Students with low self-esteem were less likely to exhibit narcissistic behavior such as frequently uploading photos of themselves and seeking attention through "likes" and comments

Perennial Candidates dalam Politik Lokal di Sulawesi Barat Indonesia

This paper investigates the phenomenon of perennial candidates—individuals who consistently run for local political office but fail to achieve victory. The focus of this study is Salim S. Mengga within the framework of local politics in West Sulawesi, Indonesia. Employing qualitative research methods, this work adopts an in-depth case study approach. Data collection involves interviews, field observations, and documentation, while data analysis utilizes complex time series techniques. The results indicate that the motivations driving perennial candidates, particularly the Mengga clan, are rooted in political clan egoism, a concept deeply embedded in Sulawesi society. The clan's repeated electoral defeats can be examined through institutional theory, which emphasizes their inability to maintain social capital. From the perspective of power theory, political contests are viewed as battles between clans, where victories are predominantly dependent on familial networks, often overshadowing the role of political parties. System theory suggests that the decline in the clan's cultural and symbolic capital adversely impacts their political power. Additionally, political economic theory attributes their failures to a lack of sufficient economic capital within the clan

Exploring Problem-Based Learning within Physical Education in Indonesia: A Content Analysis

The Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model plays a crucial role in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for 21st-century education. This study aims to analyze the content of field research focusing on the application of the PBL model in physical education (PE) in Indonesia. Although numerous articles have been published on PBL, few have conducted content analyses on this topic. Therefore, this study explores the implementation of PBL in Indonesian physical education using a content analysis approach. The research employed a content analysis design, with the primary data source consisting of articles from SINTA-indexed PE journals. A total of 13 articles published between 2006 and 2023 met the criteria for analysis. The findings highlight significant opportunities for further PBL research in Indonesian PE, particularly using qualitative methods. Notably, there is a lack of studies involving grade 9 or 12 students. Most existing research focuses on learning outcomes, uses a variety of intervention types, and frequently relies on questionnaires and test sheets. Additionally, some quasi-experimental studies were found to use inappropriate data analysis techniques. This review provides critical baseline evidence to guide future research and pedagogical innovation in PE by identifying current gaps and methodological limitations in how PBL is applied and studied in Indonesia

This study aims to explore the emotional and psychological impacts experienced by bullying perpetrators and to analyze the influence of parenting styles on the development of such behavior within the context of Madrasah Aliyah (Islamic Senior High Schools). Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving perpetrators, guidance and counseling (BK) teachers, and school staff. The findings indicate that bullying perpetrators often experience emotional distress, including feelings of guilt, remorse, and behavioral changes such as social withdrawal following disciplinary actions. Contributing factors to these behaviors include unsupportive parenting styles, poor family communication, and social environmental pressures. Notably, several perpetrators demonstrated a willingness to change after undergoing counseling and engaging in personal reflection. This study underscores the importance of a comprehensive rehabilitative approach that goes beyond punitive measures, emphasizing the need for ongoing emotional and psychological support to effectively address bullying behavior

In this study, the influence of friendship support on academic motivation with academic anxiety as a moderator and sense of belonging as a mediator was investigated. A cross-sectional quantitative research design was used, with a convenient sample of 240 undergraduate first-generation students (FGS) from a South African university. Data were collected using an online questionnaire comprising four instruments: The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Psychological Sense of School Membership (PSSM), Anxiety Scale for Undergraduate Students (ASUS) and Academic Motivation Scale (AMS). The simple linear regression analysis results showed that friendship support significantly predicted academic motivation. In addition, the moderation analysis results revealed that academic anxiety did not significantly moderate the relationship between friendship support and sense of belonging. Moreover, the mediation analysis results demonstrated that sense of belonging did not significantly mediate the relationship between friendship support and academic motivation. The findings of the study highlight that FGS should strive to cultivate supportive friendships and enhance feelings of belonging towards their institution to mitigate the adverse effects of academic anxiety and bolster their academic motivation for study success

Multicultural awareness is important for students in the 21st century, and its level needs to be measured using standardized instruments. This study aimed to examine the acceptability of the multicultural awareness instrument developed by Ali (2011) for Junior High School (SMP) students in Sukoharjo, Indonesia. The instrument adaptation process involved five stages with a sample of 308 participants. Acceptability of the instrument was analyzed using the RASCH Model. The research findings present the instrument's ability to measure what is intended to measure, the relationship between respondents and items, and the difficulty level of the items. The results indicate that the multicultural awareness instrument is valid and reliable for application among students. Future researchers are suggested to examine this instrument at the senior high school level and use it as a measure of students' multicultural awareness for experimental research. Moreover, integrating multicultural awareness into the learning process can enhance educational practices

The development of digital technology not only has a major effect on human life, including education, but also causes moral crises such as hoaxes, hate speech, and empathy degradation. This study aims to study Imām Al-Gazālī's perspective on spiritual education as an alternative solution to overcome the moral crisis in the modern era. In addition, this study also creates a plan to implement character education based on spirituality. This type of research is qualitative using a literature study approach. This study collects data by conducting an in-depth analysis of Al-Gazālī's writings and related literature. Such as Al-Gazālī's main works, such as Ihya 'Ulumuddin, Ayyuha al-Walad, and Mizan al-'Amal. The study shows that Al-Gazālī's educational ideas that emphasize the strengthening of morals, purification of the soul (tazkiyatun nafs), and spiritual achievement through reason, heart, soul, and spirit are very relevant to addressing the moral crisis that occurs in the modern era. Primarily, values such as honesty, trustworthiness, patience, gratitude, and self-reflection shape students' characters. Spirituality-based character education can be implemented through curriculum, daily routines, teacher examples, family involvement, and wise use of digital media. This study offers the concept of Al-Gazālī's spirituality-based character education as a solution to the moral crisis of the young generation in the digital era and provides practical guidelines for educational institutions, teachers, and families in forming intelligent, moral, and spiritual individuals

This study analyzes the modern pesantren management model by emphasizing the integration of local wisdom values in institutional governance, especially in pesantren in Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra. Using a qualitative approach that combines a comprehensive literature review and limited field observation, this study found a hybrid management model that integrates contemporary managerial principles with local cultural values such as dalihan na tolu, charismatic leadership of kiai, and the tradition of community mutual cooperation (marsialap ari). The model has been proven to strengthen the character of students, increase social legitimacy, and build institutional resilience in facing the flow of globalization. Although the results are positive, aspects of managerial professionalism, institutional documentation, and technology utilization still need strengthening. These findings enrich the literature on contextual, adaptive, and sustainable pesantren management. Limitations of the study include the narrow geographic scope and the absence of quantitative measurements of model effectiveness; therefore, cross-regional comparative research with mixed methods is recommended to produce a more holistic analysis
