Insider dan Outsider dalam Penerjemahan Al-Qur’an Di Jepang: Interaksi Otoritas Keagamaan dan Wacana Akademik

Islam in Japan has developed as a minority religion through various channels, including migration, missionary efforts (da’wah), and academic engagement. One of the key aspects of this development is the translation of the Qur’an into Japanese. Two main categories of translators have played a significant role: Muslim insiders and non-Muslim outsiders. Outsider translators, such as Kenichi Sakamoto and Toshihiko Izutsu, adopted academic, linguistic, and political approaches in rendering the Qur’an, making their works widely appreciated in scholarly circles for their perceived objectivity and analytical rigor. In contrast, insider translators like Ryoichi Mita and Ko Nakata viewed translation as part of religious experience and da’wah, which led to greater acceptance within the local Muslim community. These differing approaches have shaped public reception: outsider translations are more commonly used in academic discourse, while insider versions are prevalent in religious practice. This study aims to analyze the methodological and ideological differences between these two groups in translating the Qur’an in Japan, and how each approach influences perceptions of Islam in Japanese society. Employing a qualitative literature-based method, the research examines various Qur’anic translations and community responses to them. The findings reveal that outsider translations contribute significantly to the intellectual understanding of Islam, while insider translations play a vital role in preserving the religious identity of Japan’s Muslim minority. Despite their differing orientations, both perspectives are crucial in shaping the image and understanding of Islam within contemporary Japanese society

Being a student in higher education requires each individual to have the sensitivity to adapt and recognize the scope of lectures independently. The presence of several inclusive universities in Indonesia creates a sense of acceptance, especially for individuals with limitations in carrying out activities, especially lecture activities. It is undeniable that students with disabilities experience difficulties and obstacles and a different dynamic process from non-disabled students. The challenges and obstacles experienced by students with disabilities can affect the decrease in learning motivation so that it leads to learning fatigue both due to the lack of equitable distribution of supporting facilities for students with disabilities and the responsibilities and roles that must be carried out by students with disabilities. The purpose of this research is to find out the portrait of academic well-being of students with disabilities in inclusive universities. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive narrative design. The participants of this study were 3 students with disabilities using snowball sampling technique. Data collection conducted by researchers is using semi-structured interview techniques. The results found that the lack of equitable facilities in inclusive universities is one of the reasons students with disabilities still experience obstacles in undergoing lectures. However, this does not prevent the three participants from continuing to undergo lectures because each individual has positive academic well-being and has social support from the surrounding environment

The sample was divided into an experimental group, which received peer counseling guidance intervention, and a control group, which received intervention as usual. The research instruments used included the Cyberbullying Behavior Scale, Peer Counseling Effectiveness Questionnaire, Observation Guide, and Interview. Data analysis was carried out using an independent t-test, first testing the assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variance using Kolmogorov-Smirnov or Shapiro-Wilk and Levene's Test. The study showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups after the intervention, with a substantial decrease in cyberbullying behavior in the experimental group. The results of this study indicate that peer counseling guidance effectively reduces cyberbullying behavior among students. The program successfully raised awareness of the negative impacts of cyberbullying, developed coping strategies, and strengthened empathy and digital ethics among students. Full text link
This study aims to determine the contribution of the intensity of participation in psychoeducational group guidance to the academic emotions of students in Jember Islamic boarding schools. Academic emotions play an important role in determining the quality of students' learning, while psychoeducational group guidance provides space for students to recognize, express, and manage their emotions positively in the context of learning. This study uses a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression design. The population in this study were students who actively participated in group guidance activities in several Islamic boarding schools in Jember, with samples selected purposively. The instruments used were a questionnaire on the intensity of participation and an academic emotion scale that had been tested for validity and reliability. The results of the regression analysis showed that the intensity of participation in psychoeducational group guidance contributed significantly to students' academic emotions (p <0.05), with a contribution of 30% (R² = 0.30). This finding indicates that the more intense the participation of students in group guidance activities, the more positive the academic emotions they have. This study recommends that Islamic boarding schools integrate psychoeducational programs more systematically in student guidance activities

The PKO Poor House was estabilished on 13 January 1923, the PKO Remsi Hospital was established on 15 February 1923, and the PKO Orphanage was inaugurated on 5 October 1931, even though the poor house had actually existed since 1923. Pandangan Al-Qur’an Terhadap Hoaks Persepektif Tafsir Maqāṣidī (Studi Q.S. Al-Ḥujurāt: 6 dan al-Nūr: 15)

The phenomenon of hoax dissemination in the digital era has become a serious challenge with far-reaching impacts on social stability, political dynamics, and religious life among Muslim communities. The Qur’an, as the holy scripture of Islam, offers fundamental principles for responding to information, particularly through verses that emphasize verification and caution, such as Q.S. al-Ḥujurāt [49]:6 and Q.S. al-Nūr [24]:15. This study aims to analyze the content of these two verses using the maqāṣidī tafsir approach as developed by Abdul Mustaqim, in order to uncover the substantial and contextual values of Islamic law. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach based on literature review from primary and secondary authoritative tafsir sources. The findings reveal that these verses encompass core values of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, including: ḥifẓ al-nafs (protection of life), ḥifẓ al-‘aql (protection of intellect), ḥifẓ al-dīn (protection of religion), ḥifẓ al-dawlah (protection of the state), and ḥurriyyah al-mas’ūliyyah (responsible freedom). These values are not only normative but also practical in addressing the challenges of modern disinformation. Thus, the maqāṣidī approach presents a relevant and solution-oriented methodology for shaping ethical media engagement and fostering responsible Islamic digital literacy in contemporary society

    No full text
Pedophiles, individuals who are sexually attracted to children, are regarded as child-molesters. This stigma incites hate and discrimination towards them, even those who have not and committed themselves to not harm children. Thus, understanding and challenging this stigma is important to help them. In this study, we explored the experience of members of Virtuous Pedophiles, an online support group and the preferred identity for pedophiles who are against sexual activity between adults and children. Narrative literature review and thematic analyses were conducted on Gary Gibson’s book titled Virtuous Pedophiles. Virtuous Pedophiles, unfortunately, encounter problems in their daily life, yet they choose to acknowledge and share their sexual orientation with loved ones. They also develop various strategies to protect themselves and children from any form of molestation. They build boundaries in interacting with children, avoid situations involving children, and use fantasy in the form of pornography and masturbation to satisfy their sexual needs without harming children. They hope the stigma on pedophiles is reduced and one day, they can live comfortably by receiving help and support from others and mental health practitioners. Despite acknowledging their sexual orientation, they are still experiencing difficulties in fully accepting themselves due to the stigmatization experienced from others and concerns about their own future. This also hinders them in reaching out for help from professional services to manage their overall wellbeing. As mental health practitioners, we are encouraged to focus more on their psychological distress and then devise strategies that might help improve their daily functioning
