Commentary for Addressing the Multiple Behavioural Risk Factors: A Call for Integrated Adolescent Health Interventions
Adolescents worldwide are facing an alarming convergence of four lifestyle-related behavioural risks – physical inactivity, sedentary behaviour, poor sleep, and unhealthy diet – that threaten their current and future wellbeing. These behaviours frequently co-occur and are strongly associated with a range of adverse outcomes, including physical and mental health issues and compromised academic performance. Emerging evidence suggests these risks are particularly concerning in Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia.
In Indonesia, home to over 46 million adolescents (United Nations Population Fund [UNPF], 2024), national surveys highlight the rising prevalence trend. A significant proportion of adolescents do not meet recommended physical activity levels, nearly half engage in prolonged sedentary behaviour, many report sleep difficulties, and dietary quality remains poor (Global School-based Health Survey [GSHS], 2023; Kementerian Kesehatan Republik Indonesia [Kemenkes], 2018). These risks may be further compounded by systemic gaps in health promotion infrastructure and unequal access to services, which are frequently observed in low-resource settings across developing countries (Feigin et al., 2024).
Despite the interconnected nature of these behaviours, most health interventions remain siloed, targeting single behaviours in isolation (Ahmed et al., 2021; Pushpa et al., 2024; Rizal et al., 2019). This fragmented approach may overlook the synergistic consequence of behavioural risks and misses critical opportunities for more holistic and efficient solutions. There is an urgent need for integrated interventions – characterised by addressing multiple behavioural risk factors simultaneously or sequentially – that are grounded in adolescents' lived experiences and tailored to the constraints of resource-limited environments.
Considering this potential, it is encouraged to shift from isolated action to unified strategies, multi behaviour interventions. A focus on the big four behavioural risk factors is not only timely – it is essential to safeguard the health, development, and future potential of Indonesia’s young people and beyond

The Influence of TikTok Media Exposure on Body Image and Self-Esteem in Adolescents
TikTok is among the most widely used social media platforms by adolescents, featuring unique elements such as algorithm-driven short videos and appearance enhancing filters that differentiate it from other platforms. These characteristics render TikTok particularly influential in shaping adolescents’ perceptions of body image and self-esteem. This study aims to examine the impact of TikTok media exposure on body image and self-esteem among adolescents aged 15 to 18 years. A quantitative method was employed using multivariate linear regression analysis. The sample comprised 172 active TikTok users from Taruna Gajah Mada High School, Metro, Indonesia, with data collected through an online questionnaire. The instruments used included the Media and Technology Usage and Attitudes Scale (MTUAS), the Body Image Scale, and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The results revealed that TikTok exposure significantly affected body image (F = 98.697; p < 0.001) and self-esteem (F = 110.177; p < 0.001), with a combined explained variance of 31.3%. Exposure to idealized body-related content fosters social comparison, adversely impacting adolescents’ self-image and confidence. This study underscores the importance of digital literacy and psychosocial support in encouraging healthy social media use among adolescents. It concludes that TikTok exposure plays a substantial role in shaping how adolescents perceive their bodies and assess their self-worth, highlighting the media’s influence on self-concept and psychological well-being
Tafsir al-Ṭabarī dan Riwayat Problematik: Pendekatan Intertekstual dalam Tradisi Naratif menurut McAuliffe
This article examines the story of the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ marriage to Sayyidah Zainab bint Jahsh as narrated in QS. al-Aḥzāb: 37–38, employing a narrative-critical approach to Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī, with a primary focus on problematic ḥadīths (al-dakhīl) that have shaped interpretations of the text. One of the contested reports suggests that the Prophet ﷺ fell in love with Zainab after seeing her unveiled—an account that lacks a sound chain of transmission and directly contradicts the doctrinal principle of prophetic infallibility (ma‘ṣūmiyyah). Unlike Isrā’īliyyāt, which stem from Judeo-Christian traditions, these problematic reports originate from within early Islamic narratives and were often transmitted uncritically in classical exegesis. Using Jane Dammen McAuliffe’s framework—emphasizing intertextuality and narrative framing—this study argues that classical tafsīr is not ideologically neutral, but shaped by selective citation and narrative construction that can obscure the theological intent of the Qur’anic text. Accordingly, tafsīr is understood not merely as an exegetical explanation of scripture, but as a discursive space where meaning and authority are continually negotiated. The article concludes that a critical re-reading of the Zainab episode is necessary to cleanse it of unsound reports and to reaffirm its Qur’anic purpose: the abrogation of pre-Islamic adoption practices (tabannī) and the establishment of divine law above inherited social norms

Strategi Efektif Simplifikasi Nahwu dalam Percakapan Arab pada Kelas Intensif Daurah Ramadhan
This study aims to explore effective strategies for simplifying Arabic grammar (nahwu) to enhance maharah kalam (speaking skills) among students participating in the intensive Daurah Ramadhan program at Pondok Pesantren Darullughah Wadda’wah (Dalwa). Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this research involved 60 takhassus students from diverse pesantren backgrounds who had prior knowledge of nahwu and sharaf but still struggled with active Arabic conversation. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with both teachers and students, and documentation of teaching materials and student evaluations. The data analysis employed thematic analysis, involving data reduction, categorization of themes, and interpretation of findings. To ensure data validity, triangulation methods were used, including triangulation of sources (comparing data from interviews and observations) and triangulation of methods (combining observation, interviews, and documentation). The findings reveal that simplified grammar instruction—such as recognizing the implicit meaning of "is" in jumlah ismiyyah, applying patterns with "أن", and using "قبل–بعد" structures—significantly boosted students' confidence and fluency in speaking. Moreover, the integration of mnemonic techniques, peer learning, and the jigsaw method strengthened both comprehension and communicative competence in a collaborative and contextual learning environment. This study confirms that grammar simplification is not merely a technical adjustment but a pedagogical strategy that effectively supports communicative-based Arabic language learning
Smartphone Addiction and Phubbing Behavior: Risks of Technology for Social Media Users
The rapid development of technology, especially smartphones, has brought significant changes to the daily lives of students, both positively and negatively. One of the emerging negative impacts is the phenomenon of phubbing, which refers to the act of ignoring others in favor of engaging with a smartphone. The purpose of this study is to describe the contribution of smartphone addiction on phubbing behavior in students. The sample of this study was 225 grade VII students. Data on smartphone addiction and phubbing behavior were collected through two questionnaires, including the smartphone addiction instrument which amounted of 16 items and the phubbing behavior instrument which amounted of 15 items. Data were analyzed using SPSS software with linear regression techniques. The findings in this study are the significant contribution given by smartphone addiction to phubbing behavior, seen from the contribution given by smartphone addiction of 66% to phubbing behavior. In addition, the regression coefficient is positive, so it can be stated that an increase in smartphone addiction causes an increase in phubbing behavior
Countering Radicalism through Inclusive Islamic Education: A Study of Raḥmatan lil ‘Ālamīn Values among University Students
This study examines the role of inclusive Islamic education in countering radicalism among university students, focusing on their understanding of the Raḥmatan lil ‘Ālamīn (IRA) values. The IRA concept promotes compassion, tolerance, and dialogue. These values serve as a potential ideological counterweight to extremism. Using a quantitative survey method, data from 369 students were analysed through Pearson's correlation to examine the relationship between inclusive Islamic values and radical tendencies. The results revealed that the majority of students had internalised IRA values, demonstrating high levels of positive attitudes across all four domains. Pearson's correlation analysis revealed a significant negative correlation (p < 0.01) between IRA values and radical inclinations. This suggests that students who embrace moderate Islamic ethics are less vulnerable to extremist ideologies. Notably, tolerance and democratic values exhibited the strongest inverse relationships with fanatical and radical attitudes. These findings emphasise the importance of incorporating inclusive Islamic values into higher education curricula as a preventive measure against ideological radicalisation. By fostering environments that emphasise peace, pluralism, and civic responsibility, educational institutions can play a key role in promoting moderation and resilience against extremism among young people

Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Academic Literacy among University Students in Indonesia: A Case Study
The rapid adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in higher education has transformed learning practices, prompting concerns about their influence on students’ critical thinking, originality, and independent engagement with academic materials. This study explores the perceived impact of AI on academic literacy among Indonesian university students, with particular attention to critical thinking, originality, and independent learning. Employing a qualitative approach, the study captures students' experiences and perspectives, revealing that while AI tools such as ChatGPT and Grammarly are perceived to enhance learning efficiency, they may also diminish deeper engagement with academic content and critical thinking processes. Many participants reported a tendency to rely on AI-generated summaries, which they associated with reduced independent analysis and creativity. Nevertheless, the findings suggest that when AI tools are integrated with thoughtful pedagogical strategies, they can support the development of academic literacy within ethical boundaries. The study underscores the importance of implementing AI literacy programs and ethical guidelines to foster responsible and reflective use of AI in academic contexts
