Characteristics of cement-based thermo-concretes containing capric acid impregnated hemp for thermal energy storage and sound isolation in buildings
Enhancing the lightweight structure, insulation, and thermal storage capacity of concrete is critical for energy efficiency and environmental impact reduction. The innovative application of using waste hemp shives as a phase change material (PCM) carrier in cementitious composites was performed in this study to enhance sustainable construction practices. Although previous studies have incorporated lightweight aggregates and PCMs, challenges such as PCM leakage and the reliance on synthetic materials have limited their effectiveness. This study utilized waste hemp shives as a natural porous support for capric acid (CA) PCM in diatomite-based lightweight concrete, offering an eco-friendly and leakage-resistant solution with improved thermal and acoustic performance. No leakage was observed in shape-stabilized hemp/CA composites with 45 wt% CA. The melting and solidification temperatures were determined as 30.6 degrees C and 28.7 degrees C, with corresponding enthalpy values of 80.9 and 80.8 J/g, respectively. Concrete composites containing hemp/PCM reduced indoor temperatures by up to 4 degrees C compared to control samples. Moreover, composites with 30 % hemp/PCM content achieved sound absorption coefficients up to 0.6 and transmission loss values exceeding 24 dB, demonstrating their dual functionality for thermal energy conservation and acoustic comfort in building applications
Özel Gereksinimli Bireyler ile Çalışma Kaygısı Ölçeği (ÖBÇKÖ) Geçerlik ve Güvenirlik Çalışması
Gerçekleştirilen bu araştırmada özel gereksinimli bireyler ile çalışma kaygısını ölçecek olan yeni bir ölçme aracı oluşturulmuştur. Çalışmada nicel araştırma yöntemlerinden faydalanılmıştır. Ölçek geliştirme basamaklarının uygulandığı bu araştırma çerçevesinde ilk olarak alanyazın incelemesi gerçekleştirilmiştir. Alanyazın incelenmesinin ardından kaygı durumlarını ve kaygı çeşitlerini ifade eden yurt içi ve yurt dışında gerçekleştirilmiş olan araştırmalar detaylı bir şekilde incelenmiştir. Birinci aşamada gerçekleştirilen açımlayıcı faktör analizi sonuçlarına göre belirsizlik, endişe ve gerginlik faktörlerinden oluşan 3 faktör ve 16 maddelik bir yapı ortaya çıkmıştır. Araştırmanın ikinci aşamasında ise yapısı ortaya konulmuş olan ölçeğin doğruluğuna kanıt sağlamak adına doğrulayıcı faktör analizi uygulanmıştır. Sonuçlar, ölçeğin iş ortamlarında kaygının bu üç yönünü ölçmek için güvenirlir bir araç olduğunu doğrulamıştır. Ortaya çıkan “Özel Gereksinimli Bireyler ile Çalışma Kaygısı Ölçeği” bireylerin belirsizlik, endişe ve gerginlik gibi kaygı durumlarını değerlendirmede etkin bir ölçme aracı olarak kullanılabilecektir. Alanyazından elde edilen bilgiler ışığında bulunan değerlerin koşulları sağladığı görülmektedir
Single wave solutions of the fractional Landau-Ginzburg-Higgs equation in space-time with accuracy via the beta derivative and mEDAM approach
The nonlinear wave behavior in the tropical and mid-latitude troposphere has been simulated using the space-time fractional Landau-Ginzburg-Higgs model. These waves are the consequence of interactions between equatorial and mid-latitude waves, fluid flow in dynamic systems, weak scattering, and extended linkages. The mEDAM method has been used to obtain new and extended closed-form solitary wave solutions of the previously published nonlinear fractional partial differential equation via the beta derivative. A wave transformation converts the fractional-order equation into an ordinary differential equation. Several soliton, single, kink, double, triple, anti-kink, and other soliton types are examples of known conventional wave shapes. The answers are displayed using the latest Python code, which enhances the usage of 2D and 3D plotlines, as well as contour plotlines, to emphasise the tangible utility of the solutions. Protein-based Preservative nanotube: Viability of yogurt bacteria in different environments
Probiotics are living organisms that are beneficial for human health and are defined as microorganisms responsible for the fermentation of foods. In order for microorganisms to be probiotic, they must be resistant to gastrointestinal system and adverse environmental conditions. In this study, the viability stability of yogurt starter bacteria (Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus (Ab1) and Streptococcus thermophilus (As2) at different temperatures was investigated in vitro by using Whey protein isolate (WPI) and salep glucomannan (SG) by electrospinning method by taking advantage of the development of technology; while trying to protect them in low pH, bile salt and simulated gastric fluid environments. Morphological characterization analyses (SEM, TEM, TGA and FTIR) of the formed nanoencapsulation material were performed and it was revealed that it was in the form of Nanotube. Thus, the first protein-based nanotube structure is formed. It was shown that the nanotube encapsulation can be a commercial yogurt culture by maintaining significant viability of yogurt bacteria both in the gastrointestinal system and at room temperature
One-step high-efficiency recovery of high-purity MoO3 from spent hydrodesulfurization catalyst by water-vapor enhanced sublimation process
Spent hydrodesulfurization (HDS) catalysts were considered as a vital secondary resource for precious metals like Mo. The current pyrometallurgy and hydrometallurgy usually exhibits the characteristic of remarkable high energy consumption and high secondary pollutions. This study proposes an innovative technique to recycling MoO3 from spent HDS catalyst by sublimation process at high temperature, which has notable advantages of zero wastewater-generation and zero chemical reagent consumption. Notably, MoO3 recovery efficiency was improved remarkably with the introduction of water-vapor. About 99.33 % of MoO3 was recovered by heating spent HDS catalyst at 1100 degrees C for 2.5 h in water-vapor atmosphere with partial pressure of 101.33 kPa. The yielded MoO3 was tested with the purity of 99.94 % and exhibited the appearance of thin strips. Furthermore, the sublimation kinetic of MoO3 in air was adhered to a desorption model, while agreed with a non-desorption model in water-vapor atmosphere. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations revealed that-OH obtained by the dissociation of H2O molecules preferably combined with MoO3 and formed the volatile MoO3-OH, which was responsible for enhancing MoO3 sublimation efficiency significantly in water-vapor atmosphere. Economic analysis suggested that the direct cost of this method was 345 $/t, accounting for around 50 % compared to current roasting-leaching-purification methods. BURHAN FELEK VE REFİ' CEVAD ULUNAY'IN TÜRK MÜZİĞİ HAKKINDAKİ GÖRÜŞLERİNİN KARŞILAŞTIRILMASI
One of the main topics of studies on the sociology of music in Turkey is the debate on Turkish music. This subject was frequently discussed in the press of the Republican period and the writers of the period were involved in these debates on Turkish music. Among these writers, Burhan Felek (1889-1982) and Refi' Cevad Ulunay (1890-1968) have an important place. Born in the late 19th century and educated in the culture of Istanbul, Burhan Felek and Refi' Cevad Ulunay became acquainted with Turkish music at a very early age and participated in the musical assemblies of the period. Burhan Felek and Refi' Cevad Ulunay, who started journalism in the Constitutional Monarchy period, worked as columnists in the Republican period press for many years and expressed their opinions on various issues through the press. One of the subjects Felek and Ulunay addressed was Turkish music. This study aims to introduce and compare the opinions of Burhan Felek and Refi' Cevad Ulunay on Turkish music and to make a contribution to the literature on Turkish music debates. Inline with this aim, Burhan Felek's and Refi' Cevad Ulunay's writings on Turkish music have been accessed by researching newspapers, and the articles obtained have been evaluated and interpreted comparatively by making sense of them in the context of Turkish music debates. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
Instant hydrogen release from ethylenediamine bisborane by highly efficacious Rh catalysts via hydrolysis
This current study reports preparation, characterization, and first-time catalytic employment of rhodium nanoparticles (2.6 nm) stabilized by polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) in hydrolysis of ethylenediamine bisborane (EDAB) to release hydrogen gas needed for fuel cells. Rhodium nanoparticles stabilized by PVP are characterized by advanced analytical techniques like fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). They are identified as the most effective catalyst up to date for hydrogen gas evolution from EDAB hydrolysis with the highest turnover frequency (TOF) value of 1928.6 min- 1. They also provide 4821 total turnovers in the same hydrolysis reaction. Their energy (Ea), enthalpy (Delta H#), and entropy (Delta S#) of activation in EDAB hydrolysis are determined to be 65.5 kJmol-1, 63.1 kJmol-1, and -49.3 Jmol-1K-1.Research Fund of Van Yuzuncu Yil University [FBA-2020-9261]This study is partially supported by the Research Fund of Van Yuzuncu Yil University (Project Number: FBA-2020-9261)
Investigation of the effect of GCP number and distribution on photogrammetric product accuracy in UAV photogrammetry
Recently, photogrammetric products produced using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are frequently preferred for disaster management, geological, and meteorological studies, urban studies and military purposes. Obtaining products with UAV photogrammetry provides a significant advantage over ground-based methods in terms of speed and cost. At the same time, the accuracy of the products produced is of particular importance. In this study, the effects of the number of Ground Control Points (GCPs) and GCP network design on accuracy were investigated. In this direction, 12 GCPs with homogeneous distribution in the study area were established and their locations were determined by GNSS measurements. Then, scenarios with different number of GCPs and different network designs were created, and the accuracy of these points were evaluated. As a result, it has been concluded that 5 GCPs homogeneously distributed in the field is sufficient for the products at high accuracy (? 10 cm) required in geomatics applications, increasing the number of the GCPs will not benefit the accuracy of the project and this process is disadvantageous in terms of increasing the cost along with the speed
Perceptions of traumatic birth in Turkish films and television series
This study examines the impact of media depictions of childbirth on viewers' perceptions, particularly regarding fear and anxiety caused by traumatic birth scenes in Turkish TV series and films on YouTube. In December 2022, 240 childbirth-related videos were identified using keywords Birth videos, Birth scenes, and Birth footage. After applying specific criteria, 80 Turkish-language videos were analyzed through quantitative content analysis using SPSS 25.0. Key findings reveal that 98.8% of depicted births were vaginal, with 41.3% in hospitals and 60.0% being preterm. Sudden pain and panic were prominent, with 32.5% of scenes inducing fear, and 63.8% describing pain as unbearable. Themes included maternal/neonatal death fears, spousal support, and privacy. Such portrayals influence reproductive health perceptions, potentially increasing cesarean rates. Addressing inaccurate representations can help promote positive childbirth perceptions. Collaboration between media creators and healthcare professionals is essential for improving maternal and societal outcomes. (Afr J Reprod Health 2025; 29 [4]: 159-166)
Adaptation of Artificial Intelligence Attitude Scale (AIAS-4) into Turkish: a validity and reliability study
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into all areas of our lives has been creating substantial changes. There certainly is an ever-growing need to assess the way public attitudes towards AI have taken shape. This study aims to adapt the Artificial Intelligence Attitude Scale (AIAS-4) (Grassini, 2023) into Turkish, where there are no measures that can be used in different contexts and by different organizations to assess the overall attitude towards AI and test its validity and reliability. The scale adaptation was conducted in two phases. The study was carried out with the participation of 422 undergraduate students during the 2023-2024 academic year. To verify the construct validity of the scale, exploratory factor analysis was conducted with 221 undergraduate students. With another group of 201 undergraduate students, confirmatory factor analysis, test-retest reliability and measurement invariance tests were computed. As in the original scale, results from exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses justified the single-factor structure of the scale with four items explaining 63.03% of the total variance, and item loadings were in the range of 0.70-0.89. The model fit values were in a good fit range (CFI: 0.998, TLI: 0.993, RMSEA: 0.048). Also, the model was strictly invariant between genders. The scale demonstrated good internal consistency in two studies, with Cronbach's alpha of 0.86 and 0.86; and McDonald's omega of 0.87 and 0.86. The results indicated that all items had discriminative power and therefore, the Turkish version of the scale proves to be valid and reliable and thus could be used by researchers in the Turkish context.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK)Open access funding provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK)
