Parental perspectives on table tennis as an inclusive physical activity for children with autism: a qualitative means-end chain analysis

    No full text
This study explored why parents prefer table tennis as a physical activity for their children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) using a qualitative approach based on means-end chain theory and the laddering technique. We collected data from 22 parents whose children with ASD were aged 12 to 16 years and were participating in structured physical activity programs in Ankara. Findings suggested that table tennis is favoured for some attributes such as accessibility, low-cost, and risk-free. Additionally, parents reported some consequences such as improvements in social interaction, motor skills, and regulation of stereotypic behaviours, and values such as happiness and motivation. The hierarchical value map illustrated pathways linking such as attributes (e.g. two-player) to consequences (e.g. motor skills) and values (e.g. happiness). These results highlighted the potential of table tennis in therapeutic and school-based physical education programs for children with ASD. However, in the study, numerous limitations included such as a small sample size and reliance on parental reports, which may not fully reflect children's experiences. Future research should examine long-term effects and incorporate direct observations. This study may contribute to the growing literature on inclusive physical activity, providing practical insights for educators, therapists, and policymakers to enhance ASD-friendly sports programs

DSBAV-Net: Depthwise Separable Bottleneck Attention V-Shaped Network with Hybrid Convolution for Left Atrium Segmentation

    No full text
Accurate and precise segmentation of the left atrium (LA) is crucial in the early diagnosis and treatment of atrial fibrillation (AF), which is the most common heart rhythm disease in cases. The size of fibrotic tissue in patients with AF is based on manual examination of images obtained from the gadolinium-enhanced cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique. However, manual examination of the acquired images is time-consuming and has many difficulties, such as LA thickness between observers and resolution according to MR devices. To overcome the challenges of manual segmentation of images obtained from MRI devices, end-to-end, fully automated deep learning-based segmentation architectures have become extremely important today. In this study, an encoder-decoder-based V-shaped deep learning architecture is proposed for precise segmentation of LA. In the proposed architecture, standard convolution and depthwise separable convolution are used together. Thus, sparsely connected blocks with fewer parameters and deeply separable convolutions learn the feature representations better, increasing the robustness of the model. In addition, the bottleneck attention module has been added to each encoder layer, allowing the network to learn which features to focus on and which features to suppress in images by attention mapping channel and spatially. The proposed architecture obtained 0.915 dice and 0.844 Jaccard scores in the STACOM 2018 challenge dataset. The obtained results draw attention to the robustness of the model.Bartin UniversityNo Statement Availabl

Learning styles have been studied since the 1960’s, indicating a diverse methodology in acquiring knowledge. Each individual's approach varies and this preference is associated with the way information is acquired, organized, and interpreted. Teacher education is essential for societal advancement, and there have been global studies emphasizing the importance of high-quality teacher education. These studies advocate for the continual professional development of teachers and their openness to technological innovations. Given the growing significance of technology in education, it's imperative that teachers are knowledgeable in this area, staying abreast of and implementing the latest advancements. This is crucial for meeting the educational needs of the future, achieving the goals of our education system, and creating innovative educational products. To deliver quality education, teachers should continue their professional development and learn and apply teaching methods suitable for diverse student groups, thus bringing forth the concept of e learning. The study in question provides readers with insight into how teachers learn in digital environments and manage the process. It suggests that as a result, education policies can be improved, personalized learning methods for teachers can be created, e-learning tools can be developed, and teachers can improve their pedagogic activities to support educational success. Encouraging professional development can offer new perspectives for research and practice and contribute to the development of better decision-making strategies. Reviews of research indicate a lack of direct studies on these two factors among teachers. Studies based on these factors can not only support educators' personal and professional development but can also improve the quality of learning and teaching processes. The results of such research could provide guidance for innovative practices in education and contribute to shaping long term educational strategies. E-learning is a method that uses technology to provide education anytime and anywhere, includes asynchronous and synchronous learning models, allows students to learn at their own pace, and makes education more engaging. The aim of this method is to enhance the quality of education and support success in educational endeavors. This study examines teachers' e-learning styles and the relationship of these styles with their self-regulatory learning capabilities. E-learning has become popular by advancing technology and offering the possibility to continue existing education without the constraints of time or location. The study aims to reveal teachers' e-learning styles and their levels of self-regulatory learning, investigating the relationship between the two

Çalışmanın yöntemsel kısmında Çok Kriterleri Karar Verme (ÇKKV) yaklaşımlarından Entropi ve MARCOS (Measurement of Alternatives and Ranking according to Compromise Solution) yöntemleri birlikte kullanılmıştır. This thesis aims to evaluate the corporate sustainability performance of firms operating in the renewable energy sector through an objective and systematic approach. In this context, the sustainability performance of AYDEM Renewable Energy Inc., a company listed on Borsa Istanbul, was analyzed for the period between 2019 and 2023. The study addressed corporate sustainability in three dimensions: economic, environmental, and social. Numerous indicators related to these dimensions were used in the assessment. Methodologically, two Multi-Criteria Decision-Making (MCDM) methods were integrated: Entropy and MARCOS (Measurement of Alternatives and Ranking according to Compromise Solution). First, the Entropy method was applied to determine the objective weights of the evaluation criteria. These weights were then used in the MARCOS method to rank the sustainability performance of each year. The analysis revealed that the sustainability performance of AYDEM varied over the years, with 2022 being the year with the highest overall performance. This result indicates that improvements in environmental indicators and economic stability played a significant role. In contrast, 2020 was identified as the lowest-performing year due to the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic across all dimensions. This study demonstrated that the integrated use of Entropy and MARCOS methods can serve as an effective decision-support tool in sustainability assessments. Furthermore, the applicability of this methodological framework to other firms in the energy sector enhances its generalizability and practical relevance

    No full text
This study investigated the effects of replacing conventional limestone aggregate with basalt, barite, marble, and pumice on the engineering properties and durability of concrete. The aggregates were used as either fine aggregate replacements or as replacements for both fine and coarse aggregates. The concrete specimens produced were subjected to a comprehensive testing program, including tests for unit weight, compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), water absorption, and apparent porosity. To evaluate the performance under extreme conditions, specimens were exposed to high temperatures of 600 degrees C and 800 degrees C, with both air and water cooling, and to 300 freeze-thaw cycles. The residual properties, including strength, UPV, and mass loss, were analyzed. The results showed a strong correlation between aggregate type and concrete properties. Basalt aggregates consistently produced the highest compressive and splitting tensile strengths, while pumice aggregate resulted in the lowest. Pumice-based concretes, however, showed superior durability against freeze-thaw cycles, with the lowest mass loss and highest durability factor. Barite aggregate yielded the highest unit weight, and all specimens exposed to high temperatures experienced a strength reduction, with basalt concretes retaining the highest residual strength. In conclusion, the use of alternative aggregates significantly influences concrete performance. While basalt provides superior mechanical properties, pumice offers unique benefits in freeze-thaw durability, highlighting its potential as a functional alternative in specific applications
