Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu published his poetry book titled Yaradana Mektuplar in 1941. The book takes its title from the poems at the beginning. These poems, titled "Birinci Mektup," "İkinci Mektup," "Üçüncü Mektup," "Dördüncü Mektup," and "Beşinci Mektup," address concepts such as creation, life, death, and existence in a manner that converses with God. The poem “Birinci Mektup” which is the subject of this study, is influenced by the imagery of folk poetry. Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu often stated in his writings that he wanted to draw on the essence of folk art. In his poem “Birinci Mektup” he primarily emphasized the vastness and permanence of the universe. He then compared the temporality of human life with the permanence of the universe. Eyüboğlu's concepts in his poetry are reminiscent of the imagery of devriye, a type of poetry in religious-mystical Turkish literature. Devriye poems view life as a journey between birth and death. The purpose of the journey is to achieve maturity and reach God. The philosophical background of this journey, as addressed in devriyes, is formed by sûfi thought. In sûfi thought, man understands his journey as coming from God and returning to God. Those also reference the cyclical nature of human life and time. This study takes Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu's approach to folk art as a starting point. It aims to evaluate the poem "Birinci Mektup/First Letter" in the context of the concepts of death, life, and creation and to analyze the influences of religious-sûfi Turkish poetry in treating these concepts

Redefining positive driver behaviors: Development of the Multidimensional Positive Driver Behavior Questionnaire (M - PDBQ) and examining it in relation to driving and safety outcomes

    No full text
Research on positive driver behaviors has been relatively scarce compared to studies on risky driving behaviors. While previous literature has often narrowly defined positive driver behaviors as politeness and prosocial behaviors, this study argues for a broader scope, including safety and eco-friendly tendencies. To explore this expanded scope and its connection to driving and safety, both qualitative and quantitative methods were employed. Study 1 aimed to investigate the multidimensional nature of positive driver behaviors. To achieve this, sixteen semi-structured interviews were conducted to develop the Multidimensional Positive Driver Behavior Questionnaire (M - PDBQ). In the subsequent study, the psychometric properties of the M - PDBQ and its relationship with driving-related variables (e.g., risky driver behaviors and aggressive driving), and road safety outcomes (e.g., traffic tickets, accidents) were examined with 628 drivers. Exploratory Factor Analysis identified three key dimensions: smooth and proactive mobility, environmentally sustainable behaviors, and risk communication, highlighting the multidimensional nature of positive driver behaviors. Hierarchical regression analyses suggested that positive driver behaviors have the potential to enhance road safety by mitigating risky and aggressive driving behaviors such as violations and anger expression. This research advances the understanding of positive driver behaviors by providing a comprehensive conceptualization, developing a new questionnaire to measure it, and investigating its relationship with driving and road safety

Digital coaches: an alternative to expert coaches for men's fitness goals

    No full text
This study compares the impact of training programs developed by an AI-supported application and those designed by personal trainers on specific health-related physical fitness parameters. Male individuals with similar health conditions and fitness goals were randomly assigned to two groups: one that utilized personalized exercise programs generated by OpenAI's GPT-4 model (n=10; age=21.7 years; height=174.45 cm) and another that engaged in training with a personal trainer. The first group (n=10) was trained using an AI-supported application (body weight=77.16 kg), while the second group (n=10) underwent training with a personal trainer (body weight=70.60 kg). Training programsThe training programmes were generated by inputting the subjects' information and commands into the OpenAI GPT-4 model. The personal trainers were provided with the personal information of the other group in order to plan their training sessions. The training programmes for both groups were designed to enhance upper extremity muscle strength and hypertrophy, with sessions lasting 90 minutes, three times a week for 12 weeks. Significant statistical changes (p 0.05). It was therefore concluded that strength and hypertrophy training under the supervision of a personal trainer might be more efficient than individually conducted training supported by artificial intelligence. However, further research with larger sample sizes is needed to establish a definitive conclusion.

    No full text
This study was conducted to evaluate the high-temperature protection performance of new hard coating systems. Woka 7202 (Cr3C2-NiCr) and Diamalloy 2002 (WC-NiCrFeBSiC) powders were coated onto 316L stainless steel substrates using the atmospheric plasma spraying (APS) method and subjected to isothermal oxidation (5-100 h) and hot corrosion (55% V2O5 + 45% Na2SO4, 1-5 h) tests. Although the coatings exhibited a laminar microstructure and some pores, cracks, and oxide-containing regions, they did not show any flaking or structural integrity deformations during the tests. Microstructural changes, oxide layer morphology, and the phases formed were examined in detail. The findings demonstrate that these coating systems not only provide chemical and structural stability against existing high-temperature environments, but also meet the requirements of next-generation thermal protection needs. In this regard, the study provides directly applicable information for the coating design and performance optimization for turbine blades, energy production equipment, and similar industrial components exposed to high-temperature oxidation and hot corrosion.Sakarya UniversityThis investigation was financially supported by the Sakarya University

Inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) enzymes are of prime importance for treating Alzheimer's disease (AD). Apart from many organic scaffolds, pyridine-based compounds have previously been reported as potential alpha-glucosidase inhibitors. The current study reports a series of pyridine-based synthetic molecules for their acetylcholinesterase AChE and butyrylcholinesterase BChE inhibitory potential assessed via in vitro, kinetics, and in silico studies. For this purpose, 2-amino-6-ethoxy-4-arylpyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile analogs 1-23 were synthesized by using a two-step reaction scheme. In the first step, different aryl aldehydes were treated with malononitrile to afford the 2-benzylidenemalononitrile in the presence of catalyst ammonium acetate. In the next step, 2-benzylidenemalononitrile intermediates were reacted again with malononitrile, catalyzed by potassium hydroxide, to synthesize a range of functionalized pyridine scaffolds in good yields. Compounds were subjected to in vitro screening against AChE and BChE enzymes. Several derivatives, including 2, 3, 11, 14-16, 19, 20, and 22, showed many folds of increased inhibitory potential and binding affinity in the ranges of Ki = 1.62 +/- 0.13 nM to 15.84 +/- 0.10 nM for AChE and Ki = 1.35 +/- 0.31 nM to 13.52 +/- 0.61 nM for BChE, as compared to the standard tacrine Ki = 53.31 +/- 11.32 nM for AChE, and Ki = 58.16 +/- 7.24 nM for BChE. Further, molecular docking studies deduced key interactions between the ligands (compounds) and the active pocket of enzymes. The current research study has identified several potential AChE and BChE inhibitors that may serve as lead candidates after targeted advanced research for exploring anti-Alzheimer agents.Pakistan Academy of Science [111]The authors also acknowledge the financial support of the Pakistan Academy of Science, 3 -Constitution Avenue, G-5/2, Islamabad-44000, Pakistan, under PAS Project No 111

The internationalisation of Turkish higher education: a critical analysis of policy

    No full text
This study examines the key rationales behind the Turkish government's current internationalisation of higher education (IHE) agenda. It further explores strategies and goals in connection with T & uuml;rkiye's regional and global ambitions, highlighting how this approach diverges from mainstream IHE narratives. Drawing on critical discourse analysis and framed by the concepts of neo-Ottomanism, econo-Islamism, and pan-Turkism, the study analyses policy documents, media sources, and academic literature. The analysis shows that internationalisation is used strategically to position the country as a regional power and to strengthen ties with regions such as Central Asia, the Balkans, the Middle East, and Africa. Tools such as scholarship programmes and overseas educational institutions support geopolitical objectives and soft power narratives. This distinctive approach offers an alternative lens to dominant IHE discourses and contributes to more critical perspectives on internationalisation. The study concludes that a more balanced integration of diplomatic and educational goals could enhance internationalisation efforts

PurposeThe purpose is to understand how green information systems (GIS) and big data analytics (BDA) infrastructure flexibility contribute to sustainable practices through green technological turbulence (GTT) and how they help energy companies achieve comprehensive sustainability outcomes.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from 600 participants via an online survey from energy companies listed on Borsa Istanbul. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is used with Jamovi and Excel to analyze the data. In the research, six mediation hypotheses and one direct effect hypothesis are examined for BDA infrastructure flexibility, GIS, GTT and sustainable performance (SuP). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses and reliability and validity assessments were conducted in the measurement model.FindingsThe results confirm the seven hypotheses tested. In particular, GTT, GIS and BDA infrastructure flexibility have significant mediation effects on environmental, economic and social performance. Furthermore, BDA infrastructure flexibility has a positive effect on GIS. These findings highlight the critical role of managing technological turbulence to achieve sustainability goals in the energy sector.Research limitations/implicationsThe research is limited to energy companies listed on Borsa Istanbul, which may limit the generalizability of the findings to other sectors or geographic regions.Practical implicationsThe findings provide valuable insights into using GIS and BDA infrastructure flexibility to improve sustainability outcomes, especially for energy companies investing in renewable energy. Managers can use these technologies to overcome green technological turbulence and thereby improve the overall performance of their companies in terms of environmental, economic and social objectives.Social implicationsThe research extends the resource-based view (RBV) and dynamic capabilities theory (DCT) by showing how GIS and BDA infrastructure flexibility can be used as strategic resources and dynamic capabilities, respectively, to achieve sustainable outcomes through the mediation effect of technological turbulence. The importance of GCT as a critical mediator in sustainability-related technological adoption is emphasized.Originality/valueThe research contributes to the literature by empirically validating the mediation effect of GTT in the context of GIS, BDA infrastructure flexibility and SuP in the energy sector, with a particular focus on renewable energy investments. It offers a unique integration of the RBV and DCT to explain how firms can navigate technological uncertainty to enhance sustainable performance

Evidence-Based Nursing Practices for Nausea and Vomiting in Pediatric Oncology

    No full text
In pediatric oncology patients, nausea and vomiting secondary to chemotherapy and radiotherapy can lead to fluid electrolyte imbalance, increased risk of infection, delayed recovery, and reduced childhood activities. For pediatric oncology patients, severe nausea and vomiting can also lead to an increased need for parenteral nutrition support and place an additional burden on care. Despite the existence of guidelines published by The Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer, the European Society of Medical Oncology, and the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario, the assessment of nausea and the lack of a standardized scoring system remain a challenge. Therefore, it is important to implement innovative and age-appropriate interventions to prevent and manage chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. In addition to pharmacological interventions such as serotonin receptor antagonists, anticholinergics, antiemetics, aromatherapy, relaxation techniques, acupressure, acupuncture, massage, storytelling, hypnosis, yoga, and video games, child distraction methods, music, painting, nonpharmacological interventions are used in the treatment of nausea and vomiting that may develop secondary to chemotherapy. Accurate and timely assessment of symptoms in pediatric oncology patients can lead to more effective treatment and management of nausea and vomiting and have a positive impact on overall treatment processes. Pediatric nurses can provide symptom recognition of children through standardized assessment tools and provide education and counseling to children and their parents regarding the identification of signs and symptoms of nausea and vomiting. In this section, we will discuss evidence-based nursing interventions for nausea and vomiting in pediatric oncology patients. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved

FOTOVOLTAİK TERMAL SİSTEMLERDE KULLANILAN OPTİK FİLTRE SICAKLIĞININ ELEKTRİKSEL PERFORMANSA ETKİSİNİN DENEYSEL İNCELENMESİ

    No full text
In this study, a photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) system integrated with an optical filter was developed by going beyond the conventional photovoltaic (PV) panel architecture. The electrical and thermal performance of the system, dependent on water temperature, was experimentally analyzed in comparison with a conventional PV system tested simultaneously. The panel was placed inside a specially sealed chamber, and deionized water within the chamber was circulated in a closed loop using a peristaltic pump to control the surface temperature of the panel. Within the scope of the experimental study, the electrical efficiencies of the PV and PVT systems were calculated, and the amount of thermal energy obtained through the circulating fluid in the PVT system was determined. The results showed that the optical filter-integrated PVT system provided higher electrical efficiency than the PV system at low and moderate fluid inlet temperatures, reaching up to 77% total efficiency with an average thermal efficiency of 72.1%. However, when the fluid inlet temperature approached 40?°C, the cooling effect of the PVT system diminished, leading to an increase in PV cell temperature and a sudden drop in current, voltage, and overall performance. When the inlet temperature was reduced to 23?°C, a rapid recovery in electrical parameters was observed. Additionally, while the PV system benefited more from convective cooling due to its direct exposure to the environment, the performance of the PVT system depended primarily on the fluid temperature. The study demonstrates that optical filter-integrated PVT systems are effective in improving total energy efficiency; however, this effectiveness is directly dependent on controlling the fluid inlet temperature.
