Impact of global capabilities on performance in international logistics companies

    No full text
PurposeIn order to make a difference in a globally competitive environment, companies should analyze their competitors, which is one of the factors around them, well, do research, observe the environment and know how to adapt. For this purpose, the research examines the effects of competitive intensity and marketing and sales capabilities, together with the global capabilities of logistics companies operating internationally (third-party logistics companies (3PL)), which are examined.Design/methodology/approachTo establish and test the model, a sample of 504 participants working at senior levels in internationally operating logistics companies (third-party logistics companies (3PL)) with their headquarters in Istanbul was taken and a scale consisting of a total of 32 statements was presented to them. Analyses were performed using Jamovi and SmartPLS 3.3.5. This program was used because, in addition to estimating path models with latent variables, it also calculated standard results evaluation criteria. First, the results of factor analysis are given. After these analyses were completed, the hypotheses were tested.FindingsThis research is supported by hypotheses as a result of the analysis that global capabilities are an important factor for logistics companies at the international level, and that the competitive intensity also affects the performance outputs and that marketing and sales capabilities also have an impact.Research limitations/implicationsSince data are collected from logistics companies operating globally, it is necessary to pay attention when the analysis results are compared with different sectors. Because the intensity of competition may vary depending on the sector and market in which companies operate. At the same time, the data were collected from authorized white-collar employees working at a senior level in logistics companies. Because, in terms of the level of being able to answer the questions about the variables examined in the research model, data were collected from high-level officials.Practical implicationsIt is getting harder and harder to compete on a global scale by going beyond national borders. The results of the analysis show how important the global capabilities of logistics companies are, especially the increasing importance of logistics activities for countries. For this reason, logistics companies operating on an international scale need to attach importance to the competitive intensity and develop their marketing and sales capabilities.Originality/valueThe research is original in that it examines the global capabilities of logistics companies in their international activities and the effects of competition intensity. In addition, it is important for companies in this sector to examine the effects of marketing and sales capabilities so that logistics companies can reach more customers in their international activities and be more effective in the market compared to their competitors

This study investigated the changes in color parameters of HDF, MDF, and particleboards resulting from hot water steam application. Hot water steam was applied homogeneously to the surfaces of the selected board types, and the resulting color changes were measured with a colorimeter. The results indicate that hot water steam causes more pronounced color changes, particularly on MDF and HDF. Significant increases were observed in redness (a*), luminance (L*), and yellowness (b*), with significant changes in yellowness and redness, particularly on MDF. Additionally, a significant decrease in color tone angle (ho) and an increase in color saturation (C*) were observed. Following hot water steam application, particleboard, MDF, and HDF boards achieved ?E* values of 1.42, 8.01, and 9.25, respectively. MDF exhibited a moderate change, HDF board exhibited the highest color change, and particleboard exhibited the lowest. These findings demonstrate that hot water steam application alters the aesthetic properties of materials such as MDF and HDF and that this change can be managed in a controlled manner. It was determined that the hot water steam application used in this study can be used to modify surface properties without the use of any chemicals and also represents an environmentally friendly method.

Recovering hydrated cement from recycled concrete for improving technological properties of engineering bricks

    No full text
In Europe, around 500 million tons of construction and demolition waste (C&DW) are generated annually, a third of which is concrete. Recycling mainly focuses on coarse aggregates, but 20-30 % v/v of the output includes fine particles and hydrated cement powder (HCP). As HCP can be partially reactivated at 450-650 degrees C, its reuse in clinker production is under study, though high energy demands hinder its viability. This research investigates an alternative: substituting clay with up to 30 % HCP in fired clay bricks, leveraging the high-temperature process already involved. Bricks were fired at three temperatures and characterised in terms of mechanical, mineralogical, chemical, and thermal behaviour. A life cycle impact assessment evaluated environmental feasibility. Results show that HCP enhances brick properties, especially at higher firing temperatures. However, despite improvements such as reduced thermal conductivity, global warming potential and water consumption impacts are higher, posing a trade-off between material performance and environmental cost.Ministerio de Educacion (MINEDUC) [FRO 2395]The investigation is financed by the Chilean National Commission on Research and Development with grant number 1211135. In this study, nearly a hundred concepts, symbols and practices related to spiritualism, from traditional religions and ancient teachings to some new religious trends with influences, understandings seen within the scope of "New Age" as an umbrella concept, and a number of practices used for different non-religious purposes, are discussed. Yoga, Meditation, Reiki, Feng Shui, Tantra, Bioenergy, Enneagram, Astrology, Numerology, Family Alignment, Theta Healing, Manifesting, Qigong, to name just a few. Although the origins of some of them can be traced back to ancient times, these understandings and practices, which have become popular all over the world and simultaneously in Türkiye after the second half of the twentieth century for various reasons, spread rapidly after the 1980s and have become even more popular today. Sometimes these are directly motivated by spiritual emptiness and the seeking of meaning, while other times they are motivated by goals independent of religion and spirituality, such as physical and mental health, psychological well-being, personal development and so on. These seeking, which lead people to "give room to the spiritual" in their lives, can also be a set of completely personalized practices that can be called "individual spiritual paths". In this study, these spiritual beliefs and practices are presented objectively from the perspective of the History of Religions, and their religious background, if any, is given. The topic is limited to Türkiye and the post-2000 period; Islamic Sufi practices that have been going on in these regions for centuries are excluded from the scope; and some psychology and medical techniques are also included due to their common use. Although there are a number of studies that deal with the subject from various angles, the lack of a scientific study that gives the opportunity to see the concepts, symbols and practices related to spiritualism within in Türkiye makes this research important

Investigating the Relationship Between Primary School Students' Reading Attitudes and Their Parents' Reading Attitudes

    No full text
The reading attitudes of primary school-aged children serve as foundational elements in the lifelong learning journey, with parental influence playing a pivotal role in this process. As children’s first role models, parents have the capacity to shape their children’s attitudes towards reading through their own reading behaviors and attitudes. This study aims to explore the relationship between the reading attitudes of 3rd and 4th-grade students and those of their parents, assessing these attitudes across various contextual factors. The study sample includes 3rd and 4th-grade students from multiple schools located in a province within Turkey’s Western Black Sea Region, along with their parents. Utilizing a correlational research design, the study employed the “Attitudes Towards Reading Scale” and “Attitudes Towards Reading Scale with Garfield Visuals” as data collection instruments. The findings indicate that female students exhibited a more positive reading attitude than male students, with no significant differences noted regarding grade level or monthly book-reading frequency. Additionally, the study observed that parents’ reading attitude scores increased with higher levels of parental education and greater book-reading frequency. Correlation analysis showed no significant relationship between the children’s reading attitudes and those of their parents, although a moderate positive relationship was found between the reading attitudes of mothers and fathers

Synthesis, characterization, and determination of the catalytic roles of tungsten (VI) oxide-supported Pd (0) nanoparticles in the reduction of nitroaromatic pollutants

    No full text
One of the most important approaches for industrial and environmental catalytic applications is to develop a promising, simple, and effective method. Toxic organic pollutants in wastewater, such as nitroaromatic contaminants, have become a global issue, threatening aquatic life and obstructing essential elements required for the survival of living organisms. In this study, a palladium pre-catalyst supported on tungsten (VI) oxide (Pd2+/ WO3) was prepared with a 2 % metal loading using a simple and conventional wet impregnation method. The efficiency of this pre-catalyst was investigated for the reduction of nitroaromatic pollutants (2-nitrophenol (2 NP), 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), and 2,4-dinitrophenol (2,4-DNP)) into their corresponding aminophenol compounds in the presence of an excess amount of NaBH4 as the reducing agent. Characterization techniques such as ICPOES, XRD, SEM, SEM/EDX, TEM, and XPS analysis revealed that Pd (0) nanoparticles were well-dispersed on the WO3 support, with an average particle size of 2.2 +/- 0.1 nm. The catalytic activities of Pd (0) nanoparticles for the reduction of nitroaromatic pollutants to aminophenols in the presence of NaBH4 were determined in terms of initial TOF, calculated as 127.2 min(-1) for 2-NP, 109.4 min(-1) for 4-NP, and 353.1 min(-1) for 2,4-DNP. The results demonstrated that the Pd/WO3 nanocatalyst exhibited excellent catalytic efficiency and stability (>85 %) even after five catalytic cycles in the reduction of nitroaromatic pollutants. Considering both the simple preparation process and the effective catalytic reduction of nitroaromatic pollutants, this study presents a great opportunity for the practical application of the Pd/WO3 nanocatalyst in wastewater treatment.YYU-BAP (Van Yuezuencue Yimath;l University, Tuerkiye) [FBA-2024-10921]The authors would like to thank to YYU-BAP (FBA-2024-10921) for the financial support (Van Yuzuncu Y & imath;l University, Turkiye)

    No full text
Schiff bases containing sulfonyl units are important compounds because of their potential biological properties in the therapeutical field. In this study, three novel ligands (L1, L2, and L3) containing the sulfonyl groups, a derivative of Schiff base, were synthesized, and their molecular structures were characterized by FT-IR, 1H-NMR, 13C NMR, and elemental analysis results. The antiproliferative activities of these Schiff base ligands were evaluated against human colon cancer (HT-29 and Caco-2) and mouse fibroblast (L929) cells by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) method. In addition, the antioxidant activities of these ligands were determined. Their potential activities against Peroxiredoxin 2 enzyme were assessed with molecular docking studies. When the spectral evaluation of the novel Schiff Base compounds (L1-3), the characteristic peaks and bands of target compounds were observed from 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and FT-IR results. The elemental analysis results supported the structures of the characterized compounds. All compounds' DPPH radical scavenging effect was similar to rutin at the highest applied concentration. According to molecular docking results, it was determined that hydrogen bond and steric interactions played a role in the interaction of the compounds and Peroxiredoxin 2 protein. It was observed that there was a parallelism between molecular docking results and antioxidant activity results. As a result of in silico and in vitro studies, it was found that L2 compound was the most effective compound with -60.083 MolDock Score and -61.079 total energy data. It was observed that hydrogen bonding and steric interactions played a role in the interaction of the compounds with the protein. Each compound showed cytotoxic effects against human colon cancer cells with increasing doses but not against healthy cells. These results support the hope that these compounds can be used for therapeutic purposes.Bartin University [2021-FEN-B-002]This study was supported by Bartin University, Scientific Research Coordination Unit (Project No. 2021-FEN-B-002)

35th Edition of the Great Lakes Symposium on VLSI 2025, GLSVLSI 2025 -- New Orleans; LA; Jung Hotel New Orleans -- 212711ACM SIGDA; SanDisk; Texas InstrumentsFully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE) enables computations on encrypted data, proving itself to be an essential building block for privacy-preserving applications. However, it involves computationally demanding operations such as polynomial multiplication, with the Number Theoretic Transform (NTT) being the state-of-the-art solution to perform it. Considering that most FHE schemes operate over the negacyclic ring of polynomials, we introduce a novel formulation of the hierarchical Four-Step NTT approach for the negacyclic ring, eliminating the need for pre- and post-processing steps found in the existing methods. To accelerate NTT operations, the Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) devices offer flexible and powerful computing platforms. We propose an FPGA-based, high-speed, parametric and fully pipelined architecture that implements the improved Seven-Step NTT algorithm, which builds upon the four-step algorithm. Our design supports a wide range of parameters, including ring sizes up to 216 and modulus sizes up to 64-bit. We focus on achieving configurable throughput, as constrained by the bandwidth of High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM), which is an additional in-package memory common in high-end FGPA devices such as Alveo U280. We aim to maximize throughput through an IO parametric design on the Alveo U280 FPGA. The implementation results demonstrate that the average latency of our design for batch NTT operation is 8.32?s for the ring size 216 and 64-bit width; a speed-up of 7.96 × compared to the current state-of-the-art designs. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved
