No full textHardcover, 17x24Seit dem Mittelalter gehörte die Jagd in großen Teilen Europas zum privilegierten Zeitvertreib der Herrschenden und Mächtigen. In Deutschland fand das adelige Jagdvorrecht auf fremdem Grund und Boden erst in der Revolution von 1848/49 sein formales Ende. Das Interesse der Geschichtswissenschaft an der Jagd gilt deshalb auch überwiegend den Kunstformen und Attributen der höfischen Jagd, ihren Akteuren, Methoden, Waffen und Geräten, der Entwicklung der Weidgerechtigkeit und Weidmannssprache, der Jagdsignale oder des Jagdhundewesens.
Der vorliegende Band dagegen behandelt an Beispielen vor allem aus Niedersachsen die Frage, ob und wenn ja unter welchen Voraussetzungen auch Bauern und Angehörige unterbäuerlicher oder nicht bäuerlicher Schichten (jagdbaren) Wildtieren nachstellten. Die Jagdgesetze schlossen dies an sich meist aus. War es denkbar, dass sich neben der adeligen Jagdpraxis eine nicht adelige Jagdkultur erhalten hatte?
Der Untersuchungszeitraum umfasst die Frühe Neuzeit und das 19. Jahrhundert mit Vor- und Nachlaufzeiten. Berührt werden auch Aspekte der jagdrechtlichen Entwicklung, Funktionen der Jagd als Ressource der Herrschenden, Vogelfang und Wilderei als ‚Jagd des kleinen Mannes‘, Tierquälspiele und Jagdkritik sowie die anthropologischen Grundlagen des Jagens.Since the Middle Ages, hunting has been a privileged pastime for rulers and the powerful in large parts of Europe. In Germany, the aristocratic right to hunt on other people's land did not formally end until the revolution of 1848/49. The interest of historians in hunting is therefore mainly focused on the art forms and attributes of courtly hunting, its protagonists, methods, weapons and equipment, the development of hunting fairness (Weidgerechtigkeit) and hunter's language (Weidmannssprache), hunting signals and hunting dogs.
This volume, on the other hand, deals with the question of whether and, if so, under what conditions peasants and members of the lower or non-peasant classes also pursued (huntable) wild animals, using examples mainly from Lower Saxony. The hunting laws generally ruled this out. Was it conceivable that a non-aristocratic hunting culture had survived alongside aristocratic hunting practices?
The period under investigation covers the early modern period and the 19th century, with pre- and post-times. Aspects of the development of hunting law, the functions of hunting as a resource for the ruling classes, bird-trapping and poaching as ʻhunting for the little manʼ, animal torture games and hunting criticism as well as the anthropological foundations of hunting are also touched upon

It is central to the effective exercise of totalitarian power, whether political or religious, and allows the discourses that take place in a society to be largely obstructed, directed and promoted, through modes of action that range from subtle pressure to draw the boundaries of what can be said, to extreme forms such as the burning of books or punitive measures against creators, from banning them from professional activity to imprisonment or murder. In the history of Portugal and other Portuguese-speaking countries, marked by periods of absolute monarchy or dictatorship and the constant influence of the Catholic Church, there are many examples of censorship and its manipulation. It's not surprising that the first victims of censorship are usually cultural products, since they are catalysts for social change in many aspects (politics, social awareness, gender and sexuality), including the language(s) they use. Dieses Repositorium ist das Ergebnis eines von der Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft und dem Schweizerischen Nationalfonds geförderten Projekts. Es ist frei zugänglich und langzeitarchiviert und enthält neben Auszügen aus Sekundärquellen viele erstmals veröffentlichte und editorisch bearbeitete archivalische Dokumente. Die Zeugnisse belegen, dass Karl vom Stein zum Altenstein und das von ihm geleitete preußische Kultusministerium ein besonderes Interesse hatten, Wissenschaftler und Künstler zu fördern, die bereit waren, in Goethes Werk „Zur Farbenlehre“ enthaltene Gedanken zu verbreiten und weiterzuentwickeln. Die Leittexte im vorliegenden Band ordnen die Zeugnisse zu exemplarischen Vorgängen. Sie ergeben zusammen nicht nur ein detailliertes Bild dieser besonderen Förderung und der Arbeitsweise des Ministeriums, sondern auch des Einflusses der Maßnahmen auf die Biografien der Akteure und der Reaktionen Goethes und seines Kreises. Die Verzeichnisse der Quellen und der Literatur verbinden die vorliegende Publikation mit dem Repositorium bzw. der Literaturdatenbank der Webanwendung.As a contribution to the research into the history of the reception of Goethe’s work On the Theory of Colors, published in 1810, and of the Prussian cultural policy in the age of Restoration, an extensive collection of historical documents has been compiled. This repository is the result of a project funded by the German Research Foundation and the Swiss National Fund. It is freely accessible and archived for the long term and contains extracts from secondary sources as well as many archival documents that have been published and edited for the first time. The documents prove that Karl vom Stein zum Altenstein and the Prussian Ministry of Culture, which he headed, had a special interest in promoting scientists and artists who intended to disseminate and further develop the ideas contained in Goethe's work On the Theory of Colors. The guiding texts assembled in this volume organize the documents along select perspectives and thus provide a detailed picture of the support efforts as well as the ministry’s working methods, of the impact of those activities on some actors’ biographies, and of the reactions of Goethe and his circle. The appendix presents three extensive documents, and the indices of sources and literature link this publication to the repository and the literature database of the web presentation

die kleine Universitätsstadt Göttingen im Jahr 1904 zur Wiege der modernen
Strömungsmechanik und Aerodynamik. Prandtl begründete hier nicht nur mit
der Aerodynamischen Versuchsanstalt (AVA) und dem Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut
für Strömungsforschung zwei Forschungseinrichtungen von Weltrang, sondern
auch mit der so genannten „Göttinger Schule“ eine außergewöhnlich fruchtbare
wissenschaftliche Denkweise, die sich durch eine eigentümliche Balance von
physikalischer Intuition und mathematischer Exaktheit auszeichnet. Die wissen-
schaftliche Methode Prandtls und seiner Schüler hat ihren Niederschlag in zahl-
reichen Dissertationen, Monographien und Lehrbüchern gefunden, die mittlerweile
als klassisch gelten und damit zum Grundbestand der Strömungslehre gehören.
Doch viele dieser Publikationen sind seit langer Zeit nicht mehr verfügbar. Die
Reihe „Göttinger Klassiker der Strömungsmechanik“ stellt deshalb ausgewählte
Publikationen, die der Göttinger Schule um Ludwig Prandtl zuzurechnen sind oder
in einem gewissen historischen Bezug dazu stehen, wieder zur Verfügung.
Der vorliegende Band stellt insofern eine Besonderheit dar, als er keinen
wissenschaftlichen, sondern einen wenig bekannten wissenschaftshistorischen
Gegenstand behandelt, der jedoch einen engen Bezug zur Denkweise und den
Leitmotiven der Göttinger Schule um Ludwig Prandtl aufweist. Man hatte dort
stets dezidiert die Ansicht vertreten, dass Forschungseinrichtungen einen hohen
Grad an Autonomie besitzen sollten und nicht durch Vorgaben aus Politik oder
Wirtschaft zu sehr in ihrer Freiheit eingeschränkt werden dürften. Zudem genoss
die kollegiale Zusammenarbeit mit den Aerodynamikern anderer europäischer
Länder wie Frankreich, England und den Niederlanden in Göttingen von Anfang an
einen außergewöhnlich hohen Stellenwert.
Im zweiten Weltkrieg sollten diese hehren Auffassungen in völlig unerwarteter
Weise auf eine ernsthafte Probe gestellt werden, als der Göttinger Aerodynami-
schen Versuchsanstalt AVA die Aufsicht über mehrere flugwissenschaftliche
Forschungsinstitute in den besetzten Ländern Westeuropas übertragen wurde,
um sie für die deutschen Kriegsanstrengungen nutzbar zu machen. Eine dieser
Einrichtungen war das niederländische Luftfahrtlaboratorium NLL in Amsterdam,
das nun unter „Göttinger Fittiche“ kam. Dieses Buch erzählt die spannende
Geschichte davon, wie die unversehens von Kollegen zu allmächtigen Besatzern
gewordenen deutschen Wissenschaftler und die zur Zusammenarbeit gezwungenen
niederländischen Forscher in dieser extremen Situation mit ihrer Verantwortung
umgegangen sind.With the appointment of Ludwig Prandtl as Professor of Applied Mechanics in 1904, the small university town of Göttingen became the cradle of modern fluid mechanics and aerodynamics. Prandtl not only founded two world-class research institutions here, the Aerodynamische Versuchsanstalt (AVA) and the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Institut für Strömungsforschung, but also the so-called "Göttingen School", an exceptionally fruitful scientific way of thinking characterised by a particular balance of physical intuition and mathematical exactitude. The scientific method of Prandtl and his students has found expression in numerous dissertations, monographs and textbooks, which are now regarded as classics and thus form part of the basic stock of fluid mechanics. However, many of these publications have not been available for a long time. The series "Göttinger Klassiker der Strömungsmechanik" therefore makes selected publications available again that can be attributed to the Göttingen school around Ludwig Prandtl or have a certain historical connection to it.
The present volume is a speciality in that it does not deal with a scientific subject, but with a little-known subject from the history of science, which nevertheless has a close connection to the way of thinking and the leitmotifs of the Göttingen School around Ludwig Prandtl. The view was always firmly held that research institutions should have a high degree of autonomy and should not be overly restricted in their freedom by political or economic guidelines. In addition, collegial collaboration with aerodynamicists from other European countries such as France, England and the Netherlands was given exceptionally high priority in Göttingen from the very beginning. During the Second World War, these noble views were to be put to a serious test in a completely unexpected way when the Aerodynamische Versuchsanstalt (AVA) was entrusted with the supervision of several aeronautical research institutes in the occupied countries of Western Europe in order to utilise them for the German war effort. One of these institutions was the Nationaal Luchtvaartlaboratorium (NLL) in Amsterdam, which now came under "Göttingen's wing". This book tells the exciting story of how the German scientists, who had suddenly been transformed from colleagues into all-powerful occupiers, and the Dutch researchers, who were forced to co-operate, dealt with their responsibilities in this extreme situation

Für den Untersuchungszeitraum sind verschiedene Entwicklungen und Ereignisse überliefert, die wir heutzutage als Krisen oder Katastrophen bezeichnen würden. Im Gegensatz zur modernen Medienlandschaft stellte die römische Bildkunst jedoch nur in Einzelfällen Krisen und Katastrophen direkt dar. Vielmehr ergeben sich durch Veränderungen und Kontinuität bei der inhaltlichen und formalen Gestaltung der Münzen, Porträts und Reliefs der römischen Kaiser potenzielle Reaktionen auf die Bedrohungen und Unglücke, welcher sich die principes stellen mussten. Der Fokus der Arbeit liegt auf den bildlichen Darstellungen der Münzen, Porträts und Reliefs. Obwohl das Material nur eine kleine Auswahl der kaiserzeitlichen Bildwelt darstellt, erlaubt es spannende Einblicke in die offizielle Bewertung von Unglücken.This thesis deals with the question to which extent crises and catastrophes affected the public visual art of the Roman emperors from Vespasian to Commodus. Various developments and events that we would describe today as crises or catastrophes have survived for the period under investigation. In contrast to the modern media landscape, however, Roman pictorial art only directly depicted crises and catastrophes in isolated cases. Rather, changes and continuity in the content and formal design of the coins, portraits and reliefs of the Roman emperors reveal potential reactions to the threats and misfortunes that the principes had to face. The focus of the work is on the pictorial representations of the coins, portraits and reliefs. Although the material only represents a small selection of imperial imagery, it provides fascinating insights into the official assessment of disasters
