No full textSoftcover, 17x24Ambivalenzen und widersprüchliche Erwartungen, nationalistische und postnationale Standpunkte sind Teil eines Dänischwerdens, Dänischseins und Dänischbleibens (oder auch Nichtbleibens) im Landesteil Schleswig. Anhand von qualitativen Methoden und eines konstruktivistischen Ansatzes untersucht Levke Bittlinger Fragen des Minderheitsseins und der nationalen Zugehörigkeitsgefühle unter Akteur*innen und Institutionen der dänischen Minderheit. Die Studie beleuchtet Hintergründe für die Wahl einer dänischen (Teil-)Zugehörigkeit durch beispielsweise den Besuch einer dänischen Schule oder das Engagement im dänischen Kulturverein von der Nachkriegszeit bis heute. Es wird darüber hinaus die Bedeutung von Symbolen, Praxen und historischen Mythen für die Minderheitszugehörigkeit unter die Lupe genommen und analysiert, wie „Neudän*innen“ in Integrationskursen mit den an sie gestellten Erwartungen umgehen.Pointing at ambivalences and inconsistencies, contradictory expectations, nationalistic and pragmatic points of view, this study shows parts of the becoming, being and remaining (or not) Danish in Germany. Using qualitative methods and a constructivist approach, Levke Bittlinger examines questions of minority- and nationhood with regard to actors and the main institutions within the Danish minority in the Southern Schleswig region. The research ranges from the backgrounds of people becoming Danish in the postwar time to today’s parents sending their children to Danish institutions for social and material matters. The study reaches from the analysis of the role of the Danish school system, the cultural association including their expectations on new Danish people concerning their integration into the minority to the importance of symbols, practices and historical myths for constructing a minority belonging.Hvilke modstridende forventninger og (post)nationale indstillinger og sindelag kan observeres, når nogle indbyggere i Sydslesvig i Tyskland vælger at blive, være eller forblive danske? Med en konstruktivistisk synsvinkel og med hjælp af kvalitative metoder undersøger Levke Bittlinger spørgsmål om minoriteter og tilhørsforhold blandt aktører og institutioner i det danske mindretal. Bogen belyser motiver for valget af en dansk tilknytning og undersøger, i hvilke kontekster det danske tilhørsforhold etableres, herunder dansk (og ikke tysk) skolegang og engagement i danske foreninger i mindretallet fra efterkrigstiden til i dag. Studiet handler også om, hvilken betydning symboler og konstruerede historiske fortællinger har for den måde, der dannes et tilhørsforhold til det danske mindretal, og hvordan „nydanskere“ håndterer de forventninger, som de konfronteres med under integrationskurser

Deutschen Juristentags mit der Frage „Sentencing Guidelines vs. freies tatrichterliches Ermessen – Brauchen wir ein neues Strafzumessungsrecht?“ befasst. Trotz des kritischen Gutachtens von Johannes Kaspar und begleitender literarischer Stellungnahmen sind jedoch grundlegende Reformvorschläge auf Ablehnung gestoßen. Der rechtsvergleichende Blick hat sich auf die U.S.-amerikanischen Strafzumessungsrichtlinien des Bundesstrafrechts beschränkt. Der vorliegende Band möchte einerseits ein differenzierteres Bild des angloamerikanischen Strafzumessungsrechts durch drei Länderberichte (England/Wales, USA und Kanada) mit Kommentaren aus deutscher Sicht zeichnen und andererseits die deutsche Perspektive im angloamerikanischen Rechtskreis bekannt(er) machen. Um eine möglichst weite Verbreitung sicherzustellen, haben wir uns für eine zweisprachige Open-Access-Veröffentlichung entschieden.
In September 2018 the criminal law section of the 72nd Deutscher Juristentag (DJT, “German Assembly of Jurists”) debated the question “Sentencing Guidelines vs. Free Judicial Discretion – Is German Sentencing Law in Need of Reform?” Despite the expert opinion provided by Johannes Kaspar and the accompanying scholarly commentaries, ensuing proposals for fundamental reform met with rejection. The comparative perspective was limited to the US Federal sentencing guidelines. The intention of this volume is therefore, on the one hand, to draw a more nuanced picture of Anglo-American sentencing law focusing on three legal systems (England/Wales, USA and Canada) accompanied by commentaries from a German perspective; on the other hand, we want to make the German perspective (better) known within the Anglo-American legal world by reproducing important DJT documents in English language. Alternative Proteinquellen in soziotechnischer Perspektive
No full textSoftcover, 17x24Die Agrar- und Ernährungsbranche bietet ein großes Potenzial für die gesellschaftliche Transformation zugunsten einer höheren Nachhaltigkeit. Insbesondere von dem Verzicht auf den Konsum von Lebensmitteln tierischen Ursprungs wird eine deutliche Verringerung der ernährungsbedingten Treibhausgasemissionen erwartet. Dennoch weist die Entwicklung der Konsumgewohnheiten eher auf einen gegenläufigen Trend hin: Auf globaler Ebene steigt die Nachfrage nach tierischen Produkten und damit einhergehend die Nachfrage nach Futtermittelkomponenten – allen voran Rohprotein, das bislang vorwiegend durch die Sojaproduktion in Nord- und Südamerika bereitgestellt wird, die jedoch unter wirtschaftlichen, gesellschaftlichen und ökologischen Aspekten kritisch zu hinterfragen ist. Um den weiterhin steigenden Proteinbedarf für die Ernährung der Weltbevölkerung zu sichern, ist die Ermittlung und Analyse geeigneter alternativer Proteinquellen für die Human- und Tierernährung von zentraler Bedeutung. Vor diesem Hintergrund beschäftigte sich das von 2014 bis 2019 durch das Niedersächsische Ministerium für Wissenschaft und Kultur im Rahmen der Maßnahme „Wissenschaft für nachhaltige Entwicklung“ aus Mitteln des Niedersächsischen Vorab geförderte Verbundprojekt „Sustainability Transitions in der Lebensmittelproduktion: Alternative Proteinquellen in soziotechnischer Perspektive“ mit der Potenzialabschätzung
von Algen und Insekten als alternativen Proteinquellen für die europäische Agrar- und Ernährungsbranche. Der Ansatz des Verbundprojektes fokussiert im Sinne der „sustainability transition“ auf den Wandel soziotechnischer Systeme hin zu einer höheren Nachhaltigkeit von Produktion und Konsum. Dabei wird die soziotechnische Transition in Richtung einer Erhöhung der Nachhaltigkeit hinsichtlich mehrerer Dimensionen – technologisch, materiell, wirtschaftlich und soziokulturell – untersucht. Der vorliegende Sammelband gibt einen Überblick über die zentralen Ergebnisse.The agricultural and food sector offers great potential for social transformation toward greater sustainability. In particular, the renunciation of the consumption of food of animal origin is expected to significantly reduce diet-related greenhouse gas emissions. Nevertheless, the development of consumer habits tends to point to an opposite trend: On a global level, the demand for animal products is increasing and with it the demand for feed components - above all raw protein, which has so far been provided mainly by soybean production in North and South America, but which must be critically examined from an economic, social and ecological perspective. In order to secure the continuously increasing protein demand for the nutrition of the world population, the identification and analysis of suitable alternative protein sources for human and animal nutrition is of central importance. Against this background, the collaborative project "Sustainability Transitions in Food Production: Alternative Protein Sources in a Socio-Technical Perspective", which was funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture from 2014 to 2019 within the framework of the "Science for Sustainable Development" measure, dealt with the assessment of the potential of algae and insects as alternative protein sources for the European agricultural and food industry. The approach of the joint project focuses on the change of sociotechnical systems towards a higher sustainability of production and consumption in the sense of "sustainability transition". The socio-technical transition towards an increase in sustainability is being investigated in terms of several dimensions - technological, material, economic and socio-cultural. Insgesamt zeigen die im Anschluss an die 2019 stattgefundene Abschlusstagung des Göttinger Forschungsprojekts „Nachhaltigkeit als Argument“ entstandenen Beiträge die Vielfältigkeit der Herangehensweisen und die Potentiale einer Beschäftigung mit Ressourcen in historischer Perspektive auf.The use of resources is the precondition of all life. This is foremost true for natural resources such as water, food and fuels but also for immaterial resources like information and efficient social networks. In this book authors from different disciplines try to understand the dealing with resources in a historical perspective. Thereby they analyse topics such as the supply of food in classical Greece, the forest management in the Austrian Alps provinces of the nineteenth century, libraries as stores of knowledge and the present landscape as resource for a better understanding of the past.

The goal of this study was to characterize growth, biomass production, anatomical effects and the regulation of genes involved in wood formation of poplars in response to nitrate or ammonium feeding. Most Koreans in the diaspora define themselves through their ancestry, their language and their religion. Language serves as a strong argument for defining one’s own identity within a multi ethnic society. Ethnic Koreans in the diaspora tend to cultivate their own very special dialects. However, since the fall of the Soviet Union and the opening of China, most ethnic Koreans in Central Asia, Manchuria and Siberia came again into close contact with Koreans especially from South Korea. There is a certain desire amongst many ethnic Koreans to learn the standard Korean language instead of sticking to their own dialects. Die Briefe Liselottes von der Pfalz im Kontext des höfischen Kommunikationsideals
No full textSoftcover, 17x24Die Einschätzung von Sprache und Stil der 6.000 überlieferten Briefe von Liselotte von der Pfalz ist bis heute gespalten: sie hätten etwas von Stallgeruch an sich, seien von literarischen Anknüpfungen durchdrungene écriture intime oder durch höfische sprezzatura geprägt. Die an manchen Stellen besonders offene Rede Liselottes über die Körperlichkeit, die verschiedenste Facetten des Umgangs mit dem Körper darstellt, wurde oft klischeehaft als eine deutsche Natürlichkeit gedeutet, die sich französischer Künstlichkeit widersetzt. In dieser Studie wird der Frage nachgegangen, ob die körperbezogenen Aussagen in den Briefen Liselottes und die dabei benutzte Sprache Ähnlichkeiten zu dem durch die gesellschaftsethische Literatur geprägten höfischen Kommunikationsideal aufweisen. Dabei wird gezeigt, welche Rolle der Körper als Gesprächsthema im höfischen Körperideal spielte und welche Ähnlichkeiten und Unterschiede dazu sich in Liselottes Briefen feststellen lassen.The extensive collection of correspondences of Elisabeth Charlotte, Duchesse d’Orléans (known as Liselotte von der Pfalz), sister-in law of Louis XIV, is one of the few remaining sources with exceptional insight into the life at the court of the Sun King. Her letters contain numerous lively and witty descriptions of the appearances and bodily practices of the contemporaries she met there – descriptions that range from subtle anecdotes to scatological jokes. Especially the latter, sometimes paired with strong language, have led various scholars to believe that her writing style was not in accordance with the refined communication culture at the court. The perception of Liselotte’s writing style, characterized by literary and theatrical allusions, repartee, and a tendency towards detailed description of courtly life, seems to be dominated by a stereotypical classification of Liselotte as a “unrefined German” contrasted with the gallantry of the French. This study contradicts this assumption by analysing whether and to what extent the writing about the body in Liselotte’s letters follows the rules described in the handbooks on courtly communication of the Early Modern Period
Towards a Poetics of the Mental Health Play
No full textSoftcover, 17x24This study traces key developments in theatre’s engagement with mental health since the 1970s. It introduces and applies the concept of the ‘mental health play’ as accurate and timely in addressing the way mental distress and mental illness have been brought to the stage. The study argues that the theatre is a central calibrator for reflecting developments and tensions in, as well as attitudes towards, mental health care, and thus opens up a domain that still has stereotypes and myths attached to it. Theatre’s representations of mental distress inform and shape cultural production and vice versa. Mental health plays are central in encouraging and fostering conversations about mental health, and they thus intervene in ongoing debates. Due to its interdisciplinary approach, this study contributes to and extends existing research in multiple fields, including theatre and science, performance studies, and the medical humanities

(IDV). Der vorliegende Sammelband geht zurück auf die internationale Fachtagung „Das DACH-Prinzip in der Praxis“, die im März 2018 am Goethe-Institut München stattfand. Die verschriftlichten und weitergedachten Beiträge geben einerseits Einblick in den aktuellen Stand der kulturwissenschaftlichen und variationslinguistischen Fachdiskussion im Bereich DaF/DaZ.
