    Get PDF
Infertility is a reproductive health problem that is widely researched with reference to numerous psychological concerns faced by infertile individuals. Childless couples face numerous personal and social consequences with every passing day. Among them, immediate family members' expectations to carry on the family’s name significantly weigh down marital union in the form of marital dissatisfaction among infertile individuals. Therefore, the relationship between stress related to infertility and its impact on the marital union, individuals (N = 150) of 18-40 years (M = 29.19, SD = 5.59) were taken from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Attock. The sample was approached at infertility centers, hospitals, offices, and their homes using snowball and purposive sampling techniques. Fertility Problem Inventory (FPI) and ENRICH Marital Satisfaction (EMS) Scale was administered on the sample. The results established satisfactory Cronbach alpha reliabilities (α = .63 to α = .93) for all scales. Hypotheses testing revealed that stress due to infertility negatively affects the marital satisfaction of infertile individuals and accounted for a 7% variance. Lastly, non-significant gender differences were observed across the variables of the study. These findings would be helpful in understanding the dynamics of stress, faced by childless individuals and would be beneficial in the investigation of cultural buffering factors. Non-significant gender differences across infertility-related stress further highlight the significance of devising and providing intervention-based programs and therapies for both men and women to cope with the stress and strengthen the marital union of infertile individuals

    Get PDF
Citrullus lanatus (Thunb.), is a globally utilized fruit during hot summer season.  When a plant is explored for medicinally important phytoconstituents then other parts of the plant are also screened. This review provides knowledge about phytoconsituents and pharmacological activities of C. lanatus fruit, juice, leaf, rind and seeds. The plant has nutritional and medicinal value due to phenolic compounds and flavonids present in fruit and juice. The seeds are essential due to its fatty acid content. The major phytoconstituents reported include Lycopene, β Carotene, Cucurbutacin E, Citrulline, Arginine, β ionone, citral and ascorbic acid. Xanthophylls are also reported in some varieties.  Some researchers have conducted toxicological studies on C. lanatus seeds and found it safe for long term use. Others have reported antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer properties. It also possesses antibacterial, antiulcer and antispasmodic activities. Citrulline, arginine and phenolic play role in dilation of vessels.  Much research work is carried out on C. lanatus seeds as compared to other parts of the plant

This study examines the impact of corporate governance on the Pakistan Stock Exchange non-financial sector dividend payment ratio. Research demonstrates that certain features or elements moderate organizations and industries. Thus, ownership limits dividend payout ratio. The study examines the relationship between corporate governance, ownership structures, and dividend payment ratios. The board structure, CEO duality, and independent board of directors are also covered. Panel data analysis examines standard accounting variables. Uses 2016–2020 non-financial firm statistics. These discoveries have made independent boards with non-resident members and higher dividends more crucial. Bigger boards with independent directors pay less dividends. CEO duality in the top five stockholder boards also negatively impacts dividend decisions at 5% significance. The ownership structure moderated findings that contradict earlier work but are supported by current conditions. Get PDF
The Carrot pomace (Daucus carota) is a root vegetable known for its nutritional importance, health benefits, and a rich source of phytochemicals including carotenoids, ascorbic acid, phenolics, and polyacetylenes. These phenolic compounds exhibit different pharmacological properties. This review study aimed to evaluate the nutritional as well as medicinal importance of carrot pomace. This review is helpful for a researcher who conducts a study on carrot pomace. Electronic databases MEDLINE, Scopus, PMC, PubMed database, Web of science, whereas Google Scholar was used as a secondary search tool. The keywords used were carrot pomace, Chemopreventive, Antioxidant, Anticancer, Phytochemistry, Pharmacological potential, and nutritional potential. More than 200 researches were searched from 2008 to 2021 related to the Carrot pomace. The results of comparing the antioxidant activity of two Algerian orange carrot varieties showed that the Touchon variety was richer in phenolics, flavonoids, and carotenoids and presents higher antioxidant activity in comparison with the Super-muscade variety. The nutritional composition and antioxidant properties of three varieties of carrots, Kuroda, Pamela, and Amazonia showed that the antioxidant properties were high even at low concentrations of extract. The literature review concluded that carrot is a rich source of β-carotene, fiber, and many essential micronutrients and functional ingredients having antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer properties. Carrot roots are used to prevent different cancers, free radical scavengers, anti-mutagenic and boost the immunity as it contains large amount of carotenoids specifically β-carotene

An Analysis of Fiscal Sustainability in Pakistan

    Get PDF
This study attempts to investigate the fiscal sustainability of Pakistan empirically. The relationship among fiscal policy factors like the Primary Balance, Government interest-free spending, Government Revenue, and macroeconomic variables such as Gross Public Debt and GDP growth rate is analyzed by estimating fiscal reaction functions, Government expenditure adjustments, and Government revenue adjustments to debt. The results indicate that the fiscal policy adopted by the government of Pakistan is sustainable because there is a strong correlation between the primary balance percentage of GDP and the lag Debt percentage of GDP if there is rise in debt, the primary balance rises too. There is an adverse impact of government expenditure on primary balance. Results obtained from the multiple regression analysis show that adjustments to debt come from the expenditure side as it is highly significant compared to Government revenue adjustments that are insignificant. In this study, I also employed Markov Switching Vector Autoregressive (VAR) Model using quarterly data for the period of 19 years from 2000-2019 just to observe the behavior of macroeconomic variables toward debt, but the results are unsatisfactory in most of the variables as it doesn’t indicate any relationship between the variables. It is concluded that the accumulation of Pakistan’s debt could be handled by rationalizing government expenditure. However, Pakistan needs to implement conventional taxation policy measures and ensure proper utilization of tax revenue to its optimum level to lessen the debt burden on the economy. Along with that, the government also needs to work on its investment and export areas which will ultimately increase the government revenue and help the economy to overcome the long-standing issue of budget deficit

Nexus between Government Expenditure and Economic Growth in Pakistan: Comparative Analysis of Wagner’s Law and Keynes’s View

    Get PDF
Objective: The major objective of this study is to empirically investigate the existence of Wagner’s rule, Keynes’s views, and Wagner’s additional versions in the short and long run for the case of Pakistan. Design/Methodology/Approach: The simple OLS method is used to check the existence of Wagner’s law, and its variants for the period of 1970 to 2021 in the case of Pakistan. For checking long-run relationships of Wagner’s variants, the Johansen co-integration test was used. Findings: The OLS results confirmed the existence of Wagner’s in Pakistan. The Johansen co-integration results explored that there is no long-run co-integration for Pakistan’s economy. The Granger causality results revealed that only three versions have bi-directional causality and favour Keynes’s view. Originality/Value: The study implicates the government’s final consumption expenditure for public welfare that aims to spur the economic growth of an economy. Theoretical/Practical Implications of the Findings: The policymakers should set conducive policies for the increase in government final consumption expenditure for public welfare. Developing countries such as Pakistan should follow Keynes’s view
