Foundational Sources of Western Thought and Civilization: An Historic Exploration from the Islamic Perspective
The contemporary era is considered the most established period of human intellectual history, an age of culmination of human thought, civilization, and philosophy. The diverse theories, unique concepts and innovative ideas have reached their zenith with the intense competition of thought and civilization. In such a competitive scenario, Islamic and Western civilizations have acquired special attention, role, and status in the global sociopolitical context. Every civilization has some special features and elements which make it distinct from others. This study will deliberate the foundational sources of western thought and civilization regarding its historic exploration from within the Islamic context. A historic and analytical research methodology has been adopted for a better understanding of western and Islamic thoughts by comparing different aspects of both perceptions. It is perceived that Western civilization is a mixture of Greco-Roman Civilization including tenets from Judeo-Christian sources which evolved through centuries to reach its current position while the Islamic civilization has revealed footings with a socio-religious and religio-political rich history. Therefore, the impact and status of the two civilizations are different from each other due to distinct epistemological considerations.

Strychnos nux vomica, a traditional phytomedicine for nervine & joint disorders: A short review
Strychnos nux-vomica L. (Strychnine tree) is from the genus Strychnos of the family Loganiaceae. It is a medium sized tree with white flowers and 3 nerved leaves. Traditionally, Unani/Eastern Medicine (EM) physicians have used it for hundreds of years. According to the philosophy of EM, it is used in phlegmatic diseases like paralysis, facial palsy, ptosis, gout, joint pain, sciatica etc. It is used as a single medicine as well as in compound formulations. This article is focused to elaborate its uses in nervine and joint disorders. Scientific databases including, PubMed, Elsevier and Google scholar were explored for the research. Articles were included from 2008 to 2023 in the above-mentioned search engine. Different key words used were “Azaraqi”, “Strychnos nux vomica”, “Sciatica”, “arthritis”, “nervine disorders”, and “joints disorders”. Strychnos nux vomica as an individual drug and its combination with other drugs as a compound medicine can be used in treatment of facial palsy, epilepsy, gout, arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, cervical spondylosis, and sciatica. It was also found that the species has promising anti-inflammatory, anti-convulsant, anti-arthritic, anti-epileptogenic, and anti-oxidant activities. Additionally, it can also help in the regeneration of damaged nerve. From this study, it can be concluded that Strychnine tree can be a leading candidate in treating different nervine and specially, joint disorders which is supported by case studies. However, more mechanistic evidence and research through in-vitro, in-vivo, and clinical studies are required particularly for joint disorders
An Economic Impact of Political Instability and Corruption on Economic Development: Evidence from Pakistan
Objective: The present study intended to explore the consequences of political instability and corruption on economic development for the case of Pakistan.
Research Gap: The vacant literature on the topic analyzed the corruption and political instability impacts on economic development separately. However, the present study captures the impacts of both variables simultaneously for the case of Pakistan economy by using time series data and ARDL technique.
Design/Methodology/Approach: Objective is fulfilled by taking time series data from 1984-2020 fir Pakistan economy. The principal variables were corruption and political instability, other control variables include total investment to GDP ratio and gross fixed capital formation. GDP growth is used as proxy for economic development. Data is obtained from transparency international and international country risk guide. For empirical investigation Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model is used. An index is developed for political instability.
The Main Findings: The results demonstrated that political instability and corruption can deteriorate the economic development since the negative impact is found of the principal variables on economic development. Investment to GDP ratio and GFCF have positive impact on economic development. Based on the findings of the present research it is suggested that steps should be taken for the control of corruption and for political stability.
Theoretical / Practical Implications of the Findings: The results indicate that economic development is hindered by political instability and corruption. To enhance economic progress in the case of Pakistan, it is essential to implement policies that promote political stability and eliminate corruption, as these factors act as significant obstacles to economic growth.
Originality/Value: The research employed Transparency International's CPI index to assess the influence of corruption on economic development. Additionally, a self-created index of political instability was utilized to gauge the effects of political instability on economic growth. These measures are likely being employed for the first time to evaluate the long-term impacts of the study variables on the economy of Pakistan, utilizing the latest available data
Evaluating Socio-Economic Correlates of Severity of Covid-19 Impact With Implications for Well-Being: A Case Study of Pakistan
Objective: The World Health Organization (WHO) has proclaimed COVID-19 as a pandemic due to which each country has imposed a lockdown to control the viral disease. The above restrictions have created many global social, economic, and psychological problems. The current study is designed to evaluate the socio-economic correlates of the severity of COVID-19 impact with implications for well-being in Pakistan.
Research Gap: To analyze the socio-economic correlates of the severity of COVID-19 impact with implications for well-being in Pakistan; most of the studies used qualitative research methods and descriptive analysis; however, some used quantitative research methods but did not provide a detailed analysis using econometric methods. This study will use representative survey data of Pakistan, collected by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics to fill up this gap.
Design/Methodology/Approach: An ordered logistic regression technique and a generalized ordered logistic regression model will be used to analyze the COVID-19 impact.
The Main Findings: The findings show that during the COVID-19 pandemic, household severity increased. The results show that the pandemic’s severity among households has increased by 19.9% due to domestic job loss. Similarly, reduced healthcare services have also raised the probability of households being severely affected by the pandemic.
Theoretical / Practical Implications of the Findings: The findings of the study are applicable for policymakers to proactively plan for any pandemic or epidemic in the future. Policymakers must pay massive attention to the jobs, strengthening the healthcare services and social safety nets and aid programs in Pakistan that can reduce the households’ severity.
Originality/Value: The contribution of the study is to provide an econometric analysis of the socio-economic correlates of the severity of COVID-19 impact and evaluate the impact of the pandemic concerning job loss, food insecurity, and limited access to healthcare facilities
