The Social and Communal Engagement of Religious Seminaries in the Contemporary Era: An Analytical Study: مدارسِ دینیہ کی عصر حاضر میں سماجی و معاشرتی فعالیت: ایک تجزیاتی مطالعہ

    No full text
Religious seminaries (madaris) are not only centers for the teaching and dissemination of Islamic sciences but also constitute a vital pillar of Muslim social and cultural identity. Historically, these institutions have played a prominent role in educational, missionary, welfare, and judicial domains. In the contemporary era, as society undergoes rapid transformation and new social and cultural values emerge, an important question arises: do religious seminaries continue to maintain their social engagement today? If so, what is the nature of this engagement and what impact does it have? This paper examines the social, welfare, and cultural activities of religious seminaries in the present age. It also seeks to explore whether these institutions possess the capacity to move beyond their traditional boundaries to meet modern social demands. If such capacity is lacking, the study considers the directions in which seminaries should progress. The paper attempts to address the following questions: What is the current social and communal role of religious seminaries? Are seminaries actively contributing to public welfare, adult education, and social reform? What changes are essential within seminaries to respond effectively to contemporary needs? What challenges do seminaries face in sustaining and expanding their social engagement? The study is based on analytical and qualitative research methods, incorporating fieldwork reports from seminaries, interviews with education experts, and a comparative analysis of existing social initiatives

The Battle of the Trench: Defensive Strategy and Allied Organization: غزوہ خندق: دفاعی حکمت عملی اور اتحادی نظم

    No full text
The Battle of the Trench (Ghazwa-e-Khandaq) marks a pivotal moment in Islamic military history where the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ introduced an unprecedented defensive tactic—digging a trench around Madinah. This battle exemplified both military ingenuity and a remarkable display of allied unity under pressure. In today's world, where warfare has shifted from brute force to strategic diplomacy and collective defense, the lessons of the Battle of the Trench remain timeless. It teaches the importance of consultation, strategic foresight, and building alliances for common defense. This battle serves as a model for modern Muslim societies facing external and internal challenges. Despite limited resources, the Muslims of Madinah effectively repelled a powerful coalition through strategic defense and communal solidarity—principles still essential in modern geopolitics. The key research questions include: What were the core defensive strategies employed during the Battle of the Trench? How was the alliance of various tribes and groups successfully managed? What can contemporary Muslim leadership learn from this event? This paper follows a historical-analytical approach. It draws upon primary sources, supplemented by modern interpretations from military historians and political analysts. The primary research questions guiding this inquiry are: What are the core principles and components of an education system derived from the Prophetic tradition? How can these timeless principles be operationalized within the administrative and curricular structures of a modern state? What societal benefits—such as enhanced social cohesion, ethical governance, and sustainable development—could arise from implementing such a model? The methodology involves a qualitative analysis of primary Islamic sources (the Quran and Sunnah) alongside a review of historical Islamic educational institutions and contemporary scholarship on education philosophy. The study concludes that the Prophetic model provides a robust, values-based architecture for education that addresses the limitations of purely materialistic systems. It offers the potential to foster a society grounded in knowledge ('ilm), ethical consciousness (taqwa), and public welfare (maslaha). The findings are significant for policymakers and educators seeking to develop education systems that harmonize material progress with spiritual and moral integrity

Abstract This article explores the pivotal role of women in the political and social spheres of the Fatimid Caliphate (909–1171 AD). Challenging the conventional narratives of medieval Islamic history, it highlights how women, particularly those of the royal household like Sitt al-Mulk, Rasad, and Queen Arwa al-Sulayhi, exercised significant influence over state affairs. The study delves into the mechanisms of consultation employed by Fatimid Caliphs, revealing that women were active participants in decision-making, succession planning, and diplomatic relations. It examines the cultural and architectural contributions fostered by these women, asserting their impact on the distinct Fatimid identity. The article further analyzes the consequences of such involvement, arguing that while it largely contributed to stability and cultural efflorescence, unchecked interference occasionally led to internal strife. Ultimately, the research underscores the contemporary relevance of the Fatimid model, suggesting that the inclusion of women in governance and social leadership is not a modern novelty but a rooted historical precedent in Islamic civilization, offering valuable insights for gender roles in modern Muslim societies. حجۃ الوداع کے متعلق روایاتِ مسند ابو یعلیٰ الموصلی کا فقہ السیرۃ کے تناظر میں مطالعہ و جائزہ: A Study and Analysis of the Narrations on the Farewell Pilgrimage in Musnad Abu Ya ‘la al-Mawsili in the Light of the Fiqh al-Sirah

    No full text
This paper presents a critical study of the narrations related to Ḥajjat al-Wadāʿ, as preserved in Musnad Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī, within the framework of Fiqh al-Sīrah. It initiates with a small biography of Imām Abū Yaʿlā al-Mawṣilī (d. 307 A.H.), his status as a scholar amongst the 3rd-century ḥadīth authorities, and finally the characteristic features of his Musnad, containing over seven thousand narrations arranged by Companions. Seventy-seven of these narrations deal with the Farewell Pilgrimage. The research further discusses the juristic and spiritual dimensions derived from these reports on issues such as the obligation and types of ḥajj, the Prophet’s (peace be upon him) method of performing ḥajj, the integration of ʿumrah and ḥajj, and the rituals of wuqūf ʿArafah, ramy al-jamrāt, sacrifice, ṭawāf, saʿy, and the farewell sermon. As the paper examines these narrations from the perspective of Fiqh al-Sīrah, it outlines the Prophetic model as the ultimate practical demonstration of Islamic law and ethics. This is done in the process of concluding that Musnad Abū Yaʿlā bears a valuable record from a juristic and historical point of view regarding Ḥajjat al-Wadāʿ; indeed, the perfect balance between ritual worship and moral instruction is achieved in the final sermon by the Prophet

سورت بنی اسرائیل کی روشنی میں تذکیر بالموت و مابعدالموت کاعصری اطلاق: Contemporary Application of Tezkir in Death and after death in the light of Surah Bani Israel

    No full text
Surah Bani Isra’il (Surah Al-Isra) presents a profound discourse on the themes of divine justice, resurrection, and life after death, emphasizing the concept of Tadhkeer bil-Mawt wa Ma Ba’d al-Mawt (remembrance of death and the afterlife). This study explores how the Surah addresses these themes in light of the historical narrative of Bani Isra’il, drawing lessons relevant to contemporary Muslim societies. Through an exegetical analysis of key Quranic verses and supporting Hadith literature, this paper highlights the Surah’s warnings against moral corruption, materialism, and negligence of spiritual responsibilities. It further examines the consequences of disobedience to divine commandments, illustrating how the repeated rise and fall of Bani Isra’il serve as a cautionary tale for present-day believers. Additionally, the study delves into the psychological and ethical implications of remembering death, emphasizing how it fosters humility, accountability, and adherence to Islamic values. The research employs a qualitative methodology, incorporating classical and modern Tafsir (Quranic exegesis) to contextualize the Surah’s message within contemporary socio-religious challenges. Findings suggest that an increased awareness of death and the afterlife encourages individuals to prioritize righteousness, leading to personal and societal transformation. This study contributes to Islamic scholarship by reaffirming the Quranic emphasis on eschatological consciousness as a means to cultivate moral integrity and spiritual resilience

Digital Technological Tools in Quranic Studies and Their Impacts

Abstract: Digital technology is accessible in many fields of Quranic studies. The integration of digital tools into the study of the Glorious Quran has expanded access, enhanced research capabilities and facilitated teaching and learning processes across the globe. Mobile and desktop applications like Quran.com, iQuran provide users with the text of the Quran translations in multiple languages, audio recitations and tafsir. These tools are essential for both casual readers and serious students of the Quran. Digital libraries like Al-Maktaba Al-Shamela, IslamWeb, and Tafsir Center offer access to old and new tafsir works. Users can compare different scholarly interpretations of verses quickly and efficiently. Different Quran Websites offer structured courses in Quranic Arabic, tafsir, and Quran memorization (hifz), making high-quality education accessible in the world. New technologies use artificial intelligence for voice recognition to help users correct their recitation, generate thematic studies of Quranic verses, and provide context-sensitive tafsir based on user queries. Anyone with an internet connection can access the Quran and related resources. This democratizes religious knowledge and removes traditional barriers such as geography and language. Digital search functions allow researchers to instantly locate verses, hadiths, and scholarly commentary, significantly speeding up the research process. Apps and online platforms offer quizzes, pronunciation guides and recitation feedback, making learning more engaging and effective, especially for younger audiences. With multilingual translations and dictionaries, non-Arabic speakers can better understand the Quranic message. Not all digital resources are reliable. Users must verify the credibility of sources to avoid misinterpretation or exposure to misinformation. The internet’s fast paced environment may promote surface-level engagement with the Quran rather than deep study. Digital tools have greatly enriched Quranic studies, making the Qur’an more accessible and its sciences more structured and research-friendly. However, it is vital to approach these tools with discernment using them as supplements rather than replacements for traditional Islamic scholarship and personal spiritual development. &nbsp
