Exploratory analysis of Internet of Things (IoT): revolutionizing the grocery retail industry

    Get PDF
This dissertation has investigated the consequences of implementing Internet of Things (IoT) technologies in grocery retailing by analyzing customers' perceptions of eight prominent technologies. The objective was to investigate and explore to what degree implementing these technologies would impact the customer experience. Based on secondary research, this thesis focuses on eight prominent technologies that presumably will encounter an increasing utilization in the visible future; Self-Scanning, Smart Robots, Smart Shelves, Smart Shopping Cart, Smart Fridge, Just Walk Out, Personalized Promotion/Pricing, and Mobile Apps. The technology distribution varies across different stages in the customer journey, and research indicates that IoT has the most significant impact in the pre-purchase stage. A comprehensive exploratory survey was conducted through Amazon mTurk with a wide range of respondents (n=204), giving valuable insight into demographic differences' influence on each technology perception. The investigation uncovered vast differences in several areas such as age, attitude, and privacy. Among other findings, the age segment 35-44 is more confident towards IoT technology than the age segment 55+, and shoppers with a positive attitude towards grocery shopping have higher confidence towards the technologies than shoppers with a negative attitude. On a widespread basis, the findings revealed that all eight technologies would positively affect customer experience to a certain level. Lekser i ungdomskolen

    No full text

Airport service quality and passenger satisfaction : the impact of service failure on the likelihood of promoting an airport online

    Get PDF
Based on the analysis of 2278 online passenger ratings of airports worldwide, this study uses a standard multinomial logit model to determine the likelihood of a passenger being a promoter of an airport when a service attribute has failed, controlling for several passenger and airport characteristics. Results show that failures associated with airport staff and queueing times are most likely to reduce the probability of a passenger being a promoter of an airport. Failures associated with airport shopping and wifi service are least likely to do so. More importantly, the failure of any service attribute in this study significantly reduces the probability of a passenger being a promoter of an airport. This suggests that all parts of the airport value chain are likely to suffer when a service attribute fails. Passenger and airport characteristics included in this study do not add significant explanation to whether a passenger becomes a promoter. Innovation governance in the forest sector: Reviewing concepts, trends and gaps

    Get PDF
Innovation in the forest sector is a growing research interest and within this field, there is a growing attention for institutional, policy and societal dimensions and particular when it comes to the question of how to support innovativeness in the sector. This Special Issue therefore focuses on governance aspects, relating to and bridging business and political-institutional-societal levels. This includes social/societal factors, goals and implications that have recently been studied under the label of social innovation. Furthermore, the emergence of bioeconomy as a paradigm and policy goal has become a driver for a variety of innovation processes on company and institutional levels. Our article provides a tentative definition of “innovation governance” and attempts a state-of-art review of innovation governance research in the forest sector. For structuring the research field, we propose to distinguish between organizational/managerial, policy or innovation studies. For the forestry sector, specifically, we suggest to distinguish between studies focusing on (i) innovative governance of forest management and forest goods and services; on (ii) the governance of innovation processes as such, or (iii) on specific (transformational) approaches that may be derived from combined goals such as innovation governance for sustainability, regional development, or a bioeconomy. Studies in the forest sector are picking up new trends from innovation research that increasingly include the role of societal changes and various stakeholders such as civil society organizations and users. They also include public-private partnership models or participatory governance. We finally should not only look in how far research approaches from outside are applied in the sector but we believe that the sector could contribute much more to our general scientific knowledge on ways for a societal transformation to sustainability.publishedVersio

The influence of exercise modality on training load management

    Get PDF
Purpose: To provide novel insight regarding the influence of exercise modality on training load management by: 1) providing a theoretical framework for the impact of physiological and biomechanical mechanisms associated with different exercise modalities on training load management in endurance exercise, and 2) comparing effort-matched low-intensity training sessions performed by top level athletes in endurance sports with similar energy demands. Practical Applications and Conclusions: The ability to perform endurance training with manageable muscular loads and low injury risks in different exercise modalities are influenced both by mechanical factors, as well as muscular state and coordination which interrelate in optimizing power production while reducing friction and/or drag. Consequently, the choice of exercise modality in endurance training influence effort beyond commonly used external and internal load measurements and should be considered alongside duration, frequency and intensity when managing training load. By comparing effort-matched low-to-moderate intensity sessions performed by top level athletes in endurance sports, this study exemplifies how endurance exercise with varying modalities leads to different tolerable volumes. For example, the weight-bearing exercise and high impact forces in long-distance running puts high loads on muscles and tendons, leading to relatively low training volume tolerance. In speed skating, flexed knee and hip position required for effective speed skating leads to occlusion of thighs and low volume tolerance. In contrast, the non-weight-bearing, low-contraction exercises in cycling or swimming allows for large volumes in the specific exercise modalities. Overall, these differences have major implications on training load management in sports.acceptedVersio

Reinforcement learning multi-agent system for faults diagnosis of mircoservices in industrial settings

    Get PDF
This paper develops a new framework called MASAD (Multi-Agents System for Anomaly Detection), a hybrid combination of reinforcement learning, and a multi-agents system to identify abnormal behaviors of microservices in industrial environment settings. A multi-agent system is implemented using reinforcement learning, where each agent learns from the given microservice. Intelligent communication among the different agents is then established to enhance the learning of each agent by considering the experience of the agents of the other microservices of the system. The above setting not only allows to identify local anomalies but global ones from the whole microservices architecture. To show the effectiveness of the framework as proposed, we have gone through a thorough experimental analysis on two microservice architectures (NETFLIX, and LAMP). Results showed that our proposed framework can understand the behavior of microservices, and accurately simulate different interactions in the microservices. Besides, our approach outperforms baseline methods in identifying both local and global outliers.submittedVersio

Video portfolio as an exam option in a database course

    Get PDF
What happens when we provide database students with a choice of selecting between two different exam types? Do you want to display your skills and knowledge through a traditional three hour school exam, or do you want to display them by creating a video portfolio? This paper describes a specific case where the students at Kristiania University College got that choice. A new video portfolio exam was piloted for three years. The results from the pilot are presented and discussed in relation to related topics such as flexible assessment, Open Educational Resources, portfolio and, most importantly, learning. Portfolio students self-report that they learn more through a portfolio assessment than a traditional school exam, and the exam results indicate the same. But after piloting for three years, only 10% of the students chose portfolio as their final exam. We try to understand why the numbers of portfolio students were so low, and the students’ thoughts behind the exam choice. Video portfolio exam comes with an extra assessment cost and there are challenges in regard to plagiarism. Looking ahead, we try to describe how we may use some of the perceived benefits of using a video portfolio exam into our teaching. How may we be provide students with similar learning activities without risking an increase in plagiarism cases and assessment costs?acceptedVersio

Web based receipt template builder for Zeipt - A user-centered prototype

    Get PDF
