Reemigracija Lietuvoje XXI a.: švietimo sistemos parengtis priimti grįžtančių šeimų vaikus
The article analyses the readiness of the Lithuanian education system to accept children from returning families. Moreover, it determines the problems and describes the factors hindering the effective integration of remigrant children. The summarised scientific literature is illustrated by empirical research data. Based on the aforementioned data of this study, it is concluded that the concept of education of remigrant children is ever-changing. The main obstacles that Lithuanian educational institutions are facing at the moment are Lithuanian language education and nurturing, a lack of tolerance and competencies of educators. The development and creation of a cooperative environment within the school is determined to be one of the most successful methods to facilitate the job of educators.
The article describes three metaphorically designated educational conceptions: the antique notion of the educator as a sculptor, the new age notion of the educator as a gardener, and our era’s emerging educator as a guide. All conceptions of education provide a specific answer to the problem of education, which consists of the fact that a human being is defined to be undefined, therefore the formation of a person depends on the educator. The educator as a sculptor addresses this problem by forcing a preconceived conception of reason on learners. The educator as a gardener accepts every learner and educates him or her by dealing with their individual capacities. The educator as a guide combines the educational method of the sculptor and the gardener: as a sculptor has a vision of the educational process, and as a gardener attempts that every learner walks this path himself or herself. The educational conception of the educator as a sculptor is socialist and the conception of the educator as a gardener is liberal. The educator as a guide corresponds to the emerging new conception of politics in our time, which has a task of reconciling socialism and liberalism.

„Ogieniaszku, Zygmuncie! Tyś gość i ja gość…“ Konceptualizacja ognia jako istoty żywej w polskiej kulturze ludowej. Analiza etnolingwistyczna
The analysis is focused on the reconstruction of an image of fire as a living creature, preserved in the Polish folk culture. This image is corroborated by linguistic data, e.g. names, epithets, established connections, riddles, proverbs, formulas of greeting and bidding farewell to a home fire and of obviating fire, as well as by “paralinguistic data” that is beliefs and practices. Conceptualization of natural phenomena (such as fire) in the categories of a living “being” has a general cultural character, corresponds to a vision of the world as an integrated organism whose components are endowed with life and consciousness, and can be a manifestation of the mythical perception of the world. The analysed material has been acquired from dictionaries of dialects, works of folklore collectors and archive resources (i.e. the Ethnolinguistic Archive of Maria Curie-Skłodowska University and the File of the Dictionary of Polish Dialects of the Polish Academy of Sciences).Celem artykułu jest rekonstrukcja obrazu ognia jako istoty żywej, utrwalonego w polskiej kulturze ludowej: w nazwach, epitetach, ustabilizowanych połączeniach, zagadkach, przysłowiach, formułach powitania, żegnania ognia domowego i zażegnywania pożaru oraz danych „przyjęzykowych”, tj. wierzeniach i praktykach.
Znaczenie języka ojczystego w pielęgnowaniu wartości i kształtowaniu osobowości: aspekt filozoficzny
The author of the article examines the relation between language and values from the perspective of a native speaker who finds in his or her mother tongue a linguistic articulation of those values that are prevalent in the speaker’s community and are shared by all or most of its members.Language is a unique medium where values are presented, examined and constantly re-evaluated by members of a linguistic community. Especially the native speaker’s mother language, much better than any other language learned later in life, reveals its special role in the process of a person’s moral growth and overall personal development. The mother tongue shared by certain linguistic community plays the leading role in forming one’s world view, and this linguistically created world outlook is imbued with specific moral and aesthetic values characteristic of that linguistic community. The mother language not only emerges as a bridge that connects the native speaker to his or her ancestors and the entire cultural legacy created by former generations, but also reveals itself as the most rewarding medium for the expression of the native speaker’s personal experience and personal creative insights. The author of the article is of the opinion that the appreciation of one’s mother tongue and the recognition of its privileged status should not be viewed as leading to linguistic and cultural isolation, but as opening the gate to other languages and linguistic world views. What is even more important is that, in the author’s opinion, the appreciation of one’s mother tongue enhances one’s ability to appreciate the linguistic medium as such and to celebrate language as such, not only one’s mother language. Respect for our mother tongue also enhances our capacity to creatively and respectfully encounter other languages and other linguistically construed world views.Yet it is also argued that we should not view our mother tongue as the only, albeit very authoritative, guide in the sphere of values – our own critical mind and critical reflexion on the nature of values should go hand in hand with the received collective wisdom that we find crystalized in our mother tongue, in language as such, as well as in all forms of traditional culture.W artykule zanalizowano związki między językiem i wartościami, uwidoczniające się z perspektywy rodzimego użytkownika języka.
DRAUGO konceptas publicistikoje
This article deals with the contents of friend based on the different forms of the noun friend (Lith. draugas). A balance is drawn between the structural and cognitive approach to its meaning. The study is grounded on 700 publicistics sentences collected in the Corpus of the Modern Lithuanian Language compiled by the Centre for Computational Linguistics at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas. The study has showed that friend is perceived as a person who acts out of love at a certain place and time.In terms of love, there are friends that are tied (rather) by bonds of fellow-feeling (The Dictionary of the Standard Lithuanian Language – DSLLe friend definition 1, 2) (In the beginning, they were huge friends and liked each other a lot; Friends love you) and those who (rather) share bodily intimacy (DSLLe friend definition 3). On the basis of the criterion of love, the relationship between a person and their friend can revolve in circles: a friend by DSLLe definition 1 or 2 becomes a friend by DSLLe definition 3 (After all, our friends, then families would begin and end in theatre), and vice-versa; a friend by DSLLe definition 2 can become a friend by DSLLe definition 1, and so on. In other words, friendship as fellow-feeling can transform into bodily love, and once bodily love goes away, friends, as husband and wife, can become/remain friends again as very close acquaintances.Someone who loves themselves unconditionally knows how to love another person that way. This kind of friend favours themselves and the other person. Mutual favour unfolds over time spent together, when mutual affinity is found/discovered. That time creates good, real friends that become a value (I treasure good friends the most. We have a bunch of very good mates that we have jolly good time with. We talk, we dance. Or we simply spend time in very comfortable silence). To be a friend, is to become a friend (DSLLe friend definition 1–3 vs. DSLLe friend definition 4). To oneself, first and foremost. The type of friend a person is to themselves is usually revealed through the person’s (myself) relationship with another person they know to a greater or lesser extent. That other person can either be a familiar (DSLLe friend definition 3) or strange (DSLLe friend definition 1, 2) person and/or non-person. Friendship between a person and a thing is a one-way street: it is untrue. What matters in this type of friendship, is not the time spent together, but rather benefit and/or pleasure. In other words, the person (myself) cannot be defined through the understanding of friend, i.e. on the basis of the criterion of similarity: tell me who your friend is, and I will tell you who you are.In terms of time, friends can be defined to a lesser or greater extent (DSLLe friend definition 1, 3 (These friends of father’s go back to Smetona’s era; the friend of my life) resp. DSLLe friend definition 2 (Could it be that she only remained a mere dodgeball friend?)). This is also more or less the case in point when it comes to the aspect of location: well-defined (DSLLe friend definition 3), better-defined (DSLLe friend definition 2; cf.: my roommate) or undefined (DSLLe friend definition 1) friends. The friendship between man and God can be one-way (from God to man) an (become) two-way (between God and man). They both are driven by love, hence are real.Šio straipsnio objektas – draugo samprata daiktavardžio draugas formų pagrindu.
In this chapter the authors set out to examine how migrant families are named and framed in academic publications by Lithuanian researchers published from 2004 to 2017, available in Lithuanian and international academic databases. The authors aim to disclose how Lithuanian academics perceive the change of family boundaries and fluidity of family relations in the context of global migration, and how the meanings of ‘change’ are used within academic publications that have sought to define the migrant family life as ‘troubling’. The analysis of publications presented in this chapter was carried out from January to March 2018. It formed a sub-study of the research project ‘Global Migration and Lithuanian Family: Family Practices, Circulation of Care, and Return Strategies’ (2017–2019), funded by the Lithuanian Research Council. The analysis has revealed that Lithuanian researchers portray migrant families as extended in space, liquid, networked, survived, but unsecure because of ongoing risks as well as experiencing ‘losses’ or/ and ‘gains’. The researchers conclude that portraits presented by the academics are framed by the family ideology, while naming of migrant families highly rely on the images of ‘how a family should be’.Šiame skyriuje autoriai siekia ištirti, kaip migrantų šeimos yra pavadinamos ir rėminamos 2004-2017 metų Lietuvos mokslininkų publikacijose, paskelbtose Lietuvos ir tarptautinėse duomenų bazėse.
This chapter is set up to incorporate Finch’s idea of ‘display’ to examine how migrant parents, adult migrant children, and close significant persons perform a set of actions to convey to each other and the society at large that these are family-doing activities. The authors sought to demonstrate that the concept of ‘display’ could be applied to analyze transnational practices of parenting and caring for elderly parents in a quantitative way. The chapter draws on the data from a quotabased survey (N = 304) of three types of transnational families: mother-away and father-away with under-aged children living in Lithuania and adult child-away with elderly parents needing care living in Lithuania. The study was carried out in August 2018 as part of the research project ‘Global Migration and Lithuanian Family: Family Practices, Circulation of Care, and the Return Strategies’.Šiame skyriuje Finch „demonstravimo“ idėja yra taikoma analizuoti išvykusių motinų/ tėvų, suaugusių vaikų ir reikšmingų asmenų veiklas, kuriomis dalyviai siekia parodyti vieni kitiems ir platesnei visuomenei, kad jie yra „šeima“. Autoriai pristato, kaip transnacionalinės motinystės/ tėvystės ir pagyvenusių tėvų globos „demonstravimas“ gali būti tiriamas kiekybine metodologija. Remiamasi kiekybiniu kvotiniu tyrimu (N = 304), kuriame dalyvavo trys transnacionalinių šeimų tipai: šeimos, kuriose į užsienį išvykus motinai, ir šeimos, kuriose į užsienį išvykus tėvui, nepilnamečiai vaikai liko gyventi Lietuvoje bei šeimos su užsienyje gyvenančiais suaugusiais vaikais, jų tėvams, kuriems reikalinga priežiūra, liekant gyventi Lietuvoje. Tyrimas atliktas 2018 m. rugpjūtį, įgyvendinant Lietuvos mokslo tarybos finansuotą projektą „Globali migracija ir Lietuvos šeima: šeiminės praktikos, globos cirkuliacija ir sugrįžimo strategijos“ (2017-2019)
Šeimos atminties daryba ir emigracinė patirtis
This chapter present the importance of memory making in migrant families lives and how emigrants ‘do’ family memory. A representative survey of Lithuanian residents shows that those with emigration experience since 1990 participate in family memory construction more actively. The development of such communicative family memory is family work which demonstrates family solidarity and occurs between and within generations. However, this research shows that gender, age and location influence who is involved in this process with men and younger family members less likely to participate.Šiame skyriuje aprašoma šeimos atminties darybos svarba šeimose, turinčiose emigracinę patirtį ir kaip vyksta atminties komunikacija.
