[text in Polish][tekstas lenkų kalba] Studia nad dyskursem są terminem kryjącym w sobie różne teorie i różne podejścia do definicji dyskursu i jego analizy. Oba tomy serii D-ART – będąc platformą wymiany myśli uczonych zainteresowanych fenomenem dyskursu – stanowią cenny wkład w działania badaczy, pozwalające zrozumieć, czym jest dyskurs oraz jak można go badać i opisywać. Publikacje te powstały dzięki współpracy międzynarodowej społeczności akademickiej i jej ogromnemu zaangażowaniu.

The data on the distribution of Christian male names and old two-root names among two generations is provided. The research data on the names of Kaunas noblemen as well as the noblemen and citizen of other GDL territories of the same period are compared. Female names are analysed. Male designations are differentiated by the ratio of names and potential surnames into the types of onomastics, which are differentiated by the ratio of different anthroponyms into methods of onomastics. Female designations are differentiated into the types of onomastics based on the ratio of names and family anthroponyms and into the methods of onomastics based on the ratio of different types of anthroponyms. The description of the methods of onomastics takes into consideration the prefixes used with male and female designations. The structure of male and female designations is analysed: the types of anthroponyms and prefixes are indicated, the prefixes grouped into specific types are presented. The onomastics are differentiated by the number of anthroponyms, the average length of onomastics is determined. Lithuanian affixes of anthroponyms are listed.Straipsnyje tiriamas 1528 metų Lietuvos Didžiosios Kunigaikštystės surašymo Kauno bajorų – vyrų ir moterų – vardynas. “Assessment in Dialogue” (AID). Assessing the Communicative Action

    Get PDF
“Assessment in Dialogue” (AID) is a model of Joanna Piasta-Siechowicz addressed to the participants of general education: students-teachers-parents. AID reconciles contradictory tendencies of the philosophy and praxis of student assessment: the pursuit of objectivity of the former and the need of individualisation of the latter. It aspires to combine the objectivity of requirements and evaluation criteria with the need of individualisation. It is also well suited to help teachers in systematic planning of their work. “Assessment in Dialogue” refers to the trisubjectivity (student-parent-teacher) in the planning and organisation of student’s activities and, as a result, in informing about his/her achievements during a lesson. Implemented in a primary school since 2012, “Assessment in Dialogue” is popularised at conferences of principals and teachers in Poland and Ireland, workshops for teachers, publications in methodical journals. It is grounded in the official documents of the Ministry of National Education, European Council recommendations and conclusions from ten years of constant evaluation of the psycho-didactic process in schools as well as the functioning of evaluation system in Poland

Archetypes and Mythological Motifs: John Updike’s Legacy Revisited

    Get PDF
John Updike is widely considered to be one of the greatest, one of the most popular and sometimes most controversial writers concerned with the American small town and middle-class materialism. A lot of literary critics and researchers observe that Updike’s finest work came from his exploration of ordinary America and from his use of elegant prose, rich with metaphor, to portray the public and private feelings of Americans, their daily rounds of life. In addition, discussing Updike’s individual works a lot of literary critics and researchers have observed the writer’s attempts to re-write myth in “the mythical age”1 of the 20thcentury. Naturally enough, as the return to myth is assumed to be a certain feature of the Modernist movement, half a century later since Updike’s famous novel Centaur was penned, it is indispensable to re-examine the writer’s fictional intentions in the usage of myth. More importantly, it is needful to determine whether we can see the mythic elements and realistic details as a continuum or as the contrasted opposites in his so called “historical chronicles”. Updike’s novels and stories are filled with mythological motifs and character archetypes. Thus, the study aims at revisiting John Updike’s creation considering mythological elements and archetypal images of his heroes alongside with heroic masculinity, war, terrorism and American perfectionism

Blogųjų naujienų diskursas Lietuvos sovietmečio spaudoje

    Get PDF
[abstract in English; full article and abstract in Lithuanian] The rhetoric and the stylistics – the choice of text style, genre, and rhetorical devices – of Soviet bad news discourse is analysed in this paper. This discourse is represented by 193 reports regarding disasters, crimes, and violation of socialistic moral which were published in the daily paper Komjaunimo tiesa (eng. The Truth of the Komsomol) in 1970–1973. It was found that the bad news in the selection of official texts of this period distinguishes by a much lower register of Newspeak – unlike as in the articles of first pages, there is almost no pathos here, the militaristic metaphors are used in the text of the article only, but they cannot be seen in the headings. One of the main rhetorical devices is an irony, which is created by using phraseology, jargon, famous quotes, dialogues, etc., – everything, which looks like a daily colloquial language. The choice of text form which is more related to fiction than to journalism (essay, satire) may be treated as one of the pretexts which justify in the eyes of the readers an idea of an author to write in a different language than it was ordinary in the context of ideologized press language of that period. By using the corresponding rhetoric, they believed to accomplish the propagandistic aim of these texts more efficiently – to suggest an image of more safe, democratic, successful, and self-critical country than it really was.[straipsnis ir santrauka lietuvių kalba; santrauka anglų kalba] Straipsnyje tiriama sovietmečio blogųjų naujienų diskurso, kurį tyrime reprezentuoja 1970–1972 m. dienraštyje „Komjaunimo tiesa“ paskelbti 193 pranešimai apie nelaimes, nusikaltimus ir socialistinės moralės pražangas, stilistika ir retorika – tekstų stiliaus, žanrų ir retorinių priemonių pasirinkimas. Nustatyta, kad to laikotarpio oficialių tekstų masyve blogosios naujienos išsiskiria kur kas žemesniu naujakalbės registru – skirtingai nei pirmųjų puslapių straipsniuose, čia beveik nėra patoso, militaristinės metaforos vartojamos tik straipsnio tekste, bet jų nematyti antraštėse. Viena pagrindinių retorinių priemonių – ironija, kuri kuriama pasitelkiant frazeologiją, žargoną, žinomas citatas, dialogus ir pan. – visa tai, kas primena kasdienę šnekamąją kalbą. Beletristikai nei publicistikai artimesnės tekstų formos (apybraižos, satyros) pasirinkimą galima traktuoti kaip vieną iš pretekstų, skaitytojo akyse pateisinusių autoriaus sumanymą rašyti kitokia kalba to meto ideologizuotos spaudos kalbos kontekste. Manytina, kad atitinkama retorika tikėtasi efektyviau įgyvendinti propagandinį šių tekstų tikslą – įteigti saugesnės, demokratiškesnės, sėkmingesnės, nei yra, ir savikritiškos šalies įvaizdį

Kultūrinė trauma Balio Sruogos romane „Dievų miškas“

[full article and abstract in Lithuanian; abstract in English] The object of this research is cultural trauma. The signs of the cultural trauma are sought in the novel „Dievų miškas“ ("Forest of The Gods", 1957) by Balys Sruoga (1896–1947). The repressions of Nazis and cultural trauma that they caused is a new subject that did not get enough attention in the field of literature. Importance of this research is based on the idea that it is impossible to overcome the cultural trauma without consideration and discussion. The article defines the relation between text and context on the basis of the ideas of new historicism. The analysis is intended to reveal what traumatic events are represented in the novel and how the identity of the person reveals in the one, and how traumatic experience changes story style and structure. Analysis of the novel reveals that the characters face difficult living conditions, physical and psychological violence, and the constant fear of death; these things cause change of values. The irony was noticed in the novel. An ironic story becomes a language of traumatic experience that helps to avoid a sensitive story, disassociate from personal experience, and tell the tragedy of a nation. One must emphasize that in the story of traumatic experience flashbacks get very important. Finally, analysis reveals that in the novel by B. Sruoga the most important sign of identity is culture[straipsnis ir santrauka lietuvių kalba; santrauka anglų kalba] Straipsnyje analizuojama kultūrinė trauma memuariniame Balio Sruogos (1896–1947) romane „Dievų miškas“ (1957).

Polish Women in Exile to Siberia in the 19th Century – Autobiographical Reflection in Women’s Narratives

    Get PDF
[full article and abstract in English] The paper discusses the issues related to the biographical research perspective and the role of ego-documents in modern humanities. These considerations focus on autobiographical narratives of women exiled to Siberia in the 19th century, both those who were sentenced or went there voluntarily. Different forms of women’s narratives were analysed, namely a memoir of Helena Skirmuntowa (1827–1874), written in the years 1863–1867, and a diary of Maria Obuchowska-Morzycka (1841–1911?), who wrote it 40 years after her life in exile. The autobiographical research model adopted in the paper focuses not only on the questions regarding the autobiographical context of ego-documents but also on biographical and autobiographical identity of the authors, connected with the description of their life, experiences, emotions as well as their attitude to the outside world and relations with other people.[straipsnis ir santrauka anglų kalba
