Bajorų Mongirdų genealogija
The Author dealswith the forgotten history of the Mongird family of Samogitia. After conductinganalysis of Mongirdai family, genealogical table was compiled. According to statististics, extended family was active in both number of persons and in geographical distribution. Mongird(as) descendantsspread over much of the territory of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth – formally, the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland and the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and, after 1791, the Commonwealth of Poland and Tsar Russia (Russian Empire). Family itself Most members of the extended family bacame of priests, doctors, officers, artists, and public figures. For example, two brothers Vladislovas and Vytautas from a Mongird Mišučiai Manor became well known active participants inthe Lithuanian – Polish Nationalrevival back in 1863–1864. Their cousin patriot Vaclovas, a resident of Vilnius Town, who was fighting in the ranks of Polish Legion, and cousin Jadvyga Mongirdaitė were laid in Vilnius Pameriai Memorial. Their Grandmother Michalina Bankauskaitė was a great supporter of a Revival of 1863–1864. There are some unsolved relations and issues between the names of Mangirdaitis and Mongirdas that have notbeen identified yet. In the other words, Lithuanian genealogists and other researchers stillhave to work diligently (closely) to investigate and revive the history of this old Mongird tribe.
Genealoginiai ryšiai Žemaitijos bajorų heraldikos šaltiniuose XVI a. antroje pusėje – XVIII a.
Heraldry and its research have deep traditions in Europe, making it a certain focus of attention among researchers. The interest in this field in Lithuania is a more recent phenomenon. The late beginning of heraldry research was partly influenced by Lithuania’s loss of independence. At present, researchers’ attention is focused mainly on the periods of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, also looking at Lithuanian heraldry from the 20th–21st centuries, and conducting thorough research of the coats of arms of the state, cities, and towns. Research of the heraldry of the nobility is also being conducted, such as the heraldry of the political elite in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania – the Goštautas, Pacas, Radvila, Sapiega families, etc. The heraldry of representatives of the lower gentry, especially among the Samogitian families, has received less attention. Many unanswered questions and undeveloped themes remain in the field of the Samogitian nobility’s heraldry, overlooked in research for a long time. This article analyzes how genealogical links were reflected in Samogitian nobility heraldry sources in the second half of the 16th–18th centuries. Having analyzed the heraldic sources of the Samogitian nobility, it was found that these reflected not only information about a specific individual, but also their broader origins, family and marital lines. The coats of arms of the Samogitian nobility in time became a unique means of representation. The coats of arms of the Samogitian nobility were depicted in seals, literature, portraits, architecture, and elsewhere.
[full article and abstract in Lithuanian; summary in English]
Publication provides an analysis of egodocuments (sensu stricto) publishing in Lithuania from XX century 10 decade to XXI century. Changes in society brought by XX century transformed publishing process and literature field. 5 publishing houses owned by the government („Vaga“, „Vyturys“, „Mintis“, „Mokslas“, „Šviesa“) were accompanied by many private enterprises, which instantly responded to the reader’s request of such publications, which in Soviet times were not available or had never been published because of ideological censorship. At the 9 decade of XX century autobiographical writing, autobiographical cultural practices became very popular. This happened mainly because of tendency for individual to witness history, be a part of historical events. The dissemination of egodocuments through traditional and digital publishing, participation in social networks becomes important storage of cultural memory and object of scientific research. Vytautas Kubilius‘s published letters and diaries demonstrates publishing tendencies of Lithuania and the context of egodocument’s publishing.[straipsnis ir santrauka lietuvių kalba; santrauka anglų kalba]
XX a. 10 dešimtmetyje Lietuvos visuomeniniame gyvenime vykę pokyčiai buvo lūžio metas leidyboje – šalia penkių valstybinių leidyklų savo veiklą pradėjo 480 komercinių leidybos įmonių. Antroje dalyje kaip atvejį tiria tris publikuotas autodokumentines Vytauto Kubiliaus knygas: Lauksiu atsakymo: laiškai, novelės (2006); Dienoraščiai I dalis (1945– 1977) (2006) bei Dienoraščiai II dalis (1978–2004) (2007)

Two decades after the death of L. Šepka, in 2006, she sent the following letters (309) to the Rokiškis Regional Museum. The first letter of L. Šepka was written in 1970; afterwards, every year, there were more and more of them: in 1971 – 34, in 1972 – 31, in 1973 – 42, in 1974 – 37, in 1975 – 39, in 1976 – 47 and in 1977 – 78 letters. The letters were written on the sheets of school notebooks, sometimes on pieces of the wallpaper. The letters were long, most of them consisted of 8–10 pages. They covered the entire life of Lionginas Šepka, all the events and thoughts, and in each letter, there was a expressed huge concern about Danutė. Those seven years of their correspondence give us a lot of information about the life of a common person in Lithuania of that time. This is a kind of a diary that is considered to be an important witness of a common person’s life in the 1980s.[straipsnis ir santrauka lietuvių kalba; santrauka anglų kalba]

Straipsnyje stengtasi kuo išsamiau pristatyti atvirą ir neretušuotą vidinį menininko pasaulį, tai pateisina gausų laiškų citavimą.L. Šepka per septynerius metus D. Digrienei parašė per 300 laiškų. Praėjusdviem dešimtmečiams po L. Šepkos mirties, 2006 m. ji perdavė šiuos laiškus (313) Rokiškio krašto muziejui.Pirmą laišką L. Šepka parašė 1970 m. pabaigoje, po to kasmet laiškų gausėjo: nuo 31 laiško 1971 m. iki 78 laiškų 1978 m. Laiškai rašyti mokyklinio sąsiuvinio lapuose, kai jų pritrūkdavo, rašė ant tapetų. Laiškai ilgoki, retas 2–4, dauguma 8–10 puslapių. Juose tilpo visas L. Šepkos gyvenimas, visi įvykiai, visos mintys, visa jo gyvenimo filosofija, ir kiekviename laiške jaučiamas didžiulis rūpestis Danute. Tie septyneri metai, kai buvo rašyti laiškai, suteikia labai daug žinių apie paprasto žmogaus gyvenimą tuometinėje Lietuvoje. Tai savotiškas dienoraštis, kuris vertintinas kaip svarbus XX a. 8 dešimtmečio paprasto žmogaus gyvenimo liudytojas.

Kazimiero Barėno laiškai Klaipėdos universiteto bibliotekos dr. Kazio Pemkaus bibliotekoje-archyve
[full article and abstract in Lithuanian; summary in English]
Klaipėda University Library holds a collection that it had received as a gift by Kazys Pemkus (1920–1996) – bibliophile, doctor and notable person in exile. This collection contains not only a set of valuable books and periodicals, which counts more than 64 000 copies of already processed publications, but various documents connected to many famous Lithuanians in exile: reports of their activity, drafts of their writings, notes, correspondence, photos etc. Comparing with other personal archives preserving in this collection, there is not a very big number of Kazimieras Barėnas’ egodocuments. There are 26 of his letters that are discussed in this article for the first time. The chronology of K. Barėnas (1907–2006) letters embrace the period from August 8, 1948 to January 24, 1975. The letters analyzed in this article help us discover K. Barėnas not only as a journalist, publisher and editor, but the perspective that this person had on matters regarding the Lithuanian language, books, emigration and writing as well. The analyzed letters acquaint the reader with two Lithuanian writers, native from Aukštaitija: Alfonsas Šešplaukis-Tyruolis (1909–2006) and Juozas Švaistas (1891–1978) and the history of the publication of their writings. There is some focus on the literary yearbook Pradalgės, published in London during 1964–1980; its publication history, the seeking for writers and collaborations are described in the article. In writing on organizational matters and answering various requests, K. Barėnas inserts his insights on exile and writing. Respectfully, with tact but together with gentle humor, he communicates with the writers. In reading those letters, one can feel the big workload, the lack of time and, in the latest letters, some reminders about tiredness.Despite the moderate amount of the analyzed egodocuments, one can feel the deposition of K. Barėnas’s personality.[straipsnis ir santrauka lietuvių kalba; santrauka anglų kalba]

Egodokumentų tyrimai: senos erdvės – nauji horizontai
[full article and abstract in Lithuanian; summary in English]
Based on the analysis of project results, the article discusses the achievements in the study of egodocuments over the past five years and the prospective study fields emerging in the European research area and Lithuania. In Lithuania, attention to egodocuments increased in around 2010 after a new term – egodocument – was introduced to scientific discourse; its conceptual adaptation led to more systematic studies of writings in the first person. In addition to the studies published in the framework of the project Egodocumental Heritage of Lithuania (LEGODOK), the project Creation of the Private Written Lithuanian Language Database (AKdb) implemented by the Institute of the Lithuanian Language and its partners deserves a special mention; in the frames of the project, the data of the written Lithuanian language (letters, diaries, memoirs, inscriptions on photographs) are collected and digitalised electronically. In Lithuania, the general research tendency can be considered the studies on self-consciousness and identity expression of the elite (Radziwiłł, Römer) as well as the attempts to add an increasing number of sources to the research field, e.g. memory books (album amicorum) telling about oneself, i.e. the creating person. Traditionally, the so called ‘from below’ studies focusing on non-elite social groups are strong in Lithuania. They include the research of written culture and mentality change associated with national revival related problems. They consider egodocuments (including letters) and their dissemination in the period of early modernity a public rather than private means of communication. Inter-disciplinary ‘from below’ studies are viable in Northern Europe (Anna Kuismin). In Western Europe the Villa Vignoni forum, bringing together Italian, French and German researchers (Giovanni Ciappelli, François-Josephas Ruggiu, Claudia Ulbrich), inspired solid publications dedicated to personal, familial and communal identities in a cross-cultural perspective. The published egodocumentary history sources and the fundamental research carried out in Poland often extend to the issues of old Lithuania (Adam Kucharski, Stanisław Roszak). Therefore, with certain research tendencies coming to the fore, the article makes a conclusion that by expanding international cooperation with our neighbours, the research of the egodocumentary heritage of Lithuania as expression of linguistic identity as well as cross-cultural research of multilingualism and dissemination of multidimensional identity in the modernising society should be continued in Lithuania.[straipsnis ir santrauka lietuvių kalba; santrauka anglų kalba]

[full article and abstract in Lithuanian; summary in English]
The stories and recollections of rural districts in Panevėžys County of 1927 in the Lithuanian Central State Historical Archives are analysed as a locus of expression of the local mentality. A deep memoir layer of rural district stories has provided different interpretations when assessing the history, background of the restoration of the municipal activities, the enemies and allies of the independence, and comprehending the limits of own power and actions performed. The aspects of the local mentality reflected in the stories of the rural districts add to the understanding of different assessments of the restoration of the Lithuanian independence in the localities (rural districts). They are aimed at analysing the situation in the specific location in detail and still taking the experiences of people in the rural districts into consideration. Thoughts expressed in the stories of rural districts have often been based on the municipal relevance. The expression of the local patriotism remains the main feature in many descriptions in the stories of rural district municipalities in Panevėžys district. The stories were aimed at convincing the general public that the restoration of the Lithuanian independence was attained through the united forces and that the supporters and principal sponsors were the intellectuals in the rural district municipalities.[straipsnis ir santrauka lietuvių kalba; santrauka anglų kalba]
