    No full text

    No full text

Which theories have a measurement problem?

    No full text
International audienceAbstract It is shown that any theory that has certain properties has a measurement problem, in the sense that it makes predictions that are incompatible with measurement outcomes being absolute (that is, unique and non-relational). These properties are Bell Nonlocality, Information Preservation, and Local Dynamics. The result is extended by deriving Local Dynamics from No Superluminal Influences, Separable Dynamics, and Consistent Embeddings. These results are achieved using a framework of \textit{perspectival theories} that generalizes the notion of a Heisenberg cut beyond quantum theory. As well as explaining why the existing Wigner's-friend-inspired no-go theorems hold for quantum theory, the results also shed light on whether a future theory of physics might overcome the measurement problem. In particular, they suggest the possibility of a theory in which absoluteness is maintained, but without rejecting relativity theory (as in Bohm theory) or embracing objective collapses (as in GRW theory)

This thesis focuses on verbo-cultural palimpsests (VCPs), linguistic forms based on thecreative transformation of existing phraseological sequences or cultural references, as in Je dépense donc je suis. Descartes de crédit. Drawing on linguistic, discursive, and culturalresources, VCPs exhibit a particular kind of opacity for non-native learners. The objective of this research is twofold: on the one hand, to analyze the linguistic, cultural, and formalcharacteristics of VCPs using an authentic corpus collected from French-language media; on the other hand, to explore their didactic potential in the context of teaching and learning French as a foreign language.Situated within the field of phraseodidactics, this study is based on a virtual pedagogicalprogram composed of six workshops, implemented with a group of learners, mainly Spanish speakers, ranging from levels B1 to C2. Using an action-research methodology, the study analyzes the processes of comprehension, interpretation, and production of VCPs by combining quantitative and qualitative data drawn from evaluations, workshop transcripts, and learner productions. The results show that certain factors, such as linguistic proficiency, active engagement with Francophone culture, and professional orientation, influence learners’ ability to understand VCPs. Moreover, the geocultural anchoring of the sequences plays a decisive role in their reception. Finally, the pedagogical framework fostered the development of an interpretative phraseological competence, as evidenced by the creation of original VCPs and their reinvestment beyond the learning context.

The dynamic sketch map to support reflection on urban flooding

    No full text
International audienceFlood risk management is a significant concern for many regions. To reduce the flood impact, it is essential to increase residents' knowledge about this risk and in its management. Despite the many tools and methods available to raise awareness of flood risk, none of them fully meet the challenges of effective communication on flood and flood management by: integrating the perspective of local people, by providing information that is clear and easy to understand, by encouraging debate, discussion and reflection and by positioning flood mitigation measure at the center (positive vision on the risk). To answer this need, this article proposes an innovative approach that combines several methods, including sketch maps, agent-based simulation, and serious games. This combination enables to benefit from these three approaches: the expressiveness of sketch maps and the ability to analyze participants' spatial representations, the capacity of agent-based simulations to aid users in comprehending complex phenomena and dynamics, and the experimental and motivational environment provided by games. To implement this approach, we developed the DYSMA model, which bridges the gap between sketch maps and agent-based simulations by integrating drawn elements as agents, providing a dynamic sketch map. Additionally, we developed the Draw and Flood game, designed to engage the general public in thinking about flood management through the use of dynamic sketch maps. This approach is applied to an illustrative application dedicated to flooding in a small French city
