Stationary and transient correlations in driven electrolytes
No full textParticle-particle correlation functions in ionic systems control many of their macroscopic properties. In this work, we use stochastic density functional theory to compute these correlations, and then we analyze their long-range behavior. In particular, we study the system's response to a rapid change (quench) in the external electric field. We show that the correlation functions relax diffusively toward the non-equilibrium stationary state and that in a stationary state, they present a universal conical shape. This shape distinguishes this system from systems with short-range interactions, where the correlations have a parabolic shape. We relate this temporal evolution of the correlations to the algebraic relaxation of the total charge current reported previously.</div
Georges Brassens antihéros de music-hall ?: Quand la performance se cache dans la musique des chansons
No full textInternational audienceAlone on stage or with a double-bassist in the semi-darkness, frozen in front of the microphone, without a word or any greeting to the audience: the common image of Brassens portrays a figure not only at odds with the usual codes of music-hall, but also far removed from the elementary habits of the singing tour or song recital. How, then, can we explain Brassens’ success on the music-hall stage? The hypothesis is that the theatri- cal and spectacular dimension of Brassens’s songs has shifted inward in two ways: firstly, in the lyrics, where Brassens’s poetic world functions as its own little thea- ter, whose codes no longer need to be externalized; and secondly, in the music, where each public appearance by Brassens is a performance in which the musician, far from replicating as closely as possible the records for which the audience has come to hear him, surprisingly re-enacts his own songs.Seul en scène ou avec contrebassiste dans la pénombre, figé devant le micro pied sur la chaise, sans un mot ni un salut au public : l’image commune de Brassens montre une figure non seulement aux antipodes des codes usuels du music-hall mais aussi très à distance des habitudes élémentaires du tour de chant ou récital de chansons. Comment dans ces conditions expliquer le succès de Brassens sur les scènes de music-hall ? On fera l’hypothèse que toute la dimension théâtrale et spectaculaire des chansons de Brassens s’est déplacée vers l’intérieur, et ceci à double titre : dans les textes d’une part, où le monde poétique de Brassens fonctionne de lui-même comme un petit théâtre dont les codes n’ont plus besoin de s’externaliser ; dans la musique d’autre part, car chaque apparition publique de Brassens est bien une performance dans laquelle le musicien, loin de répliquer au plus proche les disques pour lesquels le public est venu l’entendre, se joue étonnamment de ses propres chansons
Experiencing life and belonging to nature with Focusing
No full textInternational audienceWe are currently witnessing a waste of life coupled with an extinction of experience. But in the midst of these afflicting times, have you noticed that life continues to manifest within you? Have you ever noted how your body reacts to the situations you experience? Have you ever remarked the precision with which it tells you what a situation means at any given moment? And what direction to take, integrating everything that makes you who you are and everything that is important to you as a person? Have you ever felt in your body the intensity and appropriateness of the contrast that arises when you think of a place in nature that you cherish, while evoking a place that repels you? Whether the feelings are localized or more diffuse, powerful or subtle, familiar or completely new, they tell us that our body ‘knows’ what's going on for us at any given moment and, if we give ourselves the means to listen, invites us to trust it and take action. This is the basic principle of Focusing, a mind-body approach to ‘problem solving’ based on the overall feeling produced by a particular situation, developed by philosopher and psychotherapist Eugene T. Gendlin. This approach builds on some of the foundations of ecopsychology, such as the primacy of lived experience and contact with living things in achieving health that connects inner and earthly life. In this paper, we argue that Focusing allows us to experience life and belonging to nature as a more-than-human world. As such, it is fully suited to fostering our first person understanding of the sentient, psychological, and spiritual interrelationship between us as human beings and the other beings of the natural world. In this article, we introduce Gendlin and Focusing, a meaningful approach that celebrates life and the vitality of each individual. We discuss its properties and strengths through the prism of ecopsychological concerns
Construire des outils de connaissance des activités de justice : automatiser l’analyse des décisions de justice ? L’expérience e-Juris
No full textInternational audienceLa loi du 7 octobre 2016 a suscité ou renforcé des projets d’exploitation des décisions de justice, étendus aux décisions de première instance annoncées comme accessibles et gratuites dans un avenir relativement proche. C’est dans ce mouvement qu’ont été développés des outils algorithmiques d’analyse de décisions. Bien avant ce mouvement, le monde de la recherche sur le droit avait développé des analyses de contentieux, restées assez peu nombreuses. Les questions posées sont variables : quels sont les demandeurs et défendeurs, quelle partie obtient gain de cause, quels arguments sont développés, quelles solutions sont retenues… ? Ces travaux produisent des connaissances nouvelles sur l’activité juridictionnelle à partir de l’analyse des (ir)régularités contenues dans les décisions. On peut également envisager que ces régularités soient utilisées pour fournir des outils d’aide à la décision. Dès lors que ces outils prétendent influencer les décisions de justice, leur fiabilité devait être interrogée. Par ailleurs, le recours à ces méthodes dans une perspective de connaissance, séduisant, devait être testé. C’est à ces préoccupations qu’a tenté de répondre le groupe de travail interdisciplinaire « e-Juris » et ce sont ses conclusions, très mitigées, que cet article retrace
Agricultural Productivity Growth and Deforestation in the Tropics
No full textWe analyze the impact of agricultural productivity growth on tropical deforestation. Our dynamic model of forest-to-farmland conversion incorporates costs and market constraints on agricultural output, emphasizing that productivity growth, rather than its absolute level, shapes deforestation patterns. The model predicts that rising agricultural productivity, reflected by declining fertilizer price growth, has an ambiguous effect on deforestation at the local level. Using tropical forest loss data (2000-2022) and fertilizer price variations, we find a negative relationship between fertilizer price growth and deforestation, particularly in regions with high market potential. We find that the effect of fertilizer price growth on deforestation is much larger than the effect of output prices growth
Des meuniers aux charbonniers. Le site du moulin des Ecouges (Isère, Vercors), du XIIe au XIXe siècle
No full textInternational audienceImplanté à 1000 m d’altitude, dans une vallée du Vercors difficilement accessible et qui fut du XIIe au XVe s. occupée par un monastère de moines chartreux, le moulin des Écouges a fait l’objet de deux campagnes de fouilles programmées en 2019 et 2021. Elles ont révélé, pour la première fois en France, un moulin à grains à roue horizontale médiéval, édifié au XIIe s. et détruit aux XVe-XVIe s., dont la surface et la qualité de construction s’avèrent bien éloignées des petits moulins médiévaux fouillés jusqu’ici dans notre pays, et qui révèlent la puissance des Chartreux dès l’origine de leur ordre. Le site a également fourni un entrepôt à charbon de bois, qui alimentait au début du XIXe siècle une fonderie de canons et qui a livré un abondant mobilier céramique, offrant ainsi l’occasion d’observer le quotidien d’une communauté de charbonniers au seuil de l’époque contemporaine
A new approach to agglomeration problems

We define a new transferable utility game, considering there is no restriction on the transfer of benefits between firms. We prove that the core of this game is non-empty, provide an expression for it, and an axiomatic characterization. We also study several core allocations, selected by means of a certain bankruptcy problem
