Aim of this study is to investigate whether unemployed women of the Messinia prefecture
participate in training programs and to what extent they believe that these programs are helpful in
finding a job. This research also focuses on familiarization of women with computers, internet,
and foreign languages, as well as on the strategies that women have been applying in order to
acquire computer skills. Moreover, this research aims at examining whether factors such as educational level, marital status, length of unemployment, and familiarization with modern
technologies, do affect unemployed women’s decision to participate in training programs, as
well as to what extent the above factors affect women’s opinion with regard to the effectiveness
of training programs in securing a job.
This study constitutes part of a wider research undertaken by TEI of Kalamata within the
context of the research project “ARCHIMEDES”, which is funded by the Operational Program for
Education and Initial Vocational Training (EPEAEK). This research is titled: “Research on women
employment in the Messinia prefecture and design of a model for integration – reintegration of
women in the labor market”
The impact of migration on local labour market and infrastructure in Greece
Migration is a growing global phenomenon, which has a tremendous impact on the demography,
culture, economy and politics of every country.
Until recently, Greece was a country of sending labour force. In particular, during the period
1955-1975, a significantly important outflow of home labour force was noted. However, the last
decades, the flow of the migratory waves has changed radically. Since the decade of 1970, the
inflow of foreigners’ labour force appeared in Greece for the first time. The evolutions, though, that
were observed in the 90’s in Greece are particularly important and without historical precedent.
The present paper will study the impact of migration on local labour market and
infrastructure in Greece. The structure of the paper is as follows. First, some brief background
information on immigration levels and policies in Greece will be provided. The issue of how
migration affects labour market conditions and considers changes in the migrants’ position in
the labour market and infrastructure in Greece over time will then be clarified. Finally, some
important findings and concluding remarks will be presented
In this study we show that a random walk model with drift and first order
autocorrelated errors, AR (1), behaves like an ARIMA (1, 1, Ο). The last one is
extracted from the unrestricted model of the Augmented Dickey Fuller test using
as an explanatory variable a lag of order one difference of the series under
consideration when ΗΟ is true. Through Monte Carlo simulations we show that
when the population model is a random walk with moderate AR (1) autocorrelation
in the errors we have a high type II error either in small or large samples. Thus we
are accepting as a population model the random walk with unfortunately
uncorrelated errors. This causes problems at the stage of making predictions when
constructing prediction intervals of the series we use 2 standard deviations of the
forecast error above and below the predicted value. More specifically, the actual
probability the prediction interval to include the real future value is really smaller
than the nominal one of 95.44% even if the number of forecasting periods ahead is
relatively small compared to the sample size we are using

A strategic approach for the effective contribution of tertiary institutions in regional growth: the case of the project management departrment of the Technological Educational Institution of Larissa
Tertiary Education Institutions practice an appreciable developmental effect, particularly within
the geographic region in which they operate. However, in the case of Greek Tertiary Institutions,
there is a general concern regarding their capability to correspond sufficiently in the requirements
of their «third role», which refers not only to teaching and research, but also to regional development.
The process of a systemic approach will determine the interaction between the region of
Thessaly and the Department of Project Management of the Technological Education Institution of
Larissa. Therefore, this paper aims to assess whether the Department of project Management
contributes in the economic and social growth and development of the region, by proposing and
implementing flexible organizational structures and specialized strategies
The Institutions of higher education contribute in social, cultural and economic growth of the
regions in which they are located. Local society however in Greece is interested mainly for the
existence of a higher education institution in its region as a pole of attraction of students that
stimulate the income of various sectors of economic activity. The paper focuses on the
examination of the effects of student expenditure on the regional produced product and more
specifically the effect of the existence of the TEI of Western Macedonia on the GDP of the
Prefectures of the Region of Western Macedonia was examined. It was found that the indirect
contribution of TEI in the economy of the region is roughly 30% of the direct contribution, or the
total increase of regional GDP from the student expenditure is 30% higher than the direct and
observed contribution. The highest total contribution of TEI (direct and indirect) in the GDP, is in
the Prefecture of Kozani, amounting to 6,35% of the total produced product and follows the
Prefecture of Kastoria with 5,16%, the Prefecture of Florina with 3,42% and finally the Prefecture
of Grevena with 1,75%, while the contribution of TEI in the Region as total amounts to 5,21%.
The highest effect on the economic activity of the Region of Western Macedonia is on the
sector of real estate rentals, while the sectors of hotels and restaurants, foods, drinks and
tobacco and transports follow. The sectors that are influenced least by the existence of TEI are
mines, forestry, livestock-farming, the sectors of various cultivations and fishery
Analyzing students' attitudes towards the adoption of e-learning - the case of Technical Vocational Schools
In response to the educational opportunities made available by dramatic technological innovations,
e-learning practices are being adopted in secondary education to help the next generation of
school children to be better educated and better prepared for the evolving demands of the new
economy. However the adoption of e-learning in Greece is still in its infancy. Knowing exactly how
students perceive e-learning and web based technologies is an important first step. The survey aims
at assessing the experience, skills and computer efficacy of students of Technical Vocational
Schools, measuring their attitudes towards the use of education technology and distinguishing
obstacles and drivers for the development of an e-learning environment

great number of opportunities worldwide , we will try to examine the adνantages of
investments in international financial assets and briefly discuss the literature and some
empirical evidence about international inνestments. Especially we will examine surveys
about international diversification, the methods of hedging exchange risk using
deriνatives and finally by using a series of data from different financial markets we will
prove statistically the benefits of investing internationally by reducing the inνestment risk.
The findings of our survey confirm and complement the existing surveys in the
appropriateness of international investments in terms of better return-risk trade off
