Sources of project tool misalignment in multistakeholder projects
No full textInter-organizational collaboration is recognized as one of the key success factors for complex project delivery. Simultaneously, tools and technologies play a growing role in project management and operations, especially as project work is increasingly being conducted in hybrid and remote settings. These tools play a critical role in achieving productive collaboration, and when properly selected, implemented, and aligned, they offer opportunities for increased project productivity. However, the selection of correct tools can be tricky, and at worst, tools can end up hampering project operations. This study empirically identifies key project tool-related challenges and clarifies the role of tools in relation to stakeholder collaboration. The results emphasize two-dimensional alignment for the selection and implementation of tools: by aligning with both project objectives and the teams executing the project, tools are better set to fulfill their role as a link that supports project organization toward its goals and fosters productive inter-organizational collaboration
“After a while, it became a normal thing”: Swedish children’s experiences of everyday life in school during the Covid-19 pandemic
No full textO artigo investiga como crianças suecas (com idades entre 8 e 12 anos) com deficiência intelectual, transtorno do espectro autista e/ou transtorno de déficit de atenção e hiperatividade descrevem a sua situação escolar durante a pandemia da COVID-19. Uma perspetiva socioecológica é usada para compreender como a pandemia se propagou e se tornou parte da vida quotidiana das crianças. Os dados consistem em oito entrevistas qualitativas com crianças. As entrevistas foram analisadas usando uma abordagem de teoria fundamentada. O que mais se destaca nas principais preocupações das crianças sobre a vida escolar durante a pandemia é a mudança. Os resultados mostram que, embora o ambiente pandémico vivido pelas crianças seja descrito principalmente em termos desafiadores, a pandemia também lhes proporcionou algumas oportunidades — a escola ficou mais calma, por exemplo, ou as restrições da doença proporcionaram oportunidades para fazer uma pausa.The article investigates how Swedish children (aged 8–12) with intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder and/or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder describe their school-situation during the COVID-19 pandemic. A socio-ecological perspective is used to understand how the pandemic trickled down and became part of children’s everyday life. The data consists of eight qualitative interviews with children. The interviews were analysed using a grounded theory approach. Most prominent in the children’s main concerns about pandemic school life is change. The results show that although the children’s lived pandemic environment is mainly described in challenging terms, the pandemic also provided some opportunities for them – school becoming calmer, for example, or the disease restrictions providing opportunities to take a time-out
Selecting Virtues: Philia and Relational Flourishing

This paper has a threefold aim. First, it seeks to unveil the circularity in Hursthouse’s account of Eudaimonist Virtue Ethics (EVE). To this end, I show that by framing eudaimonia as acting virtuously and virtues as stable dispositions of character needed to flourish, Hursthouse ultimately commits to a circular movement, where each concept is defined in terms of the other. In particular, virtues are not only seen as conducive to flourishing but also normatively constitutive of eudaimonia. I then demonstrate this circularity in action by discussing Rosalind McDougall’s application of EVE to reproductive ethics, particularly with respect to parents selecting for a deaf child. Second, I argue that this circularity stems from an individualistic conception of flourishing, which is rooted in a phenomenological interpretation of zoon politikon, leaving no intermediate space between means (i.e., virtues) and the end (i.e., eudaimonia). Third, I propose a relational conception of eudaimonia, defining it as acting virtuously with and for others. I further contend that the normative structure of philia can lead to a linear relationship between virtues and flourishing, providing an intermediate selection criterion for virtues.Este artigo possui um duplo objetivo. Primeiro, desvelar a circularidade presente na abordagem de Rosalind Hursthouse sobre a ética das virtudes eudaimonista. Para isso, demonstrarei que, ao definir a eudaimonia como agir virtuosamente e as virtudes como disposições de caráter estáveis necessárias para florescer, Hursthouse acaba comprometendo-se com um movimento circular, em que cada um dos conceitos é definido em termos do outro. Argumentarei que essa limitação pode ser atribuída a uma concepção individualista de florescimento, derivada de uma interpretação fenomenológica do zōon politikón, que não deixa espaço intermediário entre os meios e o fim. Em segundo lugar, defenderei uma concepção relacional de eudaimonia, que a define como agir virtuosamente com e para os outros. Sustentarei, ainda, que a estrutura normativa da philia pode estabelecer uma relação linear entre virtudes e florescimento, fornecendo um critério intermediário para a seleção das virtudes
Rescuing Democratic Representation From Equal Influence
No full textThis article aims to contribute to the debate on democratic representation by critically engaging with Niko Kolodny’s The Pecking Order, particularly his justification of democracy through the principle of Equal Influence. While Kolodny argues that representative democracy can avoid relations of inferiority if citizens retain sufficient control over decision-making, this analysis questions whether his model adequately captures the dynamic, interactive, and reletional nature of representation. Moreover, it is argued that Kolodny’s framework overlooks the democratic value of diverse forms of political representation that go beyond strictly promissory conception, such as anticipatory, gyroscopic, and surrogate representation. By drawing on deliberative democratic theory, this article highlights a tension between Kolodny’s egalitarian justification of democracy and richer conceptions of representation, calling for a broader appreciationof the complexity and normative potential of representative practices
Relations of Inferiority and Structural Domination
No full textThis paper challenges the sharp opposition Niko Kolodny draws between relations of inferiority and neo-republican domination in his book The Pecking Order: Social Hierarchy as a Philosophical Problem (2023). I argue that if we adopt a structural account of domination, such as that proposed by Dorothea Gädeke (2020), some of Kolodny’s objections to neo-republicanism lose their force. Gädeke’s framework provides a way of articulating domination as neither “Will Universal” nor “Possibilist”, since, in her view, the mere fact that any other person can interfere with you at any time and at will does not in itself constitute an instance of domination, unless it is based on a structural (robust) asymmetry of power. While this suggests a significant overlap between relations of inferiority and neo-republican domination, an important distinction remains: Gädeke’s structural domination is more apt in capturing claims against inferiority in the absence of an identifiable superior individual, what she calls instances of systematic disempowerment, which are crucial to understanding the wrongness of power asymmetries
Reverberações da saudade. Uma exploração da identidade cultural galega na revista Nós (1920–1935)
No full textThis article reflects on the appropriation of saudade (longing) as a cultural and identity element in the Nós journal, during the period between 1920 and 1935. By relating the Galician and Portuguese contexts, this study discerns how saudade has become a symbolic capital of considerable impact. In this regard, the research emphasises the influence of saudade on both literature and the formation of a Galician cultural identity, highlighting the importance of Nós as a vehicle for political and aesthetic expression.Este artigo reflete sobre a apropriação da saudade como elemento cultural e identitário na revista Nós, durante o período entre 1920 e 1935. Ao relacionar os contextos galego e português, este estudo discerne sobre como a saudade se tornou um capital simbólico de certo impacto. Nesse sentido, a investigação sublinha a influência da saudade tanto na literatura como na formação de uma identidade cultural galega, destacando a importância da revista Nós como meio de expressão política e estética

Comunidades linguístico-culturais e fronteiras estatais: o caso da raia galego-portuguesa
No full textÉ sabido que os limites político-administrativos entre os estados rara vez coincidem com as fronteiras linguísticas e culturais. O caso da Galiza e do norte de Portugal não constitui uma exceção: desde os primórdios da história, e durante muito tempo, mesmo bem depois da emergência do Condado Portucalense no reino galego, pôde verificar-se até hoje a continuidade cultural e linguística nas duas margens da fronteira estatal. Tomando como ponto de partida dados socioeconómicos, etnográficos, históricos, etc., pretendemos ilustrar, portanto, essa velha identidade cultural, espelhada de maneira recíproca nos dois lados da raia e nomeadamente no mundo rural.It is well known that the political-administrative limits between states rarely coincide with linguistic and cultural borders. The case of Galicia and northern Portugal is not an exception: since the beginning of history, and for a long time, even well after the emergence of the Portucalense County from the Galician kingdom, cultural and linguistic continuity can still be seen on both sides of the state border to this day. Taking socio-economic, ethnographic, historical data, etc. as a starting point, we therefore intend to illustrate this old cultural identity, mirrored in a reciprocal manner on both sides of the divide, particularly in the rural world

A Revista Configurações: uma síntese de revisitação
No full text"No quadro da comemoração dos 20 anos de percurso da Revista Configurações, a atual diretora e colega Ana Maria Brandão solicitou-me amavelmente que, como primeiro diretor, elaborasse um texto-síntese de revisitação dos números da Revista, para o que me propus destacar os diversos contributos de colegas a nível (inter)nacional. Se não são citados especificamente os números da Revista, seus títulos e autores/as dos artigos, tal deve-se à dificílima tarefa na componente bibliográfica e sobretudo ao limitado número de caracteres. Porém, pelos temas e ideias-síntese apresentados, é possível inferir os respetivos autores/as, podendo os seus artigos ser consultados, já que todos os números da revista estão acessíveis online. Sem deixar de plasmar aqui e ali uma marca própria nalguns temas também por mim tratados, procurei retraduzir e ser fiel ao conjunto dos conteúdos substantivos dos autores/as, os quais vieram enriquecer a própria Revista e seus leitores/as.
