Proposing a Method and Framework for Investigating Creativity in Fashioning Self-Identity
No full textEste artigo desenvolve e propõe um método, denominado “Diário do Look do Dia”, que pode ser utilizado para analisar os processos criativos de um indivíduo no contexto do design (ou de outras áreas). O foco incide sobre atividades quotidianas relacionadas com a moda, como o ato de vestir-se e o uso de roupas nas atividades diárias e nas interações com o ambiente envolvente. O artigo fundamenta-se em teorias da criatividade, apresentando as principais abordagens sobre o modo como esta tem sido compreendida e a sua relação com o design de moda, com especial destaque para a teoria da criatividade distribuída de Vlad Petre Glăveanu (2014). O diário utilizado no estudo foi desenvolvido a partir deste conceito, nas teorias do corpo modelado de Joanne Entwistle (2015) e na metodologia dos estudos do guarda-roupa (Fletcher & Klepp, 2017). Os dados empíricos foram recolhidos junto de indivíduos que participaram num estudo qualitativo concebido para esse efeito, tendo sido selecionados três estudos de caso para este artigo. A análise das respostas dos participantes evidencia os elementos sociais, emocionais e contextuais que influenciam o acesso de um indivíduo ao seu potencial criativo, permitindo a proposta de um conjunto de condições que favorecem ou limitam o uso da criatividade. O método apresentado constitui uma ferramenta de investigação qualitativa que pode ser aprimorada, debatida, desenvolvida e adaptada como inspiração interdisciplinar em áreas como a investigação do consumidor, a moda, o design ou outras práticas afins. O principal objetivo foi formular uma proposta metodológica que envolva os participantes nos seus contextos emocionais, sociais e materiais, em diferentes momentos da sua vida quotidiana.In this article, a method is developed and proposed, dubbed the "Outfit of the Day Logbook", which can be used to analyze an individual's creative processes within their design context (or other). In this article, the focus is on everyday fashion activities such as getting dressed and wearing clothes through daily activities and interactions with the surrounding environment. The paper builds on ideas from theories of creativity, introducing primary theories on how creativity has been understood and how it relates to fashion design, drawing inspiration from Vlad Petre Glăveanu's (2014) theory of distributed creativity. Based on the concept of "distributed creativity", theories of the fashioned body by Joanne Entwistle (2015) and the methodology of wardrobe studies (Fletcher & Klepp, 2017), the logbook was developed for this paper. Empirical data were collected from individuals who participated in the qualitative study for which the logbook was constructed, with three case studies selected for this paper. Analyzing the respondents' answers highlights the social, emotional, and contextual elements that influence an individual's accessibility to their creative potential, which enabled the proposal of a framework of conditions that either foster or limit their use of creativity. The method serves as a qualitative research tool that can be refined, discussed, further developed, and used as interdisciplinary inspiration in other fields, such as consumer research, fashion, design, or other related practices. Reconfigurable Clothing: Unveiling the Possibilities of Adaptable and Multifunctional Garments
No full textThis study examines a collection of garments designed to be modified and adapted by the user, referred to as “reconfigurable”. Through bibliographic research, it identifies and analyses the characteristics of different types of reconfigurable garments — namely reversible, modular, transformable, and technological — establishing comparisons with the concepts of “modularity” described by Pine (1992/1994) and with examples of designers and brands that have adopted this approach, either as a permanent strategy or through individual pieces. Hussein Chalayan, Arket, Osklen, Adidas, Cukovy, and Cointel are among the examples considered. Besides enabling the creation of versatile and personalised pieces, the results indicate that reconfiguration contributes to building a more durable and therefore more sustainable wardrobe. In other words, this approach enhances the value of clothing to the user. User interaction with the pieces is fundamental to their transformation, fostering a closer relationship between the wearer and their garments and thereby strengthening this bond. Analysis of the term “reconfiguration” highlights its significance in designating a process of change and adaptation. The objective of this study is to conceptualise and classify types of reconfigurable clothing to justify the proposed terminology. Furthermore, it reveals the relevance of this concept for circular and adaptable fashion. The prefix “re-” conveys the idea of renewal and circularity, intrinsically linked to the four essential practices of sustainable fashion: rethink, reduce, reuse, and recycle.Este estudo investiga um grupo de roupas projetadas para serem modificadas e adaptadas pelo usuário, denominadas “reconfiguráveis”. A pesquisa, de natureza bibliográfica, identificou e analisou as características de diferentes tipos de roupas reconfiguráveis (reversíveis, modulares, transformáveis e tecnológicas), estabelecendo comparações com os conceitos de “modularidade” elencados por Pine (1992/1994), e com a exposição de exemplos de estilistas e marcas que utilizaram esta abordagem, seja como uma abordagem permanente ou como peças avulsas. Hussein Chalayan, Arket, Osklen, Adidas, Cukovy e Cointel são alguns exemplos de marcas e estilistas. Os resultados indicam que a reconfiguração, além de permitir a criação de peças versáteis e personalizadas, contribui para a construção de um guarda-roupa mais duradouro e, portanto, mais sustentável. Ou seja, esta abordagem permite que a roupa seja mais valorizada pelo usuário. A interação do usuário com as peças é fundamental para a sua transformação, o que promove uma relação mais próxima entre a pessoa e suas roupas, fortalecendo esse vínculo. A análise do termo "reconfiguração" revela sua importância para designar um processo de mudança e adaptação. O objetivo deste estudo é conceituar e classificar os tipos de roupas reconfiguráveis, de modo a justificar a denominação proposta. Ademais, revela sua importância para a moda circular e adaptável. O prefixo "re-" sugere a ideia de renovação e circularidade, estando intrinsecamente ligado às quatro práticas necessárias da moda sustentável: repensar, reduzir, reutilizar e reciclar
Cadeiras Vazias: Media, Movimento e Liberação
No full textThis article critically examines how Palestinian children navigate and resist the ongoing genocide in Gaza through digital media, challenging global spectatorship. Through a content analysis of over 300 social media videos, I explore how these children use digital platforms not only for survival but as powerful tools for education and resistance against the dehumanisation imposed by a Zionist settler-colonial regime. Methodologically, this study analyses social media content created by Palestinian children, supplemented by observations of trends and narrative strategies across popular platforms, primarily TikTok and Instagram. This approach provides a nuanced understanding of how these children, acting as both journalists and educators, assert their agency, document their experiences, and resist systemic oppression through digital media. The paper also critiques the global phenomenon of capitalist spectatorship, wherein audiences engage more with the spectacle of suffering than with meaningful action. It interrogates the ethical implications of this passive consumption of suffering and the challenges of fostering genuine solidarity in a digital landscape dominated by "clicktivism" and superficial engagement. By situating Palestinian children's narratives within this broader context, the paper calls for a shift from passive spectatorship to active engagement, urging the global community to move beyond observation and take concrete action in response to their voices and needs.Este artigo explora como as crianças palestinianas e as suas comunidades de pais e familiares utilizam os meios digitais para documentar as suas experiências durante o genocídio em curso em Gaza. Com base num envolvimento contínuo com testemunhos partilhados publicamente, incluindo vídeos e publicações divulgados por crianças, famílias, fontes de notícias locais e conhecidos que residem nos territórios ocupados, o artigo reflete sobre como estas narrativas funcionam como formas de testemunho resiliente, sobrevivência e educação na ausência de escolaridade formal. Em vez de abordar este material através de uma lente distanciada, o artigo adota uma metodologia de testemunho ético, baseada na posição incorporada do investigador como académico palestiniano. As expressões digitais examinadas não são tratadas como pontos de dados isolados, mas como parte de um arquivo coletivo mais amplo que responde ao apagamento e à desumanização dos palestinianos. Em consonância com o Artigo 12 da Convenção das Nações Unidas sobre os Direitos da Criança, que afirma o direito das crianças de expressar as suas opiniões em assuntos que as afetam, este artigo posiciona esses testemunhos como atos de pedagogia pública, ou seja, lições de luto, memória e resistência. O artigo critica a economia global da espectatorialidade, na qual o sofrimento palestiniano é frequentemente consumido, mas raramente levado a ação. Em vez disso, argumenta que as práticas de memória, documentação e resistência das crianças palestinianas constituem um currículo de testemunho, que desafia os apagamentos coloniais, redefine a prática educativa e exige que testemunhar se torne uma responsabilidade política e pedagógica
Anthropologies of Social Life and the Critique of Relations of Inferiority
No full textIn this paper I will argue that Niko Kolodny, in The Pecking Order: Social Hierarchy as a Philosophical Problem, provides necessary but not sufficient theoretical tools to distinguish between legitimate and objectionable relationships of hierarchy, due to the tacit individualistic anthropological assumptions underlying his approach. I will therefore highlight the unilaterality of an individualistic anthropological paradigm and emphasize the need for a relational account of human subjectivity in order to further problematize the nature and the persistence of oppressive relationships of social hierarchy.
Intergenerational Justice through the Rejection of Western Heritage: Materialistic Values, Depopulation and Degrowth against Extinction
No full textThis work intends to address the issue of intergenerational and climate justice in the context of a possible rejection, mainly at a socio-cultural level, of the Western heritage. Starting from the reflections on the theme of the Anthropocene and of a new conception of human responsibility, different from that primarily linked to individual freedom, here we propose to analyze three aspects of this possible rejection, which together can contribute to fostering the mitigation of climate change and a livable future for the new generations. The first aspect is cultural transition from post-materialistic to materialistic values, The second one concerns the issue of contrasting overpopulation, and the third one, to be pursued jointly with the others, is that of “degrowth”, above all in terms of consumption. All these aspects, which must be fostered both on a cultural and institutional level, make up a process that we consider to be already underway and which we believe will allow a sort of intergenerational justice and a planetary future far from the most extreme consequences for humanity, from lack of livability to extinction
A Bodily Normativity for Neoliberal Work: A Social Philosophy Approach
No full textLabor and the workplace have undergone profound transformations over recent decades. This paper discusses normative demands stemming from the social suffering inherent to neoliberal workplaces worldwide, while also addressing ideological resistance against institutional responses to labor abuses and domination. First, we explore the elusive nature of the stressed and exploited body at work, through a dialogue with the psychodynamic approach of Dejours a Bourdieu-inspired account of bodily domination by Moreno Pestaña and Herzog’s case for economic democracy. Second, the paper addresses new forms of labor, such as the platform and gig economy, andthe behavioral dynamics characteristic of them. It also considers social differences and inequalities as decisive factors in the concrete effects of this transformation, as well as the impact of technological design. Finally, it addresses how current forms of work organization exhibit a concretely corporeal dimension that affects the mental and physical health of workers in the form of injury, disease, exhaustion, stress, and deskilling, among others. It concludes by positing a normative response to neoliberal labor domination, at both a legal and political level

No full textO presente estudo pretende analisar o impacto que a Revolução de 25 Abril de 1974 teve no Direito Administrativo Português. Nascida da Revolução dos Cravos, a Constituição da República Portuguesa de 1976 consagrou o Estado de Direito Democrático e Social. Sendo o Direito Administrativo, na expressão de FRITZWERNER, “Direito Constitucional concretizado”, não pode aquele deixar de refletir as profundas transformações constitucionalmente consagradas. Analisa-se, assim, num primeiro momento, as transformações operadas no Direito Administrativo substantivo e adjetivo e, num segundo momento, a evolução da investigação e do ensino do Direito Administrativo em Portugal.This study aims to analyse the impact that the Revolution of 25 April, 1974 had on Portuguese Administrative Law. Born out of the Carnation Revolution, the 1976 Constitution of the Portuguese Republic enshrined the Social and Democratic Rule of Law. Since Administrative Law is, in FRITZ WERNER’s words, ‘Constitutional Law made concrete’ it cannot fail to reflect the profound transformations enshrined in the Constitution. We therefore analyse, firstly, the changes that have taken place in substantive and adjective Administrative Law and, secondly, the evolution of research and teaching in Administrative Law in Portugal
Pela lente das políticas públicas: a construção social dos antigos combatentes
No full textLa fin de la guerre coloniale a stimulé les politiques publiques en faveur des anciens combattants, même si les progrès ont été lents. Cette contribution analyse la dernière génération de ces politiques, au tournant du millénaire, et vise à identifier leur spécificité à travers une revue bibliographique et une analyse législative. Les résultats obtenus montrent que le statut des anciens combattants consacre une vision intégrée des aides et de l’appui institutionnel, contribuant de manière significative à la construction identitaire de cette catégorie sociale spécifique. Cependant, des problèmes persistent lors de la mise en œuvre des modèles d’intervention et posent des défis aux contributions des sciences sociales, notamment afin de donner la parole aux destinataires des politiques et aux autres acteurs impliqués.The end of the colonial war led to the implementation of public policies for former combatants, although the pace of progress was gradual. This contribution analyses the latest generation of these policies, at the turn of the millennium, with the objective of identifying their specificity through a bibliographical review and legislative analysis. The findings demonstrate that the Statute of Former Combatants encapsulates an integrated approach to support, encompassing both material and institutional assistance. This has played a pivotal role in shaping the identity of this particular social group. However, challenges persist in the implementation of intervention models, particularly in terms of ensuring the voices of the policy beneficiaries and other key stakeholders.O fim da Guerra Colonial (GC) impulsionou as políticas públicas destinadas aos antigos combatentes, embora com progressos lentos. A presente contribuição analisa a última geração destas políticas, na transição do milénio, propondo-se identificar a sua especificidade através de revisão bibliográfica e análise legislativa. Dos resultados apurados salienta-se que o Estatuto dos Antigos Combatentes consagra uma visão integrada dos apoios e do suporte institucional, contribuindo significativamente para a construção identitária desta categoria social específica. Na implementação dos modelos de intervenção persistem, no entanto, problemas que configuram desafios aos contributos das Ciências Sociais, nomeadamente no sentido de dar voz aos destinatários das políticas e outros atores envolvidos
Game of Thrones, o último ponto de encontro televisivo: Fantástico, humor, historicismo, violência e erotismo
No full textNuma época caraterizada pela desagregação das audiências nos media audiovisuais, Game of Thrones constituiu o último momento em existiu uma convergência global de públicos em conteúdos televisivos. O objetivo deste artigo é colocar um conjunto de hipóteses para justificar este fenómeno, a partir da análise dos principais ingredientes da série: a combinação de humor, violência e erotismo, a associação de elementos fantásticos com uma ambiência baseada em referências históricas, a presença constante da morte e o uso de cenários reais, reconhecíveis apesar da sua manipulação digital.
A trajetória particular que carateriza a relação entre a produção da HBO e a narrativa publicada em livro também interessa a este texto, sobretudo a partir do momento em que os textos de George R. R. Martin deixaram de poder constituir uma referência para o guião, porque a série ultrapassou a história relatada nos volumes publicados.In an era characterized by the disaggregation of audiences in audio-visual media, Game of Thrones was the last moment in which there was a global convergence of the public on a television content. The purpose of this text is to raise a set of hypotheses to justify this phenomenon, based on the analysis of the main ingredients of the series: the combination of humour, violence and eroticism, the association of fantastic elements with historical references and the use of real scenarios, recognizable despite their digital manipulation.
The particular trajectory that characterizes the relationship between the series and the narrative of the books is also important for this essay, especially from the moment in which George R. R. Martin's texts could not constitute a reference for the script, because the series went beyond the contents of the published volumes
