This study analyzes the role of Persaudaraan Setia Hati Terate (PSHT) as an instrument of Indonesian cultural diplomacy in Japan in the period 2014-2025. Using a qualitative approach with case studies, this study examines how PSHT has succeeded in becoming an intercultural bridge that strengthens Indonesia's soft power through the spread of pencak silat. The results show that the special Japanese branch of PSHT, which was officially established in 2017 in Osaka, has experienced significant growth with the number of members reaching 412 in 2018 and continuing to grow until 2025. PSHT's cultural diplomacy strategy of combining pencak silat with the Reog Ponorogo performance has proven effective in attracting the interest of the Japanese people, including indigenous people who actively join as members. PSHT's success is supported by the synergy between state actors such as the Indonesian Consulate General in Osaka and the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo with the Indonesian diaspora community and non-governmental organizations. PSHT's participation in various prestigious events such as UNESCO and the Indonesia-Japan Friendship Festival, as well as the holding of the PSHT Japan Cup, proves the effectiveness of pencak silat as a medium of cultural diplomacy that is able to transcend geographical and cultural boundaries. This study concludes that PSHT has succeeded in creating a positive image of Indonesia as a country with high-value cultural wealth, while strengthening the foundation of Indonesia-Japan bilateral relations through an authentic and sustainable people-to-people connection approach

    Get PDF
Maritime English is essential for safe and effective communication in the global shipping industry, particularly in multilingual crew environments. Despite its significance, many cadets struggle to master technical maritime vocabulary due to traditional teaching approaches that prioritize grammar and general conversation. This study investigates the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PBL) in enhancing cadets’ mastery of maritime English technical vocabulary at Sorong Merchant Marine Polytechnic. Using a pre-test and post-test design, 20 cadets participated in simulation-based projects involving navigation planning, safety procedures, and maritime reporting. The results revealed a significant improvement in vocabulary acquisition, with average scores rising from 50.2% in the pre-test to 78.0% in the post-test. Statistical analysis using a paired-sample t-test confirmed the significance of this increase (p < 0.05). The findings suggest that PBL not only improves technical vocabulary comprehension but also supports the development of practical communication skills, critical thinking, and teamwork key competencies in maritime professions. This study recommends the integration of PBL into Maritime English curricula to better prepare cadets for real-world operational demands

Global Citizenship Education (GCE) has emerged as an important tool to prepare students for addressing the challenges of globalized world. However, Islamic higher education institutions are still struggling in implementing GCE. This study examines the design and implementation of GCE curricula at pesantren-based universities in Indonesia. Utilizing Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory as a framework, the study focuses on how GCE is integrated into the formal, informal, and hidden curricula within pesantren’s unique ecological systems. This research which employs case study design with interactive analysis model finds that both universities participated in this research develop students’ global competencies such as critical thinking, cultural adaptability, and social responsibility. UNIDA employs an integrative approach, embedding GCE across its curriculum, whereas UDN adopts a cross-curricular strategy. Despite strengths in informal and hidden curricula within both universities, challenges remain in transitioning from teacher-centered to student-centered pedagogy in formal learning. This study underscores the moral and humanistic orientation of GCE in pesantren-based universities and sets the groundwork for future research to develop a comprehensive GCE model tailored to residential higher education institutions

The process of completing an undergraduate thesis remains a significant challenge for students, particularly in translating research data into a coherent scientific paper. Difficulties often arise in managing data obtained from questionnaires, interviews, and documentation, leading to uncertainty about the initial and subsequent steps in academic writing. This study aims to explore the challenges students face in thesis writing and the role of academic supervisors in supporting the process. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research was conducted at the Institute of Teacher Training and Technology (Institut Keguruan dan Teknologi) Larantuka, East Flores Regency, involving eighth-semester students and academic supervisors selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings indicate that students’ difficulties are influenced by internal factors including challenges in topic selection, limited references, time management, lack of research experience, and psychological barriers and external factors, such as inadequate supervision, unsupportive environments, and insufficient faculty-level management. The study concludes that thesis completion is shaped by both individual capabilities and external support systems. Strengthening academic writing practices, improving supervision strategies, and providing institutional support through workshops and structured guidance are crucial for facilitating effective and timely thesis completion. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of collaborative efforts among students, supervisors, and higher education institutions to enhance the quality and efficiency of undergraduate thesis writing

    Get PDF
This study aims to apply a syntax-based learning model using the umbrella model approach to enhance students’ cognitive learning outcomes in volleyball material. The research was conducted through two stages: a limited trial and an expanded trial. The limited trial was carried out in Class E, Semester II, involving 20 students. After revisions and improvements, the expanded trial was conducted in Class A, Semester II, with 40 students. Both trials used a one-group pretest-posttest design, and data analysis employed the Shapiro-Wilk test using SPSS Version 25. The results showed that the control class obtained an average cognitive score of 30.03 (47.50%) with a standard deviation of 1.54, while the experimental class achieved an average score of 35.02 (50.00%) with a standard deviation of 1.714. Statistical testing at a 95% confidence level revealed a significance value of 0.00 (<0.05), indicating that Ho was rejected. This means there was a significant difference between students taught using conventional methods and those taught using the syntax learning model based on the umbrella model. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the umbrella model-based syntax learning model effectively improves students’ cognitive learning outcomes in volleyball material. The model encourages active learning, structured understanding, and better mastery of cognitive concepts compared to traditional teaching methods

    Get PDF
This study investigates the effectiveness of ecological management in supporting reclamation of tailings land at the Mile Post 21 Reclamation and Biodiversity Research Center, PT Freeport Indonesia. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the research employs primary data obtained through interviews, documentation, and direct observation, complemented by secondary data from archives, reports, and company records. The analysis is guided by ISO 14001 environmental management principles, using a checklist method adapted from the Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI) to evaluate ecological, technical, socio-economic, and regulatory aspects of reclamation practices. Findings reveal that ecological management at Mile Post 21 has been highly effective, achieving more than 80% compliance with ISO 14001 indicators. Vegetation cover increased from less than 10% to over 75%, with more than 160 planted species complemented by natural succession involving over 500 species. Soil quality improved significantly, with organic carbon rising from <0.5% to 2.5%, pH levels increasing toward neutrality, and cation exchange capacity reaching medium–high levels. These changes facilitated the restoration of ecological functions and supported biodiversity recovery. Moreover, reclaimed land has been transformed into productive agricultural areas integrating crops, livestock, and aquaculture, providing socio-economic benefits for local communities and involving indigenous landowners in sustainable management. Despite technical challenges related to poor soil properties and managerial constraints such as long-term funding, the program demonstrates that ecological management, when implemented systematically under ISO 14001, can effectively restore degraded post-mining land into ecologically resilient and socially beneficial systems

    Get PDF
The sound horeg phenomenon represents a cultural practice involving the use of high-power audio systems during social events in various regions of Indonesia, particularly East Java. While it serves as an important medium of entertainment, cultural expression, and local economic activity, exposure to excessive noise dominated by low-frequency noise (LFN) and infrasound raises public health concerns. This literature review aims to evaluate current scientific evidence regarding the biological, neurophysiological, psychological, and social impacts of infrasound exposure on humans. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, and ProQuest for articles published between 2015 and 2025. The results show that moderate-intensity infrasound (≤90 dB) causes sleep disturbances, increased stress, and subtle neurological adaptations that can alter long-term cognitive function. Extreme exposure, such as to high-intensity sound (≥120 dB), carries a high risk of causing Noise-Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL), decreased memory function, and social isolation due to communication disorders. In addition to biological effects, psychological factors such as the nocebo effect play a role in the emergence of health complaints due to negative perceptions of loud noise. Therefore, a balance between preserving cultural values and protecting health needs to be achieved through sound intensity regulation, public education, and adaptive acoustic architectural desig
