    Get PDF
The impact of folate nutritional status on a variety of pregnancy outcomes has been acknowledged for a considerable period of time. Folate is increasingly recognized not just as a nutrient required to prevent megaloblastic anemia during pregnancy, but also as a vitamin necessary for reproductive health. Folate plays an important role in several metabolic processes including DNA synthesis and methylation. Changes in folate status can affect the stability and integrity of DNA or affect the methylation patterns of some tissues. Folate is required for cell division and cell maintenance, as it acts as a co-enzyme in the transfer and processing of carbon units and plays an important role in the synthesis of nucleotides (thymidine) that are essential for de novo construction or DNA repair. The purpose of this article is to examine the function of folic acid in human health especially in pregnancy and to evaluate the benefits, concerns, and epigenetic effects of maternal FA in light of recent discoveries that are crucial for the development of future research

The Effectiveness of Project-Based Learning Compared to Conventional Methods in Teaching Applied Mathematics for Ship Stability and Center of Mass Calculation

    Get PDF
Mathematics constitutes a vital foundation in maritime education, serving as an essential tool for ensuring safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability in the shipping industry. Its applications extend to critical areas such as route optimization, cost reduction, and environmental protection. Nevertheless, applied mathematics is often perceived as one of the most challenging subjects for nautical students, largely because of the difficulty in linking abstract concepts to practical, real-world maritime problems. This learning gap highlights the need for pedagogical strategies that can transform theoretical knowledge into tangible applications relevant to the maritime field. Project-Based Learning (PBL) has emerged as an effective instructional approach to address these challenges by promoting active learning, enhancing problem-solving abilities, and fostering both creativity and critical thinking. In maritime education, PBL can be particularly impactful in teaching complex topics such as ship stability, where mathematical principles play a central role. Ship stability, especially in relation to intact conditions, is crucial in vessel design and operation, as it determines a ship’s capacity to resist external forces and recover equilibrium. A key mathematical component of this process is the calculation of a vessel’s center of mass, which integrates mass distribution across structural components and loading conditions. By constructing ship models and applying coordinate-based methods, students can connect theoretical mathematics with practical stability analysis. This experiential approach not only deepens conceptual understanding but also equips future maritime professionals with the analytical competencies essential for safe and efficient operations in the global shipping environment

    Get PDF
This study examines the implementation of gamification in Pancasila Education at the senior high school level within a resource-constrained learning environment. It aims to analyze the design and implementation of gamification, identify challenges encountered during its application, and formulate optimization strategies to enhance student engagement and participation. Using a qualitative descriptive case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving one Pancasila Education teacher and eight eleventh-grade students at a public senior high school in West Sinjai Regency. Data were analyzed using an interactive thematic analysis model consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that gamification was implemented through structured stages of planning, implementation, and evaluation, incorporating game elements such as points, levels, challenges, badges, and leaderboards via digital platforms including Kahoot, ZepQuiz, Wordwall, and Bamboozle. The application of gamification enhanced student engagement across behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and social dimensions. However, several challenges emerged, including unstable internet connectivity, limited digital devices, uneven student digital literacy, and learner anxiety related to individual competition. To address these issues, teachers adapted instructional designs by employing group-based leaderboards, hybrid online–offline learning activities, and peer-assisted learning strategies. This study demonstrates that gamification can serve as an effective pedagogical approach in Pancasila Education when supported by adaptive instructional design and contextual sensitivity. The originality of this research lies in its evidence that gamification can be meaningfully implemented in value-based subjects within digitally limited school contexts

Desain of Multilevel Wall Trap For Selectivity of the Capture Spiny Lobster

    Get PDF
The challenge faced by fishermen involved in lobster fishing is the decline in population due to overfishing and unsustainable practices. Intensive lobster fishing can disrupt the balance of the ecosystem, especially if the fishing gear used is not environmentally friendly. Lost fishing gear can continue to catch lobsters and other species unintentionally, a phenomenon known as ghost fishing. The methods applied in this research include literature review and experimental design. The literature review was conducted by examining data and the development of lobster traps from research publications and various books related to fishing. The analysis of the development of existing trap designs before the modification process is a key factor in selecting the standard trap design. This aims to develop lobster traps that are selective for legal sizes. The tiered wall trap has two entrances, one at the top in the shape of a cylinder with a width of 15 cm and a length of 20 cm, cylindrical in shape and without any hole patterns. It is expected that the trapped lobsters will not be able to escape because the length of the entrance itself is longer than the leg size of the catchable lobsters, where lobsters with a carapace length of 8.3 cm have a front leg length of 8 cm, making it impossible for the caught lobsters to climb out. The design of the tiered wall trap with a perforated pattern on the base of the trap at 8 cm is expected to allow catchable lobsters to climb into the trap's mouth. The tiered walls help lobsters to easily climb up to the mouth, thereby increasing the effectiveness and selectivity of the trap for catchable-sized lobsters. However, this design still needs to be tested in lobster catching areas or in laboratory scale

    Get PDF
Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) represents the advanced stage of HIV infection and remains a major global public health challenge. Viral load testing is the main predictor of disease progression and a key indicator of antiretroviral (ARV) therapy success. In South Sumatra Province, viral load testing coverage in 2024 reached only 49%, below the national target of 75% and the global target of 95%, hindering progress toward the Ending AIDS 2030 goal. This study aimed to estimate the time to viral load suppression and identify its predictors among people living with HIV (PLHIV), complementing previous studies in areas with lower HIV prevalence. Using a retrospective cohort design and secondary data from the HIV AIDS and STI Information System Application version 2.1 (SIHA 2.1), the study analyzed 1,002 respondents through descriptive statistics and Cox regression survival analysis (Stata 15). Among the participants, 85.63% achieved viral load suppression, while 14.37% did not. Factors significantly associated with viral load suppression time included age (p = 0.016; HR 1.18; 95% CI 1.03–1.35), occupational status (p < 0.001; HR 1.63; 95% CI 1.34–1.99), ARV adherence (p = 0.007; HR 1.22; 95% CI 1.05–1.42), tuberculosis (TB) co-infection (p = 0.003; HR 1.31; 95% CI 1.09–1.57), and loss to follow-up history (p = 0.003; HR 1.41; 95% CI 1.12–1.75), after adjustment for sex and clinical stage. These findings underscore that age, employment, treatment adherence, TB co-infection, and LTFU history are key determinants of viral load suppression, emphasizing the need to strengthen treatment adherence programs to achieve the 95-95-95 targets and End AIDS 2030
