    Generalized min-up/min-down polytopes

    Consider a time horizon and a set of possible states for a given system. The system must be in exactly one state at a time. In this paper, we generalize classical results on min-up/min-down constraints for a 2-state system to an n-state system. The minimum-time constraints enforce that if the system switches to state i at time t, then it must remain in state i for a minimum number of time steps. The minimum-time polytope is defined as the convex hull of integer solutions satisfying the minimum-time constraints. A variant of minimum-time constraints is also considered, namely the no-spike constraints. They enforce that if state i is switched on at time t, the system must remain on states j ≥ i during a minimum time. Symmetrically, they enforce that if state i is switched off at time t, the system must remain on states j < i during a minimum time. The no-spike polytope is defined as the convex hull of integer solutions satisfying the no-spike constraints. For both the minimum-time polytope and the no-spike polytope, we introduce families of valid inequalities. We prove that these inequalities lead to a complete description of linear size for each polytope

    Shape sensitivity analysis of an elastic contact problem: convergence of the Nitsche based finite element approximation

    In a recent work, we introduced a finite element approximation for the shape optimization of an elastic structure in sliding contact with a rigid foundation where the contact condition (Signorini's condition) is approximated by Nitsche's method and the shape gradient is obtained via the adjoint state method. The motivation of this work is to propose an a priori convergence analysis of the numerical approximation of the variables of the shape gradient (displacement and adjoint state) and to show some numerical results in agreement with the theoretical ones. The main difficulty comes from the non-differentiability of the contact condition in the classical sense which requires the notion of conical differentiability

    Chaque note d’information présente les résultats les plus récents issus des exploitations d’enquêtes et d’études statistiques. Cette publication apporte l’éclairage de la direction de l’évaluation, de la prospective et de la performance (DEPP) à la compréhension et à l’analyse du système éducatif français. Elle est disponible en ligne, sous la forme de fichiers imprimables à télécharger, accompagnés de tableaux de données chiffrées et de graphiques.À la rentrée 2022, la taille des classes du premier degré continue de diminuer dans les écoles publiques, que ce soit dans les classes de niveau préélémentaire ou élémentaire.Cette tendance est particulièrement marquée depuis 2017, suite à la mise en oeuvre des dédoublements de classes en éducation prioritaire.Ces mesures, qui ont d’abord concerné les classes de CP-CE1, et depuis la rentrée 2020 les grandes sections de maternelle, n’ont pas retiré de moyens aux autres niveaux.Elles n’ont pas non plus été réalisées aux dépens des écoles rurales ou urbaines hors éducation prioritaire, dont le nombre d’élèves par classe diminue également.Par ailleurs, le plafonnement à 24 du nombre d’élèves par classe en grande section, CP et CE1 sur l’ensemble du territoire, amorcé en 2020, contribue aussi à alléger la taille des classes

    Influencer is the New Recommender: insights for Theorising Social Recommender Systems

    International audienceDesigning theory-driven social recommender systems (SRSs) has been a significant research challenge for over a decade. This study aims to identify behavioural factors that could improve the persuasiveness and quality of recommendations made by SRSs. Given both research streams' striking similarity, it uses the recent yet rich research on social media influencers (SMI) to inform SRS research. Drawing on 72 publications, we classified 52 independent variables into 12 categories regrouped into three broad categories that characterise the relationships between the consumer and the (i) recommender system, (ii) product or brand, and (iii) and advert. The metanalysis results determined the relative importance of each category in predicting purchase intentions, placing recommender credibility and attitude towards the recommended product or brand at the top of the charts. Our findings are expected to facilitate more refined theory-building efforts and theory-driven designs in SRS research and practice
