Vladimír Peška, gardien de la mémoire de l’exil tchèque de la seconde moitié du XXe siècle
International audienceVladimír Peška (1920-2002), one of the first refugees fleeing the communist dictatorship in Czechoslovakia following the February 1948 coup, reached France after several months spent in refugee camps in Germany. He was naturalized in 1957 and practiced multiple professions but remained, above all, very committed to his homeland through various associations and organisations of the Czechoslovak exile. This article presents the forgotten personality of Peška and proposes the first inventory of the archives deposited after his death at the Institute of Slavic Studies, focusing in particular on the egodocuments.Vladimír Peška (1920-2002), l’un des premiers réfugiés fuyant la dictature communiste en Tchécoslovaquie suite au coup d’État de février 1948, atteignit la France après plusieurs mois passés dans les camps de réfugiés en Allemagne. Naturalisé français en 1957, il exerça de multiples professions et demeura engagé pour sa patrie à travers différentes associations et structures de l’exil tchécoslovaque. L’article revient sur la personnalité oubliée de Peška et sur ses archives, en particulier les ego-documents, conservés depuis sa mort à l’Institut d’études slaves

International audienceThis paper provides an insight to the methodological and conceptual basis of the COURAGE Registry, a digital linked database prepared by the H2020 project COURAGE: Cultural Opposition – Understanding the Cultural Heritage of Dissent in the Former Socialist Countries. The Registry contains collections documenting the cultural activities of groups or individuals who were marginalized, silenced, prohibited, persecuted, or prevented to continue their activities by state socialist authorities in Eastern Europe in the second half of the 20th century.Cet article revient sur la méthode et la conception de la base de données numérique COURAGE, élaborée dans le cadre du projet H2020 COURAGE : Cultural Opposition – Understanding the Cultural Heritage of Dissent in the Former Socialist Countries. Numerical Analysis of a Structure-Preserving Space-Discretization for an Anisotropic and Heterogeneous Boundary Controlled N-Dimensional Wave Equation As a Port-Hamiltonian System
International audienceThe anisotropic and heterogeneous N -dimensional wave equation, controlled and observed at the boundary, is considered as a port-Hamiltonian system. A recent structure-preserving mixed Galerkin method is applied, leading directly to a finite-dimensional port-Hamiltonian system: its numerical analysis is carried out in a general framework. Optimal choices of mixed finite elements are then proved to reach the best trade-off between the convergence rate and the number of degrees of freedom for the state error. Exta compatibility conditions are identified for theHamiltonian error to be twice that of the state error, and numerical evidence is provided that some combinations of finite element families meet these conditions. Numerical simulations are performed in 2D to illustrate the main theorems among several choices of classical finite elementfamilies. Several test cases are provided, including non-convex domain, anisotropic or heterogeneous cases and absorbing boundary conditions

International audienceA now-classical way of meeting the increasing demand for computing speed by HPC applications is the use of GPUs and/or otheraccelerators. Such accelerators have their own memory, which is usually quite limited, and are connected to the main memorythrough a bus with bounded bandwidth. Thus, particular care should be devoted to data locality in order to avoid unnecessary datamovements. Task-based runtime schedulers have emerged as a convenient and efficient way to use such heterogeneous platforms.When processing an application, the scheduler has the knowledge of all tasks available for processing on a GPU, as well astheir input data dependencies. Hence, it is possible to produce a tasks processing order aiming at reducing the total processingtime through three objectives: minimizing data transfers, overlapping transfers and computation and optimizing the eviction ofpreviously-loaded data. In this paper, we focus on how to schedule tasks that share some of their input data (but are otherwiseindependent) on a single GPU. We provide a formal model of the problem, exhibit an optimal eviction strategy, and show thatordering tasks to minimize data movement is NP-complete. We review and adapt existing ordering strategies to this problem,and propose a new one based on task aggregation. We prove that the underlying problem of this new strategy is NP-complete,and prove the reasonable complexity of our proposed heuristic. These strategies have been implemented in the StarPU runtimesystem. We present their performance on tasks from tiled 2D, 3D matrix products, Cholesky factorization, randomized task order,randomized data pairs from the 2D matrix product as well as a sparse matrix product. We introduce a visual way to understandthese performance and lower bounds on the number of data loads for the 2D and 3D matrix products. Our experiments demonstratethat using our new strategy together with the optimal eviction policy reduces the amount of data movement as well as the totalprocessing time
Low-Energy Collisions of Zeeman-Decelerated NH Radicals with He Atoms
International audienceWe report an experimental study of state-to-state inelastic scattering of NH (X 3 sigma-, N = 0, j = 1) radicals with He atoms. Using a crossed molecular beam apparatus that combines a Zeeman decelerator and velocity map imaging, we study both integral and differential cross sections in the N = 0, j = 1 -> N = 2, j = 3 inelastic channel. We developed various new REMPI schemes to state-selectively detect NH radicals, and tested their performance in terms of sensitivity and ion recoil velocity. We found a 1 + 2 ' + 1 ' REMPI scheme using the A 3 pi <- X 3 sigma- resonant transition, which yields acceptable recoil velocities and is more than an order of magnitude more sensitive than conventional one color REMPI schemes to detect NH. We used this REMPI scheme to probe state-to-state integral and differential cross sections around the channel opening at 97.7 cm-1, as well as at higher energies where structure in the scattering images could be resolved. The experimental results are in excellent agreement with the predictions from quantum scattering calculations which are based on an ab initio NH-He potential energy surface
