The Merging of Physical and Mental Boundaries in Shelley’s Poetry and Prose
International audienceAfter a brief lexical survey of the words “boundary,” “bound(s),” “limits” and the like in Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822)’s poetry, this paper focuses on what approximates geopolitical borders in his oeuvre, including the letters and travel narratives he and his wife Mary wrote during their successive trips to the Continent. Examples include the relationship between the Irish and English in Shelley’s earlier poetry, his treatment of the Greek war of independence in Hellas (1821), the flight of Liberty westwards in the travesty Swellfoot the Tyrant (1820) and the recuperation of the ancient Greek culture in “Arethusa” (1820), as well as the Shelley’s sailing down the Rhine border and crossing the frontier between France and Switzerland in 1814. This paper aims to confront Shelley’s poetical transcendence of frontiers and limits with the reality of actual border crossing to see how poetical views and experience interact with one another
CRISMERE Chromosome Engineering in Mouse and Rat
International audienceCRISPR/Cas9 technology is a versatile tool for engineering biology that has dramatically transformed our ability to manipulate genomes. In this protocol, we use its capacity to generate two double-strand breaks simultaneously, at precise positions in the genome, to generate mouse or rat lines with deletion, inversion, and duplication of a specific genomic segment. The technic is called CRISMERE for CRISpr MEdiated REarrangement. This protocol describes the different steps to generate and validate the different chromosomal rearrangements that can be obtained with the technology. These new genetic configuration can be usefull to model rare diseases with copy number variation, understand the genomic organization or provide genetic tools (like balancer chromosome) to keep lethal mutations
Bridge enhanced ACL repair vs. ACL reconstruction for ACL tears: A systematic review and meta-analysis of comparative studies
International audienceIntroduction: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear is one of the most frequent ligamentous injuries. The gold standard for ACL tears is autograft reconstruction. However, ACL repair has regained enthusiasm with more recent results showing comparable outcomes to its reconstructive counterpart. Methods: PubMed, Cochrane, and Google Scholar (pp. 1–20) were searched until November 2022. The clinical outcomes consisted of the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score, Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS), the side-to-side difference in Anteroposterior (AP) knee laxity, the forces of the hamstring, quadriceps, and hip abduction as well as hopping tests. Results: Only two studies were included in this meta-analysis. ACL repair was shown to have better Hamstrings strength. The rest of the analyzed outcomes were comparable. Discussion: This is the first meta-analysis comparing these two treatments. The ACL repair showed no differences in muscle strength (quadriceps and hip abductors), postoperative knee scores, and knee joint laxity when compared to ACL reconstruction. However, it showed better hamstring strength. Further randomized clinical studies will be needed to compare both of these techniques

Ce dépôt contient l’ensemble des scripts R pour faire tourner Cartino1D.Cartino1D est un logiciel permettant la construction et l’application semi-automatisée d’une modélisation hydraulique 1D à partir d’un MNT à haute résolution.Cartino1D a d’abord été développé à partir de 2011 au Cerema (https://www.cerema.fr/fr/actualites/outils-phase-cartographie-directive-inondation-cartino-pc ) sous environnement Matlab/Grass pour répondre en particulier à la première phase de la Directive Inondation (2013).Dans le cadre de l'ANR PICS, la méthode a été basculée sous environnement R par l'Université Gustave Eiffel et le Cerema (https://anr.fr/Projet-ANR-17-CE03-0011, https://pics.ifsttar.fr/ ).L'originalité vient de l’automatisation de la construction/paramétrisation et du lancement de modèles hydrauliques 1D de type Mascaret ou HEC-RAS, qui est un travail généralement réalisé « manuellement » sur ces logiciels et consommateurs de temps.La configuration matérielle nécessaire est un PC windows 10 – 8 à 16 Go RAM.Il existe des dépendances par rapport à des librairies R et les codes hydrauliques Mascaret (http://www.opentelemac.org/ ) et/ou HEC-RAS (https://www.hec.usace.army.mil/software/hec-ras/ ).La phase de développement initiale étant terminée, le dépôt ne fait plus l’objet d’un suivi de modifications et les auteurs ne s’engagent pas à la prise en compte de demandes externes.Dernière mise à jour : 31/03/202
A magnetic monopole nanoantenna
International audienceMagnetic monopoles are hypothetical particles that, like electric monopoles which generate electric fields, are at the origin of magnetic fields. Despite many efforts, to date, these theoretical particles have yet to be observed. Nevertheless, many systems or physical phenomena can be related to magnetic monopole behavior. Here, we propose a new type of photonic nanoantenna behaving as a radiating magnetic monopole. We demonstrate that a half-nanoslit in a semi-infinite gold layer generates a single pole of an enhanced magnetic field at the nanoscale and that this single pole radiates efficiently in the far field. This original antenna concept opens the way to a new model system to study magnetic monopoles, to a new source of optical magnetic field to study the "magnetic light" and matter coupling, and allows potential applications at other frequencies such as magnetic resonance imaging
Using cluster analysis on municipal statistical data to configure public policies about Water, Sanitation and Hygiene in Venezuela
Objective: The aim of this research is to demonstrate how the use of hierarchical cluster analysis on 366 municipalities and other minor entities (parishes) of Venezuela, could be useful to consider regional differences and similarities between territorial entities when designing national public policies of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) based on evidence. Methods and results: Consider data from various sources to characterize the population of Venezuela through their territorial entities. Select variables at the level of the territorial entities to cover demographic characteristics, mortality and nutrition, coverage of reliable water and sanitation services, access to education, and access to information and communication technologies. Classify the territorial entities into a limited number of mutually exclusive groups using hierarchical clustering techniques and based on proximity in the multi-dimensional space. Adjust of assignments, reallocating some entities into a different group based on the specialists' opinion about its hierarchy in the cities regional system and its geographic location. Define an indicator to verify the consistency of the groups built. Conduct a statistical analysis to confirm separation of the groups.
