No full textInternational audienceIn November 2022, Lauren Mechling recalled for the Guardian that in its half-century of existence, the American premium television network HBO had managed to survive the invention of VCR, DVD and streaming. This tech list could be completed with DVR, Blu-ray and peer-to-peer. Expanding on the health field, it could be added that HBO – and premium cable, led by the channel in the US – also managed to survive a Covid-19 pandemic, rigorous sanitary measures and lockdowns that paralysed the entire world. During California's first lockdown and the year that followed, HBO was more TV than ever before, with its weekly schedule, its behind-the-scenes stories, and its tension between reflection and rejection of a potentially suffocating reality. Despite its marketing efforts, in the 1990s and 2000s, to “highlight the difference of its output from other television content”, the cable network proved the ability of television to cope with the twists and turns of history.En novembre 2022, Lauren Mechling rappelait pour le Guardian qu’en un demi-siècle d’existence, la chaîne américaine HBO avait eu le temps de survivre à l’invention du magnétoscope, du DVD et du streaming. On pourrait compléter la liste technologique avec l’enregistreur numérique, le Blu-ray et le téléchargement illégal. Et en élargissant la réflexion au champ sanitaire, on pourrait ajouter que HBO – et le câble premium dont la chaîne représente le chef de file aux États-Unis – a également survécu à une pandémie de Covid-19, à des mesures sanitaires particulièrement strictes et à des périodes de confinement ayant tétanisé la planète. Durant le premier confinement de la Californie et l’année qui a suivi, HBO n’a jamais autant été de la télévision, avec sa grille de programmes, sa périodicité de diffusion hebdomadaire, ses histoires qui se prolongent en coulisses et son tiraillement entre reflet et rejet d’une réalité parfois suffocante. En dépit de son marketing qui visait, dans les années 1990 et 2000, à « dissocier sa programmation de celle de la concurrence », la chaîne câblée a montré combien le médium télévisuel pouvait s’adapter aux soubresauts de l’histoire

Microfinance and financing of micro entrepreneurship in Burundi
No full textInternational audienceThis article aims to identify the determinants of financing microenterprises in Burundi by microfinance institutions. Using the logit model and exploiting data from the loan portfolios of Burundian microfinance institutions, the econometric analysis reveals that the financing of microenterprises in Burundi is strongly correlated with characteristics of these and/or those of their micro-entrepreneurs on one hand, and to the nature of the guarantee presented when applying for credit on the other hand. We conclude by saying that the consolidation of public financial support, the establishment of monitoring policies for these guarantee funds, and the involvement of all stakeholders could substantially improve the financing of microenterprises in Burundi
