Solving Approaches for High Multiplicity RCPSP with Learning Effect and Compound Activities
International audienceThis paper addresses the High Multiplicity Resource-Constrained Project Scheduling Problem (HM-RCPSP), in which multiple projects are performed iteratively while sharing limited resources. We extend this problem by integrating the learning effect, which makes the duration of some activities decrease when they are repeated. Learning effect can be represented by any decreasing function, allowing us to get flexibility in modeling various scenarios. Additionally, we take composition of activities into consideration for reasoning about precedence and resources in a more abstract way. A Constraint Programming model is proposed for this richer problem, including a symmetry-breaking technique applied to some activities. We also present a heuristic-based search strategy. The effectiveness of these solving approaches is evaluated through an experimentation conducted on data concerning real-world satellite assembly lines, as well as on some adapted literature benchmarks.
Investigating reduction and oxidation of La0.72Sr0.18Fe0.9Ni0.1O3–δ as a Co-free perovskite electrode for symmetrical solid oxide cells
International audienceIron-based perovskites are of increasing interest for applications in symmetrical reversible solid oxide cells used for hydrogen production via steam electrolysis and power generation in a fuel cell configuration. We synthesize La 0.72 Sr 0.18 Fe 0.9 Ni 0.1 O 3– δ as a potentially new candidate for this application, employing rapid nonequilibrium auto-combustion synthesis. Using powder x-ray diffraction and electron microscopy, we reveal that the material is an ABO 3 -type perovskite with an orthorhombic crystal structure. This compound exsolves small FeNi particles upon thermal treatment in a hydrogen-containing reductive atmosphere. These particles exhibit a cubic crystal structure with predominantly exposed [001] facets. The exsolution is assisted by the structural transformation of the parent orthorhombic ABO 3 -type perovskite into a Ruddlesden–Popper A 2 BO 4 -type perovskite with a tetragonal structure. Conveniently, the exsolution can be tailored to be either partially or completely reversible, depending on the temperature of the subsequent thermal treatment in an oxidative atmosphere. This correspondingly affords either the formation of a perovskite/nickel-ferrite spinel composite or reversion to the parent La 0.72 Sr 0.18 Fe 0.9 Ni 0.1 O 3– δ perovskite. The newly synthesized Co-free La 0.72 Sr 0.18 Fe 0.9 Ni 0.1 O 3– δ material is electrochemically investigated as an air electrode in a symmetrical solid oxide fuel cell, demonstrating good performance, with total polarization resistances of 2.42 and 0.33 Ω cm 2 at intermediate (650 °C) and conventional (800 °C) operating temperatures, respectively. Finally, we show that the polarization resistance at the intermediate temperature is significantly reduced from 2.42 to 1.63 Ω cm 2 through the observed formation of nickel-ferrite spinel upon redox cycling
Political parties’ ideological bias and convergence in economic outcomes
International audienceIn democracies, policies are jointly shaped by voters' preferences and politicians' (or parties’) ideological biases. We explore the relative importance of the latter on some key economic outcomes – growth rate, inflation and inequality – in a broad sample of 71 democracies from 1995 to 2019. We find evidence that both left-wing and right-wing governments deliver convergent outcomes as regards growth, inflation and inequality. The same applies to the policy outcome of economic freedom. This indicates that consolidated democracies maintain continuity in economic policies, and a change in government from one political ideology to another with a different ideology does not significantly alter economic policy outcomes. However, we find divergence in hybrid regimes; inequality and economic freedom are reduced under leftist governments, and economic freedom is enhanced by rightist governments

Agri-food supply chain network design : A comprehensive review and future research directions
International audienceAgri-Food Supply Chain Network Design (AFSCND) is a growing field of research, as it has been and continues to be crucial in ensuring food security. In modern supply chain design, strategic decisions increasingly reflect the interaction between profit-driven enterprises and sustainability-focused regulatory bodies. Despite the existence of several review papers, a systematic review that synthesizes and analyzes recent contributions to the design of agri-food supply chain networks, as a strategic decision, within a framework emphasizing perishability modeling, sustainability, resiliency, and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is still needed. This paper aims to fill this gap by focusing on how the literature addresses (i) strategic decisions and their coordination with either the tactical, the operational levels, or both, within forward or closed-loop supply chains (CLSCs); (ii) perishability modeling, a critical characteristic of many agri-food products; (iii) solution approaches, key decision variables, and uncertainty modeling; and (iv) the integration of AI techniques at the strategic level of network design. By evaluating the interplay among these elements, our objective is to provide a clear overview of current advancements, identify research gaps, and propose future directions for designing sustainable and resilient agri-food supply chains
Type 1 diabetes affects a growing number of people worldwide. While physical activity offers undeniable health benefits, hypoglycemia remains a major barrier to regular practice for people living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Managing hypoglycemia relies on adjusting insulin doses (quantity and timing) and carbohydrate intake, but current recommendations remain relatively general (for review, see article 1 of the thesis). This thesis aims to evaluate the impact of the time of day (postprandial vs. postabsorptive) as well as insulin adjustments according to treatment modalities (multiple daily injections [MDI], insulin pump [CSII], artificial pancreas) on the prevention of exercise-induced hypoglycemia. The work is divided into three sections based on randomized clinical studies (articles 2 to 4) and an observational study (article 5).Main results and conclusions 1.Postprandial period: A laboratory study (article 2) explored the effect of different delays after a meal (1h vs. 2h) with a reduced insulin bolus in participants using MDI. Another study (article 3) evaluated this effect with an artificial pancreas using exercise announcement features. Starting exercise 2h vs. 1h after a meal (with a 50% insulin bolus reduction for MDI participants and 33% for those using the artificial pancreas) did not alter the magnitude of glucose decline or hypoglycemia risk, which was null in all cases. 2.Postabsorptive period: A clinical study (article 4) compared the effects of two basal insulin rate reductions (80% vs. 40%) and two exercise modalities (moderate continuous vs. intense intermittent) on glycemic fluctuations in participants using CSII. The glucose decline during exercise was attenuated during intense intermittent exercise compared to moderate continuous exercise and tended to be reduced with the 80% basal rate reduction compared to 40%, although there were no significant differences in hypoglycemia risk. 3.Post-exercise period: An observational study (article 5) analyzed participants' spontaneous strategies to prevent nocturnal hypoglycemia. Another clinical study (article 4, second part) compared strategies based on insulin reduction or carbohydrate snacks after exercise. Bedtime snacking was a common strategy but was often accompanied by an insulin bolus, increasing the risk of nocturnal hypoglycemia. The strategies tested in the clinical study did not show significant differences in nocturnal hypoglycemia time. Our findings suggest that further reducing the basal rate 90 minutes before postabsorptive exercise or performing intense intermittent exercise rather than moderate continuous exercise may attenuate glucose decline. The situations studied were likely already effective in reducing hypoglycemia risk, explaining the low number of hypoglycemic episodes observed. This work underscores the need for a personalized approach and paves the way for more precise recommendations to adjust insulin doses, promote better-tolerated exercise practices, and guide post-exercise management to prevent nocturnal hypoglycemia in people with T1D.Le diabète de type 1 touche un nombre croissant de personnes à travers le monde.
International audienceThis article challenges the androcentric perspective that has historically and currently dominated representations of prisons, focusing on the issue of the surveillance of female prisoners in the 19th century. In France, during the July Monarchy, a prison policy aimed at segregating inmates by sex established the principle that female convicts in central detention and correctional facilities should be supervised by individuals of the same sex. The Sisters’ Service Regulations of 22 May 1841 helped to achieve this, by establishing the involvement of specific staff, namely nuns. These regulations contributed to the creation of a specific organisation for women's prisons, reconfiguring the function of surveillance by distinguishing it from that performed by guards in men’s prisons. This article sheds light on the specific nature of the role assigned to these nuns, highlighting that the conditions for a special 'prison education' for female prisoners were established on religious grounds. The introduction of differentiated prison supervision for men and women had a lasting impact on the organisation of penal institutions and their staffing.À rebours d’une perspective androcentrée dominant les représentations historiques comme actuelles de la prison, cet article entend éclairer l’enjeu de la surveillance des femmes incarcérées au XIXe siècle.
