Syndication et rentabilité des entreprises financées par equity crowdfunding
International audienceBy drawing on arguments from agency theory and resource dependence theory, our article examines the impact of syndication on the post-investment profitability of French companies financed through equity crowdfunding (ECF) during the period 2011–2022. Using two econometric approaches suited to the longitudinal nature of our data, our results reveal a negative association between these two variables. While syndication provides financial and cognitive resources to the company, it can also lead to conflicts of interest and coordination issues that may hinder project success and financial performance.En mobilisant des arguments issus des théories de l’agence et de la dépendance aux ressources, cet article étudie l’impact de la syndication sur la rentabilité post-investissement des entreprises françaises financées par equity crowdfunding (ECF) au cours de la période 2011-2022. En s’appuyant sur deux approches économétriques adaptées à la nature longitudinale de leurs données, les résultats révèlent l’existence d’une association négative entre ces deux variables. Acute Effects of Daily Life Spontaneous and Structured Physical Activity on Glycemia in Children with Type 1 Diabetes
International audienceObjectives In type 1 diabetes, glycemia management is rendered complex through the confounding influence of spontaneous physical activity (PA), particularly frequent in children. We aim to understand the glycemic effects of self-reported PA and cumulative spontaneous PA in their everyday life, controlling for carbohydrate intake and insulin.Methods In this 7-day observational study, 45 children/adolescents (21 females, 11‧7 ± 3‧4 years) wore a continuous glucose monitoring system and accelerometer, completing diaries about PA, diet, insulin. Types of PA included (i) self-reported PA and its characteristics (duration, subjective intensity) and conditions (previous sessions, timing and pre-exercise carbohydrate intake, insulin-on-board, glycemia), (ii) spontaneous cumulative PA (accelerometry) adjusted for sedentary time. Linear mixed models were used with results expressed as the estimated coefficient ‘e’. In cases of skewed continuous dependent outcomes containing a preponderance of zero % values, random-intercept binary logistic regressions were used with results expressed as odds ratios (OR).Results Accumulating moderate-to-vigorous PA during the late afternoon (e = −0‧32, P = 0‧039) was associated with decreased concomitant time spent >13‧9 mmol.L-1. Time spent >10‧0 mmol.L-1 during self-reported PA was lower when children consumed less high-glycemic-index carbohydrates the previous hour (e = +0‧49, P = 0‧034; albeit found only in one model out of two) or were physically active before the session (tendency: e = −11‧58, P < 0‧07). PA conditions were not significantly associated with hypoglycemia. Risk of spending some time < 3‧9 mmol.L-1 during sessions was higher in the case of longer PA duration (OR = 1‧02, P = 0‧008). Risk of nocturnal time < 3‧0 mmol.L-1 was greater when children performed longer duration structured PA (OR = 1‧02, P = 0‧054) or accumulated more afternoon vigorous-intensity PA (OR = 1‧06, P = 0‧04).Conclusions Increasing spontaneous active behavior during the late afternoon could help reduce day-time spent >13‧9 mmol.L-1. There is a possibility that hyperglycemia during exercise could be limited by multiplying daily PA sessions or avoiding excessive pre-exercise carbohydrate intake. However, as only sessions characteristics, especially duration, predicted time < 3‧9 mmol.L-1 during PA and < 3‧0 mmol.L-1 the following night, simplified guidelines (not considering PA conditions) on hypoglycemic risk could be developed

Elicitor-driven enhancement of phenolic compounds in geranium callus cultures: phytochemical profiling via LC-MS/MS and biological activities
International audienceThis research explores the effects of chitosan (CHT) and salicylic acid (SA) as elicitors on the production of phenolic and flavonoid compounds in Pelargonium graveolens Hort. Callus cultures on solid media, aiming to enhance antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, and anti-elastase properties. Calli were treated with various concentrations of CHT (25, 50, 75, and 100 mg/mL) and SA (25, 50, 75, and 100 µM), and their phytochemical profiles were examined through LC-MS/MS analysis. The findings indicated that salicylic acid (SA) and chitosan (CHT) notably enhanced the levels of total phenolic content (TPC) and total flavonoid content (TFC). The greatest increase in TPC was seen in cultures treated with 25 µM of salicylic acid (SA 2 ), recording 336.80 ± 8.35 mg/100 g dry weight (DW), and in cultures treated with 100 mg/mL of chitosan (CHT 5 ), which showed 325.74 ± 7.81 mg/100 g DW. Among individual phenolics, kaempferol showed a remarkable increase under SA 2 (192.82 ± 17.99 mg/100 g DW) compared to the control (103.68 ± 5.00 mg/100 g DW), and CHT 5 treatment (119.68 ± 12.01 mg/100 g DW). Additionally, rutin accumulation peaked at 30.64 ± 3.00 mg/100 g DW under SA 2 treatment. Antioxidant activities, measured by DPPH and TAC assays, were also enhanced, with SA 2 and CHT 5 treatments showing significant improvement over the control. The SA 2 -elicited cultures exhibited superior anti-tyrosinase and anti-elastase activities, with IC 50 values of 51.43 ± 1.31 μg/mL, 35.42 ± 4.42 μg/mL, and 31.84 ± 0.60 μg/mL, respectively. These findings suggest that elicitors effectively boost the bioactive compound production in P. graveolens calli, and subsequently the biological activity, highlighting their potential in developing natural skincare products with antioxidant and anti-aging benefits
Rethinking responsibility in the digital age: a narrative approach
International audienceResearchers, policymakers, and industry are increasingly aware of the urgent risks and threats arising in the digital age. Their awareness of this urgency has led to a rise of interest in responsibility. While this ‘turn to responsibility’ has been well-intentioned, an underappreciated problem is that the dominant, centuries-old view of responsibility is not up to this task – it is unable to make sense of the increasingly extended scope of responsibility in the digital age because it is mired in outdated assumptions about causality, agency, and human action. Inspired by Paul Ricoeur’s philosophy, we show the benefits of rethinking responsibility as an ongoing process of becoming responsible—that is, becoming responsible by being imputed through the narrative emplotment of extended sociomaterial events. We illustrate the benefits of this conception for the digital age using vignettes from plagiarism detection, social media, and AI. The paper concludes by proposing a Ricoeur-inspired narrative topology of the multidimensional time-space of responsibility emplotment. The paper calls on the MIS community and society more broadly to draw on this topology to reflect on their imputations and take up responsibility, individually and collectively
Impact of protein ratio and thermal treatment on the aggregation and rheological properties of high-concentrated milk and pea protein suspensions
International audienceThe association of pea proteins (PP) with a more consumer-accepted product, such as milk, is considered as a strategy to improve plant protein consumption. This study investigates the physicochemical and rheological properties of mixed milk protein (MP): PP systems at different protein ratios (100:0, 80:20, 60:40, 40:60, 20:80, 0:100, MP:PP) in high-concentrated protein systems, before and after thermal treatment. The results showed that MP, represented by casein, and PP form independent networks with rheological behavior dependent on the major protein fraction involved in the mixture. However, a synergistic effect on elasticity and viscosity was observed for the 20:80 ratio, which was further accentuated by temperature and protein concentration increase. Also, the water dynamic was reduced after the thermal treatment, showing that in this ratio the casein, present in the milk proteins suspension is finely distributed within the PP network. These results bring new insights into the physical properties of composite plant/animal protein systems for the development of innovative mixed formulation
Is leg-length discrepancy after total hip arthroplasty corrected accurately after revision? : functional outcomes and complication rate in 57 patients.
International audienceAimsThe results of revision surgery to correct leg-length discrepancy (LLD) after total hip arthroplasty (THA) are not clear. Only two previous small series have been published dealing with this issue. The aim of this retrospective study of revision THAs for LLD was to determine the postoperative change in LLD, the functional outcomes, and whether obtaining equal leg lengths influenced function, as well as to report the complication rate and survival.MethodsThis multicentre study included 57 patients: 42 revisions for limb shortening and 15 for limb lengthening. LLD was measured on conventional radiographs. The Oxford Hip Score (OHS) and Forgotten Joint Score (FJS) were collected, along with the number of patients achieving the minimal clinically important difference (MCID) for the OHS.ResultsRevisions were carried out at a mean of 2.8 years after the initial THA. The median LLD decreased significantly from 7.5 mm (IQR 5 to 12) to 1 mm (IQR 0.5 to 2.5) at a mean follow-up of two years (SD 2.4) (p < 0.001). A total of 55 patients (96%) had < 5 mm LLD at follow-up and 12 (21%) had equal leg lengths. The complication rate was 26%. There were 13 mechanical complications (eight periprosthetic femoral fractures, two stem loosenings, two acetabular loosenings and one dislocation), and one periprosthetic infection. Patient satisfaction was high, with a median FJS of 79% (IQR 64 to 98), and 37/48 patients (77%) reached the OHS MCID. Lengthening procedures had significantly worse function postoperatively than shortening procedures (38% vs 91% of patients achieving the OHS MCID (p < 0.001)). Survival was 85% (95% CI 77.9 to 92.5) at two years and 77% (95% CI 66.3 to 87.1) at 4.6 years using re-revision as the endpoint.ConclusionWhen LLD after THA remains symptomatic after conservative management, revision THA should be considered. Revision THA for LLD improved the medium-term functional outcomes with a high patient satisfaction rate, especially for shortening procedures. However, the complication rate, particularly of periprosthetic femoral fracture, was high
