Regulation of automatic imitation: domain-specific vs. domain-general control processes
International audienceThe tendency to automatically imitate others’ behavior is well documented. Successful interactions with others require some control of automatic imitation, but the nature of these control mechanisms remains unclear. The present study investigated whether the regulation of automatic imitation involves domain-specific vs. domain-general control processes. Automatic imitation was assessed using the imitation-inhibition task, in which participants responded to an imperative stimulus with finger movements while seeing imitatively congruent vs. incongruent, task-irrelevant movements. In Experiment 1, the imitatively congruent/incongruent trials ratio was manipulated and increasing the amount of incongruent trials reduced the imitative congruency effect – as typically observed in ‘non-social’ conflict tasks. In Experiment 2a, the imitation-inhibition task was intermixed with the Simon (spatial congruency) task. The ratio of spatially congruent/incongruent trials in the Simon task was varied while keeping the ratio of imitatively congruent/incongruent trials constant. Results indicate that increasing the amount of Simon conflict reduced both Simon and imitative congruency effects. Thus, control adaptations related to Simon congruency transferred to automatic imitation. In Experiment 2b and 3, the manipulation of the proportion of incongruent trials in the imitation-inhibition task did not exert an influence on the Simon effect. We discuss the domain-specific vs. domain-general nature of the mechanisms regulating imitation in the light of these conflicting findings

Modeling Solute Transport in Rivers: Analytical and Numerical Solutions
International audienceThis study presents a novel analytical framework for modeling one-dimensio- nal solute transport in rivers, integrating advection, rate-limited adsorption on suspended sediments, and first-order degradation. Analytical solutions are used to validate the numerical scheme’s accuracy under idealized conditions, tested for instantaneous and continuous pollutant discharges. The research importantly investigates short-term solute accumulation in riverbeds, a crit- ical yet understudied process that affects sediment transport and pollutant fate. Applicable to a wide range of contaminants (e.g., nutrients, pesti- cides), the framework aids water quality assessment, pollution control, and risk mitigation. Implemented in the open-source SWASHES library, these solutions provide practical tools for decision-support systems and serve as reliable benchmarks to validate numerical models. By addressing transient and persistent pollutant scenarios, this work enhances predictive capabili- ties for environmental management. The approach bridges analytical and numerical methods, offering a robust foundation for simulating solute trans- port across industrial and ecological contexts, advancing sustainable water resource management
Assessing volatility persistence in fractional Heston models with self-exciting jumps
International audienceWe derive a new fractional Heston model with self-exciting jumps. We study volatility persistence and demonstrate that the quadratic variation necessarily exhibits less memory than the integrated variance, which preserves the degree of long-memory of the instantaneous volatility. Focusing on realized volatility measures, we find that traditional long-memory estimators are dramatically downward biased, in particular for low-frequency intraday sampling. Conveniently, our Monte Carlo experiments reveal that some noise-robust local Whittle-type estimators offer good finite sample properties. We apply our theoretical results in a risk forecasting study and show that our frequency-domain forecasting procedure outperforms the traditional benchmark models

Avord (18) développement d’une base militaire sur le temps long
International audienceEn 1868, dans un article sur les enceintes en terre dans le département du Cher, Alphonse Buhot de Kersers signale l’existence d’une enceinte fossoyée sur la commune de Farges à la hauteur d’Avord sur la crête d’un plateau qui domine la rive droite de l’Yèvre. Il y voyait des fortifications laissées par des troupes romaines.A la veille de la guerre de 1870, la commune, qui ne compte quelque 360 habitants est une station sur la ligne de chemin de fer de Bourges à Nevers, dotée du télégraphe. Pendant le conflit c’est l’un des points où se concentrent les forces du général Bourbaki qui s’apprêtent à opérer sur les arrières de l’armée allemande.Au lendemain de la guerre, l’armée décide d’y établir un camp d’instruction des troupes susceptible d’accueillir une division en profitant de l’espace qu’offre le plateau pour en faire un champ de manœuvre. L’un des promoteurs du projet est le comte de Choulot, commandant des mobiles du Cher en 1870-1871.Le camp constitué de baraquements qui s’organisent selon le principe du Front de Bandière d’une division sort très rapidement de terre. Il sert un temps d’école de sous-officiers.En 1910 le conseil général du Cher qui a organisé un premier meeting aérien à Bourges propose à l’armée d’y établir un centre de formation d’aviateurs par lequel passeront de nombreux élèves pilotes pendant la Grande Guerre.Dans l’entre-deux Guerres, Armée de Terre et Armée de l’Air coexistent sur le site qui devient un centre de formation pour la reconnaissance aérienne.Après la défaite de 1940, la base est occupée par les allemands jusqu’en 1944. Ils développeront ses infrastructures en y ajoutant une piste. Plusieurs fois bombardée, elle est reprise par la seule armée de l’air à la Libération.Les différents diagnostics archéologiques réalisés sur la commune d’Avord et à l’intérieur de la base ont permis d’appréhender l’évolution du camp de 1871 à 1945 et de documenter d’ancienne infrastructures de DCA, des années 1930
MAPT mutations in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: clinical, neuropathological and functional insights
International audienceBackground: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) are part of a well-established disease continuum, underpinned by TDP43-pathology. In contrast, the clinical manifestations of Tau-linked disorders are typically limited to cognitive phenotypes or atypical parkinsonism, although few reports describe motor neuron involvement associated with MAPT (microtubule-associated protein Tau) mutations. This study aimed to investigate the contribution of MAPT to the ALS phenotype.Methods: We analyzed a whole-exome sequencing database comprising 470 ALS patients and explored the pathogenicity of the identified variants through familial, clinical, neuropathological, and cellular studies.Results: We identified two missense variants in the Tau repeat domains: the novel p.I308T variant, in a patient with earlyonset ALS, and the p.P364S mutation in three families with spinal-or respiratory-onset ALS. Segregation of this mutation with disease could be confirmed in two affected cousins. The observation of p.P364S patient's tissue showed accumulations of hyperphosphorylated Tau in various brain regions, prominent in the motor cortex with Lewy body-like inclusions, along with a C-terminal cleaved form of Tau in muscle. In NSC-34 motor neuron cells expressing p.I308T or p.P364S mutants, Tau was discontinuous along the neurites, with clusters of mitochondria resulting from impaired mitochondrial motility.Conclusion These findings expand the molecular understanding of ALS to include MAPT mutations. MAPT analysis should be incorporated into ALS genetic screening, particularly in patients with a familial history of the disease. Recognizing the full spectrum of MAPT-linked neurodegenerative diseases is of considerable interest, given the ongoing efforts to develop MAPT-targeted therapies
