    Od Homerja do Maxa Webra: Sociologija Odiseje

    The paper presents the protagonist of Homer’s Odyssey from a socio­logical perspective, specifically within the framework of the so-called “third sociology,” which views society as a realm of constant interaction among individuals. Its dynamic network of relationships places every acting individual in its nodes – social positions or roles. This process generates both group and individual social capital, which shapes each individual’s life course. In this perspective, Odysseus is an acting individual occupying a political position in ancient society. The interpretation of his behaviors, as described in various episodes of the Odyssey, reveals his personal attributes, modes, and methods of action; and their combination produces an archetypal image of the role of a politician, later echoed by Max Weber.Članek analizira protagonista Homerjeve Odiseje s sociološkega vidika, natančneje z vidika tako imenovane »tretje sociologije«, ki družbo obravnava kot področje nenehnega medsebojnega delovanja posameznikov. Njena dinamična mreža odnosov postavlja vsakega posameznika v ustrezna vozlišča – družbene položaje ali vloge. Tak proces ustvarja tako skupinski kot individualni socialni kapital, ki oblikuje življenjsko pot vsakega posameznika. V tej perspektivi je Odisej dejavni posameznik, ki zaseda politični položaj v antični družbi. Sociološka interpretacija njegovih ravnanj, kot so opisana v različnih epizodah Odiseje, razkriva njegove osebne lastnosti ter načine in metode delovanja; njihova kombinacija ustvarja arhetipsko podobo politikove vloge, kot jo je kasneje obravnaval Max Weber

    Satirical and parodic animation – one of the prominent genres in Soviet film production – frequently drew on classical antiquity. Greek and Roman mythology provided not only narrative frameworks but also culturally familiar symbols through which animators could ad­dress social vices, ideological contradictions, and collective anxieties. This paper examines four case studies produced in Georgia, Latvia, Russia, and Ukraine: one from 1936 and three from the late 1960s and 1970s. These films either adapt specific ancient myths or engage more broadly with the idea of ancient civilization, demonstrating the diverse strategies through which classical heritage was appropriated across different Soviet republics. Although antiquity itself is never the object of satire, the comic effect relies on a shared cultural repertoire, including the audience’s general familiarity with mythological themes. By juxtaposing the 1936 production with films from the 1960s and 1970s, the study traces the shifting functions of classical material in Soviet animation and highlights the medium’s capacity to negotiate contem­porary concerns through humorous reworkings of the ancient past.Satira in parodija v animiranem filmu – ki je bil eden pomembnejših žanrov v sovjetski filmski produkciji – sta pogosto črpali iz klasične antike. Grška in rimska mitologija sta zagotavljali ne le pripovedne okvire, temveč tudi kulturno prepoznavne simbole, s katerimi so animatorji lahko obravnavali družbene slabosti, ideološka protislovja in kolektivne strahove. Članek obravnava štiri primere, posnete v Gruziji, Latviji, Rusiji in Ukrajini: enega iz leta 1936 in tri iz poznih 1960-ih in 1970-ih. Ti filmi bodisi prilagajajo določene antične mite bodisi se posvečajo širši ideji antične civilizacije, pri čemer prikazujejo raznolike strategije odnosa do klasičnega izročila v različnih sovjet­skih republikah. Čeprav antika sama po sebi nikoli ni predmet satire, temelji komični učinek na skupnem kulturnem repertoarju ter na splošni prepoznavnosti mitoloških tem s strani občinstva. S primerjavo produkcije iz leta 1936 s filmi iz 60. in 70. let 20. stoletja razprava sledi spreminjajočim se funkcijam klasičnega izročila v sovjetski animaciji in poudarja zmožnost medija za obravnavo sodobnih vprašanj prek humornih predelav antične preteklosti

    Tolmačenje za ukrajinske begunce v zdravstvenem sistemu na Poljskem

    The war in Ukraine has led to a surge in migration across Europe, particularly to Poland. De­spite the urgent need for effective integration infrastructure, the Polish government was unable to provide adequate reception services for refugees. Against this backdrop, professional translators’ associations in Poland, along with NGOs and non-professional language mediators, had to step in to replace public institutions and provide alternative language assistance solutions. This paper examines the state of interpreting provision and discusses the situation following the outbreak of the migration crisis. It also considers the needs of migrants, the responses of the authorities to these needs, and the actions taken by professional and non-professional interpreter associations. To offer more detailed insight into the experiences of interpreters, the paper also presents the results of a case study conducted in Poland interviewing or observing seven professional and non-professional language mediators in a medical setting. The data for this ethnographic research were collected through semi-structured interviews with three professional and two non-professional interpreters in healthcare facilities in Warsaw, as well as through observation of interpreted encounters during two psychological sessions with Ukrainian refugees.Vojna v Ukrajini je sprožila obsežen porast migracij po Evropi – povečano priseljevanje je bilo še posebej občuteno na Poljskem. Kljub pereči potrebi po učinkoviti integracijski infrastrukturi poljski vladi ni uspelo zagotoviti primernega sprejema beguncev. Ker vlada ni zagotovila potrebne podpore, so se morala aktivirati poljska združenja profesionalnih prevajalcev skupaj z nevladni­mi organizacijami in neprofesionalnimi jezikovnimi posredniki in nadomestiti javne institucije ter ponuditi alternativne rešitve za jezikovno podporo. V tem prispevku orisujemo stanje na področju tolmačenja in razpravljamo o razmerah po izbruhu migrantske krize. Poleg tega so obravnavane tudi potrebe migrantov, odgovor oblasti na te potrebe in ukrepi, ki so jih izvedla profesionalna in neprofesionalna združenja tolmačev. Za podrobnejši vpogled v izkušnje tolmačev so v članku predstavljeni tudi rezultati študije primera, ki je bila izvedena na Poljskem in je vključila sedem poklicnih in nepoklicnih jezikovnih posrednikov v medicinskem okolju. Podatki za to etnografsko raziskavo so bili zbrani s polstrukturiranimi intervjuji s tremi profesionalnimi in dvema nepro­fesionalnima tolmačema v zdravstvenih ustanovah v Varšavi ter z opazovanjem tolmačenja dveh psiholoških obravnav ukrajinskih beguncev

    Influence of plasma treatment of beech and spruce wood on bonding with MUF adhesive

    Proučevali smo vpliv plazemske obdelave na lepljenje lesa navadne bukve (Fagus sylvatica L.) in navadne smreke (Picea abies Karst.) z melamin-urea-formaldehidnim (MUF) lepilom. Izdelali smo 12 trislojnih lepljencev in sicer 4 iz bukovine, 4 iz smrekovine in 4 hibridne, kjer sta bili zunanji lameli iz bukovine, notranja pa iz smrekovine. Polovico lamel smo pred lepljenjem plazemsko obdelali, druge polovice pa ne. Ugotovili smo, da plazemska obdelava ni bistveno vplivala na strižno trdnost lepilnih spojev. Tako kontrolni kot plazemsko obdelani preizkušanci so imeli podobne strižne trdnosti znotraj vsake vrste lepljenca (bukev, smreka in hibrid), v večini primerov pa je prišlo do 100 % loma po lesu. Pri dveh metodah delaminacijskega testa po standardu EN 14080 (B in C) smo opazili razliko v deležu delaminacije med kontrolnimi in plazemsko obdelanimi bukovimi lepljenci, kjer je plazemska obdelava površin lamel pred lepljenjem izboljšala adhezijo z MUF lepilom.The influence of plasma treatment on the bonding of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and Norway spruce (Picea abies Karst.) wood with a melamine-urea-formaldehyde (MUF) adhesive was investigated. Twelve three-layer beams were made: four of beech, four of spruce, and four hybrid, with the outer lamellae made of beech and the inner one of spruce. Half of the lamellae were plasma treated before gluing, the other half were not. It was found that plasma treatment did not significantly affect the shear strength of adhesive joints. Both control and plasma-treated specimens exhibited similar shear strength within each type of glulam beam (beech, spruce, and hybrid), and in most cases there was 100% wood failure. In two delamination test methods according to standard EN 14080 (B and C), a difference in the degree of delamination was observed between the control and plasma-treated beech specimens, where plasma treatment of the lamellae surfaces prior to bonding improved adhesion with MUF adhesive

    Thematic shifts in translation: The case of Slovene translations of Leonardo da Vinci’s Fables and legends

    Prispevek na primeru izbranih slovenskih prevodov Basni in legend Leo­narda da Vincija analizira prevodne tematske premike, njihovo obveznost in druge prevodne spremembe, ki jih spremljajo. Analiza je pokazala, da je v prevedenih besedilih tematskih premikov manj od ohranjenih tematskih razmerij. Tematski premiki so tipološko raznovrstni in povezani z drugimi prevodnimi spremembami, kot so različne pretvorbe, prerazporeditve, iz­pusti ali vpeljave novih besedilnih elementov. Kot njihova posledica se na mestu ciljnih tem pojavljajo tipološko, zgradbeno in/ali vsebinsko drugačni elementi, ki deloma spreminjajo tematsko oblikovanje besedila. Večina te­matskih premikov je posledica prevajalčevih subjektivnih odločitev, manj pogosto tematske premike narekujejo sistemske razlike med italijanščino in slovenščino.The paper analyses thematic translation shifts, their obligatoriness and other translation changes that accompany them based on selected Slove­ne translations of Leonardo da Vinci’s Fables and Legends. The analysis shows that in the translated texts the number of thematic shifts is lower than the number of preserved thematic relations. The thematic shifts are typologically diverse and related to other translation changes, such as vari­ous transformations, rearrangements, omissions or additions of new textual elements. Because of these shifts, typologically, structurally and/or seman­tically different elements appear as target themes, partly changing the the­matic structuring of the text. Most thematic shifts can be considered a result of the translator’s subjective choices, although some were dictated by the systemic differences between Italian and Slovene

    CHANGES IN BIOCHEMICAL MARKERS IN BROILER CHICKENS EXPOSED TO GADOLINIUM AND LANTHANUM ORTHOVANADATE NANOPARTICLES

    In our research, we were interested in the presence of changes in the biochemical profile of the blood serum of broiler chickens under the influence of nanoparticles of gadolinium orthovanadate (NP GdVO4:Eu3+), lanthanum orthovanadate (NP LaVO4:Eu3+) and their mixture in therapeutic doses, which were established by us in previous studies on white rats. Day-old broiler chickens of the Cobb 500 cross (n=150) were used as the object of study. Chickens of the experimental group I received NP GdVO4:Eu3+ for 10 days at a dose of 0.2 mg/L of drinking water, experimental group II – NP LaVO4:Eu3+ at a dose of 0.2 mg/L of drinking water, experimental group III – NP GdVO4:Eu3+ and NP LaVO4:Eu3+ at a dose of 0.2 mg/L of drinking water (on average, chickens received 0.09 (0.13-0.05) mg/kg body weight of NP) and chickens of the experimental group IV received with water the veterinary vitamin drug Devivit Complex to compare the antioxidant effect at a dose of 0.3 ml/L of drinking water, chickens of the control group received drinking water without additives. After 10 days, NP administration was stopped and the chickens were observed for another 5 days. The administration of these nanoparticles to broiler chickens for 10 days was found to lead to a decrease in lipid metabolism (total cholesterol and triglycerides), protein metabolism (uric acid) and lipid peroxidation (diene conjugates and malondialdehyde) against the background of activation of carbohydrate metabolism (increased glucose concentration) and activity of hepatospecific enzymes (alanine and aspartate aminotransferases) with a prolonged effect after discontinuation of administration. The data obtained show that rare earth element orthovanadates nanoparticles have antioxidant properties. These nanoparticles are promising candidates for use in feed additives and veterinary drugs with an adaptogenic effect. Spremembe biokemičnih označevalcev pri pitovnih piščancih, izpostavljenih nanodelcem gadolinijevega in lantanovega ortovanadata Izvleček: V raziskavi nas je zanimala prisotnost sprememb v biokemičnem profilu krvnega seruma piščancev brojlerjev pod vplivom nanodelcev gadolinijevega ortovanadata (NP GdVO4:Eu3+), lantanovega ortovanadata (NP LaVO4:Eu3+) in njihove mešanice v terapevtskih odmerkih, ki smo jih ugotovili v prejšnjih študijah na belih podganah. Raziskava je bila izvedena na enodnevnih brojlerjih Cobb 500 cross (n = 150). Piščanci eksperimentalne skupine I so 10 dni prejemali NP GdVO4:Eu3+ v odmerku 0,2 mg/l pitne vode, piščanci eksperimentalne skupine II – NP LaVO4:Eu3+ v odmerku 0,2 mg/l pitne vode, piščanci eksperimentalne skupine III pa NP GdVO4:Eu3+ in NP LaVO4:Eu3+ v odmerku 0,2 mg/l pitne vode (v povprečju so piščanci prejemali 0,09 (0,13–0,05) mg/kg telesne mase NP). Piščanci poskusne skupine IV so z vodo prejemali veterinarski vitaminski pripravek Devivit Complex v odmerku 0,3 ml/l pitne vode za primerjavo antioksidativnega učinka, piščanci kontrolne skupine pa pitno vodo brez dodatkov. Po 10 dneh smo prenehali dajati NP in piščance opazovali še 5 dni. Ugotovili smo, da je 10-dnevno dajanje omenjenih nanodelcev piščancem brojlerjem povzročilo zmanjšanje presnove lipidov (skupnega holesterola in trigliceridov), presnove beljakovin (sečne kisline) in peroksidacije lipidov (dienskih konjugatov in malondialdehida) ob aktivaciji presnove ogljikovih hidratov (povečani koncentraciji glukoze) in aktivnosti hepatospecifičnih encimov (alanina in aspartat aminotransferaze) s podaljšanim učinkom po prekinitvi dajanja. Pridobljeni podatki kažejo, da imajo nanodelci ortovanadatov redkih zemeljskih elementov antioksidativne lastnosti, zato so obetavni kandidati za uporabo v krmnih dodatkih in veterinarskih zdravilih z adaptogenim vplivom.     DENTAL PLAQUE PREVENTION AND CONTROL IN DOGS AND CATS: CURRENT AND EMERGING CONCEPTS

    Periodontal disease is very common disease of dogs and cats where interplay between dysbiotic microbial communities organized in dental plaque and aberrant immune responses play the most important roles. To prevent periodontal disease development and/or progression, dental plaque must be disrupted as often as possible. This is primarily achieved by mechanical (active) means, combining professional oral care and daily tooth brushing at home. If an adequate technique and timing of tooth brushing is difficult to achieve, other active and passive oral homecare measures are available or being explored. Preprečevanje in nadzorovanje zobnih oblog pri psih in mačkah: trenutni in novi koncepti Izvleček: Parodontalna bolezen je ena izmed najpogostejših bolezni psov in mačk. Pri nastanku bolezni pomembno vlogo igrata predvsem mikrobiota ustne votline, organizirana v zobni plak, in imunski odgovor gostitelja. Preventiva in upočasnjevanje napredovanja parodontalne bolezni temeljita na preprečevanju nastanka zobnega plaka in/ali njegovem rednem odstranjevanju, ki je zlasti mehansko in vključuje profesionalno ustno higieno v kombinaciji z rednim dnevnim ščetkanjem zob. Če ustreznega dnevnega ščetkanja zob pri živali ni mogoče zagotoviti, pa ustno nego doma lahko zagotovimo z drugimi aktivnimi ali pasivnimi načini preprečevanja nastajanja zobnih oblog; nekateri načini so dobro opisani, nekateri pa se šele razvijajo.     Experience of Students at Faculty of Natural Sciences and Engineering, University of Ljubljana in Using Online Classrooms

    The aim of the study was to determine the progress in the use of online classrooms, gather opinions on their functional use on computers or mobile devices, on user interface and its elements, work within online classrooms, and on the advantages and disadvantages of conducting examinations in online classrooms. The research involved students from various study programmes, including students of textile and clothing study programmes, and focused on analysing the use of Moodle online classrooms through the system’s built-in tools and student surveys. The results indicate that the number of users of online classrooms is increasing. Students access online classrooms via computers and, increasingly, via mobile devices. The overall appearance of online classrooms was assessed as appropriate on both computers and mobile devices, with some comments suggesting improvements in the personalisation of the dashboard and better visual organisation. Students were satisfied with the arrangement and accessibility of control elements on both types of devices and praised the typography used, while expressing less satisfaction with some of the icons representing certain functions. Remarks were also made regarding the unclear labelling of some functions or commands. The information displayed on both devices was considered visible, although its retrieval on mobile devices was perceived as time-consuming. Students reported becoming familiar with the online classroom quickly and appreciated their practicality. They were satisfied with the organisation of content by chapters. A smaller number of students uses the online classroom for exchanging opinions or group work, while they still prefer email communication for interaction with lecturers. Students praised the simplicity of submitting assignments via the online environment (esp. group assignments) and the opportunity to receive feedback from assessors. They did not encounter major difficulties when taking exams within the online classroom. They found the technical implementation straightforward, the information provided in the examination (quiz) environment useful, and the appearance of the exam interface pleasant. The findings of the study indicate the need for improvements primarily in the area of the user interface and in encouraging greater use of tools that enable direct communication among participants within online classrooms. It is also recommended that the faculty provide targeted professional training for academic and technical staff in the advanced functionalities of Moodle, promote the inclusion of interactive and collaborative learning activities, establish coherent pedagogical guidelines for online course design, systematically collect and apply user feedback, and encourage the use of digitally supported forms of teaching.Cilj raziskave je bil ugotoviti napredek pri uporabi spletnih učilnic, zbrati mnenja o funkcionalni uporabi spletnih učilnic na računalnikih ali mobilnih napravah, uporabniškem vmesniku in njegovih elementih, delu v spletnih učilnicah ter o prednostih in slabostih izvajanja izpitov v spletnih učilnicah. V raziskavo so bili vključeni študenti različnih študijskih programov (tudi študenti tekstilstva), osredotočala pa se je na analizo uporabe spletnih učilnic Moodle z uporabo vgrajenih orodij sistema ter anket med študenti. Rezultati kažejo, da število uporabnikov spletnih učilnic narašča. Do učilnic dostopajo s pomočjo računalnikov in v vedno večjem številu tudi s pomočjo mobilnih naprav. Splošni izgled učilnic je tako na računalnikih kot mobilnih napravah ocenjen kot ustrezen z nekaterimi opombami glede personalizacije nadzorne plošče in boljše preglednosti. Študenti so bili zadovoljni z razporeditvijo in dostopnostjo kontrolnikov na obeh napravah, pohvalili so uporabljeno tipografijo, manj zadovoljni pa so bili z uporabljenimi ikonami za nekatere funkcije. Podane so bile tudi opombe na nerazumljivo poimenovanje nekaterih funkcij/ukazov. Informacije na zaslonih obeh naprav so bile ocenjene kot vidne, njihovo iskanje na mobilnih napravah pa zamudno. Študenti so se v spletnih učilnicah hitro znašli, pohvalili pa so tudi njihovo praktičnost. Zadovoljni so bili z razporeditvijo vsebin po poglavjih. Manjše število študentov spletno učilnico uporablja za izmenjavo mnenj ali skupinsko delo, za interakcijo z učiteljem pa še vedno raje uporabljajo e-pošto. Pohvalili so enostavnost oddajanja nalog v spletno učilnico (predvsem skupinskih nalog) ter možnost povratne informacije ocenjevalcev. Večjih težav pri opravljanju izpitov v spletni učilnici niso zaznali; tehnična izvedba se jim je zdela preprosta, informacije v izpitnem okolju (kvizu) uporabne, izgled izpita pa prijeten. Ugotovitve raziskave nakazujejo nujnost izboljšav predvsem na področju uporabniškega vmesnika in večjega spodbujanja uporabe tistih orodij, ki omogočajo neposredno komunikacijo med udeleženci v spletnih učilnicah. Priporočljivo je tudi, da fakulteta izvaja ciljno usmerjeno strokovno usposabljanje za visokošolske in tehnične sodelavce na področju naprednih funkcionalnosti sistema Moodle, spodbuja vključevanje interaktivnih in sodelovalnih učnih dejavnosti, vzpostavi usklajene pedagoške smernice za spletno načrtovanje predmetov, sistematično zbira in uporablja povratne informacije uporabnikov ter spodbuja uporabo digitalno podprtih oblik poučevanja

    Impulzivno potrošniško vedenje v prodaji oblačil: raziskovanje vloge vzdušja v trgovini in situacijskih dejavnikov

    This study investigates the impact of store atmosphere and situational factors on impulse buying behaviour among apparel consumers, with a particular focus on the mediating role of situational factors. A quantitative research approach was employed, utilising partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) to provide comprehensive insights. Data were collected through convenience sampling from 501 apparel consumers in India. The research examines the influence of store atmospheric elements, including store ambiance, design, social factors and clothing touch, together with situational factors such as promotional offers, time availability, money availability, mood and the presence of others. The findings reveal a complex interaction between store atmosphere, situational factors and impulse buying behaviour. Specifically, store ambiance, design and key situational factors emerge as significant drivers of impulsive purchases. By incorporating situational factors as mediators, this study offers a nuanced research framework tailored to the apparel retail sector. The insights gained provide valuable implications for retailers, who can strategically enhance store atmosphere and situational conditions to effectively stimulate impulse buying behaviour among apparel consumers.Članek preučuje vpliv vzdušja v trgovini in situacijskih dejavnikov na impulzivno nakupovalno vedenje kupcev oblačil, s posebnim poudarkom na posredniški vlogi situacijskih dejavnikov. Pri raziskavi smo uporabili kvantitativni pristop, za celovito analizo pa metodo delnih najmanjših kvadratov PLS-SEM. Podatki so bili zbrani s priložnostnim vzorčenjem, in sicer med 501 kupcem oblačil v Indiji. Raziskava preučuje vpliv trgovinskega vzdušja, ki vključuje ambient, oblikovanje prostora, socialne dejavnike in možnost dotikanja oblačil, skupaj s situacijskimi dejavniki, kot so promocijske ponudbe, koliko časa in denarja je na voljo, razpoloženje ter prisotnost drugih oseb. Ugotovitve razkrivajo zapleteno medsebojno delovanje med trgovinskim vzdušjem, situacijskimi dejavniki in impulzivnim nakupovalnim vedenjem. Zlasti ambient trgovine, oblikovanje in ključni situacijski dejavniki so se pokazali kot pomembni spodbujevalci impulzivnih nakupov. Z vključitvijo situacijskih dejavnikov kot posredniških spremenljivk ponuja raziskava izpopolnjen raziskovalni okvir, prilagojen maloprodajnemu sektorju oblačil. Ugotovitve imajo lahko pomembno praktično vrednost za prodajalce, ki lahko z načrtnim oblikovanjem trgovinskega vzdušja in situacijskih pogojev učinkoviteje spodbujajo impulzivno potrošniško vedenje

    The role of social behavior in academic achievement of early adolescents at the end of the current and next school year

    Namen raziskave je bil proučiti napovedne zveze temeljnih sklopov socialnega vedenja v šoli z učno uspešnostjo zgodnjih mladostnikov ob koncu tekočega in naslednjega šolskega leta. Podatke o 226 mladostnikih (54,9 % deklet in 45,1 % fantov), povprečno starih 12,4 leta (SD = 8 mesecev), smo pridobili v obdobju dveh zaporednih šolskih let. Socialno vedenje mladostnikov so pri drugi pilotni obliki Vprašalnika o socialnem vedenju za zgodnje mladostnike (SV-M) ocenili njihovi razredniki/razredničarke proti zaključku drugega ocenjevalnega obdobja v prvem letu zbiranja podatkov. Razredniki/razredničarke so prav tako posredovali zaključne učne ocene mladostnikov pri slovenskem jeziku, matematiki in prvem tujem jeziku ob koncu tekočega in naslednjega šolskega leta. Rezultati eksploratorne faktorske analize SV-M so pokazali sprejemljivo prileganje modela s tremi statistično razločljivimi faktorji (tj. socialna kompetentnost, težave ponotranjenja in težave pozunanjenja). Mladostniki, ki so jih razredniki/razredničarke ocenili višje pri socialno kompetentnem vedenju in nižje pri vedenju ponotranjenja, so bili značilno bolj učno uspešni tako ob koncu tekočega kot tudi naslednjega šolskega leta. V obeh letih pa njihove učne uspešnosti ni značilno napovedovalo tudi vedenje pozunanjenja. Dekleta so bila sicer ocenjene značilno višje pri socialni kompetentnosti in fanti pri vedenju pozunanjenja, vendar te povprečne razlike niso vplivale na napovedne zveze socialnega vedenja z učno uspešnostjo. Regresijski modeli ob nadzoru spola mladostnikov namreč niso pokazali značilnih razlik pri napovedovanju učne uspešnosti na podlagi opaženih sklopov socialnega vedenja. Na podlagi rezultatov izpeljujemo predloge za nadaljnje raziskovanje in psihološko prakso, npr. upoštevanje drugih psihosocialnih dejavnikov učne uspešnosti ter preverjanje učinkovitosti obstoječih programov socialno-čustvenega učenja.The study aimed to examine the predictive relations between key components of social behavior in school and early adolescents’ academic achievement at the end of the current and following school year. Data was collected from 226 adolescents (54.9% girls and 45.1% boys) with an average age of 12.4 years (SD = 8 months) over two consecutive school years. Class teachers assessed the adolescents’ social behavior using the second pilot version of the Social Competence and Behavior Evaluation scale adapted for early adolescents (SCBE-A) towards the end of the second grading period of the first year of data collection. They also provided the students’ final academic grades in Slovene, mathematics, and the first foreign language, both at the end of the current and the next school year. Results from the exploratory factor analysis of the SCBE-A indicated a satisfactory model fit of three statistically distinct factors: social competence, internalizing behavior, and externalizing behavior. Adolescents rated higher in social competence and lower in internalizing behavior by their teachers obtained significantly higher academic grades at the end of the current and following school years. However, externalizing behavior did not significantly predict academic achievement in either year. Girls were rated significantly higher in social competence and boys in externalizing behavior, but these average differences did not affect the predictive relations between social behavior and academic achievement. Regression models that accounted for the adolescents’ gender did not reveal significant differences in predicting academic achievement based on their observed components of social behavior. Based on the results, we offer suggestions for future research and psychological practice, e.g., considering additional psychosocial factors of academic achievement and evaluating the effectiveness of the existing social-emotional learning programs
