    UPAYA MENINGKATKAN MOTIVASI BELAJAR DENGAN MEDIA PERMAINAN GET SMART MATA PELAJARAN IPA KELAS IV MI BINA BANGSA 2 KREMBANGAN SURABAYA

    This research was conducted based on the problem that it was found that the level of learning motivation of grade IV students at MI Bina Bangsa Krembangan Surabaya was still low. Based on the pre-cycle results of 25 students, only 11 students scored above the achievement criteria for learning motivation. This is because when the learning process is only teacher-centered, where the teacher only lectures and explains the material. So, there are no activities that stimulate students to be active, other than just listening to the teacher's explanation. Therefore, to increase student motivation, researchers use the Get Smart game. The formulations of the problems in this study are: (1) How is the application of the Get Smart game in Science subjects for Class IV MI Bina Bangsa Krembangan Surabaya ?. (2) How to increase the motivation to learn Natural Science Class IV MI Bina Bangsa Krembangan Surabaya after using the Get Smart game ?. Based on the results of the study, it shows that: (1) the application of the Get Smart game is going well, as evidenced by the results of teacher and student observations. The results of observations of teacher activity in the first cycle obtained a score of 77.94 with sufficient criteria, and in the second cycle a score of 86.03 was obtained with good criteria. The results of student observations in the first cycle obtained a score of 76.32 with sufficient criteria. And the results of student observations in cycle II obtained a score of 85.53 with good criteria. (2) the student's learning motivation also experienced an increase in pre-cycle activities reaching an average of 77.07 to 82.93 in the first cycle and increasing again to 86.31 in the second cycle. Likewise, the percentage of pre-cycle activity learning motivation achievement was 44% to 76% in cycle I and increased again to 88% in cycle II

    This research is motivated by the problem of students' ability to criticize which is relatively low, both in terms of the desire to express criticism, and the quality of criticism. This is reflected in the average score at the time before the research was conducted, which was far below the Minimum Completeness Criteria. Through the implementation of the Critical Incident strategy, it is expected to solve existing problems. The objectives of this study were: (1) To determine the level of students' ability to criticize Indonesian subjects before using the Critical Incident strategy for class VI MI Al-Hidayah Benowo Surabaya. (2) Knowing the application of the Critical Incident strategy in Indonesian subjects in class IV MI Al-Hidayah Benowo Surabaya. (3) Knowing the level of students' ability to criticize Indonesian language subjects after using the Critical Incident strategy for class VI MI Al-Hidayah Benowo Surabaya. This classroom action research uses Kurt Lewin's model which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation and reflection. The data collection techniques used are interviews, observation and assessment. The collected data is then analyzed. This research was conducted in class VI MI Al-Hidayah, Pakal sub-district, Surabaya district, Surabaya district with 15 students. The results of this study indicate: 1) The level of students' ability in criticizing the pre-cycle is still relatively low because it can be seen from the class average score of 67.13, while the KKM score is 70. 2) The application of the Critical Incident strategy in the ability to criticize students shows that there are improvement from students, from the results of observations using 2 cycles to maximize research. Cycle I teacher activity score was 71.15, student activity score was 67.13 and class average score was 73.86. Cycle II teacher activity score and student activity score was 83 while the class average score was 86. 3) An increase occurred from pre-cycle to cycle I of 6.73 and cycle I to cycle II of 12.14. The score of mastery learning in pre-cycle is 33%, cycle I is 60% and cycle II is 87% so that there is an increase in the percentage of mastery learning from pre-cycle to cycle I and cycle II by 27%

    The Grammatical Accuracy, Cohesion and Coherence of Thai Students’ English Writing at Darawithaya School, Narathiwat – Thailand

    Writing has been recognized as an important skill to be mastered by all students both English as Foreign Language (EFL) and English as Second Language (ESL) students since many universities around the world offer writing courses. Hence, this study attempts to analyze the grammatical accuracy, cohesion, and coherence of Thai Students’ English Writing at Darawithaya School. This study is designed to investigate (1) the grammatical accuracy on Students’ Writing, and (2) the cohesion and coherence on Students’ Writing. The participant of the study consists of 14 Second Grade Students of Senior High School who enroll Academic Education at Darawithaya School, Narathiwat – Thailand. Since this study is descriptive qualitative approach, the data is documentation from students’ writing work. Some guidelines and rubric are used in this research for analyzing. The findings reveal that there are 73 errors are found on 14 students’ composition in this study. They occur on singular/plural followed by subject omission, the use of article, pronoun, preposition, verb omission, S-V agreement, word formation, tense, and extraneous subject. Consequently, those errors make students’ grammatical accuracy value varied from one student to other students

    Reflection of Teacher’s Interpersonal Skill: Describing The Quality of An Effective Teacher

    There are six characteristics that can not be taught, only modeled, they are Caring, Fairness and Respect, Attitude toward the Teaching Profession, Social Interaction with Students, Promotion of Enthusiasm and Motivation for Learning, Reflective Practice. The aspect of teacher as a person is only one of six aspects that should be modeled and demonstrate to the students. But, this aspect is going to be left by teachers in this era. It will be monotonous teacher as a leader and messenger in holding the whole class of teaching-learning activity. Furthermore, in this research, the writer wants to explore and find out what are actually the problems of this issue. The research was done in SMK Visi Global in Banyuwangi and took 6 teachers as an object of research. The writer used descriptive qualitative and describing the phenomenon of this. Indeed, the result was Fairness and Respect, Attitude toward Teaching Profession, Enthusiasm, and Motivation for Learning, and Reflective Practice got above average but Caring, Social Interaction with Students got below average.  This issue described that the teachers in SMK Visi Global were not enlightened by a good teacher as a person and it would be ineffective for the school and students itself.     This paper is aimed to arrange teaching material for writing which will enable students to enhance their writing ability by arranging sentences through language pattern (al-anmat al-lughawiyyah). For this purpose to achieve, it is formulated three research questions as follows: 1) how is the composition of teaching material for writing skill that is based on language pattern for PBA students of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, 2) how is that teaching material of writing that is based on language pattern implememented for students of PBA department UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, 3) to what extent is the effectiveness of the teaching material implementation to enhance the ability of arranging sentences through language pattern among  the students of PBA department UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya.To answer all those questions, this study employes mixed methods:  quantitative through descriptive analysis approach, research and development (R&D), and also the experimental one. Indeed, it aims to examine the effectiveness of students'exercise score based on their pre and post test. Besides, as the population taken is 2nd semester students of PBA department of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya, it was taken 19 of them to be the samples of this study. At the end, this study shows that the proposed hypothesis is acceptable. It however means that the implementation of teaching material designed to enhance students' writing skill through language pattern is effective for students of PBA department UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. As counted, the result of pretest was 7.15 and 7.94 for the post test. It  fruitfully means that the teaching material that is developed through language pattern is effective to enhance students'writing abilit

    The Students’ Perspectives on Observing Language Use in Social Media as Social Practice

    In this digital era, college students have become familiar with social media such as Facebook, twitter, and Instagram. For English Letters Students, they also use English when updating their status, tweeting their thought, or giving captions in their photos. That phenomenon results in the students’ interest in analyzing language use in social media, proven by some theses examining social media as the data. It means that the students have started to observe English language and literacy as social practice, for example is when a student observed English Letters students’ grammatical errors in their social media accounts. That fact reveals the student’s awareness of the importance of English language and literacy as social practice. A questionnaire was distributed to 64 students who take Language Research Methodology Class. Most of them access Instagram and Facebook in their daily life and spend half of their day accessing the media. Their activities involve reading posts on information and observe comments in the form of sentences. Pedagogical implication of the students’ responses was teachers should bring social issues which happen in society in which the students live to build their critical thinking. Therefore, the students are involved in social practice while developing their critical literacy

    This study aimed to design a learning path which can help students to understand fractions based on Pendidikan Matematika Realistik Indonesia (PMRI) approach. The subject is 30 students of 4th grade of PP Qodratullah Langkan. Method of this research is design research, Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) developed from learning activity series using context stacked beads. The implementation of this research in 3 stages: preparing the design experiment, conducting the learning (the design experiment), and retrospective analysis in order to contribute to Local Instruction Theory support to students in studying fractions. The designed Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT) is then compared to Actual Learning Trajectory (ALT) students during the learning to analyze whether students learn or not from what has been designed in the learning sequence. A retrospective analysis of the implementation of learning suggests that the use of the stacking bead context can help students understand fractions

    This study is intended to find out about the two basic skills which are speaking and writing skill presented in Project level 1 (4th edition) and Achievers A1+ textbook. The textbooks were evaluated by using the theoretical framework as proposed by Cunningsworth (1995). 4 criteria were used to evaluate the presentation of the speaking skill and 9 criteria were used to examine the writing sections. The findings of this study show some interesting similarities and differences that both textbooks have on the presentation of speaking and writing skills

    The Effect of A Process Approach Using Report Writing Frame on Students’ Writing Achievement

    This study is aimed at investigating the effect of process approach using Report Writing Frame on students’ writing achievement. The design of this study was quasi-experimental design. The subjects of this study were the third-semester students of Academic Writing class of English Education Department of Brawijaya University of Malang. The result of t-test showed that the students who were taught using Report Writing Frame have better writing achievement than those who were taught without using Report Writing Frame. Besides, from the five categories or aspects which were scored; organization, content, grammar, vocabulary, and mechanic, it indicated that the students who were taught using Report Writing Frame had more significant improvement in term organization, content, and vocabulary

    Lessons from Best Practices for English Language Educational Reform in Thailand

    Lessons from other countries where digital technology is integrated into English classroom will shed lights to digital Thailand. This study, therefore, analyzed the best practices to extract and describe key success factors that could help increase national competitiveness. The conclusion of the study was drawn from an interpretive analysis and synthesis of the review of literature. Five purposefully selected best practices included Finland, Norway, the Netherlands and South Korea. This was a documentary study. The results revealed that key success that all these best practice countries share includes these ten issues: free, accessible, equalized education, ICT in English education, starting learning English in early age, professional development for teachers, stress on qualification of teachers, teacher compensations and welfares, small class size, assessment and testing reform and homework reform. Policy implications indicate that if the Thai government want to reach the educational efficiency of the best practice countries, it should take these issues into consideration. Future inquiry should include more countries to get a wider, more practical and more insightful holistic scope of the study
