QCL infrared spectroscopy combined with machine learning as a useful tool for classifying acetaminophen tablets by brand
The development of new methods of identification of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) is a subject of paramount importance for research centers, the pharmaceutical industry, and law enforcement agencies. Here, a system for identifying and classifying pharmaceutical tablets containing acetaminophen (AAP) by brand has been developed. In total, 15 tablets of 11 brands for a total of 165 samples were analyzed. Mid-infrared vibrational spectroscopy with multivariate analysis was employed. Quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) were used as mid-infrared sources. IR spectra in the spectral range 980–1600 cm−1 were recorded. Five different classification methods were used. First, a spectral search through correlation indices. Second, machine learning algorithms such as principal component analysis (PCA), support vector classification (SVC), decision tree classifier (DTC), and artificial neural network (ANN) were employed to classify tablets by brands. SNV and first derivative were used as preprocessing to improve the spectral information. Precision, recall, specificity, F1-score, and accuracy were used as criteria to evaluate the best SVC, DEE, and ANN classification models obtained. The IR spectra of the tablets show characteristic vibrational signals of AAP and other APIs present. Spectral classification by spectral search and PCA showed limitations in differentiating between brands, particularly for tablets containing AAP as the only API. Machine learning models, specifically SVC, achieved high accuracy in classifying AAP tablets according to their brand, even for brands containing only AAP

Looking back to move forward: shedding light on the dark side of entrepreneurship.
Purpose – While entrepreneurship has long been heralded for its positive contributions, there is a growing
recognition of its “dark side,” characterized by unproductive, unethical and destructive actions. This
exploratory literature review aims to illuminate the underexplored dark side of entrepreneurship, thereby
enriching the discourse on entrepreneurship’s dual nature.
Design/methodology/approach – This study employs a robust mixed-method approach, integrating
phenomenologically detailed co-citation bibliographic coupling with detailed thematic data and code-weaving.
Science mapping tools like R-Bibliometrix and VOSviewer enhance the credibility of the findings by providing
a sophisticated and reproducible methodological framework.
Findings – This review defines dark entrepreneurship, its characteristics, and its complexities. We introduced
the “Dark Entrepreneurship Trinity”: Ethical Complexity, Institutional Navigation and Conflict
Entrepreneurialship, with Institutional Navigation as the apex theme. It elucidates how this theme influences
ethical dilemmas and operational strategies in conflict zones, illustrated through a diagram depicting their
complex interrelations and dynamics.
Originality/value – The originality of this literature review lies in its comprehensive synthesis of the dark
side of entrepreneurship. This review significantly contributes to the academic discourse by delineating a
clearer picture of the destructive potentials of entrepreneurship. It compiles existing research, critically
addresses the gaps and suggests future pathways for empirical studies
Novabot: a mini-blimp dedicated to stage recording
During a second-year internship at the Georges Charpak Provence campus of Mines SaintÉtienne, located in Gardanne, Provence, I collaborated with a final-year master’s engineering student, Thibault Langlart, within the Novabot project. This project aimed to integrate a floating drone called the "ID-FLY airship" into theatrical applications to provide a unique perspective of performance scenes. Working at the ID-Fab facility under the supervision of research engineer Francois Bernier and Dr. Julien Serres, we focused on automating the drone’s behavior to maintain a fixed distance from artists on stage. Our tasks included implementing the ROS framework on a Raspberry Pi, adapting the Luxonis AI camera as a position sensor, creating a dynamic model, and developing the flight control system. Additionally, we contributed to an artistic demonstration led by Ph.D. student Yousra Mansar, who is conducting artistic research as part of her thesis at LESA in Aix-en-Provence.Ingenireo MecatrónicoPregrad
Warmth in the Doctor-Patient Relationship: Analysis of the Effect of Empathy as a Mediating Variable in the Patient's Intention to Adhere to Treatment
The doctor-patient relationship has been identified over time as a key to
the success of medical treatment. It has been explored in European, North
American, and Latin American contexts with particular socioeconomic,
educational, and cultural conditions. This research offers a new perspective on the matter. A model has been developed for the variables influencing the intention to adhere to treatment and the direct and indirect effects
of such a relationship through an experimental study. The method involved
a random design of two groups of university students, with a sample of 440
participants: 80 to validate the manipulation of the independent variables
in the created narratives, 150 for the pilot test, and 210 for the experimental situation. The emerging model revealed a directly proportional relationship between physician warmth and intention to adhere to treatment. The
results also show the mediating role of empathy as a predictor of treatment
adherence behavior and the concentration of greatest weight on the cognitive component of empathy. The significant predictors of the model confirm
that the doctor-patient relationship is a clear example of heterogeneity, in
which many patients and physicians with diverse characteristics come together and make each interaction unique,Universidad Tecnológica de Boliva
Rapid Mapping of Waterbody Variations in the Central Rift Valley, Ethiopia, Using the Digital Earth Africa Open Data Cube
Mapping waterbodies variations through time is only possible thanks to the use of in-situ hydrometric sensors or remotely sensed data. Few areas around the world count with a functional in-situ sensor’s network, but all areas can be observed with satellite imagery. Several previous studies have mapped waterbodies by means of optical satellite imagery. Combining both optical and radar data is an alternative to avoid high cloud coverage or low data availability. This work presents a workflow for mapping waterbodies variations of lakes, spatially and temporally, located in the Central Rift Valley, Ethiopia by considering Landsat-based analysis-ready data alongside Sentinel-1/2 imagery, and comparing automatic thresholding methods. The workflow is simple, yet effective, and makes use of the Digital Earth Africa Open Data Cube, for the very first time in Ethiopia to accelerate time-series processing with the potential to extend this analysis to a national scale, addressing water security challenges
This paper addresses the potential of social media as places for citizen dialogue around

Applied investigation of methyl, ethyl, propyl, and butyl mercaptan as potential poisons in the gas phase polymerization reaction of propylene
The polypropylene (PP) synthesis process is crucial in the plastics industry, requiring precise control as it directly impacts the catalytic activity and the final product’s performance. This study investigates the effects of trace amounts of four different mercaptans on the polymerization of propylene using a fourth-generation Ziegler–Natta (ZN) catalyst. Various concentrations of these mercaptans were tested, and results showed that their presence significantly reduced the melt flow index (MFI) of the final PP. The most notable MFI decrease occurred at 37.17 ppm of propyl mercaptan and 52.60 ppm of butyl mercaptan. Methyl and ethyl mercaptan also reduced the MFI at lower concentrations, indicating that mercaptans act as inhibitors by slowing down the polymerization process and reducing the fluidity of molten PP. The highest MFI increase was observed at lower concentrations of each mercaptan, suggesting that smaller molecular inhibitors require less concentration. This trend was also seen in the catalyst’s productivity, where lower concentrations of methyl mercaptan reduced PP production more effectively than higher concentrations of butyl mercaptan. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) identified interactions between the mercaptans and the ZN catalyst. Computational analysis further supported these findings, providing insights into the molecular interactions and suggesting possible inhibition mechanisms that could impact the final properties of polypropylene.Universidad Tecnológica de Bolivar, Universidad de Cartagena, Universidad de la Cost
