    (SI10-057) Effect of Time-delay on an SIR Type Model For Infectious Diseases with Saturated Treatment

    This study presents the complex dynamics of an SIR epidemic model incorporating a constant time-delay in incidence rate with saturated type of treatment rate. The system is studied to observe the effect of time lag in the asymptotic stability of endemic equilibrium states. We also establish global asymptotic stability of both disease-free and endemic equilibrium states by Lyapunov direct method with the help of suitable Lyapunov functionals. The existences of periodic solutions are ensured for the suitable choice of delay parameter. Finally, we perform numerical simulations supporting the analytical findings as well as to observe the effect of time-delay. The theoretical and numerical results together show delay can have both stabilizing and destabilizing effects on the system. Moreover, we observe that infection may die out from the population when the corresponding system without delay has two endemic equilibrium for appropriate choice of time-delay

    “It’s Real”: Experiences of Family Homelessness in Fort Worth, Texas

    Introduction: Despite the common public image of homelessness (read: a single “vagrant” person), families with children represent one-third of the homeless population—an especially-serious social problem since family homelessness has long-term negative impacts on two generations simultaneously. This interdisciplinary study examined the complexities of family homelessness in Fort Worth, Texas. Methods: A literature review outlined pathways into family homelessness, shared experiences, and common intervention strategies. An original qualitative study followed, employing a phenomenological approach to interview families in a local rapid-rehousing program. Open-ended questions allowed free descriptions of personal realities. Audio-recorded responses were analyzed for relevant themes, commonalities, and variations. Results: Findings suggested that Fort Worth families’ pathways into homelessness are consistent with the “life shock theory,” whereby those already financially strained experience compounding stresses suddenly, leading to homelessness. The study found local and national experiences to be similar; however, it was limited by a convenience sample exclusively comprised of women nearing a housing goal, potentially coloring their outlooks. Finally, the study raised the question of whether rapidly rehoused Fort Worth families are well-positioned for stability. Conclusion: The similarity of participants’ concerns pre- and post-homelessness suggested that some families may transition to a status still “at risk” rather than “stably housed.” Considered in the context of previous research, findings supported further interdisciplinary inquiry into how longer-term, post-housing support might promote housing stability

    (R1981) Evaluating the MHD Non-Newtonian Fluid Motion Past a Stretching Sheet Under the Influence of Non-uniform Thickness with Dufour and Soret Effects Implementing Chebyshev Spectral Method

    A study is made on the development of hydromagnetic non-Newtonian Casson and Williamson boundary layer flow in an electrically conducting fluid in the presence of heat flux, mass flux, and the uniform magnetic field. The governing non-linear system of PDEs is transformed into a set of non-linear coupled ODEs and then treated numerically by using the Chebyshev spectral method. The velocity, temperature, and concentration fields of the steady boundary layer flow, which are generated by the stretched sheet with non-uniform thickness are discussed. The simultaneous effects of the external magnetic field, Soret and Dufour phenomena with reference have been explored. The characteristic features of the flow phenomena are examined in some detail. Also, the main emphasis in the text of this paper was given to the structure of the friction factor, heat and mass transfer rates. The effect of different parameters, namely, magnetic number, Soret, Dufour parameters, Casson parameter, and Williamson parameter on velocity, thermal, and concentration distributions are discussed with the help of graphs. Finally, it is observed that the velocity decreases with an increase in the magnetic parameter. In addition, for the temperature profiles, opposite behavior is observed for increment in both the magnetic parameter and the Dufour parameter

    (R1886) Effect of Aggregation Function in MOMA-Plus Method For Obtaining Pareto Optimal Solutions

    In this work, we have proposed some variants of MOMA-Plus method that we have numerically tested for the resolution of nonlinear multiobjective optimization problems. This MOMA-Plus method and variants differ from each other by the choice of aggregation functions in order to reduce the number of objective functions. The theoretical results allowing us to use these aggregation functions to transform multiobjective optimization problems into single objective optimization problems are proved by two theorems. This study has highlighted the advantages of each aggregation function according to the type of Pareto front of the optimization problem. Six benchmarks test problems have been solved in this work by each of these methods and a comparative study was carried out through the performance indicators which are the differentiation with Pareto front, the convergence to the Pareto front and distributivity on the Pareto front. This allowed us to classify these methods on these benchmarks by using the Graphical Analysis for Interactive Assistance (GAIA) method

    Biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using extract of Rumex nepalensis for bactericidal effect against food-borne pathogens and antioxidant activity

    The evolution and incidence of multidrug-resistant food-borne pathogens still become a critical public health global issue. To avert this challenge there is great interest in medical applications of silver nanoparticles. Thus, this study aimed to synthesize silver nanoparticles (Rn-AgNPs) using aqueous leaf extract of Nepal Dock (Rumex nepalensis Spreng) and evaluate their antibacterial potential against food-borne pathogens and antioxidant activity. The Rn-AgNPs were characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometry, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectroscopy (FTIR). The antibacterial activities of the Rn-AgNPs were evaluated using agar well diffusion (zone of inhibition, ZOI) and microdilution (minimum inhibitory concentration, MIC and minimum bactericidal concentration, MBC) methods. The antioxidant property of the Rn-AgNPs was investigated using radical scavenging (DPPH and hydroxyl) assays. The UV-Vis spectra of Rn-AgNPs elucidated the absorption maxima at 425 nm and FTIR detected numerous functional groups of biological compounds that are responsible for capping and stabilizing Rn-AgNPs. DLS analysis displayed monodispersed Rn-AgNPs of 86.7 nm size and highly negative zeta potential (-32.5 mV). Overall results showed that Escherichia coli was the most sensitive organism, whereas Staphylococcus aureus was the least sensitive against Rn-AgNPs. In the antioxidant tests, the AgNPs radical scavenging activity reached 95.44% at 100 μg/ml. This study indicates that Rn-AgNPs exhibit a strong antimicrobial on L. monocytogenes, S. aureus, S. typhimurium, and E. coli and antioxidant and thus might be developed as a new type of antimicrobial agent for the treatment of multidrug-resistant foodborne pathogens and extensible applications in nanomaterial food- and nanocomposite-based antimicrobial packaging and/or as an antioxidant

    (R1976) A Novel Approach to Solve Fuzzy Rough Matrix Game with Two Players

    This paper proposes a new method for solving a two-person zero-sum fuzzy matrix game with goals, payoffs, and decision variables represented as triangular fuzzy rough numbers. We created a pair of fully fuzzy rough linear programming problems for players. Triangular fuzzy rough numbers can be used to formulate two fuzzy linear programming problems for the first player in the form of upper approximation intervals and lower approximation intervals. Two problems for the second player can be created in the same way. These problems have been split into five sub-crisp problems for the player first and five sub-crisp problems for the player second. The solution to the game can be obtained by solving these ten fuzzy linear programming problems. To demonstrate the method, a numerical example is provided. Using Wolfram Cloud, optimal strategies and game values are calculated for various parameters. Sensitivity analysis is carried out by altering the values of parameters

    Today\u27s Latina/o adults are the second-highest group experiencing stress in the United States (APA, 2021). In particular, experiences of acculturative stress and cultural adjustment stressors add psychological stress and impact Latinas/os adolescents\u27 overall health (Sanchez et al., 2014). While scholars have sought to delineate these challenges, less attention has been devoted to understanding how these stressors influence Latina/o youth coping behaviors and mental health. Therefore, the present study uses data from the Drug Use and Cultural Factors Among Hispanic Adolescents and Emerging Adults- Los Angeles (2006-2016) to examine the associations between Latina/o youth\u27s acculturative stress level and drug use (i.e., alcohol and marijuana). The present study included a test of logistic and linear regression analyses to examine the relationship between Latinas/os’ acculturative stress level (i.e., high or low), acculturation styles, and their drug use while controlling for demographic factors (i.e., gender, generational status, and age). Results suggest that acculturative stress is the primary predictor of negative health behaviors and should be the target of clinical intervention and treatment for Latina/o adolescents. Additionally, theoretical acculturation models should includeacculturative stress as a primary component linking the acculturation experience to health and behavior

    An Educational Intervention To Increase Nurses\u27 Knowledge And Documentation Compliance With Femoral Puncture Post-Procedure Assessments: A Quality Improvement Project

    Post-procedural complications remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality following cardiac catheterization and cerebral angiograms using femoral punctures. Life-threatening complications can be missed due to insufficient knowledge, resulting in a patient’s death. Appropriate post-procedure assessment is required and audited by the certification body, Det Norske Veritas (DNV). Failure to perform assessments can affect a hospitals’ accreditation. This study aimed to determine whether an educational intervention could increase documentation compliance with post-procedural assessments on a medical-surgical/COVID unit with a documentation compliance rate of zero. Previous research indicates that educational interventions can lead to minor to significant increases in healthcare professionals\u27 knowledge and documentation compliance. This quality improvement project used a pre-post design to assess if there was an increase in nurses’ knowledge and documentation compliance for post-proceduralassessments. The proportion of charts with documentation compliance was significantly higher following the intervention than before the intervention (Fisher\u27s exact test, alpha = 0.05, p = 0.003). The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to determine if there was a significant increase in the nurses\u27 knowledge of post-procedure assessments following the intervention. The median pre-intervention score was 4.50, and the median post-intervention score was 9.00 (p \u3c 0.001), suggesting the difference in scores is not due to chance
