(R2020) Dynamical Study and Optimal Harvesting of a Two-species Amensalism Model Incorporating Nonlinear Harvesting
Get PDFThis study proposes a two-species amensalism model with a cover to protect the first species from the second species, with the assumption that the growth of the second species is governed by nonlinear harvesting. Analytical and numerical analyses have both been done on this suggested ecological model. Boundedness and positivity of the solutions of the model are examined. The existence of feasible equilibrium points and their local stability have been discussed. In addition, the parametric conditions under which the proposed system is globally stable have been determined. It has also been shown, using the Sotomayor theorem, that under certain parametric conditions, the suggested model exhibits a saddle-node bifurcation. The parametric conditions for the existence of the bionomic equilibrium point have been obtained. The optimal harvesting strategy has been investigated utilizing the Pontryagins Maximum Principle. The potential phase portrait diagrams have been provided to corroborate the acquired findings
The Impact of Personal and Service-Related Factors on the Perceived Academic Success Among College Students
Get PDFIn recent years, student completion of the first year and second-year college curriculum has become a significant barrier to student success and retention especially at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Despite low pass and retention rates, many degree programs in the U.S. require at least one college-level mathematics course, and the failure in this math course has contributed disproportionately to the failure to complete the first- and second-year curriculum.
The purpose of this study was to examine the predictability of the relationship between selected personal, academic, and service-related factors and the perceived academic success in mathematics among college students. Specifically, this study was concerned with the predictive power of the variables gender, ethnicity, course schedules, degree program, type of instructional method, tutoring, advisement, and faculty mentoring on the perceived academic success in math among college students.
The present study provides pertinent data on the significant association between personal characteristics of college students and their academic performance in mathematics. By being able to identify the personal characteristics of these college students who are not successful in math courses, the institution will be able to develop programs to assist them in enhancing their academic performance in mathematics. Also, this study enhances college administrators’ level of awareness of how student support service factors influence the academic achievement of college students in mathematics related courses. By understanding how these factors are related administrators on college campuses can develop insight into the type of service support college students will need to navigate mathematics courses, particularly at the freshman and sophomore levels

No full textWe introduce some new subclasses of analytic functions which are univalent in an open unit disk by means of fractional calculus. The elemental interest is to explore the significance of fractional-order operators while formulating a few distinct subclasses of univalent analytic functions. Present work establishes the Fekete-Szegö inequality for the proposed subclasses. In addition, some classical Fekete-Szegö problems have also been retrieved and discussed as particular cases of the presented work. To make the suggested work more evident, an extremal function is also provided for which a sharp upper bound is attained

Designing sustainability programs to avoid and escape the capability trap
No full textThe capability trap relegates organisations to poor performance by preventing feedback loop dominance shifts from working harder to working smarter. Escaping the trap is difficult because of the feedback structure that creates the trap, managerial biases, and delays in exploiting high leverage solutions. Previous research analysed cases of existing systems captured by or escaped from the trap, primarily to identify and explain trapping mechanisms. The current work approaches different by investigating how systems can be designed a priori to avoid or better escape the trap. We modeled a sustainability improvement program that successfully avoided capture and identified escape scenarios. The simulation model analysis identified high leverage improvement design features for trap avoidance and escape. Building efficiency features such as energy-saving effectiveness, decreasing life-cycle costs, increasing improvement lifespans, and conservation effectiveness influence performance. Improvement program design guidelines to escape or avoid the trap are proposed, and future research opportunities are discussed
