Photometric redshift estimation for Rubin observatory data preview 1 with redshift assessment infrastructure layers (RAIL)
We present the first systematic analysis of photometric redshifts (photo-z) estimated from the Rubin Observatory Data Preview 1 (DP1) data taken with the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) Commissioning Camera. Employing the Redshift Assessment Infrastructure Layers (RAIL) framework, we apply eight photo-z algorithms to the DP1 photometry, using deep ugrizy coverage in the Extended Chandra Deep Field South (ECDFS) field and griz data in the Rubin_SV_38_7 field. In the ECDFS field, we construct a reference catalog from spectroscopic redshift (spec-z), grism redshift (grism-z), and multiband photo-z for training and validating photo-z. Performance metrics of the photo-z are evaluated using spec-zs from ECDFS and Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument Data Release 1 samples. Across the algorithms, we achieve per-galaxy photo-z scatter of and outlier fractions around 10% in the 6-band data, with performance degrading at faint magnitudes and z>1.2. The overall bias and scatter of our machine-learning based photo-zs satisfy the LSST Y1 requirement. We also use our photo-z to infer the ensemble redshift distribution n(z). We study the photo-z improvement by including near-infrared photometry from the Euclid mission, and find that Euclid photometry improves photo-z at z>1.2. Our results validate the RAIL pipeline for Rubin photo-z production and demonstrate promising initial performance

Intraoral Factors Modulating Pain in Burning Mouth Syndrome
International audienceBackground Understanding intraoral factors that modulate pain in patients with burning mouth syndrome (BMS) could provide insight into its pathophysiological mechanisms, facilitating improved management strategies. Methods This retrospective study included 120 BMS patients who were asked, without predefined options, about factors that alleviated or exacerbated their pain. Data collected included pain characteristics (intensity, localisation, duration) and associated conditions such as salivary abnormalities and taste disturbances. Results A total of 89.2% of patients reported that intraoral factors influenced their pain, while 10.8% experienced no change with local stimulation. Pain relief was reported by 69.7% of patients, primarily attributed to eating, chewing or sucking (91.6%) and to a lesser extent, consuming cold foods or drinks (20.5%). Pain aggravation was noted in 50.4% of patients, with 91.5% citing intraoral triggers such as acidic, spicy or salty foods, while 11.9% reported worsened pain with hot foods or drinks. No associations were found between pain‐modulating factors and age, sex, disease duration, pain intensity or dysgeusia. However, pain relief was more frequent in patients without xerostomia, while those experiencing pain aggravation were more likely to have salivary abnormalities. Conclusion These findings indicate that intraoral factors can modulate pain intensity in the vast majority of BMS patients, supporting the role of the peripheral nervous system in BMS pathophysiology. Understanding these triggers may provide clinicians with valuable insights into the underlying mechanisms of pain, enabling more targeted and effective medical management
DISSeCT: An unsupervised framework for high-resolution mapping of rodent behavior using inertial sensors
International audienceDecomposing behavior into elementary components remains a central challenge in computational neuroethology. The current standard in laboratory animals involves multi-view video tracking, which, while providing unparalleled access to full-body kinematics, imposes environmental constraints, is data-intensive, and has limited scalability. We present an alternative approach using inertial sensors, which capture high-resolution, environment-independent, compact 3D kinematic data, and are commonly integrated into rodent neurophysiological devices. Our analysis pipeline leverages unsupervised, computationally efficient change-point detection to break down inertial time series into variable-length, statistically homogeneous segments. These segments are then grouped into candidate behavioral motifs through high-dimensional, model-based probabilistic clustering. We demonstrate that this approach achieves detailed rodent behavioral mapping using head inertial data. Identified motifs, corroborated by video recordings, include orienting movements, grooming components, locomotion, and olfactory exploration. Higher-order behavioral structures can be accessed by applying a categorical hidden Markov model to the motif sequence. Additionally, our pipeline detects both overt and subtle motor changes in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease and levodopa-induced dyskinesia, highlighting its utility for behavioral phenotyping. This methodology offers the possibility of conducting high-resolution, observer-unbiased behavioral analysis at minimal computational cost from easily scalable and environmentally unconstrained recordings

Distinct inflammatory profiles across migraine states: a systematic review and meta-analysis
International audienceAlthough several meta-analyses have emphasised the role of inflammation in migraine, none has accounted for the diversity of its clinical manifestations. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to provide a comprehensive and reliable assessment of cytokine levels in migraine
Possible Hyperworlds: representing Kripke models in RDF
Modal logic extends propositional logic by adding modal operators, and enables us to reason with conceptssuch as necessity, possibility, knowledge, belief, obligation, or consequences of actions. The most common way tointerpret modal logic formulas is to apply the possible worlds semantics and to formally represent it with a Kripkemodel. Kripke models consist of a set of possible worlds, accessibility relations between possible worlds, and avaluation function that assigns to propositional atoms a truth value relative to those worlds. Existing work exploredthe connection between modal logic and Description Logics, including Modal Description Logics, and consider theinclusion of a Kripke model in their semantics. We are interested in considering a novel perspective, where weaim to represent in RDF a Kripke model, formulas from a modal logic language, and in which possible worldssuch formulas are verified. Such a representation could have several applications: 1. contributing to a standardexchange format for modal logic applications, including reasoners; 2. facilitating the Open Science initiative inthe modal logic research community; 3. supporting the representation and management of uncertainty or othermodalities; and 4. facilitating interoperability between heterogeneous systems. As a starting point, our intuitionis that a set of triples could be translated to a formula, and one could explicit in what possible worlds a formulais verified using metadata about this set of triples. Following that intuition, the main contribution of this articleis to provide an RDF representation of normal Kripke models, applying the linked data principles and standards, focusing on identifying possible worlds and expressing the (N+1)-ary accessibility relations between them. We callpossible hyperworld the result of this hypermedia approach to representing possible worlds. We discuss the differentmodeling alternatives for linking sets of triples to possible worlds, and for representing accessibility relations. Wemotivate one modeling choice, and compile our design rationale in a formal vocabulary for describing Kripke models:the Possible Worlds and Kripke Structures Ontology (PWKSO). Adopting a simple and generic usage pattern, weillustrate PWKSO with examples from epistemic multi-modal logic, dyadic deontic logic, and the dynamic logicof mental attitudes and joint actions (DL-MA). Perspectives and future work include 1. defining a translation,in the context of an RDF dataset, of sets of triples to modal logic formulas; 2. querying, instantiating, reasoningwith possible hyperworlds; 3. nesting possible worlds or Kripke structures as a way to model Dynamic EpistemicLogics (DEL) or Propositional Dynamic Logics (PDL); 4. potential applications that leverage existing modal logicformalisms for example to merge knowledge graphs, represent the knowledge or beliefs of agents, represent theeffects of actions or norms, or develop model checking applications
International audienceIn the mid-19th century, Eugène Viollet-le-Duc restored The Madeleine church in Vézelay (Yonne), one of Burgundy’s most important Romanesque churches. He replaced original sculptures with copies in the Pentecost portal (1120-1130s). These include the conversion of the Armenians by Saint Bartholomew. While most of this sculpted group remains in situ, the last figure has been replaced by a copy. The original face, on the other hand, was found in the Creuse region, at Évaux-les-Bains. This sculpture of an Armenian is the basis for a comparison with the Vézelay caisson, as well as with medieval Armenian iconography and sources. This work allows us to consider the rrepresentation of Armenians in Romanesque art, as well as more general artistic and human transfers between the Western Europe and the Armenian world.C’est au milieu du XIXe siècle que la Madeleine de Vézelay (Yonne), unes des plus importantes églises romanes de Bourgogne, est restaurée par Eugène Viollet-le-Duc.
