Ecological Expenses Tracker – EcoExT
When talking about consuming and making purchases, it is always expected that there will also be a transaction in this act of trading and in this transaction a paper receipt is included, where the user gets a description of what they have spent and how much was spent.
The current dissertation demonstrates an application solution to reduce the cost of paper receipts that have been used in a daily basis stage and to track the value of expenses and incomes of a user who is consuming and spending their money when purchasing goods.
Additionally, we implement the Ecological Expense Tracker (EcoExT), using Raspberry Pi (RPi) educational computer in order to display the QR Codes that will be generated on the server and the application will be able to scan the code and gather the receipt.
Finally, the prototype created will show the results of the success work and future recommendations in order to improve the current version of the system

In the market, there are not many options or tools for people that once could speak. However, due to an accident or stroke, not only lost their voices and even some of their movements, but also sign language is not an option either. The issue is that whichever communication alternative that is available is either too expensive to use or too complicated for their actual situation such as google voice, notepads, general writing tools, etc. as each of them requires a little bit of work to manage.
Therefore we intended to ease speech-impaired people’s lives by designing and developing an application that speaks for them by only one touch. It is a user friendly application, with different interfaces divided according to its category such as Emergency, Fun, Greetings, Feelings and Daily Chat. Each interface displays its own set of buttons with different sentences, and each button plays out its corresponding sentence as soon as it is tapped. The sentences were recorded by us, applying different intonations so, it would give the application a better humanized form. We hope to make their lives easier, and give them back the possibility of expressing themselves in an easier way and keep up a steady conversation

Supervised Machine Learning Models for Fake News Detection
Fake news or the distribution of disinformation has become one of the most challenging issues in society. News and information are churned out across online websites and platforms in real-time, with little or no way for the viewing public to determine what is real or manufactured. But an awareness of what we are consuming online is becoming apparent and efforts are underway to explore how we separate fake content from genuine and truthful information.
The most challenging part of fake news is determining how to spot it. In technology, there are ways to help us do this. Supervised machine learning helps us to identify in a labelled dataset if a piece of information is fake or not. However, machine learning can be a black-box tool - a device, system or object which can be viewed in terms of its inputs and outputs – that focuses on one aspect of the problem and in doing so, isn’t addressing the bigger picture. To solve this issue, it is very important to understand how it works. The process of data pre-processing and the dataset labelling is part of this understanding. It is also worth knowing the algorithms mechanisms in order to choose the best one for the proposed project.
Evaluating machine learning algorithms model is one way to get better results. Changing paths within algorithms is not a bad thing if it is addressing the limitations within. With this project, we have done just this, changing from Sports news detection using Twitter API to labelled datasets and as a result we have an original Gofaas dataset, Gofaas library R package and Gofaas WebApp. Machine Learning is a demanding subject but fascinating at the same time. We hope this modest project helps people to face these challenges and learn from our findings accordingly

Cultivating Academic Self-Efficacy Through Supportive Social And Self Regulated Learning Strategies for Students in Higher Education
This research set out to enhance engagement in computer programming, a known difficult subject area for 1st year BSc in IT students. Programming lecturing staff had strong reservations about introducing group work in their classes, claiming group work was a counter-productive learning approach. The study was framed on a mixed methods action research approach, and a number of interventions, centred on reflective learning and social learning, were introduced. The findings indicated a strong preference by students to work in groups when tackling computer programming problems, but no strong evidence was found that reflective or social learning activities enhance programming skill level. A key contribution to practice was the introduction of a student mentoring academy within the institution, with programming as a central theme.https://arc.cct.ie/fac_presentations/1003/thumbnail.jp
