Get PDFColorectal Cancer (CRC) is a globally prevalent and deadly carcinoma, necessitating advanced treatment approaches. Despite ongoing advancements, the mortality rate remains high. Various biological models, including animal studies, cell lines, and the emerging organoid model, contribute to understanding molecular mechanisms. Organoids, 3D cultures derived from tumor epithelial cells, offer advantages such as enhanced diversity, genetic modification, and extended culture capabilities. Recent applications of machine learning (ML) in predicting CRC treatment responses using organoids and tissue data indicate a promising avenue for advancing personalized therapies
Offering Online Peer Support to Students: The Case of the CCT Student Mentoring Academy
Get PDFThe CCT Student Mentoring Academy is a key institutional student success and student partnership initiative. In the Academy, students work in partnership with faculty to provide peer support opportunities across the college as well as structured support and guidance for peer mentors. The College’s Student Success Strategy 2021-23 states: “CCT will continue to grow and expand its CCT Student Mentoring Academy through faculty supervised peer support. Programmes such as these will continue to prioritize working in partnership with students to optimise the learning environment.” (2021, p.8) During the academic year 2020/21, the Student Mentoring Academy successfully migrated its activities from face-to face to an exclusively online format as remote teaching and learning continued due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. With the resumption of face-to-face teaching and learning in 2022, student mentoring activities will continue to avail of the virtual classroom and other technologies to augment its face-to face activities for enhanced inclusion and impact. Student mentoring activities traditionally focus on first year transitions, student acculturation and creating a sense of belonging. Whilst CCT Student Mentors contribute to these activities, the predominant focus of the Academy is to provide peer support to students in the teaching and learning context
How to Improve Employee Efficiency Practices for Small Family Businesses
Get PDFThe aim of this research project is to examine the efficiency of employees from the perspective of small family businesses and the workable solutions to improve low efficiency. The sampling method chosen to conduct this research was non-probabilistic and the type of sampling used was expert sampling. The non-probability sampling investigation was conducted using the qualitative research method, which this research project pursued.
An interview was undertaken with an expert in the field of business development and productive development issues who is an ILO Specialist for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The results of the research showed that trust between managers and their employees is crucial where mangers should not be afraid in letting their employees solve problems on their own and to delegate important tasks without the fear of relinquishing important knowledge. Employee working conditions, employee and managers use of time was emphasized and where appropriate training was available it should be availed of by the employees, implementation and change management were essential where employers must pursue improvements and training for their employees and this pursuit of talent is essential to increase employee efficiency. Entrepreneurs must recognise the gains that can be pursued through internal improvements and finally by building stakeholder relationships and work were all drivers for increasing low efficiency in small family businesses. One of the main conclusions from this research is the pursuit of growth and ongoing training on the part of managers for their employees. And managers should not be afraid to embrace change or else they will have a stagnant working environment where employees are disinterested and will pursue opportunities elsewhere
