Diseminasi Moderasi Beragama Melalui Peran Strategis Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama (FKUB)
Abstrak
Menguatnya sikap intoleransi, ekstrimisme, dan radikalisme perlu mendapat respon yang komprehensif. Beberapa penelitian menunjukkan bahwa motif aksi kekerasan dan intoleransi dapat dilatarbelakangi oleh faktor ekonomi, sosial, politik maupun motif ideologi. Ketika hal tersebut dibarengi oleh sikap keberagamaan yang ekstrim maka seseorang mudah terpengaruh terhadap pemahaman keberagamaan ekstremistik-fundamentalistik. Maka untuk merespon fenomena tersebut perlu melakukan penguatan moderasi beragama kepada masyarakat. Dalam konteks Banyumas, salah satu elemen yang strategis dalam melakukan diseminasi moderasi beragama adalah Forum Kerukunan Umat Beragama (FKUB) Banyumas. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian lapangan (field research) dengan metode kualitatif-deskriptif. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui wawancara, observasi, Forum Group Discussion, dan kajian pustaka. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan sosiologis dimana konsep moderasi beragama tidak sebatas pada wacana melainkan dalam ranah praktis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memetakan peran strategis FKUB dalam mendiseminasikan moderasi beragama di Banyumas. Hasil penelitian menujukkan bahwa peran strategis FKUB Banyumas dalam mendiseminasikan moderasi beragama di Banyumas yaitu: 1) diseminasi melalui interfaith dialog; 2) diseminasi pada pelajar melalui program FKUB goes to school; 3) diseminasi moderasi beragama berbasis local wisdom; dan 4) diseminasi melalui pendekatan literasi dan media sosial.
Abstract
The strengthening of intolerance, extremism and radicalism requires a comprehensive response. Several studies have shown that motives for acts of violence and intolerance can be motivated by economic, social, political and ideological motives. When this is accompanied by extreme religious attitudes, one is easily influenced by extremist-fundamentalist religious understandings. So to respond to this phenomenon it is necessary to strengthen religious moderation in society. In the context of Banyumas, one of the strategic elements in disseminating religious moderation is the Banyumas Religious Harmony Forum (FKUB). This research is a field research (field research) with a qualitative-descriptive method. Research data were obtained through interviews, observations, Forums Group Discussion, and literature review. This study uses a sociological approach where the concept of religious moderation is not limited to discourse but in the practical realm. The purpose of this research is to map the strategic role of FKUB in disseminating religious moderation in Banyumas. The results of the study show that the strategic roles of FKUB Banyumas in disseminating religious moderation in Banyumas are: 1) dissemination through interfaith dialogue; 2) dissemination to students through the FKUB goes to school program; 3) dissemination of religious moderation based on local wisdom; and 4) dissemination through literacy approaches and social media
Religion and Education: A Comparative Analysis of Indonesian and Tunisian Religious Moderation Policies
Indonesia and Tunisia offer distinct cultural, political, and educational environments related to religious moderation, despite having predominantly Muslim populations. The two nations\u27 divergent approaches to religion show their attempts to take a moderate stance. Focusing on the dynamics of modern educational standards, the paper examines the nuanced policies employed by the two nations to encourage religious moderation in their educational systems. This study utilized a qualitative method by conducting interviews, literature analysis, and taking a few key points from formal events pertaining to this subject. By contrasting the experiences of Tunisia and Indonesia, this study seeks to clarify the different strategies for promoting religious moderation and fostering a friendly, inclusive learning environment. The main result of this research is that Indonesia inserted religious moderation into its\u27 educational curriculum. Unlike the state policies in Tunisia, which don\u27t make a specific curriculum about religious moderation in the educational aspect but make some conferences and forums related to this issue. The research findings contribute to the global conversation on harmonizing religion and education
Local Wisdom of Sasak Aristocrat and Moral Education: A Case Study from Lombok Island
This current study examines how the local wisdom of Sasak aristocrats can enhance moral education in pesantren. This study focuses on utilising indigenous wisdom by the Sasak aristocrats to enhance moral education in pesantren. This study employs a qualitative approach with a research design centred on the case study. The study was conducted at Pondok Pesantren Selaparang in Kediri, West Lombok, and was chosen for its unique expertise in utilising advanced Sasak language and cultures. Data collection is carried out through interviews, observations, and documentation. This study employed the interactive analysis technique proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which includes data collection, condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing. This current study demonstrates that moral education is strengthened through the noble Sasak local knowledge at Pondok Pesantren Selaparang in Kediri, West Lombok using several approaches: 1) Implementing Sasak Alus language in Islamic lectures at pesantren; 2) Providing role models; 3) Establishing habits through daily routines; 4) Conducting speech training (muḥāḍarah); 5) Organising speech competitions; 6) Engaging students in social, cultural, and religious events. This current study contributes to enhancing moral teaching in pesantren by theoretically and practically incorporating local wisdom
Islamic Guidelines for Promoting Religious Tolerance and Countering Intolerance
Abstract
This article focuses on two issues. The first issue is the stagnation of the national tolerance score, indicating that intolerant activities continue to affect the nation. Second, the concept of tolerance is ambiguous, making it difficult to implement religious moderation. The discordance of tolerance between theory and practice is shown by these two issues. The research method in this paper utilizes a literature-based study with a conceptual approach and descriptive analysis. The conceptual approach involves examining and defining key ideas and theoretical frameworks relevant to tolerance and religious moderation, clarifying abstract concepts and underlying principles. Descriptive analysis systematically describes and interprets existing data from previous studies and literature on the topic. This research provides a framework for fostering religious tolerance based on Islamic principles, offering practical solutions to address intolerance. The framework emphasizes replacing verbal and physical harassment with supportive and cooperative actions. It also outlines strategies for turning destructive behaviors, such as the demolition of places of worship, into constructive efforts like aiding in their restoration and rebuilding. This framework aims to foster religious moderation and harmony through actionable, normative measures
Pengukuran Sikap dan Pemahaman Moderasi Beragama Penyuluh dan Guru
Abstrak
Semua agama memiliki prinsip toleransi yang berlaku, baik untuk umat seagama maupun penganut agama lain. Kementerian Agama menetapkan tahun 2022 sebagai tahun toleransi dengan moderasi beragama sebagai indikatornya. Namun, sikap dan pemahaman moderasi beragama di kalangan penyuluh agama, guru agama, dan guru madrasah belum pernah dinilai secara sistematis. Artikel ini menggunakan metode survei untuk mengevaluasi sikap dan pemahaman moderasi beragama di kalangan penyuluh agama dan guru. Sebanyak 324 penyuluh agama dan 445 guru agama dan madrasah dipilih sebagai sampel melalui metode proporsional random sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sikap moderasi beragama penyuluh agama dan guru berada pada kategori tinggi, dengan skor rata-rata 3,62 dan 3,52 (skala 4) masing-masing, sementara pemahaman mereka memiliki skor rata-rata 0,67 dan 0,65 (skala 0-1), yang juga tergolong tinggi dan sedang. Namun, aspek toleransi memperoleh skor terendah, baik pada sikap maupun pemahaman. Toleransi beragama, terutama dalam perspektif antaragama, masih kurang dipahami oleh sebagian besar responden, dengan hanya sedikit yang memahami konsep toleransi beragama secara menyeluruh. Perbandingan antara alumni dan nonalumni pelatihan menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan moderasi beragama belum efektif. Oleh karena itu, perlu dilakukan evaluasi terhadap sistem pelatihan PPMB, termasuk kurikulum, metode, dan implementasinya, belum optimal dalam meningkatkan kualitas penyuluh.
Abstract
All religions have a concept of tolerance that applies to both fellow religions and different religions. The Ministry of Religious Affairs proclaimed 2022 as the year of tolerance, which its indicator is religious moderation. The attitude and understanding of religious moderation of religious counselors, religious teachers, and madrasa teachers have not been measured systematically before. This article uses a survey method to measure attitudes and understanding of religious moderation among religious counselors and teachers. About 324 religious counselors and 445 religious studies and madrasa teachers were chosen as the sample using proportional random sampling. The findings show that religious moderation attitude of religious counselors and teachers are in the high category, with an average score of 3.62 and 3.52 (scale 4) respectively. Their understanding of religious moderation has an average score of 0.67 and 0.65 (scale 0-1), which are also classified in high and moderate level. However, the tolerance aspect scored the lowest on both attitude and understanding. Religious tolerance, especially in an interfaith perspective, is still not sufficiently understood by most respondents. Only a few of respondents understand the concept of religious tolerance thoroughly. By comparing the attitudes and understanding of training alumni and nonalumni, implementing religious moderation training has not provided effective results. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the PPMB training system, including its curriculum, method, and implementation because it hasn’t been improving the religious counselors quality optimally.
Anak Muda dan Media: Dakwah Sheikh Assim di Media Sosial Sebagai Basis Transmisi Salafisme di Indonesia
Abstrak
Kelompok Salafi walau dikenal beraliran tradisional-konservatif dengan jargonya kembali pada Qur’an dan Sunnah, namun pada kenyataanya mereka dapat memanfaatkan teknologi informasi dengan maksimal untuk berdakwah. Tulisan ini membahas mengenai adanya gaya baru dakwah Salafi yang dilakukan oleh Sheikh Assim al-Hakeem. Ia merupakan seorang da\u27i asal Saudi yang dengan cepat mendapatkan popularitas di kalangan anak muda Indonesia melalui media sosial. Tulisan ini menganalisis cara dakwah yang disampaikan oleh Sheikh Assim yang banyak menarik simpati anak muda. Dengan menggunakan metode netnografi yang dicetuskan oleh Kozinets dengan 12 tahapan metodologis, penulis mengelaborasi dan menganalisis data secara virtual. Selain itu untuk mendapatkan data yang lebih komperhensif penulis juga melakukan wawancara lapangan kepada peserta kajian Sheikh Assim ketika berdakwah di Indonesia. Penelitian ini menyuguhkan pertanyaaan apa motivasi anak muda tertarik dengan kajian Salafi Sheikh Assim dan mengapa banyak diminati. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan dakwah yang menggabungkan doktrin Salafi dengan gaya komunikasi jenaka dapat menarik minat anak muda Indonesia, terutama mereka yang kurang memiliki pemahaman matang tentang agama. Popularitas Sheikh Assim sebagai da\u27i viral di media sosial dengan gaya komunikasi santai menjadi faktor utama yang mendorong ia banyak disukai anak muda baik di media sosial maupun di kajian dakwahnya secara langsung.
Abstract
Although Salafi are known to be traditional-conservative with their motto of returning to the Qur\u27an and Sunnah, they can make the most of information technology to preach. This paper discusses the new style of Salafi da\u27wah conducted by Sheikh Assim al-Hakeem. He is a Saudi da\u27i who quickly gained popularity among Indonesian youth through social media. This paper analyses the way of da\u27wah delivered by Sheikh Assim that attracts many young people. Using the netnography method coined by Kozinets with 12 methodological stages, the author elaborates and analyses the data virtually. In addition, to obtain more comprehensive data, the author conducted field interviews with Sheikh Assim\u27s followers when preaching in Indonesia. This research presents the question of what motivates youth to be interested in Sheikh Assim\u27s preaching and why they are in great demand. The results show that a da\u27wah approach that combines Salafi doctrine with a humorous communication style can attract Indonesian youth, especially those who lack a mature understanding of religion. Sheikh Assim\u27s popularity as a viral da\u27i on social media with a relaxed communication style is the main factor that drives him to be liked by many youths both on social media and in his preaching
Between Conflict and Kinship: Understanding the Social Identity of Bangsamoro Orphans in Maguindanao and North Cotabato Province
Abstract
The persistent conflict in the Bangsamoro area, located in the southern Philippines, has markedly affected numerous individuals, particularly the offspring of deceased mujahideen fighters. This study delves into the configuration of social identity among orphans of Bangsamoro mujahideen, exploring their navigation of belonging within a community characterized by enduring conflict and radicalization. Rooted in historical grievances, socio-political marginalization, and the pursuit of self-determination, the Bangsamoro conflict has spawned radical groups that further complicate the societal dynamics within the region. Employing a qualitative methodology, this research integrates in-depth interviews, participant observations, and analysis of local narratives to comprehend the construction of social identities among these orphans. The study investigates the impacts of family, community, and radical ideologies on their identity formation and how they reconcile their orphanhood with the necessity for belonging in a fractured society. The findings expose the identity struggles faced by orphans of Bangsamoro mujahideen, as they navigate between victimhood and the glorification of their parents\u27 legacies. Radicalization and the pervasive conflict environment significantly influence their perceptions of self and others, often leading to the embracement of ideologies that resonate with their experiences of loss and marginalization. The study concludes that the social identity of these orphans is a multifaceted interplay of personal experiences, community influences, and broader socio-political contexts. It underscores the critical need for targeted interventions to address the psychological and social needs of these children, thereby averting further radicalization and fostering a more inclusive sense of belonging in the Bangsamoro region.
Local Wisdom Values and Religious Moderation in Islamic Boarding Schools
Building religious moderation can be done in various ways, one of which is using local wisdom values. Local wisdom values can be implemented in learning in madrasas. This research was conducted at MTs Mambaul Ulum Bata-bata 1 to analyze local wisdom values used in building religious moderation, and efforts to build religious moderation using Madurese local wisdom values. A qualitative method with an exploratory descriptive design was used in this study. The informants of this research were teachers and students of MTs Mambaul Ulum Bata-bata 1 who were selected purposively. Data was collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Source and time triangulation is used to see the validity of the data. The results of the study show that (1) the local wisdom values used to build religious moderation are the Pesantren tradition and the Toron tradition. (2) Efforts to build religious moderation are carried out by using the local wisdom of the pesantren, the culture of the madrasah, the exemplary clerics and teachers, compiling learning tools, and incorporating local wisdom values as PPKn subject matter. This research implies that religious moderation can be built with local wisdom values. This entire article can be used as a reference for further research by identifying exemplary forms and the application of religious moderation values by students in the community
Tradisi Cium Hidung: Sarana Moderasi Beragama Berbasis Kearifan Lokal di Nusa Tenggara Timur
Abstrak
Fundamentalisme, radikalisme, ekstremisme, dan fanatisme berlebihan dari agama mana pun yang mengakibatkan kekerasan, intoleransi, dan skeptisisme terhadap perbedaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi salah satu model penguatan moderasi beragama berdasarkan kearifan lokal, seperti tradisi mencium hidung di Kota Kupang, Nusa Tenggara Timur. Penelitian ini ditulis menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dan pendekatan etnografi, serta mekanisme pengumpulan data menggunakan studi literatur, observasi, dan wawancara dengan masing-masing sumber untuk memperkuat analisis dalam tulisan ini. Hasil penelitian ini memberikan pemahaman tentang elemen-elemen toleransi yang terkandung dalam tradisi mencium hidung, termasuk sebagai ikatan hubungan, simbol penyelesaian masalah, introspeksi diri, dan kontrol sosial masyarakat. Sikap tersebut adalah keramahtamahan yang menghilangkan batasan sosial, seperti perbedaan agama, etnis, budaya, dan bahasa. Tradisi mencium hidung dipahami sebagai sarana untuk menciptakan keramahan dan sebagai bentuk realisasi nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam narasi moderasi beragama. Mencium hidung juga menghadirkan simbol kekerabatan yang lengket, simbol penyelesaian masalah, simbol toleransi, dan fungsi kontrol sosial dalam masyarakat untuk menciptakan hubungan harmonis antara satu pihak dengan pihak lainnya. Akhirnya, eksplorasi narasi moderasi beragama berdasarkan tradisi mencium hidung membawa kita pada kesimpulan bahwa ada beberapa elemen komitmen nasional, anti-kekerasan, toleransi, dan sikap akomodatif terhadap budaya lokal yang tergambar dalam tradisi mencium hidung.
Abstract:
Fundamentalism, radicalism, extremism, and excessive fanaticism from any religion that results in violence, intolerance, and skepticism towards differences. This research aims to explore one model of strengthening religious moderation based on local wisdom, such as the tradition of nose kissing in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara. This research is written using a descriptive qualitative method and an ethnographic approach, as well as data collection mechanisms using literature study, observation, and interviews with each source to strengthen the analysis in this paper. The results of this research provide an understanding of the elements of tolerance contained in the tradition of nose kissing, including: as a bond of relationships, a symbol of problem-solving, self-introspection, and social control of the community. That attitude is hospitality that eliminates social boundaries, such as differences in religion, ethnicity, culture, and language. The tradition of nose kissing is understood as a means to create hospitality and a form of realization of the values contained in the narrative of religious moderation. Kissing the nose also presents a sticky symbol of relationships, a symbol of problem-solving, a symbol of tolerance, and a function of social control within the community to create harmonious relationships between one party and another. Finally, the exploration of the narrative of religious moderation based on the tradition of nose kissing leads us to a conclusion that there are several elements of national commitment, anti-violence, tolerance, and an accommodating attitude towards local culture depicted in the tradition of nose kissing
Nilai-Nilai Pendidikan Toleransi Dalam Tradisi Kirab Budaya Masyarakat Tlogo Wiro Bansari Temanggung
Abstrak
Penelitian ini membahas bagaimana tradisi kirab budaya dalam mencerminkan nilai-nilai pendidikan toleransi yang diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari masyarakat tlogo wiro dan bagaimana tradisi kirab budaya dapat berfungsi sebagai alat dalam membangun toleransi dan kerukunan antarumat beragama. Kemudian penerapan tradisi kirab budaya mempengaruhi kehidupan sosial, budaya, dan agama masyarakat tlogo wiro. Analisis mengunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi, penelitian ini dilakukan untuk menggali nilai-nilai pendidikan toleransi yang terdapat dalam tradisi kirab budaya dan dampaknya terhadap dinamika sosial masyarakat melalui observasi partisipatif dan wawancara mendalam yang dilakukan pada bulan Maret-Juni 2023 dengan lima narasumber yang memiliki latar belakang sosial dan profesi yang beragam di tlogo wiro. Hasil analisis menunjukkan tradisi kirab budaya bertujuan sebagai sarana pendidikan untuk mengenalkan budaya lokal dan mempromosikan toleransi masyarakat Tlogo Wiro. Tradisi ini berperan penting dalam membangun integrasi sosial, menyatukan elemen masyarakat, dan memperkuat solidaritas sosial, khususnya dalam mengedukasi toleransi dalam interaksi sosial. Nilai-nilai yang ditanamkan melalui pendidikan ini meliputi sikap saling menghargai, menghormati, dan memahami perbedaan individu. Kirab Budaya berfungsi sebagai wadah penyatuan berbagai aspek kehidupan masyarakat, meliputi tradisi, keyakinan agama, serta seni dan budaya lokal. Selain itu, kirab ini juga mengajarkan kebanggaan terhadap warisan budaya dan mendorong rasa hormat serta pemahaman terhadap keragaman di masyarakat.
Abstract
This study discusses how the tradition of Kirab Budaya reflects the values of tolerance education applied in the daily life of the Tlogo Wiro community and how this tradition functions as a tool in building tolerance and harmony among religious groups. The implementation of the Kirab Budaya tradition also affects the social, cultural, and religious life of the Tlogo Wiro community. The analysis uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach. This research was conducted to explore the values of tolerance education found in the Kirab Budaya tradition and its impact on the social dynamics of the community through participatory observation and in-depth interviews conducted from March to June 2023 with five informants from diverse social and professional backgrounds in Tlogo Wiro. The analysis results show that the Kirab Budaya tradition aims to serve as an educational tool to introduce local culture and promote tolerance within the Tlogo Wiro community. This tradition plays an important role in building social integration, uniting community elements, and strengthening social solidarity, particularly in educating tolerance in social interactions. The values instilled through this education include mutual respect, honoring, and understanding individual differences. Kirab Budaya functions as a platform that unites various aspects of community life, including tradition, religious beliefs, and local arts and culture. Additionally, this tradition also fosters pride in cultural heritage and encourages respect and understanding of diversity in the community.
