    Unlocking the Potential: The Role of Game Elements on Player Motivation and Intention of Long-Term Use in Virtual Reality Exergames

    Virtual reality (VR) exergames provide enjoyable, immersive workouts, yet there is still a lack of knowledge about how to design these games effectively to unlock their potential. This paper investigates (i) which game elements (basic mechanics of games) contribute to player inspiration (a state-related form of motivation) and (ii) how inspiration influences players' long-term use. To answer these questions, we followed a mixed-methods design. In Study 1, we used an iterative approach to identify the most important VR exergames and their relevant game elements. Based on these findings, in Study 2, we created a survey that we sent to Beat Saber players (N=256). The results showed that nine game elements influence inspired by playing Beat Saber, and inspired to do physical exercise partially mediates the relationship between inspired by playing Beat Saber and long-term use. We conclude with implications that can inform future development in this field

    Towards Variational Quantum Algorithms for generalized linear and nonlinear transport phenomena

    The data refers to a variational quantum algorithm experiments solving linear and nonlinear thermofluid dynamic transport equations. The approach uses hybrid classical/quantum hardware that is well suited for quantum computers of the current noisy intermediate-scale quantum era. The partial differential equation is initially translated into an optimal control problem with a modular control-to-state operator (ansatz). The examples include the Heat, Wave, and Burgers' equation in combination with different engineering boundary conditions. The results are complemented by classical finite difference results, which have been taken for comparison in the underlying document (arXiv.2411.14931)

    TAMAR steht für Transcription and Annotation for MAnuscript Research. TAMAR ermöglicht es, Handschriftendigitalisate mit Transkriptionen von Textelementen oder weiteren Informationen darzustellen. Arbeitstranskriptionen zu ausgewählten Passagen von Biblia-pauperum-Handschriften bilden das Datenkorpus bei der Veröffentlichung im Jahr 2025. TAMAR ist ein Kooperationsprojekt des Projekts FNT08, Reframing Old Contents for New Readers in Late-Medieval German OneVolume Libraries (Wimmer/Ratzke 2023) und dem Research Field F, Data Linking im Exzellenzcluster Understanding Written Artefacts am Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures Hamburg (CSMC).     Am 1. April 2024 ist das Konsumcannabisgesetz in Kraft getreten, wodurch der Besitz und Anbau von Cannabis in bestimmten Grenzen legalisiert wurden. Das Forschungsprojekt „Evaluation des Konsumcannabisgesetzes“ (EKOCAN) untersucht die Auswirkungen dieser Teillegalisierung auf den Kinder- und Jugendschutz, den Gesundheitsschutz sowie die cannabisbezogene Kriminalität. Der erste Zwischenbericht fasst die Forschungsergebnisse auf Basis der bis August 2025 verfügbaren Informationen zusammen. On 1 April 2024, the Act on the Handling of Cannabis for Non-Medical Use (Konsumcannabisgesetz) came into force, legalising the possession and cultivation of cannabis within certain limits. The research project ‘Evaluation des Konsumcannabisgesetzes’ (EKOCAN) is investigating the effects of this partial legalisation on the protection of children and young people, health protection and cannabis-related crime. The first interim report summarises the research findings based on the information available up to August 2025

    Prediction error-related memory enhancement depends on the neural state surrounding the prediction error event

    Prediction errors (PEs) can enhance memory for preceding events. While such PE-related memory enhancements are critical for understanding adaptive memory, their underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. Using electroencephalography (EEG) and neuro-navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in combination with multivariate pattern analysis, this pre-registered study aimed to elucidate the brain mechanisms underlying PE effects on memory. Specifically, we tested whether PEs trigger a neural reactivation of the preceding stimulus and whether the PE-induced effects on memory depend on a specific neural state before the PE. We also examined whether inhibitory TMS over the superior parietal cortex (SPC) reduces PE effects on memory. A total of 118 participants (male and female) received sham or inhibitory theta-burst stimulation over the SPC before completing an incidental encoding-fear learning task. In this task, participants learned trial-unique stimuli and predicted whether these would be followed by an electric shock, while EEG was recorded. Recognition memory was tested 24 hours later. Our findings show that signed PEs enhance subsequent memory, depending on theta and alpha oscillations as well as neural stimulus (category) reactivation shortly before the PE. Moreover, this memory enhancement was associated with post-PE theta but not with PE-driven stimulus (category) reinstatement. Theta-burst stimulation over the SPC led to a more conservative mnemonic response bias but left the PE effect on memory unaffected. Together, our findings reveal that PE effects on memory formation are influenced by neural states and representations surrounding the PE, providing new insights into the neural mechanisms of adaptive memory formation
