Non-dyadic human–robot interactions and online brand communities

    No full text
International audienceThis research investigates and conceptualizes non-dyadic human-robot interactions (HRI). Design/methodology/approach: We conducted a netnographic study of the Facebook group called "iRobot-Roomba," an online brand community dedicated to Roomba vacuums. Our data analysis employed an abductive approach, which extended the grounded theory method. Findings: Dyadic portrayals of human-robot interactions can be expanded to consider other actants that are relevant to the consumption experiences of consumer robots. Not only humans but also nonhumans, such as an online brand community, have a meaningful role to play in shaping interactions between humans and robots. Originality: Unlike most previous marketing and consumer research on human-robot interactions, we show that different actants exert agency in different ways, at different times, and with different socio-technical arrangements. Research implications: The present study moves theoretical discussions on HRI from the individual level grounded in a purely psychological approach to a more collective and sociocultural approach. Practical implications: If managers do not have a proper assessment of human-robot interactions that considers different actants and their role in the socio-technical arrangement, they will find it more challenging to design and suggest new consumption experiences

Real-life Investors' Memory Recall Bias: A Lab-in-the-Field Experiment

    No full text
International audienceWe conduct a lab-in-the eld experiment to investigate the memory recall bias of real-life investors who are asked to recall their best performing stock (BPS) and worst performing stock (WPS). We have four main ndings. First, investors are more likely to forget WPS than BPS. The proportion of investors who forget WPS and remember BPS is higher than that of those who forget BPS and remember WPS. Second, less experienced investors are more likely to forget WPS than more experienced investors. Third, present biased investors are more likely to forget WPS. Four, investors who pay more attention to stock prices are more likely to forget WPS. Overall, our ndings suggest that investors exhibit motivated memory recall bias

SPAC CEOs and Capital Raising Outcomes

    No full text
International audienceWe study the CEOs' role in the SPAC capital raising process, using a hand-collected sample of 298 U.S. SPACs. We find that experience gained through managing public companies is linked to 11% larger SPACs. As the IPO process continues, the CEO’s financial expertise becomes important in raising external capital, resulting in a 13% increase of exercised overallotment options

Greening the Financial Sector: Evidence from Bank Green Bonds

    No full text
International audienceBanks are expected to play a key role in assisting the real economy with the green transition process. One of the tools used for this purpose is the issuance of green bonds. We analyze the characteristics of banks that issue green bonds to understand: (i) which banks are more likely to resort to these funding instruments, and (ii) if the issuance of green bonds leads to an improvement in a bank’s environmental footprint. We find that large banks and banks that had already publicly expressed their support for a green transition are more likely to issue green bonds. Conditional on being a green bond issuer, smaller banks tend to resort to green bonds in a more persistent manner and for relatively larger amounts, while larger banks issue green bonds on a more occasional basis and for smaller amounts. This heterogeneity is also reflected in our findings that only banks that issue green bonds more intensively improve their emissions and reduce lending to polluting sectors, thus contributing to the decarbonization of the financial sector

Impact of CSR communication on brand business and social values

    No full text
International audienceResearch on CSR has largely focused on the effects of companies' CSR actions on their performance or business value creation, but obtains contrasting results due to understudied mediating effects, i.e. indirect relationships between CSR and company performance. Consequently, the present study examines the direct, but also indirect, links between a company's perceived CSR, following a CSR communication, by introducing variables more specifically related to the social value the firm can deliver, upstream of its business value. Using a sample of 414 consumers, results of structural equation modeling show the direct and indirect ways in which a brand's perceived CSR, following exposure to a CSR communication, can improve its market value in terms of behavioral intentions. It also underscores that the perceived CSR of a brand increases the social value of this brand by encouraging consumers to adopt sustainable behaviors in order to increase their well-being
