Measuring Network-Driven Citations: An Adjusted Citation Count Metric
Citation count is extensively used within research systems to measure research performance and relevance. However, high numbers of citations could result from many different factors. This paper proposes an adjusted citation count metric that could help identify citations coming from researchers' networks. Using data from the Web of Science core collection, this research suggests and illustrates an approach to compute the proportion of citation counts from within and out of author networks, defined as the set of their co-authors. The results reveal the trends and effects of author networks on citation counts. The paper explains how these findings could be used to assess research performance. Its utilisation will depend mainly on the objectives of the assessor and the stage of the researcher's career. An algorithm is also proposed that could be used to automate the computation of the proposed metric. It could serve as a step towards refining and integrating this metric into existing bibliometric analysis packages built on the R software platform
Equity Crowdfunding: The Influence of Perceived Innovativeness on Campaign Success *
International audienceThis article examines the impact of perceived innovativeness on the success of equity crowdfunding campaigns. Building on the investor perspective, we hypothesize a positive impact of perceived innovativeness on the campaign outcome. Our database covers 191 campaigns launched in France on different platforms, drawing on over 2,000 individual assessments of the perceived innovativeness of the start-ups involved, carried out by 176 participants with diverse backgrounds. We find support for our hypothesis from the investor perspective in that highly innovative projects attract more crowd investors and, in turn, raise more capital. We contribute to the understanding of how the crowd makes investment choices
Metaverse Marketing: How the Metaverse Will Shape the Future of Consumer Research and Practice
International audienceThe initial hype and fanfare from the Meta Platforms view of how the metaverse could be brought to life has evolved into an ongoing discussion of not only the metaverse's impact on users and organizations but also the societal and cultural implications of widespread usage. The potential of consumer interaction with brands within the metaverse has engendered significant debate within the marketing-focused discourse on the key challenges and transformative opportunities for marketers. Drawing on insights from expert contributors, this study examines the marketing implications of the hypothetical widespread adoption of the metaverse. We identify new research directions and propose a new framework offering valuable contributions for academia, practice, and policy makers. Our future research agenda culminates in a checklist for researchers which clarifies how the metaverse can be beneficial to digital marketing and advertising, branding, services, value creation, and consumer wellbeing. \textcopyright 2022 The Authors. Electronic word-of-mouth from video bloggers: The role of content quality and source homophily across hedonic and utilitarian products
International audienceConsumers increasingly post videos in which they review products and experiences, spreading electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM). Despite the relevance of consumer-generated audio-visual eWOM, there is limited research on this topic. Integrating Source Credibility Theory and the Information Adoption Model, this study investigates the effect of source expertise, trustworthiness, homophily, and popularity on perceived content quality and purchase intention. We ran two studies and gathered responses from 498 and 230 viewers of online videos of hedonic experiences (travel) and utilitarian products (personal technology), respectively. Findings indicate that source trustworthiness and expertise predict content quality across product types, while source homophily predicts content quality for hedonic experiences and source popularity for utilitarian products. Source homophily and content quality directly affect behavioral intention across product types, while source expertise influences consumers’ purchase intention of utilitarian products. Content quality mediates the influence of these source characteristics on behavioral intention

SME upgrading in emerging market clusters: The case of Taiwan’s bicycle industry
International audienceExisting arguments on the economic upgrading of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in emerging markets emphasise the role of multinational enterprises (MNEs) from developed markets in providing the necessary new knowledge based on a top-down logic. Adopting the Taiwanese bicycle industry cluster as a case study, we investigate alternative factors influencing the upgrading of SMEs in emerging markets through vertical and horizontal relationships within global value chains and clusters. The findings show that knowledge exchange and collaboration via horizontal, trustbased linkages between SMEs within a cluster and the development of formal and informal institutions by leading local MNEs are crucial for the upgrading of locally clustered SMEs. We provide typologies for vertical and horizontal interfirm linkages and show how the combination of linkages affects the upgrading of these emerging market SMEs. Our typologies can assist practitioners with identifying options for successful upgrading through strategic engagement and development in interfirm relationships
Deliberative boundary work for sustainable finance: Insights from a European Commission expert group
International audienceTo explain how multistakeholder groups organize democratic deliberations about complex sustainability issues, organizational scholars have focused on the key role of deliberative capacity, which encompasses the dimensions of inclusiveness, authenticity, and consequentiality. However, the tensions inherent to the search of these three dimensions have been overlooked. In this paper, we argue that focusing on how spaces for deliberation are designed can help one understand how to manage such tensions. We identified the boundary work practices that shape the design of deliberative spaces and generate deliberative capacity properties in a high-level expert group (HLEG) launched by the European Commission about sustainable finance regulation. Our results show how these boundary work practices help balance deliberative tensions. We advance deliberation studies by conceptualizing deliberative boundary work, explaining how deliberative capacity is spatially generated, and showing how deliberative tensions are balanced. We also contribute to boundary work theory by making explicit the deliberative nature of configuring boundary work and showing its relevancy to regulatory settings
